Arranca el rodaje entre Madrid, Valladolid y México de Voy a pasármelo mejor, la secuela de la comedia musical de 2022 Voy a pasármelo bien, que reunió a más de 360.000 espectadores en su estreno en cines y fue número 1 en Prime Video.

Voy a pasármelo mejor está ambientada en 1991 cuando los Pitus, al llegar el verano, se van de campamento. Al ritmo de las canciones más llamativas del año, cada uno de ellos se enamorará con la ilusión que solo se tiene a los catorce años.

La película marca el debut en la dirección de Ana de Alva y está escrita nuevamente por David Serrano, con un reparto encabezado por los jóvenes talentos Izan Fernández, Renata Hermida, Michel Herráiz, Rodrigo Gibaja, Diego Montejo y Rodrigo Díaz, acompañados de Raúl Arévalo y Karla Souza.

Legendary Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar received a hero’s welcome at the San Sebastian Film Festival where he arrived this morning to speak with the press before receiving the festival’s honorary Donostia Award for career achievement.

Almodóvar was accompanied by British actress Tilda Swinton.The maverick filmmaker will present their latest collaboration The Room Next Door as part of the Donostia Award celebrations this evening.

The press conference room was packed — which isn’t common at San Sebastian — and Almodóvar was swarmed by journalists who rushed to snap his picture. He was even presented with a handmade gift by one of the reporters in the room.

Netflix Spain unveiled two new film projects at the San Sebastian International Film Festival that it is producing with Spanish filmmakers and production companies.

Carlos Sedes’ La Viuda Negra (which translates as The Black Widow) is being produced by Ramón Campos’ film and TV outfit Bambú Producciones, whose credits include Cable Girls and Isaki Lacuesta’s One Year, One Night.

The race-against-time thriller is about a body found in a parking lot in Valencia and the unexpected suspect the investigation digs up. It is now in pre-production.

Sedes is best known for TV series Fariña and, more recently, The Asunta Case.

Netflix launched two new film titles and shared details on several projects currently in development at a buzzy showcase this afternoon at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

The streamer announced at the event that it will back two new genre projects, Cortafuego directed by David Victori (Cross The Line), and The Black Widow from filmmaker Carlos Sedes (The Summer We Lived).

The Black Widow will be produced by Ramón Campos, Bambú Producciones. The official synopsis shared by the streamer reads: August 2017. La 72ª edición del Festival de Cine de San Sebastián contará con una notable presencia de cineastas, actores, guionistas y productoras de renombre que se darán cita en la ciudad.

Pedro Almodóvar unveiled his latest feature, and his first in English, The Room Next Door, here at the Venice Film Festival this evening, receiving a mega 18-minute, 36-second ovation.

As soon as the lights came on and the audience stood, Almodóvar kissed the hands of both leading ladies, Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton. The unusually long length of the ovation was likely due to the cast and Almodóvar descending from the gallery and staying for awhile, clapping along with the crowd.

The Spanish maestro was joined at the world premiere screening by stars Moore and Swinton. Also featuring in the cast are Alessandro Nivola, Juan Diego Botto, Raúl Arévalo, Melina Mathews and Victoria Luengo, among others.

The filmmaker, along with stars Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, met with reporters this afternoon following the first press screenings. The trio talked about everything from euthanasia to climate change, female friendships and their mutual admiration.

In The Room Next Door, Moore stars as Ingrid, a best-selling writer who rekindles a relationship with her friend Martha, a war journalist played by Swinton. The two women immerse themselves in their pasts, but Martha has a request that will test their newly strengthened bond. The Venice Film Festival on Tuesday unveiled its official, star-packed lineup for its 81st edition, which runs from Aug. 28 to Sept. 7.

Joker: Folie à Deux, Todd Phillips’ sequel to his 2019 Golden Lion-winning Joker, will also bow in Venice. Joaquin Phoenix, who won a best actor Oscar for his portrayal of Arthur Fleck, aka Joker, in the original, returns in the musical sequel, with Lady Gaga playing Harley Quinn, his love interest and partner in crime. Venice favorites Brad Pitt and George Clooney will return to the Lido with Wolfs, an action drama from Jon Watts (Spider-Man: No Way Home) about two lone-wolf fixers assigned to the same job. “Girl, Unknown,” the sophomore feature from Spanish director Pablo Maqueda (“Dear Werner”), currently ranks as one of the early buzz titles at the Málaga Film Festival, even before its world premiere.

The film adapts Paco Bezerra’s stage play “Grooming.” Maqueda, Bezerra and Haizea G. Viana wrote the script, which retains the play’s unsettling cat-and-mouse element. It delves into the recesses of desire, raising questions on depravity, sexuality, and the drive to be fulfilled. The story unfolds a pendulum swinging power dynamic between the seemingly innocent 16 year old Carolina, and a middle aged man she meets in a park named Leo. What begins and is a case of grooming morphs into something far more complex due to Carolina not being all she seems. Maqueda shows a Hanekesque talent in balancing the disturbing with the thrilling. On the film, Maqueda told Variety: “I feel the film as a kaleidoscope and the characters as masks.

