End of Days (1999) – Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie?
Image
The end of the 1990s was an odd time for cinema and in general. We were in the midst of Y2K, a panic over clocks and computers needing to roll over from 99 to 00, something people feared more than monsters and cults, something people really feared and fearmongered about. It was expected to be something of an apocalypse by some. So of course, Hollywood ran with it. Technology gone wrong, end of days, Satan coming to Earth, etc. We got films like Strange Days, Stigmata, eXistenZ, Virus, The Matrix, and End of Days (watch it Here), our movie today.

Following a dry patch of work for Arnold Schwarzenegger following Batman & Robin and heart surgery, he didn’t get all that many offers and eventually, it seemed like he would not be coming back. Then, End of Days came his way, and it seemed like a good, if darker than his then-recent work,...

The Twisted Metal TV Series Is A Total Blast – And There May Be A Secret Reason For Its Success
Image
This piece was written during the 2023 WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. Without the labor of the writers and actors currently on strike, the series being reviewed here wouldn't exist.

Video games have the ability to transport players to interactive worlds beyond their wildest imagination, defeat bosses to become the hero they wish they could be in real life, and step inside an identity that they wouldn't otherwise understand. Or, in the case of a game like "Twisted Metal," drive an armored ice cream truck and blow up enemies with a remote-controlled rocket launcher. The vehicular combat video game was the lifeblood of the Dorito-dusted finger lickers of America in the late '90s and early 00s, and while there is a story players can follow ... most people opt to obliterate their pals with nuclear weapons. Yet, somehow, Peacock adapted the game into one of the most entertaining new series of the year.

Mike Patton at an event for The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
Dead Cross' Church Music Video Is the Best Horror Short of 2017
Mike Patton at an event for The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
Hardcore super group Dead Cross, featuring ex-Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo and Faith No More vocalist Mike Patton, have just released a new video for their song "Church of the Motherf---ers" and it's the best horror short of the year. This is the band's second video off of their debut album and it is an intense look at religion with some harsh undertones of what has been happening in the entertainment industry's sexual misconduct scandals. When a band sounds as brutal as Dead Cross, it's hard to find imagery that heightens that feeling instead of parodying it, and director Michael Panduro has done a perfect job of capturing the pure essence of this type of music.

The Fight Club-themed video for "Church of the Motherf--ers" opens with a quote from German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, who states, "The influence of a man has never yet grown great without his blind pupils.

Former Faith No More Singer Chuck Mosley Passes Away at 57
Mike Patton and Faith No More
Sad news for longtime Faith No More fans. Former singer Chuck Mosley, who had reunited with the band in recent years, has passed away. No firm cause of death is being discussed. Though family members did have an interesting thing to say about his untimely demise. They blame his recent passing on addiction. It isn't known if the singer and songwriter succumbed to a drug overdose or alcohol related issues at this time.

Chuck Mosley had spent the past several years living as a sober person. And though he had been fired from Faith No More in the late 80s, the singer did get back together with the iconic band over the past couple of years, after Fnm launched their first new album in over two decades with Sol Invictus, back in 2015.

Mosley passed away late Friday night. His family released the following statement.

"After a long period of sobriety,...

Stephen King's 1922 Trailer Teases Mike Patton's Spooky Score
Mike Patton at an event for The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
Netflix has just released the first trailer for their adaptation of Stephen King's novella, 1922, which is set to debut next month. Not only does the trailer look creepy, but it also sounds unsettling, thanks to Mike Patton's fantastic soundtrack that recalls a twisted take on a Hitchcock score. In a recent interview to promote the incredibly successful It, King alerted fans that this adaptation was really special and that it really "creeped" him out when he saw the rough cut. The legendary horror author also mentioned that he couldn't stop thinking about it, which is a good indicator since he basically said the same thing about the big screen adaptation if It.

The first trailer for 1922 comes to us courtesy of the official Netflix YouTube account and it is an uncomfortable two and a half minutes to say the least. Adding to the uneasiness is the original score...

Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
Stephen King Was Seriously Creeped Out by Netflix's 1922
Stephen King at an event for The Manchurian Candidate (2004)
Netflix's 1922 is an adaptation of Stephen King's short novella of the same name from the Full Dark, No Stars collection and the legendary author is claiming that the rough cut that he saw of the movie is "super creepy" and that it "won't leave his mind." Netflix quietly announced that the adaptation of 1922 was underway in November of last year and that the project would be helmed by Zak Hilditch (These Final Hours) and star Thomas Jane (The Punisher, The Mist) and Molly Parker (The Road) with Dylan Schmid, Kaitlyn Bernard, Brian D'Arcy James, and Neal McDonough. The project is apparently near completion and even in the rough-cut stage, it has Stephen King's seal of approval.

Not much has been reported about Netflix's 1922, but King seemed pretty excited to bring it up during a recent interview. King spoke to Yahoo Movies about 1922 as well as the many other...

10 classic Tfi Friday moments, from Shaun Ryder swearing to Freak or Unique
In 1996, Chris Evans and Danny Baker launched a show that would become as synonymous with 1990s as the Spice Girls and Eric Cantona.

Tfi Friday was the perfect show of its time, airing every Friday evening on Channel 4 and featuring as much Britpop and silly anarchic humour as you could ask for.

Ahead of its one-off comeback show this Friday (June 12), Digital Spy has collected just some of the most memorable and hilarious moments from its five years on air.

1. Shaun Ryder says "f**k" on live TV. In front of your mum.

Pity Chris Evans. With a mouth dodgier than the bizarre moustache he was sporting at the time, it was always going to be something of a liability bringing indie music's chief party-monster Shaun Ryder onto a family show that aired at just 6pm.

"If you don't swear tonight, I'll give you my shoes!" promised Evans, only...

Saturday Night Live (1975)
John Goodman hosts 'Saturday Night Live' for the 13th time: Talk about it here!
Saturday Night Live (1975)
With all the hubbub surrounding Saturday Night Live’s imminent cast addition, it could be easy to forget that there will be a new episode of the show tonight. But SNL does indeed have 90 minutes of new material (minus commercials and wailing from Kings of Leon) to present for our viewing pleasure this evening — and it’s going to be good.

Why do I predict that? Because of this:

And this:

And, of course, this:

In short: It’s crazy — criminal, even — that John Goodman hasn’t hosted an episode of Saturday Night Live since November of 2001.

With 12 stints under his belt,...

Review: Tomahawk's 'Oddfellows,' the rock band's first album in five years
Mike Patton and Faith No More
After years and years as a rock chameleon -- in Fantômas, Mr. Bungle, Faith No More and Tomahawk -- Mike Patton, again, proves himself a master of mic technique on the latter's first album in five years, "Oddfellows." All at once wily, sensual, bonkers and practiced, that voice demands an equally versatile backing and a collaborative spirit to keep Tomahawk fans guessing. Here, Patton grinds down "Oddfellows'" 13 songs with other members of Fantômas and Mr. Bungle, the Jesus Lizard's axeman Duane Denison and Battles drummer John Stanier. The result is a collection worthy of repeat listens, thought it's not always...

Short Starts: Watch ‘The Hobbit’ Star Martin Freeman in ‘I Just Want to Kiss You’
There’s a great short starring Martin Freeman making the rounds this week, and I recommend watching that two-year-old film, titled The Girl is Mime, when you get the chance. But there’s another short led by the actor that I’d like to showcase this weekend in anticipation of The Hobbit. Way back in 1998, before Freeman was in Sherlock or The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy or Love Actually or even his breakthrough, the original UK version of The Office, he had two small yet notable gigs. One was appearing alongside Doctor Who‘s Shaun Dingwall in Vito Rocco’s music video for Faith No More’s cover of “I Started a Joke.” The other was starring in the 11-minute black and white film I Just Want to Kiss You. Written and directed by Jamie Thraves, best known for music videos he’s helmed for Blur, Radiohead and Coldplay, this...

