ESPN is digging into its past in a bid to spotlight its future.
The Disney-backed sports giant will, starting Thursday evening during ABC’s broadcast of the first game in the NBA Finals, give fans both a taste of its earliest days as well as a hint of what’s to come. An ESPN promo will feature footage of some of the first minutes shown on the cable network when it debuted in 1979. By the vignette’s end, however, ESPN will be highlighting its ability to interact with sports fans via mobile devices, and it will tout its ubiquity with game die-hards using a new catchphrase: “Sports Forever.”

All this comes as ESPN readies the kickoff of a new $29.99 per month streaming service that aims to give subscribers access to everything it offers on a single platform. The new service — dubbed simply ESPN,...

The NFL released its full 2025-2026 football schedule for all 32 teams this week, and as is tradition, each of the teams released lighthearted videos to celebrate.
This year, the New York Giants did a Love Island parody while the Atlanta Falcons did a fun Mario Kart homage. Other videos included the Baltimore Ravens’ Severance-themed video and the Kansas City Chiefs’ Cash Cab remake.
The Indianapolis Colts created a Minecraft world for their schedule release video, but shortly after it went live, fans noticed it was taken down.
Now, the Colts have released a statement explaining why.

The Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich‘s son, Jax Ulbrich, 21, was part of a prank call that went viral during the 2025 NFL Draft.
Jax was allegedly part of a group that prank called quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders, telling him he would be drafted to the New Orleans Saints.
Jax allegedly got Shedeur‘s phone number from his dad’s iPad.
Many are calling for the NFL to take disciplinary action in some way, such as docking a draft pick, as the prank was viewed as cruel due to Shedeur dropping in the draft. He did not end up being selected until the fifth round to the Cleveland Browns.

There’s a lot of noise about the Kansas City Chiefs and the NFL being rigged.
If you don’t know, there have been several games this year – and in past years – where the team seem to get lots of penalties and calls in their favor. The issue was magnified during the 2025 playoffs, when Patrick Mahomes received a roughing the passer call after being questionably tackled during their game against the Texans, plus when Josh Allen‘s crucial fourth down “tush push” was called not successful.
While some believe the game is totally rigged, some believe that if there’s a close call in a game, the refs will default and give the advantage to the Chiefs.

Former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has a new home in the NFL with the Minnesota Vikings.
Multiple media reports say Jones became a free agent on Monday after parting ways with the Giants following a rough season.
Jones is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Vikings for the remainder of this season with a payout of $375,000, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The football star will start in the practice squad, which would allow him to sing with another team if a starting Qb position opens up.
The Vikings only had one quarterback under contract for the 2025 season but JJ McCarthy suffered a season-ending injury during a preseason game. Sam Darnold was bumped to starting Qb and has led the team to a 9-2 season.
Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell was asked about Jones on Monday and remained coy about it saying, “I will say, tons of respect...

The reveal left Clark speechless.

The idea of Travis Kelce retiring from the NFL might be unthinkable to Kansas City Chiefs fans.
But the fact is, the man is 34; he plays a physically demanding position, and — oh, and as you might have heard, he’s got a lot on his plate these days.
Yes, Travis is dating Taylor Swift, and their relationship receives far more attention than the tight end’s performance on the field.
Fans have slammed Taylor as a distraction to the team, which is obviously ridiculous.
But an argument could be made that Travis is just nearing the end of his time on the field.
Could Travis be headed to retirement? Is he ready to embrace life after football?

Are Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift secretly engaged?
That’s what famed NFL reporter Adam Schefter seemed to tease during a recent episode of NFL Live.
ESPN Anchor Teases Travis Kelce May Have Bought An Engagement Ring
The Tayvis rumor mill went into overdrive when NFL Live host Laura Rutledge and Adam had a fun debate about the possibility Travis may have already gone ring shopping live on air.
As Laura introduced a segment about the Kansas City Chief’s star tight end’s latest business move, she implied that there had not been a ring purchase.
“Travis Kelce made a big purchase recently,” she said.
Taylor kissed Travis on the cheek in one of the first Pda photos of the couple posted by his teammate’s girlfriend, Chariah Gordon, on Instagram.
“No, not an engagement ring, but it was Swift-adjacent. The Chiefs tight end [purchased] a racehorse named — wait for it — Swift Delivery.

