The Challenge will be back for its third season within a year very soon
Image
MTV has been spoiling fans of The Challenge in the past year. Not only was the super-sized 40th season celebration one of the most memorable challenges, but Battle of the Eras was then closely followed by the first season of The Challenge: All Stars to air on MTV. Both seasons were some of the most dramatic and entertaining of the franchise, but we're still just getting started.

After The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras premiered in August 2024 and concluded in January 2025, The Challenge All Stars: Rivals premiered one week after the season 40 finale and ran through April. There's been a quiet drought ever since, but that drought will soon end with the third season of the franchise to premiere within the span of one year. The Challenge season 41 is on its way!

MTV’s ‘The Challenge’ Season 41 Gets Premiere Date; Full Cast Revealed
Image
MTV has set Wednesday, July 30 for the Season 41 premiere of its long-running reality competition series The Challenge, themed Vets and New Threats, which will see 16 vets competing against 16 rookies. The upcoming season will roll out globally across MTV’s international networks in over 165 countries in the coming months.

Per MTV, “this season, fresh faces and new threats have entered the arena with one goal: upend the old order and take it all. The Vets, driven by legacy and pride, will need to adapt fast. Their established hierarchy is crumbling, and leaning on past alliances, and experience is no longer reliable—it’s about navigating the ever-shifting landscape of alliances, betrayals, and unknown threats. To win, Veterans and New Threats will be forced to work together, unless they’re forced to turn on each other. Nothing is guaranteed.”

Some of the vets competing include Aneesa Ferreira, Leroy Garrett, and Ct Tamburello.

The Challenge’s Devin Walker addresses speculation that Season 40 was rigged
Derrick Kosinski in The Challenge (1998)
Following The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, some fans may have thought that production rigged aspects of the show to help specific castmates.

One thing fans and castmates called out included an elimination event involving Horacio Gutierrez and Derrick Kosinski.

In addition, Jordan Wiseley and fans pointed out a significant daily challenge mistake involving Jenny West, Cara Maria Sorbello, and Tori Deal.

Devin Walker was there for some of the season, but castmate Kyland Young eliminated him in Episode 9.

Devin appeared in All Stars Rivals from there, teaming with Leroy Garrett based on previous game moves.

That season didn’t go well either, as the duo lost to the formidable pair of Adam Larson and Steve Meinke. Soon after MTV aired his elimination, Devin spoke about those “rigged” claims.

The Challenge winner Jenny West says she ‘still deserved to win’ after Season 40 controversy
Rachel Robinson
Jenny West was one of three winners of MTV’s The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, but some fans weren’t happy she even reached the final.

The Total Madness winner returned after several years away from the competition series and performed impressively in her second-straight final.

Due to a Karma Vote twist, which many fans disagreed with, she finished in a tie for first place with her friend and ally, Rachel Robinson.

However, she also won several daily challenges to gain safety from eliminations or power in the game.

One of those daily challenges caused controversy, as Jordan Wiseley and fans pointed out that she hadn’t finished her puzzle correctly after MTV aired Episode 17.

Despite that, host Tj Lavin announced her as the winner. It meant she was safe from consideration for elimination. It also gave Jenny the power to choose who faced the daily challenge loser, Tori Deal,...

The Challenge’s Jordan Wiseley calls out possible mistake with Season 40 daily challenge winner
Image
Jordan Wiseley seemingly spotted a mistake with one of his castmate’s puzzles during The Challenge: Battle of the Eras.

In the recently-aired Episode 17, viewers watched a frantic daily challenge, with everyone trying to win ahead of the upcoming final.

However, it was crucial for the women, as Cara Maria Sorbello, Jenny West, and Rachel Robinson were targets facing the last women’s elimination. Tori Deal and Michele Fitzgerald also wanted to perform well.

The first-place woman for the event was safe from elimination and got to choose who would go into elimination.

The last-place woman would automatically go into the elimination event at The Arena.

The Challenge’s Zach Nichols suggests Derek Chavez used ‘mental game’ on Cory Wharton before elimination
Image
Former The Challenge winner Zach Nichols knows that MTV’s competition series isn’t just a game that’s won physically but also mentally.

