Bogieville Official Full-Length Trailer: "The highly anticipated southern-fried vampire road movie “Bogieville”, directed by acclaimed British filmmaker and actor Sean Cronin, releases today, June 3, 2025, in North America by Level 33 Entertainment and on June 13, 2025 in the UK via Trinity Creative Partnership, on VOD via Amazon, Apple TV and Fandango at Home, among other premium digital channels.

Written by screenwriter Henry P. Gravelle, “Bogieville” unfolds in a decaying American trailer park where a young couple, Ham and Jody, are enticed to stay by the unsettling caretaker, Crawford. Until Dawn (2025)
David F. Sandberg and Gary Dauberman Talk Playing In The Genre Sandbox With ‘Until Dawn’ [Exclusive]
Until Dawn (2025)
Taking a game like Until Dawn and making it into a film is a challenge, especially when the original game, written by Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick, was already so cinematic. So, director/producer David F. Sandberg and producer/writer Gary Dauberman, as well as co-writer Blair Butler, decided to take a radically different route: make each night a different subgenre of horror. The result? A smorgasbord of genre delights, each nastier than the next.

In the new film adaptation:

One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the night again...

“Starting Thistle and Thorn was a political statement”: Until Dawn Controversy Forces Former PlayStation Narrative Director to Fight Fire with Fire
Image
The Until Dawn movie released recently may not have been received in the most positive way, but it did at least bring Supermassive’s cult horror hit to a new audience. However, the decision to exclude the original game’s writers from the movie’s credits has not gone down well at all, leaving many creatives annoyed at Sony for failing to properly acknowledge the artistic minds responsible for creating the Until Dawn IP.

How Can You Not Credit the Creators of Until Dawn In a Movie Based on Until Dawn? The Until Dawn movie isn’t being received well by fans of the original game. Image credit: Sony

Despite the recent film adaptation being based on the IP that they created, the Until Dawn movie doesn’t feature any on-screen credit for Will Byles, Graham Reznick, or Larry Fessenden. This is pretty egregious, considering that these were the original...

‘Until Dawn’ Movie Leaves Out Game’s Writers in Credits
Image
The Until Dawn movie came out on April 25, but besides the mixed reviews, another problem has come up. A former Sony Interactive Entertainment (Sie) narrative director shared on LinkedIn that Sony did not give credit to the Until Dawn video game’s writers or developers in the movie’s credits.

Kim MacAskill, who used to work at Sony, spoke about it in a post. She said: “As a former Sony Interactive Entertainment and PlayStation Narrative Director who was firmly told that the IP I personally created would Never be credited to me as I was salaried I am struggling with the difference between Neil Druckmann’s favour and that of others in your company.”

MacAskill pointed out that while the movie’s director and writers were named, the original game creators were not. She said, “I’ve just left Until Dawn where the film director, writers etc. were all credited...

Why ‘Until Dawn’ Video Game Writers Aren’t Credited on the Movie
Image
When the credits roll on Until Dawn this weekend, hundreds of people who contributed to Hollywood’s latest video game movie will be acknowledged for their work, from director David F. Sandberg all the way down to the assistants and the caterer. But two notable names will not be among them: Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick, the duo who wrote the 2015 hit video game that launched the franchise.

While comic book writers and artists often complain about skimpy payments or lack of ample credit for the work that inspires movies, they generally are given a special thanks in the credits of those films. But as sources who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter note, that’s generally not true in the world of video game adaptations, where the company behind a game — not the game’s creators — are credited.

It’s something video game writers are now thinking about more and more,...

‘Until Dawn’ Review: The Interactive Survival Horror Video Game Becomes a Grab Bag of a Slasher Movie in Which Nothing’s at Stake
Image
As indicated by the recent announcement that there’s going to be a “John Wick 5,” death in the movies simply isn’t what it used to be. There’s no longer anything final about it; increasingly, it’s not anything at all. At the end of “John Wick 4,” John Wick didn’t just get killed — he seemed really dead, as in let’s-put-a-fork-in-the-franchise dead. But, of course, the moment you had that thought, and the word “franchise” entered your brain, you just knew it couldn’t be. It would leave too much money on the table. The awesome death of John Wick needed to be rendered null and void so that Keanu Reeves could come back.

