Norma Burke is a filmmaker developing comedy projects for film,
television and the web under the production label n2o Entertainment (so
called because n2o = the chemical symbol for nitrous oxide or laughing
gas and has the first two letters of her name).
She began her career as an English student making films with the Cambridge University Film and Television Society and went on to work in PR for Shelter, the National Campaign for the Homeless and then financial publishing, spending several years as a advertising sales manager at Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC.
Whilst doing this job she produced several short films and co-founded a series of film and TV masterclasses to support new film makers, which were sponsored by Channel 4 and United International Pictures. These featured leading directors such as Mike Newell, Ken Loach, John Madden, Alan Parker and Michael Moore.
She then left Euromoney to work as an executive for Azure Films where she worked across production, script development and business affairs as well as raising investment for a slate of films including the award winning 'Ae Fond Kiss', the Rowan Atkinson comedy 'Keeping Mum' and 'Tales of the Riverbank', voiced by comic talents including Stephen Fry and Steve Coogan.
In 2007 she was selected for a hothousing programme for film producers funded by Skillset and spent nine months working in-house at some of the leading companies in the UK, including Universal, Disney, Optimum Releasing, Momentum Pictures, the UK Film Council and Vue Cinemas.
n2o's first production, the comedy short Get Lucky starring Ralf Little, Isy Suttie, Greg Davies and Tanya Franks will premiere at the 2012 BFI London Film Festival. The film is financed by the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund and Working Title Films and sponsored by Pinewood Studios, Kodak, Technicolour and Arri Media. Get Lucky is the directorial debut of Norma Burke and produced by Emmy, Golden Globe and Producer's Guild of America award winning producer Nigel Marchant.
As a comedy promoter she set up and runs a stand up comedy night which allows comedians to try out new material on mixed bills as well as preview hour long shows. '1 Mighty Craic' launched in July 2008 and has hosted a roll call of household names and rising stars of the circuit.
