The line-ups for six juries at this year’s Filmfest Hamburg (Sept 26 to Oct 5) have been revealed.

The all-German jury that will award the Hamburg producer prize for German cinema productions includes actress Susanne Wolff (Styx), director Ilker Çatak and editor Sebastian Thümler, who worked on Özgür Yildirim’s Only God Can Judge Me. The award comes with a €25,000 cash prize.

Judging the German producer in an international co-production award are Serbian cinematographer Ivan Markovic, Swiss producer Ivan Madeo and German-Swiss dramaturg and curator András Siebold.

Turner International has ordered the third and final season of the hit German gangster series “4 Blocks,” which world-premiered at the Berlin Film Festival last year and went on to win multiple awards.

The third season will comprise six episodes and will be directed by Özgür Yıldırım, who had co-helmed Season 2 with Oliver Hirschbiegel. It will start shooting in the spring and is scheduled to premiere next winter.

Amazon Prime Video will stream the series’ second season across more than 150 countries, including the U.S and the U.K., starting Saturday, followed by another 50 countries, including Germany and France, in late 2019. The series will be available on Amazon Prime in German and dubbed into Spanish, Portuguese and Italian, with subtitles in many more languages, including English, Chinese and Japanese. An English-language dubbed version of both seasons will be delivered in January.

Adaptation of Mirjam Mous’ bestseller to star David Kross.

German production companies Hamster Film and Action Concept have announced that Özgür Yildirim will direct Boy7.

Yildirim’s third feature is an adaptation of Mirjam Mous’ bestseller of the same name, and will star David Kross in the titular role of an 18-year-old bot who wakes up in a crowded subway with no idea of who he is or how he got there.

Emilia Schüle also stars in the teenage thriller, set to start shooting in April.

Hamster Film’s Dorothe Beinemeier commented: “We are so excited to have Özgür directing this thrilling story. He is one of the few filmmakers in Germany who has the talent and the street credibility to reach our young adult target audience, which is the most challenging and at the same time most important future audience.”

Chiko is the Tony Montana-wannabe of Hamburg. Actor Denis Moschetto puts in a superb performance as a gross materialist who rejects his social standing, culture and family to embrace the entrepreneurial dream of modern times. Its predictable narrative trajectory allows the film great tension as the ever-growing sense of tragedy mounts.

It’s not the how or why that’s important, but the when. Time is definitely not on this anti-hero’s side. Inspired by real-life events, the World War II drama John Rabe won the 2009 German Film Academy’s Lola for best film. Directed by Florian Gallenberger, John Rabe tells the story of a German businessman (best actor winner Ulrich Tukur) credited with saving more than 200,000 Chinese during the Nanjing (then Nanking) massacre of 1937-38. Additionally, John Rabe, which has been a box-office disappointment in Germany, won Lolas for best production design (Tu Ju Hua) and best costume design (Lisy Christl). I believe it’s safe to say that Gallenberger’s film will be Germany’s submission for the 2010 best foreign-language film Academy Award. And that it’ll land an Oscar nomination. Berlin – "John Rabe," an historic biopic about the German business man who saved 200,000 Chinese civilians from the Nanking massacre, is the front runner for this year's German Film Awards – or Lolas – with seven nominations.

The film's nominations include best film, best director for Florian Gallenberger and a best actor for star Ulrich Tukur as Rabe.

Steve Buscemi also picked up a nomination as best supporting actor for his role as an idealistic American doctor who helps Rabe. It was one of the few Lola nominations ever given to a non-German actor.

Uli Edel's Golden Globe and Oscar-nominated terrorist drama "The Baader Meinhof Complex" picked up four Lola noms, including best film and best actress for Johanna Wokalek.

"Chiko," a gangster movie by first time director Ozgur Yildirim, surprised many by also nabbing a best film nom along with ones for Yildirim's screenplay, for lead actor Denis Moschitto and for editor Sebastian Thumler.