“Until Dawn” is a gimcrack horror-movie hodpepodge that reflects the very same attitude towards death. (It doesn’t matter! Just push reset!) But the film doesn’t pull that cheap trick at the...

‘Until Dawn’ Review – Kitchen Sink Creature Feature Fails Its Source Material
Image
Condensing a roughly 8-hour immersive video game experience into a passive, under two-hour horror viewing experience is a daunting puzzle to crack, especially for a video game as beloved among horror fans as Until Dawn. It’s a game where your choices as the player and the ability to nail a quick time event directly affect who survives the onslaught of horror threats, both metaphysical and psychological, further complicating adaptation endeavors.

Director David F. Sandberg and screenwriters Gary Dauberman & Blair Butler realize what a fool’s errand it would be to try, at least as a straightforward adaptation, and instead take a kitchen sink approach with the Until Dawn movie

The core narrative thrust of Until Dawn calls the inciting event of the game to mind, in which one sister ventures into the dark wood to console her distraught sister, only for unspeakable horror to befall them both. In this case,...

Review: Until Dawn is an Unfamiliar Yet Freaky Video Game Adaptation
Image
An Until Dawn video game adaptation seemed… misguided upon announcement. Supermassive Games’ choose your own spooky adventure was, itself, a 10-hour cinematic experience. Simply replicating the events on Blackwood Mountain would be more of a remake versus an adaptation, which David F. Sandberg’s Until Dawn film is not. Writers Gary Dauberman and ex-G4 talent Blair Butler abandon the snowy lodge and butterfly effects for something completely different, begging the question, why is it even titled Until Dawn (*cough* IP familiarity *cough*)? It’s a strange experiment in video game adaptations that feels like it bizarrely leaves the source material behind.

The idea of missing siblings is still a motivating factor. Clover (Ella Rubin) is searching for her sister Melanie (Maia Mitchell), accompanied by a handful of tagalong friends. They’re on a morbid road trip tracking Melanie’s last known whereabouts, ending in an off-the-beaten-path old mining town.

Why Until Dawn's Record-Breaking Video Game Writers Aren't Credited For The Movie
Image
Any veteran of the film and television industry is well aware that getting credit for one's work can be a long, confusing, and frustratingly bizarre process. While some credits are fairly cut-and-dried — it's not too difficult for actors to be recognized for their appearances, since they can be clearly seen — the behind-the-scenes folks involved in making film and television can potentially be rendered invisible, as far as official credits go. When it comes to writers attempting to gain credit for their work, they have it the hardest of anyone. That process of arbitration for writing credit, particularly when the rules of the Writers Guild of America (WGA) are involved, can be so protracted and mysterious that, in some cases, the people who end up with the final credit can be debated.

This game of musical chairs with regards to credit has only extended to other forms of media as the...

Rabbit Trap Review: A Haunting Dive into Folklore and Trauma
Dev Patel in Rabbit Trap (2025)
Bryn Chainey’s Rabbit Trap explores 1976, a time of social transformation, where Darcy (Dev Patel) and Daphne (Rosy McEwen) seek refuge in a secluded Welsh farmhouse, becoming entangled with local myths and their internal conflicts. The Welsh landscape—misted moors and silent woodlands—emerges as a living entity, pregnant with untold stories and oppressive quiet.

This narrative transcends a simple rural retreat, creating a charged environment where human experiences intersect with elemental energies. The year’s economic tension and cultural shifts echo the characters’ struggle to connect with primal experiences.

Darcy’s sound recordings and Daphne’s experimental music reveal their attempts to understand surrounding wilderness, yet ultimately highlight their growing disconnection. The deteriorating farmhouse speaks to their fractured relationship, serving as a physical manifestation of emotional disintegration.

‘Rabbit Trap’ Review: Dev Patel Records Spirits In A Sound Design Masterwork [Sundance]
Image
Park City – Often, but not always, you need to tip your cap to a filmmaker willing to push boundaries with their debut feature film. Frankly, as a director, you never know if you’re gonna get that chance (or budget) again. Taking risks is a roll of the dice. You don’t always win. Such is the case with writer and director Bryn Chainey, who, after almost 20 years of making short films, collaborates with sound designer Graham Reznick and composer Lucrecia Dalt for “Rabbit Trap,” a fantastical thriller that is, first and foremost, a cinematic audio masterwork.

