The Class of 2025 will be announced in late April, and will formally be enshrined during an induction ceremony held in Los Angeles this fall. The inductees will be determined by an international voting body of more than 1,200 artists, historians, and members of the music industry, in addition to a fan vote on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame’s website.

The nominations for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame’s Class of 2024 are in – and the list includes Mariah Carey, Phish, Outkast, Oasis, Billy Idol, Cyndi Lauper, Joy Division/New Order, Soundgarden, the White Stripes, Joe Cocker, Bad Company, Black Crowes, Chubby Checker, and Maná.

DJ Unk, the Atlanta rapper who had a Top 10 pop single with “Walk It Out” in 2006 and followed with the R&b hit “2 Step,” died Friday. He was 42. His wife Sherkita Long-Platt posted the news on social media but did not provide a cause or place of death.

“Please respect me and my family,” she wrote on Facebook. “I just lost my husband and my kids just lost their father. Our life will never be the same. I Love You Anthony Forever.”

Born on November 28, 1982, in the Georgia capital, DJ Unk (real name Anthony Platt) broken into the music game as part of the Atlanta-based Southern Style DJs. He later signed with local label Big Oomp and recorded his debut Beat’n Down Yo Block!, which became the label’s first album to be distributed under a then-new deal with Koch Records.

In just a few short years, Phil Matarese and Mike Luciano have gone from working at an ad agency in New York to writing about the animals that live in New York on HBO’s “Animals.” At their panel at SXSW this year, moderated by IndieWire’s Eric Kohn and accompanied by producer Jen Roskind, the three of them detailed how a small independent pilot managed to get picked up by HBO. They also offered some sneak peeks into what the unpredictable series has to offer, going into Season 2.

Ed Stroud is a guitar player from Atlanta, who’s played with music world luminaries from TLC to OutKast.

His poodle Gracie was determined to keep it that way.

Stroud’s home caught fire on Dec. 20, and he credits Gracie with waking him up in time to escape the burning house.

Stroud told Channel 2 Action News that he was asleep when Gracie began licking his face and barking. When he came to his senses, his home was already ablaze.

Eddie Murphy's career has certainly taken a 180-degree turn from his heyday, but that doesn't mean he wasn't making some pretty great films at one time. Plans to make a Jimi Hendrix biopic starring Outkast's Andre 3000 may have hit a snag: The family of the late rock legend is against it, saying that they won't allow rights to the music. According to the Wall Street Journal, Experience Hendrix LLC, the family-owned company that manages Hendrix's music and publishing, released a statement saying that it does not support the film. The years between 2000 and 2009 were very good for Beyoncé, 'Nsync, Michael Jackson and Nickelback, according to figures released by the Recording Industry Association of America on Wednesday. The music-industry trade association tallied gold (500,000) and platinum (1 million) certifications for the first decade of the 2000s, and those coming out at the top of the heap also include Kanye West, Taylor Swift, Linkin Park, Flo Rida and Lil Wayne.

The big winner, though, was Beyoncé, who topped all lists with the most total gold and platinum certifications at 64, which includes tallies for cumulative album, digital song, master ringtone and music video certifications. She was followed by classic rock act the Eagles, who had 48 total certifications, and the late Michael Jackson at 44.

The film industry may be currently going through a crisis, but it's got nothing on the music biz. Over the past decade, there was a paradigm shift in the industry and huge, fundamental changes in the way people discover, buy and listen to music. Ten years ago, the idea that everyone would cease going to record stores to flip through plastic discs and would instead buy music digitally, completely devoid of a physical medium, only existed in a fringe world called Napster.

Now record stores are all but gone, and the album as an art form exists only in the fringe world of purists. We've become slaves to the mp3 single and the little sweatshop-produced devices we rely on to listen to them. The new Luddite is just the poor iPhoneless wretch who manages to get by with only a BlackBerry.

The volume of music has changed too, in both decibels and quantity.

New York -- In anticipation of its fifth annual "VH1 Hip Hop Honors" telecast, VH1 will premiere two original hip-hop themed programs. "100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs" and "VH1 Rock Doc: NWA: The World's Most Dangerous Group" will air Sept. 29 and Oct. 3, respectively.

"100 Greatest Hip-Hop Songs" is a five-part series that will count down the best hip-hop songs of all time, revealing the story behind each hit and updating viewers on what the artists are doing today. MIAMI -- Hip-hop duo OutKast and rap mogul Jay-Z split the riches at the 21st annual MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday night -- both winning four trophies apiece, with OutKast claiming the top prize -- video of the year -- for its hilarious 1960s sendup "Hey Ya!" OutKast -- rappers Andre 3000 and Big Boi -- which went into the evening with five nominations, also was honored for top hip-hop video as well as for art direction and special effects. Jay-Z's stark "99 Problems" -- in which he is dramatically gunned down at the conclusion -- was nominated six times and won for direction, cinematography, editing and rap video of the year. It also was a good night for five-time-nominee Usher, whose hit single "Yeah!" (featuring Lil' Jon & Ludacris), won in the male video and dance categories.