Antlered Man Interview and Gig Review
Here at Whatculture, we’re always on the lookout for the hottest new bands, and following our review of their debut album earlier this year, we caught up with the guys in Antlered Man a few hours before they took to the stage for the first night of their Villains and Vigilantes tour in the intimate setting of Southampton’s Joiners.

Wc – Hi guys, cheers for coming, can I just get a quick band introduction before we get going?

Sam – I’m Sam, I play bass.

Danny – Danny, I play guitar.

Ollie – Ollie, drums.

Damo – Damo, I’m on vocals. Old dirty Damo, they call me.

Wc – Hahaha, first things first then, the name Antlered Man, where does it come from?

Danny – Well, we wanted something that sounded really formidable and cool. There’s too many clichéd names out there, so we just thought we’d go for something different,...

The American Scene – Safe For Now Review.
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars

The American Scene are a small time band with big upcoming potential. From Berkeley California, their aspirations and goals were no doubt set high from the beginning due to the history of big names coming from the San Francisco Bay and greater California area such as Faith No More, Journey, Jefferson Starship, Papa Roach and Train. There must be something in the air to produce such individuals to go on to worldwide success, so does it look like The American Scene also carries this potential?

Their recently released album Safe For Now (7th August) is their first full length album which was released under Pure Noise Records. This contains 10 well crafted and powerful tracks which has the potential to be enjoyed by all. Their evident Punk/ Rock/ Pop vocals combined with a slight Indie twist, has a soft vibe yet times where they don’t seem...

Sorry, Adam Lambert fans: Queen reveal Sonisphere 2012 has been cancelled
Freddie Mercury
Turns out bands including Kiss, Queen, Marilyn Manson, Faith No More and The Darkness will not be performing at this year's Sonisphere music festival, as the event has reportedly been cancelled. The source? Queen, slated to perform with "American Idol" alum Adam Lambert, revealed the news via their official website earlier today (though the offending post has since mysteriously disappeared). Further evidence of the cancellation comes from the ticketing section of the official Sonisphere website, which appears to been rendered inactive. "It is with very heavy hearts and much regret that we announce the cancellation of Sonisphere Knebworth 2012," read the...

Step In Fluid – One Step Beyond Album Review
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Brainchild of Huran Demiraslan (guitarist and keyboard player for French death metallers Trepalium) and Florent Marcadet (drummer for experimental psyche metallers Klone). Initially spawned out of the pair’s mutual appreciation of Meshuggah, jazz, funk, African rhythms and experimentation within the limits of rock and metal, the two would go on to jam with each other for a number of years before in 2009 deciding to take this jam project and make a band around its ideas.

Step In Fluid was born, picking up the remaining members of mutual friends and fellow experimenters throughout the year before the project began to fully take form with the help of producer Fabien Guilloteau. The culmination of all this work being their debut album One Step Beyond, which sees itself getting its worldwide release this week.

Take one melting pot, pour in an extreme metal past and a penchant for Meshuggah,...

Hawkeyes – Ideas Album Review
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

I was lucky enough to stumble across these guys a few years back when I happened to, in the spur-of-the-moment, catch them in a gig. They were then known as Chickenhawk and were the opening band. I can’t remember now who else was playing, that’s what drink does for you, but what I do remember is that Chickenhawk blew me away with their Diy, abrasive take on hardcore/punk. Only a handful of people were watching them but that didn’t seem to phase the band at all, they played as if their lives depended on it and made for an awesome atmosphere that only good, talented hardcore bands can manage to create. They made such an impression that I went and bought their album ‘Modern Bodies’, and this only added to the effect they first had on me: I knew I’d come...

