Although the television medium has produced a variety of long-running series, not every show that graces TV screens can have long-term success. Television shows often suffer from weak writing, characterization or circumstances outside their control, reducing many series with major potential to a footnote in the pop culture zeitgeist.

That said, while there are plenty of subpar TV shows that remain exactly that from beginning to end, there are some series that, despite some rough spots, redeem themselves with surprisingly noteworthy endings. Cult of Love, the upcoming new Broadway play by Star Wars: The Acolyte writer and showrunner Leslye Headland, will feature a cast that includes Shailene Woodley (Big Little Lies), Zachary Quinto (American Horror Story), and Barbie Ferreira (Euphoria), producers announced today.

The Second Stage Theater production, directed by Trip Cullman, also will feature Molly Bernard (Younger), Roberta Colindrez (Broadway’s Fun Home), Rebecca Henderson (Star Wars: Acolyte), Christopher Lowell (Glow) and Christopher Sears (Off Broadway’s The Harvest).

Quinto is no stranger to Broadway – his credits include The Boys in the Band and The Glass Menagerie – while Woodley and Ferrari will be making their Broadway debuts.

The play, in its New York premiere, will begin previews on November 20 at Second Stage’s Helen Hayes Theater, with an official opening on December 12.

In a new interview, the American Pie alum revealed she had an idea for a reboot that would focus on Jason Segel’s character, Marshall Eriksen.

The cancelation news comes less than two months after How I Met Your Father Season 2 finale aired on the streaming platform. How I Met Your Father serves as a spinoff to the beloved How I Met Your Mother, which aired on CBS from 2005 to 2014. While it isn't a direct sequel, it shares the same New York City backdrop as its predecessor. In addition, the series even welcomed guest appearances from familiar Himym faces, such as Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris, along with other alums from the original show including Laura Bell Bundy, Joe Nieves, and Kyle MacLachlan. Characters portrayed by Christopher Lowell and Suraj Sharma reside in the apartment previously inhabited by Ted, played by Josh Radnor, and Marshall, played by Jason Segel, from the original series.

The news comes two days after the Disney-run streamer canceled The Great. How I Met Your Father, which stars Hilary Duff, ended its second season in July and did not answer the implied question in its title.

How I Met Your Father is a spinoff of How I Met Your Mother, which ran on CBS from 2005-14. Though not a direct sequel, it’s set in the same version of New York as the original series and has featured guest appearances from Himym stars Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris, among other alumni of that show. Poor performances and an overly ambitious script hold back Jennifer Reeder's Perpetrator from reaching its full potential. While there are some effective horror moments and a mysterious plot, the film lacks consistency and fails to fully develop its villains. Despite its supernatural, feminist themes, and promising young talent, Perpetrator ultimately suffers from uneven acting and a lack of focus in its storytelling.

Jennifer Reeder’s Perpetrator has some fun ideas but is held back by poor performances and a script that is juggling too much. Growing up is tough. Perhaps it's a bit trickier if you're a descendant of witches. But on a universal level, turning the age 18 is a big milestone, and for the rebellious teen at the center of writer-director Jennifer Reeder's new film Perpetrator, the big birthday comes with more than just well wishes. The end result is a blood-soaked psychological thriller that's sometimes a slow burn but still weaves in some occasional dark humor; the absurd society that serves as the film's setting will surely come off as satirical.

Perpetrator is a dark tale that's not for everyone, but you just might see an angsty, younger version of yourself in the film's protagonist as she navigates a new school and a creepy extended family. Coming-of-Age with a Twist

A teenager who develops supernatural powers upon coming of age is a pretty common plot device in genre fiction, from vampire and werewolf stories to Marvel's mutants, but writer-director Jennifer Reeder puts a unique artistic spin on it in Perpetrator. The essential elements of the plot involve 18-year-old Jonny (Kiah McKirnan) discovering her newfound powers and using them to take down a villain who's been abducting, torturing, and murdering teenage girls in the town where she lives. Nothing about Perpetrator is that straightforward, though, and Reeder creates a dreamlike world in which superheroes and serial killers are defined by poetic, ineffable longing as much as by power and violence.

The mannered, arch tone of Perpetrator may be off-putting to genre fans at first, but Reeder drops the audience right into her surreal vision. The opening scene features a point-of-view shot from inside a killer's mask as the mysterious figure stalks...

How I Met Your Father returns after a mid-season hiatus on Tuesday, May 23 on Hulu, and last we saw the gang, Sophie (Hilary Duff), after a run-in with Himym‘s Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) and thinking she might be dating her dad (John Corbett), has decided to find her father. “I don’t think that she would’ve ever found her father. I don’t think there’s that many people in her life that were pushing her to do that,” Duff told TV Insider. “The Neil thing was, in perfect Isaac [Aptaker] and Elizabeth [Berger, executive producers] fashion, so funny, but so real and it provided growth for his character that no one saw, to know that he went along through his life to do the work and had some really lovely things happen to him like a daughter and tried to get rid of some of the predatory vibes of his past.

The How I Met Your Father crew is returning to cap off their Season 2 adventures sooner than fans think.

Hulu confirmed that the second half of the fan-favorite sitcom's second season will return on May 23, continuing the story of Sophie (Hilary Duff) and her friends as they embark on more shenanigans around New York City in an effort to find love and happiness. While it's currently unknown how long the returning installment's runtime is, fans can expect the remaining episodes to follow as she searches for her real father, having been inspired by a heart-to-heart conversation with returning character Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) in the midseason finale.