‘Rabbit Trap’ Review: Dev Patel Tampers With Ancient Magic In Bryn Chainey’s Asmr Folk Horror — Sundance Film Festival
Image
In British writer-director Bryn Chaney’s feature debut, he uses Celtic folklore and the intimacy of sound to unpack a darkness that some might struggle to put in words.

Set in 1973, Rabbit Trap stars Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen as Darcy and Daphne, an influential musical couple from London who retreats to an isolated cabin in the Welsh countryside to finish their next album. But when Darcy records a sound not meant for human ears, he accidentally conjures ancient mystical beings from the forest.

Best viewed in Dolby, the film utilizes hypnotic sounds in every scene, largely through the field recordings made by Darcy in the surrounding woods. In addition to sounds of dripping water, clanging metal and crunching grass, Darcy demonstrates how the medium is sacred as he explains that “sound is a ghost … and your body is the house it haunts.”

After recording strange sounds in the forest,...

‘Rabbit Trap’ Review: Ineffectual Welsh Folk Horror Drops Dev Patel and Rosy McEwen Into Ancient Woodland Hokum
Image
A tradition stretching back to genre pioneers like 1973’s pagan freakout The Wicker Man, British folk horror can be bonkers (Alex Garland’s Men), hypnotically abstract (Mark Jenkin’s Enys Men) or disorienting (Ben Wheatley’s In the Earth). What it ideally shouldn’t be is boring. Bryn Chainey’s Rabbit Trap has a creepy sense of dread, striking images of invasive nature and an intriguing baseline about the otherworldly properties of sound, making it a somewhat promising debut feature. “With your eyes you enter the world, with your ears the world enters you,” says one of the characters. Which would mean something if the muddled story were coherent enough to achieve any kind of psychological penetration.

The lesson here might be read as: Don’t go poking around ancient woodlands with recording devices, and whatever you do, don’t go mixing what you find into grating avant-garde “music” and...

Until Dawn Trailer Brings The Wild And Gory Horror Video Game To The Big Screen
Image
For those of you old enough to remember the 1990s, there was a trend in PC gaming during that decade which saw the rise of what was dubbed the "interactive movie." It was a concept that had been brewing since at least the days of producer William Castle and "Mr. Sardonicus," if not earlier but where Hollywood had tried and failed to put such an idea into movie theaters (see: the 1995 experiment "Mr. Payback"), the gaming industry made much better headway into combining the rich narrative and emotional experience of cinema with the personalization and immediacy of video games. Still, the format was inelegant; even watershed games like "Phantasmagoria" and "Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger" featured cutscenes with professional actors in-between moments of non-cinematic gameplay. In other words, the best "interactive movie" games were still just games with bits of movies interspersed throughout.

For my money, the dream...

Enjoy the Monster: Larry Fessenden on the Art of Horror
Image
Blackout.I had saved my question about Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) until the last possible minute. Larry Fessenden, a disarmingly amiable man with an edge to his self-deprecating humor I recognized only too well, has a new werewolf movie out. If you know Larry’s movies—No Telling (1991), Habit (1995), Wendigo (2001), The Last Winter (2006), Beneath (2013), Depraved (2019), and now Blackout (2023)—you know it’s never just a matter of a monster. As we dug into its story of a lycanthropic curse doubling as a metaphor for an artist’s alcoholism and a town’s despair at a recent solar eclipse, I could see Larry the filmmaker turn into Larry the eager, devoted student and fan under the half-light of the black sun.Fessenden appears in the final minutes of Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon (2023), like a harbinger of the future’s unforgiving gaze, as an actor on the mid-century...

Sandberg and Dauberman have multiple credits in the horror genre, including previously collaborating on 2017's Annabelle: Creation.

Until Dawn is being adapted into a movie. The slasher-themed project was written by filmmakers Larry Fessenden (Habit) and Graham Reznick (Deadwax) and allows the players' choices to determine whether each character lives or dies. The critical and commercial success of the game led to the release of the 2016 VR spinoff Until Dawn: Rush of Blood, the 2018 prequel The Inpatient, and the 2022 follow-up The Quarry.