Music: Music Review: Imperial Teen: Feel The Sound
On 2007’s The Hair The TV The Baby And The Band, intermittent indie-rock concern Imperial Teen attempted to square its rock ’n’ roll lifestyle with the reality of middle age. “And now we have to book the rental cars / We no longer smash guitars,” sang Roddy Bottum (of Faith No More fame) on the resigned “Room With A View.” The new Feel The Sound—Imperial Teen’s first album in five years—is similarly adult-minded, but remarkably more assured and hopeful. It’s the sound of a band comfortable in its own skin, but still not afraid to embrace ...

Mike Patton Will ‘Crank’ Up Derek Cianfrance’s ‘The Place Beyond The Pines’
With the Brooklyn-based indie band Grizzly Bear providing the perfect score for Derek Cianfrance‘s drama Blue Valentine, we’ve been eager to get news on who will take care of his crime film The Place Beyond the Pines. It looks like it will get a bit more edge, with the announcement of a composer today via press release.

Faith No More frontman and Mr. Bungle singer Mike Patton has signed on to do the score. No other details provided, but we can look towards his work on Crank: High Voltage, as well as providing songs to films like Black Hawk Down. Patton is also no stranger to other elements of film production, providing narration for last year’s Bunraku and work on I Am Legend. It is a surprising choice, but Cianfrance is said to be a big fan and I look forward to seeing how he fits in here.

An Intimate Evening With Girl Talk
By Zachary Swickey

Norman, Okla. – I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that the world’s greatest party-thrower, Girl Talk, was going to be at the Opolis – a tiny venue in the college town of Norman, Oklahoma, that showcases indie acts and local bands with a capacity well below 200. This must be some kind of mistake, I thought, but just the thought of seeing such a huge act in such an intimate setting was awesome.

Turns out, Girl Talk – also known by his common name, Greg Gillis – is in the midst of a guerilla tour of sorts that is hitting up only eight college cities across the states. For the Axe One Night Only Tour 2011, Gillis is going old-school by performing secret shows in low capacity venues, announcing details of the gigs just days before show time via the Axe Facebook page (four more secret stops are scheduled for this Tuesday through Friday,...

Bands We Like: Battles
By Zachary Swickey

New York City indie noisemakers Battles will be celebrating their tenth anniversary next year and it’s been quite the tumultuous journey for the trio. Not many bands can boast guest appearances from Gary Numan (“Cars”) or indie darlings Blonde Redhead’s Kazu Makino on their new record, but I imagine it went rather smoothly for Battles – a band that flies under the mainstream radar but has caught the ears of many dedicated audiophiles.

Battles are a trio, consisting of guitarist/keyboardist Ian Williams, bassist/guitarist/effects master Dave Konopka, and drummer John Stanier, who is the ex-stickman for '90s alt-rock outfit Helmet as well as the drummer for Tomahawk, one of Faith No More singer Mike Patton’s many side projects. The group originated as a quartet that included multi-instrumentalist Tyondai Baxton, who was also the first to inject vocals into the predominantly instrumental group’s sound,...

The James Cleaver Quintet – That Was Then, This Is Now Review

Many will already be familiar with The James Cleaver Quintet without realizing, though it’s an unfortunate thing to have down as prior. You know that musically painful Lucozade advert with the band playing Buck Rogers by Feeder as they roll and ride down a hill, amps and all, on a variety of boards and bikes. Where the little kid in you kind of thought, ‘that’s pretty cool,’ but then the grown up and holier than thou music fan in you thought ‘shit,’ ‘knobs,’ and ‘shitknobs.’ That was these guys, some might say selling out before they had ought to sell.

Well forget that. Tell that ever so eloquent grown up side of you, to be quiet and sit down, though keep listening, and bring back that Adhd enjoying inner child of yours for a listen too, of That Was Then, This Is Now. A...

You would think after being possessed by a demon, going to war with his own crime boss uncle and having the love of his life murdered before his very eyes, anti-hero Jackie Estacado would have re-evaluated his lifestyle and retreated to a hippie commune in the Catskills. Or worse.

Instead, with his uncle and former don of the Franchetti Crime family out of the way and his demonic interloper, known as the Darkness (creepily voiced again by Faith No More’s Mike Patton), under control, Jackie is now the head of the family, doing his best to leave any non-mafia unpleasantness behind him.