He previously won with several of his The Real World castmates on Battle of the Seasons in 2012 and returned to the final several more times after.

While he’s not in the epic Battle of the Eras season, many of his former castmates are, including Cory Wharton and Derek Chavez.

Cory and Derek faced off in the Episode 16 elimination after previous elimination winner Jenny West selected them among her three targets.

The event wasn’t a head-to-head physical competition, so fortune was on Derek’s side. Instead, the objective was to be the first to carry cinder blocks to a platform in the sand and correctly assemble the puzzle pictured on the blocks.

Using a smart strategy for the event, Derek managed to oust the multi-time finalist Cory from the game,...

The Challenge’s Rachel Robinson slammed ‘hypocritical’ castmate Devin Walker for post-reunion remarks
Rachel Robinson
The Challenge: Battle of the Eras introduced the old school to the new school with its 40 cast members grouped into four teams of 10. The OGs of the show were part of Era 1.

That team included former show winners Rachel Robinson, Derrick Kosinski, Chris “Ct” Tamburello, Mark Long, and Darrell Taylor.

Meanwhile, Era 2 featured seven-time champion Johnny Bananas, while Era 3 featured Ride or Dies winner Devin Walker. Devin began a showmance with Era 4’s Michele Fitzgerald.

However, that showmance created conflict amongst castmates when Bananas warned Michele that Devin might try to use her as part of his game strategy.

Ultimately, some of Bananas’ allies in the game, including Rachel, became involved in his feud with Michele and Devin.

That included Rachel, who said she and Devin ended things on an amicable note at the Season 40 reunion until Devin turned around and made additional comments about her.

Josh Martinez reveals his brutal injury on The Challenge Season 40 that ‘wasn’t shown’
Josh Martinez in Big Brother (2000)
An early, unaired injury hindered Josh Martinez’s ability to compete during The Challenge: Battle of the Eras.

The former Big Brother winner reached Episode 14 of MTV’s Season 40, outlasting multi-time winners that included Chris “Ct” Tamburello, Derrick Kosinski, and Darrell Taylor.

The individuals representing Era 1 went out early as the other teams worked against them and sent them into eliminations.

Meanwhile, Josh played an impressive social game. Even with the Vacation Alliance’s issues, Josh had numerous allies throughout The Challenge house, who protected him from entering elimination events.

However, they couldn’t protect him in the recent episode. He performed poorly in the daily challenge and earned an automatic entry to The Arena due to his last-place finish.

That resulted in an unlucky matchup against his friend Cory Wharton in a game that favored Cory, and Josh had diminished chances to win due to the injury he recently revealed.

The feud between The Challenge castmates Laurel Stucky and Nurys Mateo continues as they fire away at one another online.

Most recently, Laurel unleashed more remarks about her castmates, Nurys and Nurys’s current boyfriend, Horacio Gutierrez.

Viewers saw Laurel and Horacio in a showmance during Season 38, also known as Ride or Dies.

It ended early during the season after Horacio informed Laurel he had someone else he was interested in outside of the show. They remained amicable afterward, though.

Nurys was their castmate that season but was preoccupied with several other showmances, including an early love triangle involving Love Island’s Johnny Middlebrooks and, later, a showmance with Jordan Wiseley.

Fast-forward to Season 40, when Nurys and Horacio joined the 40-person cast all coupled up after their showmance in Battle For a New Champion got serious away from the show.

Both were relatively early eliminations as part of the Era 4 team.

Laurel Stucky in The Challenge (1998)
The Challenge: Battle of the Eras has featured quite a bit of drama involving various cast members, with Laurel Stucky engaged in several arguments with her castmates.

A heated altercation occurred between her and Cara Maria Sorbello, with production only presenting parts of the footage in the final episode.

Laurel also had a brief conversation or argument with Michele Fitzgerald, during which Michele confronted Laurel about why she didn’t want to be her friend.

Cara was nearby during that situation and offered her friendship to Michele, seeming to irritate Laurel a bit.

In a recent interview, Season 40 showmance stars Theo Campbell and Olivia Kaiser spoke about those situations.

That included Theo giving his side of how he felt things went between Laurel and Cara in their argument and spilling some tea about Michele and Laurel.

