‘Mayor Of Mayhem’ Recap: What Happened To Rob Ford?
Image
The creators behind the Netflix documentary film series Trainwreck evidently have a keen interest in covering the most bizarre and unexpected mess-ups in the history of mankind, and this time their focus is on a political scandal of an unprecedented nature. A supposed nobody with zero chances of entering any serious government office, Rob Ford was elected as the mayor of Toronto in 2010, much to the delight and surprise of the citizens of Canada’s largest city by population. But what followed was simply shocking and shameful, as Rob Ford experienced a fall from grace like no other politician in recent history. While Mayor of Mayhem does a solid job of covering perhaps the most serious allegations against the mayor, its short duration of 49 minutes also means that a lot is left out and seemingly overlooked.

Who was Rob Ford?

Born in 1969, Rob Ford was the youngest son of Ontario-based businessman Douglas Bruce Ford,...

The Equalizer (2014) Movie Ending Explained: How does Robert Takes Down the Oligarch’s Mercenaries and Deliver Justice?
Antoine Fuqua at an event for Brooklyn's Finest (2009)
Antoine Fuqua’s action thriller “The Equalizer” (2014), starring Denzel Washington, is based on the TV series of the same name. Aired on CBS between 1985 and 1989, the 88-episode series focuses on the life and deeds of former covert operations officer Robert McCall. Haunted by his past, Mr. McCall operates outside the law when the institutions fail to protect vulnerable people. Antoine Fuqua brilliantly uses the enduring appeal of the vigilante hero, further bolstered by the powerful screen presence of Denzel Washington. “The Equalizer” was Antoine Fuqua’s second collaboration with Denzel Washington after the actor’s Oscar-winning performance in “Training Day” (2001) as the dirty cop Alonzo Harris.

The actor and director went on to collaborate on the two “Equalizer” sequels and a remake of “The Magnificent Seven” (2016). Denzel Washington’s masterful performance in “The Equalizer” (2014) is a blend of restraint and intensity. Washington’s physicality and nuanced gestures make Robert McCall...

Image
Warning! This article contains spoilers for Skeleton Crew episode 3.

Star Wars: Skeleton Crew episode 3 quickly gets to the point of explaining just who Jude Law's "Jedi" character truly is, wasting no time with big reveals pertaining to canon and Legends. Skeleton Crew episode 2's ending centered entirely on Law's introduction to the show, which certainly makes sense given his status as a well-known Hollywood star. With the rest of Skeleton Crew's cast being made up of younger actors, Law was always set to be the main selling point of the most recent Star Wars TV show.

Law's character was introduced as a prisoner of Skeleton Crew's pirate empire Port Borgo, offering to team up with Wim, Neel, Kb, and Fern to escape using his "Jedi" powers. Although this reveal is positioned as a massive moment due to the introduction of a potential new Order 66 survivor in Star Wars,...

Image
Batman fan makes the case for a famous DC character in the role of The Batman - Part II's main antagonist. Less than two years ahead of The Batman - Part II's 2026 release date, theories about its main villain's identity abound. The film, which also stars Dakota Fanning, is the third installment of the film series featuring Washington and the fifth in the Equalizer franchise, which includes the 1985 and 2021 TV shows. The original show premiered in 1985 and starred Edward Woodward as Robert McCall, a former covert operations officer turned private detective who uses his specialized training and skills to solve the problems of his clients and bring perpetrators to justice.

Every Main Character In Fatal Attraction Ranked By Their Ability To Ruin Your Life
Image
Few women in cinematic history have been vilified so much as Alex Forrest. Played by Glenn Close, this wild and seductive career woman terrorizes her married lover, Dan Gallagher (Michael Douglas), after a weekend fling in the mother of all erotic thrillers "Fatal Attraction." The original Alex is the epitome of a femme fatale and embodies the saying, "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned." Released in 1987, Adrian Lyne's film has been reevaluated through the lens of modern sexual politics, with a much more sympathetic reappraisal of Alex's character and a refusal to see Dan as the story's hapless victim. A reboot from creators Kevin J. Hynes and Alexandra Cunningham attempts to reckon with this complicated legacy in an eight-part series starring Lizzy Caplan and Joshua Jackson as the toxic lovers.

The series begins with an incarcerated Dan (Jackson) confessing his sins in a parole hearing 15 years after...

SA20: Spinner Fortuin's 3-14 helps Paarl Royals overcome Super Giants by 10 runs
Image
Paarl (South Africa), Jan 17 (Ians) Spinner Bjorn Fortuin claimed 3-14 as he along with Evan Jones (4-32) helped Paarl Royals rip through Durban’s Super Giants and claim a 10-run victory at Boland Park here on Tuesday.