Chris Cornell
Exclusive: Chris Cornell Talks Machine Gun Preacher
Chris Cornell
The musician contributes a theme song to the soundtrack, and reveals the secrets behind the first Soundgarden album in fifteen years

Machine Gun Preacher is based on the true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who finds faith leading him on a path to East Africa. Shocked by the mayhem in Sudan, Childers becomes a crusader for hundreds of refugee children. Inspired to create a safe haven for the multitudes fleeing enslavement by the brutal Lord's Resistance Army, he restores peace to their lives and eventually his own.

The Machine Gun Preacher soundtrack features 15 score cues performed and composed by acclaimed musical group Asche & Spencer, as accompanied by the 60-piece Slovak National Symphony Orchestra. The symphony was recorded in a historic facility outside Vienna Austria in the town of Bratislava. Vladimir Martinka conducted the session, which was orchestrated by Sean McMahon & David Shephard.

Mike Patton to Release Film Score Album
Singer-producer Mike Patton, of Faith No More and Mr. Bungle fame (among many other groups), has announced yet another album to add to his prolific musical catalog. No, he's not doing a Faith No More reunion album, nor is he recording with his avant-metal band Fantômas or most recent project Peeping Tom. For this one, he's venturing out on his own — and what's more, it's going to be a film score.

Nirvana's Nevermind Made 1991 Rock, But Was It The Greatest Year?
On September 24, Nirvana's epochal Nevermind turns 20 ... a milestone that's not only given us pause (since it's downright unfathomable to anyone who came of age during that era) but has caused us to reflect on what, in retrospect, was a pretty staggeringly great year for rock music in general.

Because, while Nevermind gets the majority of the headlines, there were no shortage of other iconic albums released that year, too ... a fact we illustrated last week, when we shone the spotlight on some of '91's greatest; everything from alt-rock tent poles like the Red Hot Chili Peppers' Blood Sugar Sex Magik and Pearl Jam's Ten to big-budget blockbusters like Metallica's Black album and Guns N' Roses' Use Your Illusion series and overlooked indie gems like Fugazi's Steady Diet of Nothing and Slint's Spiderland.

In a lot of ways, it seems like 1991 was the last year rock truly rocked.

Big Brother, Episode 15 Recap: “I Can’t Take Any More Women Crying”
Here is Sean Furfaro's recap of Big Brother, Episode 15.

At the end of Sunday's episode, Rachel and Jeff were on the block, with Rachel as the supposed target for eviction. After a few days in the house, is that still the case? What changes (if any) will the Pov bring? And who is celebrating a milestone birthday?

My Random Thoughts:

- Rachel ranted that Kalia’s nominations were actually the handiwork of Daniele, and that this HoH was “100% Daniele’s”, which I believe is the earliest occasion this season that we’ve had to take a drink in our drinking game, 18 seconds.

Rachel had another blow-up, of course, and tried to chase Daniele and verbally attack her, but Shelly stopped her and played the role of Brendon trying to calm her down. Only instead of telling her how he loved her and how beautiful she was, she tried to use...

Comic-Con Antics, 'Game Of Thrones' Art And Lucian Freud In Today's Twitter Report
Comic creator tweets are fun to follow during Comic-Con International week, because they tend to keep appearing all night long. From pictures of run-ins between Stan Lee and Taylor Lautner to hang-outs with "A Game of Thrones" author George R.R. Martin, the feed was loaded with fun this morning.

It's also a great week to watch for art posts. Take, for example, a really awesome Jon Snow portrait posted by Michael Cho. Check out his link, some on-stage panel shots and some words from Simon Fraser on the passing of artist Lucian Freud.

I'm @brianwarmoth, and this is your Twitter Report for July 22, 2011.

Celebrating Bill And Ted's Bogus Journey at 20
Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey celebrates its 20th birthday. Seb looks back at the film that made the Grim Reaper play Twister...