María Zamora is the Spanish producer of Carla Simón’s Golden Bear winner ’Alcarras’.

María Zamora, the Spanish producer of Carla Simón’s Golden Bear winner Alcarràs, has acquired the novel Miss Marte and is developing the screenplay as a TV series.

It will be a collaboration between Zamora’s Elastica Films with Matriuska Producciones.

Eduard Solà has written the series bible and script for the pilot. Zamora is now talking to streamers for what is planned to be 30-minute episodes, each with a different character’s perspective.

Miss Marte is set in Galicia over 25 years from the early 1990s.

Barcelona-based Filmax has picked up international sales rights to psychological thriller “Girl Unknown” (“La desconocida”), the sophomore film by Spanish director Pablo Maqueda (“Dear Werner”).

The film is based on the hit play “Grooming,” penned by Paco Bezerra, which has been adapted in more than 10 countries. Filmax is launching the film with a first promo at the European Film Market.

“Girl Unknown,” a Spanish co-production from Fórmula Cine Aie in association with Elamedia Estudio and La Fragua Producciones, shot on locations in Madrid and Albacete, and is currently in post.

The biggest product in Spain of the M&a boom which looks set to power much future entertainment growth in Europe, Buendía Estudios, a joint venture of Telefonica’s Movistar Plus and Atresmedia, is fast driving into second-phase expansion in Latin America.

In one move last November, Buendía tapped former Telemundo Global Studios exec Ana Paula Valdovinos as director of production and development for Latin America and U.S. Hispanic.

Valdovinos will be based out of Mexico, Latin America’s “nerve and talent center,” she said, as the country also accounts for approximately 70% of the 70 million Latinx population in the U.S.

Movistar Plus, the streaming and broadcast arm of Spanish telco giant Telefonica, has confirmed a breathtaking roster of talent which will helm its upcoming five-part anthology series “Apagón,” produced by Buendía Estudios.

Inspired by the popular “El gran apagón” podcast, the series features five stand-alone stories, connected only in that they take place after a solar flair causes a worldwide blackout – “apagón” in Spanish – and deals with the consequences that such a catastrophe might impose.

ViacomCBS International Studios (Vis) has boarded Amazon Prime Video and Rtve’s resurrection of Chicho Ibáñez Serrador’s legendary Spanish horror series “Historias Para No Dormir,” (“Stories to Stay Awake”), which started filming this week in Madrid.

Set as a four-part anthology miniseries, “Historias Para No Dormir” boasts a superstar cast and crew on either side of the camera, with episodes to be directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Rodrigo Sorogoyen (“Mother”), Spanish Academy Goya-winner Rodrigo Cortés (“Buried”), “[Rec]” writer-director Paco Plaza, and Paula Ortiz, director of “The Bride.” Local outfit Prointel e Isla Audiovisual has been tasked with producing the reboot.

Episode 1, “La Broma” (The Joke) is currently filming in the Spanish capital, written and directed by Rodrigo Cortés. Sony International opened the film in Spain March 22 and it makes its big debut in competition at Cannes. The film reunites Almodovar with Antonio Banderas, his collaborator on films including the actor’s breakout, Tie Me Up! Tie Me Down and Women On The Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Asier Etxeandia, Leonardo Sbaraglia, Raúl Arévalo, Nora Navas, Julieta Serrano, and Penélope Cruz are all involved.

The film tells of a series of re-encounters experienced by Salvador Mallo, a film director in his physical decline. Some of them in the flesh, others remembered. Barcelona – “Who Would You Take to a Desert Island?” is the second directorial outing from Spain’s Jota Linares (“Animales sin collar”) a Netflix Original premiering on Friday, March 22 in competition at the Malaga Spanish Language Film Festival.

Starring María Pedraza, Jaime Lorente, Pol Monen and Andrea Ros, the film is the movie adaptation of a successful play which found remarkable success on Spain’s off-stage circuit.

The director says: “It’s my love-hate letter to my generation; a dramatic comedy about young people facing up to the person they have become. It’s a necessary, yet uncommon generational story in cinema.”

The Olive Tree The Edinburgh International Film Festival has announced that Spain will be its country focus next year.

The Once Upon A Time In Spain selection will be split into three strands: A Retrospective Celebration of Modern Spanish Cinema; A Retrospective Selection of Cult Spanish Cinema and an in-depth celebration of the work of Edinburgh-based Spanish filmmaker Icíar Bollaín. Her latest film, Yuli, is due in cinemas next year and we'll be bringing you an interview with her and writer Paul Laverty then.