Taylor Swift might already call Travis Kelce her lover, but has fiancée been added to that list? Sports reporter Adam Schefter has alluded that an engagement announcement might be on the horizon. Or he at least joked about it in response to ESPN’s NFL Live host Laura Rutledge’s story about Kelce’s new racehorse. Rutledge started the clip by saying Kelce “made a big purchase recently,” to which she jokingly added, “No, not an engagement ring.” This kicked off the topic of Kelce’s newest addition, a racehorse named Swift Delivery. This revelation was quickly followed by Schefter asked, “How do you know that Travis Kelce didn’t buy an engagement ring?” The other anchors riffed off that almost immediately by asking, “Are you going to break some big news here?” Watch the full clip below. “How do you that know Travis Kelce didn’t buy an engagement ring?...

After suing ESPN for allegedly suspending her in retaliation for comments she made on a podcast regarding the Covid-19 vaccine mandate, former ESPN host Sage Steele has filed a lawsuit against CAA and her agents over their handling of the standoff.
Steele, in a lawsuit filed Tuesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, accuses the agency of breach of fiduciary duty for failing to properly advocate for her. She points to statements from her agent Matthew Kramer, CAA’s co-head of sports media, in which he neglected to demand that Steele not be required to apologize for criticizing Disney’s vaccination policy and lied to the ex-espn anchor about having the “head of CAA legal” review her contract regarding the mandate, instead sending the document to a junior attorney.

Chris Mortensen, an award-winning veteran reporter for ESPN, died Sunday morning, the network announced. He was 72 and no cause was given, but he had been battling cancer during his life.

Sports Illustrated‘s stunning mass layoffs Friday, which cast doubt on the future of the 70-year-old media stalwart, have prompted waves of emotional reaction across social media.
The Arena Group told the entire staff their jobs were being eliminated after Authentic Brands Group, which licenses the Si name, suspended that license to publish due to a missed payment of about $3.75 million.
It isn’t yet clear what the ultimate fate of Si will be, but it has been thrown into uncertainty. Sports Illustrated Union and The NewsGuild of New York issued a statement vowing to fight for the workers. “We have fought together as a union to maintain the standard of this storied publication that we love, and to make sure our workers are treated fairly for the value they bring to this company. It is a fight we will continue,” Mitch Goldich, NFL editor and unit chair at The NewsGuild of New York said.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is confirming a rumor about his game day superstition…he has worn the same pair of red underwear every game of his career.

One NFL insider voice that ESPN viewers will not be listening to as the new season kicks off is Chris Mortensen as the football analyst has announced his retirement from the network.
Mortensen had quietly quit the sports network earlier this year and ahead of the start of the NFL season has made it public to all of his fans.
“Excited about another season but it’s time to reveal after my 33rd NFL draft in April, I made a decision to step away from ESPN and focus on my health, family and faith,” he shared on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
Luckily for fans who have been following his career for 33 years, he’s still going to be giving his hot takes on the NFL.
“The gratitude and humility is overwhelming. It’s not a classic retirement. I’ll still be here talking ball. It’s just time.

The longtime ESPN anchor will become the new host of Monday Night Countdown, the network’s popular NFL pregame show. He replaces Suzy Kolber, who had hosted the program since 2015 but was let go last month in a wave of layoffs.
Pundits are speculating that the move puts Van Pelt in line to host the Super Bowl when and if the network and corporate cousin ABC land it.
Per ESPN, Van Pelt will keep his day – er – night job.

