Born in Bolton Borough, Greater Manchester, England as Alexander Paul Weaver, he is an English actor, director, writer and producer - best known for his role as awkward Leonard Finch in the crime drama show Grantchester (2014). He studied acting at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama before making his theatre debut in a production of Hamlet, sharing the title role for three performances a week with Ben Whishaw. Weaver's first movie performance was a minor uncredited role in Color Me Kubrick (2005) in 2004, followed by an appearance in The Merchant of Venice (2004), where he appeared along Al Pacino. He divides his time between theatre, television, and movies, and continues to play his most popular role - Leonard Finch on Grantchester - since 2014.