Fortuin ripped through the top order, claiming the wickets of Kyle Mayers (12 off 11), Quinton de Kock (0 off 2 balls), and Dwaine Pretorius (0 off 1 ball) to leave the visitors struggling on 29-3 after 4.3 overs.

Wickets continued to fall just as it seemed the Super Giants were getting themselves back into the game, which stifled their momentum to leave them on 68-4 at the halfway mark.

Heinrich Klaasen (56* off 39 balls) combined with Keshav Maharaj (17 off 10) for a quick-fire 26-run partnership to get the Super Giants back in the contest.

However, Evan Jones bowled a superb 18th over, removing Maharaj and Hardus Viljoen in successive deliveries to leave the Super Giants needing 33 runs off the final 12 balls.

T20 World Cup: Netherlands shocker for South Africa; India secure semifinal berth
Image
Adelaide, Nov 6 (Ians) The Netherlands caused the biggest upset of the Icc T20 World Cup, defeating South Africa by 13 runs in their last Super 12 Group 2 game and showing the Temba Bavuma-led side the exit door at the Adelaide Oval here on Sunday.

The result means India, even if they lose their last Super 12 match to Zimbabwe later on Sunday, have secured a last-four berth after missing the spot in the 2021 edition of the tournament in the UAE.

South Africa’s loss has given both Pakistan and Bangladesh hope of securing the second semifinal sport from Group 2. The two teams, on four points each, will clash later on Sunday and the winner will enter the semifinal.

The Dutch were rejoicing after having pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the history of the Icc Men’s T20 World Cup and sending the Proteas tumbling out of semifinal contention.

There were...

T20 World Cup: Shadab, Iftikhar, Shaheen keep Pakistan's slim semifinal hopes alive with 33-run win over South Africa
Image
Sydney, Nov 3 (Ians) Shadab Khan produced a brilliant all-round show while Iftikhar Ahmed and Shaheen Shah Afridi played their roles to perfection to keep Pakistans slim semifinal hopes alive in the Men’s T20 World Cup with a 33-run victory over South Africa via Dls method in a rain-reduced Group 2 match at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Thursday.

The victory for Pakistan, who made 185/9 in 20 overs and restricted South Africa to 108/9 in 14 overs as per the adjustments by the Dls method, in Super 12s also meant that they maintained their perfect record over the Proteas in the history of Men’s T20 World Cups with their fourth victory in as many meetings. Pakistan are now in third place in Group 2 points table, pushing Bangladesh to fourth place.

On a chilly evening, South Africa made early strikes to push Pakistan on the back foot. Captain Babar Azam (6), Mohammad Rizwan (4) and Shan Masood (2) fell to Lungi Ngidi,...

Virat Kohli nominated for Icc Men's Player of the Month Award with David Miller, Sikandar Raza
Image
Dubai, Nov 3 (Ians) India’s talismanic batter Virat Kohli on Thursday earned a nomination for the Icc Men’s Player of the Month Award for the very first time. Alongside Kohli, in-form South Africa batter David Miller and Zimbabwe all-rounder Sikandar Raza have also been nominated for the honour.

Kohli is nominated for the very first time in the Icc Player of the Month awards, and while registering 205 runs across the calendar month of October, he showed glimpses of his very best form. He looked at ease in scoring an unbeaten 62 against a dogged Netherlands in Sydney.

But the cricketing highlight of October came in the era-defining innings played in front of a full house in Melbourne as India claimed a famous four-wicket victory against arch-rivals Pakistan. The iconic display saw Kohli rally his side from 31 for four to chase down the 160 target on the final ball, thanks to an...

Suryakumar Yadav surges to No. 1 in latest Icc Men's T20I Player Rankings
Image
Dubai, Nov 2 (Ians) India middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav has grabbed the top position for batters in the latest Icc Men’s T20I Player Rankings after smashing two half-centuries over the past week in the T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.

Yadav’s 51 not out off 25 balls against the Netherlands in Sydney and a gallant 68 off 40 against South Africa in Perth have helped him overtake New Zealand’s Devon Conway and Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan, who had held the top spot since September 4 this year.

Yadav is the 23rd player to top the T20I batting rankings and only the second Indian to reach No. 1 in T20 cricket after Virat Kohli, who spent 1,013 days at the top in different periods from September 2014 to December 2017. Yadav’s tally of 863 rating points is also the second best by an Indian, the highest being Kohli’s tally of 897 in September 2014.

New Zealand’s Glenn Phillips...