Damar Hamlin got to give back to his Buffalo Bills family in a big way at the 2023 Espy Awards on Sunday night, and got emotional as he reflected on the fateful day when he almost lost his life.
The 25-year-old athlete presented the team’s training staff with this year’s Pat Tillman Award for Service in honor of their part in providing life-saving medical care to him during his near-fatal incident on the field during a game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January.
Hamlin came out on the stage and introduced a video, which he narrated, recalling how his life was saved by the training staff and how they became his heroes.
“Thanks to their training, their poise and their commitment to serve others, the Bills training staff kept me alive,” Hamlin explained in the video. “I didn’t wake up that morning in January thinking that I would...

Tears streamed down the face of Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin at the ESPYs Wednesday as he presented an award to the members of the team’s training staff who saved his life in January.
Hamlin took the stage during ABC’s broadcast of the ceremony after a video introducing the training staff, who received the Pat Tillman Award for Service. As he stepped to the microphone, already visibly moved and wiping his face, the crowd gave him a standing ovation. Hamlin bowed his head and cried, seemingly overcome. The New York Jets and their high-profile new quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, will be the focus of this year’s installment of HBO’s long-running Hard Knocks, according to multiple media reports.
The show, which documents a month of training camp action both on and off the field in the runup to the start of the regular season in September, last centered on the Jets in 2010. Coincidentally (or not), that was the last year the team made the playoffs, the longest active drought of any NFL club. Optimism about the Jets has surged since the offseason signing of Rodgers, a four-time Mvp and Super Bowl champion during 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers in recent weeks has been a visible presence around New York City, attending last month’s Tony Awards as well as Knicks and Rangers playoff games.

Jdrf, the leading global type 1 diabetes (T1D) research and advocacy organization, is thrilled to announce the 2023 Jdrf Children’s Congress, a three-day Washington D.C event that will bring children living with T1D face-to-face with lawmakers and top decision-makers.
Youth delegates from across the country, as well as Jdrf’s five international affiliates, will be joined by celebrity advocates to call on congress to renew the Special Diabetes Program (Sdp) and advocate for policies to ensure insulin is available at an affordable and predictable price.
The Sdp has accelerated the pace of T1D research through a long-term investment of funding at the National Institutes of Health. The program has led to significant scientific breakthroughs, including Tzield, the first disease-modifying treatment for T1D, which can delay the onset of the disease by over two years. Without Congressional action, the Sdp will expire at the end of September.

Aaron Rodgers’ weekly slot on Pat McAfee’s YouTube show is often a newsmaking draw, but Wednesday’s edition reached a whole new level as the quarterback confirmed his “intention” to play for the New York Jets.
The daily show drew just shy of 500,000 concurrent live viewers today, an audience several times the size of that for ESPN or other cable TV networks on a typical weekday. During the NFL’s free agency period, the destiny of Rodgers has been a major storyline as the 39-year-old kept the sports world and New York City in suspense for weeks about whether he would head to New York, stay with the Green Bay Packers, or just retire. Some have compared Wednesday’s silence-breaking interview with LeBron James’ widely hyped revelation in 2010 that he would “take his talents to South Beach” and play with the Miami Heat, a move famously packaged for TV as The Decision.

Buffalo Bills’ defensive back Damar Hamlin had to be taken off the field on a stretcher on Monday in a frightening incident that lead to the game against the Cincinnati Bengals being suspended until further notice.
During the first quarter of Monday’s match-up, Hamlin tackled Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins, and both men appeared to be uninjured following the tackle. However, shortly after, Damar appeared to stumble and collapse on the field.
Medical personnel rushed out onto the field with a stretcher to get Hamlin out of the stadium to receive medical treatment. An ambulance was driven onto the field to attend to Hamlin, and medics were reportedly forced to give the 24-year-old athlete CPR.
He was then placed on a stretcher, given oxygen and taken to the hospital via ambulance.
Players from both teams appeared to be deeply shaken, with many on the Bills moved to tears by the frightening incident.