Scott’s Favorites of 2018
As we pass another marker on our way to subterranean forevers and/or meeting our makers (my money’s on Xenu), let’s lay on the brakes for a bit and count our horror blessings, shall we? 2018 was another great year, from the page to the screen and everything in between. Here are some of my favorite things that inundated my ears and eyeholes throughout the year:

Favorite Books

Chasing around two grandkids put a major cramp on my reading this year, unless I can include The Gingerbread Man on my list. However, I did squeeze in one earlier this year, and made a mad dash to finish another as it was a Christmas gift and I kind of figured it would make my list. P.S. I did read other books this year, but they were older and aged, much like myself.

Exclusive: Graham Reznick talks Deadwax, Shudder’s spine tingling new original horror series
Shudder’s new original series Deadwax is so darn good that parent network AMC might just steal it from them. Written and directed by Graham Reznick, starring Hannah Gross (Mindhunter), Evan Gamble (Hap and Leonard), Chester Rushing (Stranger Things) and Ted Raimi (Ash vs. Evil Dead), and after four episodes watched for review ahead of our interview with Reznick, Deadwax needs to be on your radar. Someone at AMC should grab this one to spool out into a longer format TV drama, as they enjoyed critically acclaimed success with The Terror this past summer. For those who might be unaware, Shudder […]

Bushwick and a Modern Fiery Fairy Tale: A Film Review
Tagline: "The New Civil War Has Begun." Directors: Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott. Writers: Nick Damici and Graham Reznick Cast: Dave Bautista, Brittany Snow and Angelic Zambrana. Bushwick is an action thriller, which had its premiere at the Sundance Film Festival. Starring former pro-wrestler Dave Bautista and Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect, 2012), the film tries to answer the question: what if Texas seceded from the United States? Naturally, they would attack Bushwick! a suburb of Brooklyn. Writers Nick Damici (Stakeland II) and Graham Reznick have offered a modern retelling of the Grimm Brothers' Little Red Riding Hood, as Lucy (Snow) attempts to get to Granny's house. The path is littered with gunfire as the big bad wolf gets in the way. As well, much of the film is shot via long takes, with a steadicam. This shooting technique puts the viewer right in close with the characters. Meanwhile, there is a...

Bushwick movie review: don’t mess with Brooklyn
MaryAnn’s quick take… There’s fierce tension in this breathless urban survival thriller as anarchy comes to New York streets. Terrific, innovative low-budget action filmmaking. I’m “biast” (pro): nothing

I’m “biast” (con): nothing

(what is this about? see my critic’s minifesto)

College student Lucy (Brittany Snow: Pitch Perfect 2) comes up out of the New York City subway to find that all hell has broken loose: there’s gunfire and explosions everywhere, fires burning, mysterious troopers — terrorists? — in black rounding up residents (or killing them), no signs of NYPD or any other legitimate authorities. Terrified, baffled, and on the verge of becoming a victim of the sudden lawlessness, Lucy teams up with reluctant veteran Stupe (Dave Bautista: Blade Runner 2049) as they both attempt to get to safety… if such a place exists. The less you know about Bushwick (named for Lucy and Stupe’s working-class...

‘Bushwick’ Review
Review by Matthew Turner

Stars: Brittany Snow, Dave Bautista, Angelic Zambrana, Jeremie Harris, Myra Lucretia Taylor, Alex Breaux, Arturo Castro | Written by Nick Damici, Graham Reznick | Directed by Cary Murnion, Jonathan Milott

Directed by Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott (Cooties), this pacey U.S. invasion thriller picks up points for its premise, performances and photography, but the script passes up the chance for some political commentary.

The film’s extremely strong opening has college student Lucy (Brittany Snow) getting off the subway in Bushwick, New York and suddenly finding herself in the middle of a war zone, with armed militia on the streets. Dodging the hails of gunfire, Lucy is rescued by hulking ex-Marine Stupe (Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Dave Bautista), who agrees to help her make it to her grandmother’s house, a few blocks away. However, they soon discover that the situation is worse than they thought...

Bushwick Review
In Bushwick, New York City resembles a militaristic wasteland. We’re to believe Texas has formed a Southern pact and is leading a new Civil War in the name of secession. It’s a scary reality that brings to light recent current events driven by unjust animosity. A made-up Brooklyn invasion and actual Dallas sniper shooting are horrifyingly similar topics, so you’d think Nick Damici and Graham Reznick’s script would be fueled with warnings, or anger, or revelations. You’d think there’d be something more to raging fires and black-suited militants. You would think – but that’s not the case. Crumbling skylines and Red-Dawn-meets-Purge vibes can only get you so far.