T20 World Cup: David Miller sees Pakistan's misfiring top-order an area to exploit for South Africa
Image
Sydney, Nov 2 (Ians) South Africa’s in-form batter David Miller sees Pakistan’s misfiring top-order as an area to exploit for his bowling attack and put the middle-order under pressure ahead of Thursday’s important Group 2 clash in the T20 World Cup at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

Pakistan has mostly relied on the opening pair of captain Babar Azam and wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan to get a huge chunk of their runs with the bat. But the duo haven’t been able to score big runs though Rizwan top-scored with 49 in Pakistan’s win over Netherlands at Perth while Azam’s tally in the tournament reads as 4, 4 and 0.

“I think it is an area to exploit. This game is all about confidence, and yeah, they haven’t probably performed the way they’ve wanted to, but they’re world-class players, and we’re expecting them to come out and bring their...

T20 World Cup: As semifinal race heats up, India aim for victory against Bangladesh (preview)
Image
Adelaide, Nov 1 (Ians) This week, the Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia is all about the race for the semifinals. With just a couple of matches to go, teams in the reckoning to get into the last-four stage will be looking to inch closer by correcting their mistakes and getting those crucial wins in their kitty.

For India, their fourth Super 12 match against Group 2 opponents Bangladesh at the Adelaide Oval on Wednesday is a good opportunity to correct the wrongs from their five-wicket loss to South Africa at Perth in order to keep themselves in the hunt for a spot in semifinals.

“We’re very confident, but we know we have to play very, very well from here on if we want to win. It’s really a question of winning the next four games, really. You have to win the next four games to be able to win this tournament,...

Did India err in choosing Ashwin instead of Axar as lone spinner?
Image
India ended up losing the game to South Africa who perched themselves on top of the Super 12 Group 2 league table displacing India after that victory.

Both Ashwin and Axar were fielded in the game against the Netherlands on October 27 at the more spin-friendly Sydney Cricket Ground and played their part in the comprehensive victory for India by 56 runs.

Left-arm spinner Axar picked up 2 for 18 after deceiving Max O’Dowd with a perfectly-directed arm ball. He later added the scalp of Bas de Leede. He sent back two out of the top-three Netherlands batters.

Off-spinner Ashwin also picked up two wickets giving away 21 runs and both his victims, two down batter Colin Ackermann and number five Tom Cooper, were taken out in the space of four balls.

Both spinners were effective in unsettling the Netherlands top order and their strikes within the first 13 overs, along with the first blow by Bhuvaneshwar Kumar,...

Lungi Ngidi was surprised to be in the playing XI versus India
Image
He was picked for two of the five matches in the bilateral series held in India in June and then again in two matches out of five in the series held earlier this month before the start of the Icc T20 World Cup now on in Australia.

In the last two games at Guwahati and Indore, he had been expensive giving away 49 and 51 runs respectively while scalping two Indian batsmen in the latter match on October 4.

Thus it was not surprising to learn from him after he had demolished the star Indian batting line-up with an incisive spell of fast bowling that fetched him four wickets, including those of captain Rohit Sharma and former skipper Virat Kohli, that he was surprised to be told that he was playing the crucial game at the Perth Stadium.

"It was a bit of a nerve-wracking day. To be honest we didn’t know...

The Morrisville Samp Army is one of two new teams, the other being New York Strikers, in the 8-team tournament. The Samp Army’s first game will be against the Bangla Tigers on November 24.

Samp Army’s icon player is South African David Miller, who is among the most explosive batters in white-ball cricket, and Klusener is keen to make the most of abilities during the sixth season.

Speaking ahead of the season, the former South African cricketer said that he is expecting to see his batters do a fair amount of the heavy lifting, by clearing the ropes with high frequency, much like he did during his playing days.

T20 World Cup: Perth set to witness intense India-South Africa clash in race for top spot in Group 2 (preview)
Image
Perth, Oct 29 (Ians) Playing in Perth, the capital of Western Australia, requires some adjustments for the cricketers to make off the field. Apart from the five-hour travel time from one part of the country to another end, Perth’s time zone is also three hours behind cities like Melbourne and Sydney.

Moreover, with the Men’s T20 World Cup being rain-hit this week, the unpredictability of the weather has to be countered too, with light rain and dark clouds hovering around in Perth. In this backdrop, the Perth Stadium is all set to witness an intense clash between India and South Africa for the race to be toppers of Group 2 in Super 12s on Sunday.

India are the current table toppers of the group with victories over Pakistan and the Netherlands, while South Africa, boasting of a superior net run rate, could have been there if not for rain washing...