The Challenge’s Johnny Bananas reveals new alliance ‘is born’ after Vacation Alliance gets dismantled
Image
On The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, multiple cast members attempting to win didn’t want the infamous Vacation Alliance to control the game again.

Opponents fired some serious shots at the group on the recent episode and they took out two of the alliance members.

Viewers saw Rachel Robinson win the daily challenge as the only remaining member of her Era 1 team.

Since Devin Walker and Tori Deal were targets on the losing team, they automatically had to go into the elimination event.

That set up a perfect opportunity for Rachel and others to take a shot at the Vacation Alliance. Rachel selected Era 4’s Kaycee Clark and Kyland Young against the Era 3 targets.

It paid off in the end, as Kyland defeated Devin and Tori defeated Kaycee, weakening the alliance as the game continued.

Devin Walker (‘The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras’) exit interview: Kyland is ‘overrated’ and Bananas stirred up drama out of ‘jealousy’
Image
The Vacation Alliance took a crushing blow on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Challenge 40: Battle of the Eras.” Era 3’s Devin Walker and Era 4’s Kaycee Clark were both sent packing courtesy of Kyland Young and Tori Deal, respectively, following the “Cable Connection Showdown.” Watch Devin’s exit interview with Gold Derby above.

Era 1’s Rachel Robinson won this week’s daily challenge, giving her the sole power to decide who would face off against Devin and Tori in the elimination arena. After weighing her options carefully, Rachel couldn’t turn down the chance to get some of this season’s biggest threats out of the game. “I think Rachel made the right move,” Devin admits. “I think it was more personal for her than game-related. Sometimes the moves sync up and what’s best for your game is also best for your personal vendettas. I didn’t know this,...

Derrick Kosinski in The Challenge (1998)
The Challenge star Derrick Kosinski shared more details about his brutal Season 40 injury and elimination battle against his castmate.

Viewers saw Derrick screaming in pain during a daily challenge after landing badly in the mud.

The result was an injury that hobbled him, but he kept going because Era 1 had already lost many of its team members.

Unfortunately, his time came in Episode 8, when he was on the losing team for the daily challenge and went into an elimination event against Era 3’s Cory Wharton.

Derrick didn’t back out due to his injury and still attempted to give it a serious effort, even if it meant hopping around on one leg.

However, the multi-time champion believes he still would’ve gone home even if he had defeated Cory in their blindfolded boxing competition.

Fresh Meat star Ryan Kehoe managed to win an early elimination in The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, which he was forced to compete in due to finishing last place for the men on his team.

However, he avoided subsequent eliminations during Season 40 as part of his strategy to remain in the game.

While many might see this as a smart strategy to get to the final, it drew the wrath of his castmate, Johnny Bananas.

Viewers saw them get into a verbal altercation in a recent episode over this, and then Ryan volunteered to be his team’s target after the elimination event.

During a return visit to the Zach Nichols Podcast, Ryan revealed he had an unfilmed confrontation involving Bananas that the episode footage didn’t present or mention.

The Challenge’s Josh Martinez reacts to Cory Wharton’s warning after Battle of the Eras drama
Image
A war of words erupted on The Challenge: Battle of the Eras between friends Josh Martinez and Cory Wharton, leading to further remarks on social media.

During the recent installment of MTV’s competition show, viewers saw the era teams face off in a Gladiator-themed daily challenge involving large shields and trying to push opposing players into the nearby water.

Era 4 came away with the victory, giving their targets, Jenny West and Theo Campbell, the power to decide which players went into the elimination against Era 1’s Derrick Kosinski and Rachel Robinson.

Potential picks for The Arena included Era 3’s Cory and Averey Tressler or Era 2’s Derek Chavez and Cara Maria Sorbello.

Ultimately, Cory and Averey got sent in. Cory became upset that his friend and ally, Josh Martinez, didn’t dissuade his Era 4 teammates from putting him into the elimination.

Following his televised victory over Derrick,...