The Grim Reaper. Evil robot duplicates from the future. The Easter bunny. A seven-foot tall gestalt-entity scientist from Mars. The late George Carlin in a zip-up Pam Grier costume. Good robot duplicates assembled from vacuum cleaner parts. “Sir James Martin of Faith No More”. And, of course, killing off the lead characters by the close of the first act.

No, Bill And Ted’s Bogus Journey isn’t your typical big-budget follow-up to a good-natured sleeper blockbuster hit about time-travelling high-school metalhead slackers. And it’s all the richer for it.

In following up 1989’s Excellent Adventure, writers Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon eschewed the obvious route of sending their heroes off for yet more time-travel shenanigans – instead plucking all manner of weirdness from their collective imaginations in sending...

Transformers: Dark of the Moon to Feature the Dinobots!
Peter Cullen, Shia LaBeouf, and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley in Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
And here you thought Transformers: Dark of the Moon was going to take a more serious approach to its storytelling this time out! New toy images from Hasbro's upcoming Transformers: Dark of the Moon action figure line have revealed that two, maybe more, of the Dinobots are going to be making an appearance in director Michael Bay's upcoming summer sequel. Pictured are Triceradon (who, we just found out from our good friend Danny DeVito, will be voiced by 'man of a thousand screams' Mike Patton; though this may be a joke, as Patton was rumored to be voicing a dump truck in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which wasn't true...Word is that there was such strong fan response to that fake rumor, Michael Bay is actually employing the Faith No More singer's dynamic vocals this time out...We'll believe it when we hear it), and Rav, the metal pterodactyl.

Music Review: Soundgarden – ‘Live On I-5′
Soundgarden

Live on I-5

CD | MP3

A&M Records

U.S. Release date: March 22, 2011

UK Release date: March 21, 2011

Soundgarden is a band almost impossible to neatly define. So diverse is the band’s sound that anything they try -- be it punk, grunge, rock, acoustic -- nothing sounds out of place. Like contemporaries Faith No More, they manage to mix all of these influences together while still possessing an identifiable sound. This keeps their audience guessing, not just from album to album, but from each track to the next.

On new live album, Live on I-5, Soundgarden keeps this excitement going. It was recorded at various U.S. and Canadian venues at the tail end of 1996, just a few months before the band’s eventual break up. Thanks to this, there is a definite sense of anger within the performances, which added to the band’s natural energy and power...

Mike Patton at an event for The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
Mike Patton Returns to 'The Darkness'
Mike Patton at an event for The Place Beyond the Pines (2012)
What's better than 2K Games bringing The Darkness, based off of the Top Cow comic book, out of the mothballs for another game?  Why, bringing back Faith No More frontman Mike Patton as the voice of the titular Darkness!  More after the break! According to a press release over at Joystiq, Mike Patton will be taking time off from his 7,000 or so musical projects (seriously, the man's discography boggles the mind) to reprise the role of The Darkness, the entity that inhabits the body of young mobster Jackie Estacado and gives him immense power. According to Patton, "It feels really good to be the bad guy, and The Darkness is as bad as it gets.  I've read through the script and Jackie is...

Faith No More: 20th Anniversary Of ‘Live At The Brixton Academy’
Faith No More

Live At The Brixton Academy

UK | U.S.

Recorded April 1990

Released February 4, 1991 (UK)

With the help of MTV and its heavy rotation of the video for "Epic," Faith No More rose to prominence in the late 1980s. The band’s third album, and first with its new lead singer Mike Patton, Real Thing was an instant classic and made heroes of its makers. Duly, the band took the album on tour into the early nineties and chose one show to record for a live album. February 4th marks the 20th anniversary of the Faith No More album Live At The Brixton Academy. Recorded at the famous venue in London, England, it is Faith No More’s only official live album. And what an album it is.

Lead singer Mike Patton is a brilliant performer. At first he seems as if he is not taking it seriously by...