Events kickstart when Lucy (Brittany Snow) arrives in Bushwick with her presumed boyfriend (Arturo Castro). As they walk the subway platform, all train usage is suspended; their station oddly empty. Mr. Boyfriend goes above ground to take a peek,...

Fantasia 2017: ‘Bushwick’ Preview
Hot off their classroom-zombie opus Cooties, directors Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott conceived Bushwick and turned scripting duties over to a couple of New York indie-filmmaking fixtures: Nick Damici (Stake Land) and Graham Reznick. Their combined forces resulted in a thriller that almost never stops moving, with Brittany Snow ably conveying Lucy’s discovery of her survival instinct and Dave Bautista diverges from his iconic wisecracking Drax to a more taciturn, surprisingly affecting but still kick-ass hero.

A trip to Grandma’s place has never been as dangerous as it turns out to be for Lucy (Brittany Snow), who’s bringing her new boyfriend to meet the family in her old neighbourhood of Bushwick, Brooklyn. The couple is suddenly, violently separated as helicopter-borne, machine-gun-wielding attackers overrun the streets, shooting anyone they see. Lucy’s life is saved by Stupe (Dave Bautista), a former soldier who helps her attempt to find...

E3 2017: Until Dawn Prequel The Inpatient Announced, Watch the First Trailer for the PlayStation Vr Game
"I'm going to ask you again. Do you remember me?" You may have survived the murders on Blackwood Mountain in the 2015 video game Until Dawn, but soon you can return to that location for a new adventure set sixty years before the events of the slasher video game in The Inpatient, a new PlayStation Vr game that is teased in its first trailer from Supermassive Games.

On the official PlayStation blog, Nik Bowen, one of the Game Directors at Supermassive Games, shared some insights into what gamers can expect from The Inpatient:

"The Inpatient is a horror game with psychological elements. It places you in the role of a patient with amnesia and is set in the Blackwood Sanatorium, over 60 years prior to the award-winning Until Dawn.

Anyone familiar with Until Dawn will recognize the imposing sanatorium but this time you’ll see everything as it was during its 1950s heyday.

AMC's horror streaming service Shudder has entered the original content game with a series of six planned "Shudder Originals", the first of which is Rodney Ascher's (Room 237) latest, Primal Screen. In addition to Primal Screen, Shudder is developing the following projects: Deadwax - A short form series about the hunt for a mysterious record that drives its owners mad... and kills anyone who dares to play it. From Graham Reznick, co-writer of Until...

Bushwick: Check Out Three Teaser Posters For The Urban Invasion Thriller
Bushwick, an urban invasion thriller directed by Cooties' Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott, played tonight at Cannes in the Directors' Fortnight Features program. Yesterday, Collider debuted three new teaser posters, running with the colors of American patriotism. You will find them below, each a slight variant from the other apart from the color scheme.    Bushwick stars Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy), Brittany Snow (Pitch Perfect), Angelic Zambrana (Precious), and Jeremie Harris ("Legion"). The chilling and poignant tale was written by Nick Damici and Graham Reznick; so long ago they come across as damned prophets now that Bushwick is coming to U.S. cinemas, VOD and Digital HD on August 27th.   When Lucy (Brittany Snow) steps off the subway, she walks into an utter bloodbath...

Sundance 2017 Review Round-Up: Bushwick, Bitch, and A Ghost Story
While at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, I had the opportunity to check out a few films that were just a bit outside the horror realm, including Cary Murnion and Jonathan Milott’s sociopolitical actioner Bushwick, Marianna Palka’s bleak comedy Bitch, and David Lowery’s unforgettable A Ghost Story, and you can read my reviews for these on-the-fringe-of-horror titles right here in one place.

Bushwick: You couldn’t ask for a bigger departure from Milott and Murnion’s previous film, Cooties, than their most recent effort, Bushwick. Their frantically-paced actioner stars Dave Bautista and Brittany Snow as two residents of the New York borough who must fend off an invasion after several red states decide to declare a new civil war on the rest of the country. By giving us very little information on just what is happening throughout Bushwick, co-writers Nick Damici and Graham Reznick keep viewers firmly...