‘The Challenge’ Stars Derrick Kosinski & Averey Tressler Reflect on Season 40 Struggles
Image
It was yet another brutal week for Era 1 in The Challenge‘s latest episode, “The Era of the Gladiator.” Though Derrick Kosinski, who was still suffering from a brutal leg injury, successfully made a deal with Era 4’s Theo Campbell that would keep himself or Rachel Robinson being thrown into the elimination arena, it was out of anyone’s hands when Era 1 lost the daily challenge. To Theo’s credit, his team did align with Era 1’s two remaining players on the field, but there wasn’t much they could do to prevent them from having the fewest players left on the battleground at the end of the challenge. Meanwhile, Cory Wharton caused a bit of a scuffle by downplaying Derrick’s efforts during the daily, and their argument boiled over into the deliberation. That left him and fellow Era 3 target Averey Tressler as easy marks for the arena, and...

The Challenge star Wes Bergmann warns Horacio Gutierrez and Nurys Mateo ‘Don’t bite the hand that feeds you’
Wes Bergmann
Wes Bergmann isn’t competing on The Challenge: Battle of the Eras, but still enjoys the season as a spectator and critic.

In addition to analyzing the episodes for his subscriber-based video reviews, the multi-time champion also monitors various developments outside the show.

He’s recently slammed former castmate Laurel Stucky amid her ongoing drama with Cara Maria Sorbello on Season 40.

Another significant controversy arrived when MTV Og Derrick Kosinski eliminated newer competitor Horacio Gutierrez early on Season 40.

Horacio’s girlfriend, Nurys Mateo, who was already eliminated earlier in the season and was not present during Horacio’s elimination, immediately blasted The Challenge production on social media for lying to viewers about how the elimination went.

Horacio also released a video about how he felt a lot went wrong during the event, leading to what some called an unfair result.

However, producers had a private meeting with him and Derrick,...

The Challenge’s Darrell Taylor say’s Season 40 castmate’s ‘bully’ behavior ‘ain’t healthy’
Dev and Subhasree Ganguly in Challenge (2009)
Darrell Taylor had his share of fights and arguments in his earlier days on The Challenge, but fans likely didn’t expect to see him get heated in his Season 40 return.

Darrell, a four-time champion on MTV’s competition series, participated in Battle of the Eras as part of the Era 1 team.

Teammates included many other OGs and champs, such as Mark Long, Ct Tamburello, Derrick Kosinski, Jodi Weatherton, and Rachel Robinson.

However, they were up against some tough competitors, and it seemed the three other teams wanted Era 1 entirely out of the game.

One of Season 40’s unique twists involves competitors who win eliminations getting to select a target player from each team.

After Darrell won, he got to select one female from each of the four teams and decided upon Laurel Stucky from Era 2, seemingly upsetting her.

‘The Challenge’: Darrell Taylor & Tina Barta Break Down Era 1’s Latest Loss
Image
The Challenge fans might’ve reasonably expected Era 1 to be the one to beat on Season 40 a.k.a. Battle of the Eras, but that has decidedly not been the case. Instead, the Challenge elders have seen their team absolutely decimated, with every single week’s arena costing them a number. In the first week of eliminations it was Mark Long and Katie Cooley who had to pack their bags prematurely. In week two, Jodi Weatherton said goodbye. In week three, Aneesa Ferreira went home. Then, in week four, everyone’s favorite uncle Chris “Ct” Tamburello lost in a shocker. Coming into week five, there were just four remaining players on Era 1: Darrell Taylor, Tina Barta, Rachel Robinson, and Derrick Kosinski. So the loss of not one but two more players — despite a college-try performance in a scary daily challenge and some light bargaining efforts in the deliberation — in...

It generated much buzz and debate online, including remarks from Nurys and Horacio about how things went.

As fans continued to call out The Challenge, it ultimately prompted the show’s producers to have a Zoom video call so that Horacio and Derrick could see everything as it happened.

Horacio admitted that he “missed” an essential rule in the event and that Derrick deserved the win. Recently, Nurys spoke about the situation after she’d previously defended Horacio and slammed the show’s production.

Johnny Bananas gave his take on that controversial elimination from The Challenge: Battle of the Eras.

In addition, Horacio commented in interviews and on his social media that he didn’t accept he lost the event due to what happened that fans didn’t see.