Born Free (1966)
Master Composer John Barry Dead At 77
Born Free (1966)
Sad news this morning: five-time Oscar winning composer John Barry died yesterday in New York at the age of 77.

In addition to his many Academy honors — two in 1966 (song and score) for "Born Free" and then one apiece for "The Lion in Winter" (1968), "Out of Africa" (1985) and "Dances With Wolves" (1990) — Barry is notable for having scored 11 James Bond films, along with countless others: "Midnight Cowboy," "Walkabout," "The Day of the Locust," "Game of Death," "The Golden Child," "Howard the Duck," "Peggy Sue Got Married," "Chaplin," "Indecent Proposal"... you're getting the idea here, right?

Barry's work on Bond is by far his most recognizable. The iconic Bond theme was originally credited to composer Monty Norman, though some questions have been raised in recent years over how much of the work belongs to Barry. It is now commonly accepted that Norman's contribution laid out the basic notes, which Barry then fleshed out into a full orchestral piece.

The Strokes Land On Earth: Wake-Up Video
Of all the high profile rock reunions that went down in 2010 (including Soundgarden, Pavement, Faith No More and Guided By Voices), none of them was more low-key than the Strokes. Though they were once declared the saviors of American rock music, the group slouched back into existence after a four year hiatus to very little fanfare. It was somehow appropriate for the quintet, as they have always seemed to shrug off any sort of over-the-top buzz and get to the heart of the matter. While that particular character trait has probably prevented them from becoming a much bigger band, it has also kept them steady and focused on the music. It's probably also why people generally ignored the group's third (and at the moment final) album First Impressions of Earth, which was released on this day in 2006.

Thanks to a growing interest in other musical genres and the influence of...

Faith No More Had Final Concert in Chile
Reformed rockers Faith No More took their final bow in Santiago, Chile on Sunday night, December 5, playing their last show before splitting up. The group thrilled fans in summer 2009 when they re-teamed for a string of dates after an 11-year hiatus, and they even considered returning to the studio to make one last album.

But the musicians decided to bring their reunion to an end and split up after a final farewell show in Chile so they can all move on and focus on new projects. The band took to the stage at the Estadio Bicentenario de La Florida on Sunday and played a massive set, including three encores, before ending with a cover of The Manhattans' "Kiss and Say Goodbye".

Frontman Mike Patton threw himself into the audience at the end and crowd-surfed, before climbing back onto the stage and walking off.

Pulp Get A Head Start On The 2011 Rock Reunion Season
Though 2010 still has a handful of weeks left in it, it's never too soon to start contemplating what might be on your musical menu in 2011. In keeping with recent traditions that saw cult bands get back together to rave reviews and far more success than they ever had during their initial runs (we're looking fondly at you, Pavement and Faith No More), one of the best bands of the Britpop movement will play some old songs together again next year. Pulp, who were icons in their native U.K. but never quite had the same kind of crossover success in the United States the way Oasis and Blur did, will be getting back together for a handful of shows in the summer of 2011.

"Pulp have decided to get together and play some concerts next summer," a statement on the group's official Facebook page explains. "The shows will involve all the...

Exclusive: Ralph Ziman Talks Gangster's Paradise: Jerusalema
Director Ralph Ziman takes us behind-the-scenes of this amazing South African crime thriller

The amazing South African crime drama Gangster's Paradise: Jerusalema is finally coming to DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, September 28th. Directed by Ralph Ziman, this intense tale proves to be an unflinching look into the crime, corruption and the transgressions of those looking to survive in the most crime-infested district of Johannesburg.

Compared to classics such as Scarface and Goodfellas, the movie follows young Lucky Kunene (Rapulana Seiphemo) who quickly graduates from small smash and grabs and petty crimes to more aggressive heists, such as armed robbery and carjacking. Soon, Lucky realizes he needs a bigger score to fulfill his goals of making it big, and escaping from the slums, to a dream house by the sea. It's a provocative look at the fifteen-year dissolution of Apartheid, and it has resonated with audiences and critics across the globe.
