In the new Amazon Prime Mexican series, No One Will Miss Us, directed by Catalina Aguilar Mastretta, we meet a boy named Memo, who starts off as shy and timid and feels out of place. Over time, Memo finds a group of nerdy friends who support him, protect Memo from bullies, and help him build confidence. Memo goes from being an unnoticed outsider to the talk of the school. But then, just as suddenly as Memo appeared, he was gone. Memo is a bit like Neville Longbottom from Harry Potter—an unsung hero. This boy doesn’t share his feelings with anyone, and when he decides to end his life, it happens so fast and unexpectedly that no one, not even his friends, sees it coming.
No One Will Miss Us really dives deep into the struggles of being a teenager, making friends, and finding yourself. It handles the tough topic of suicide so delicately.

It’s been a minute since we checked in on Máximo, old and young, and Las Colinas. Actually, it’s been like 16 months in the real world, which is why it was a wise choice for the “Acapulco” Season 3 trailer to open with the exposition it did.
Máximo (Eugenio Derbez): “Hugo, do you remember where my rags-to-riches life story left off? It all started with a job as Las Colinas. I told you about my big promotion and Julia and I getting together — but there’s still so much more I haven’t told you.”
Smash Cut To: Season 2’s big cliffhanger moment. Oh that’s right, (old) Máximo has a grownup daughter we didn’t even know about. The trailer doesn’t really get into that storyline, but certainly the season will.

The following contains spoilers for Season 1 of The Gryphon, now streaming on Prime Video.
One of the most important elements of Prime Video's The Gryphon is just how much loyalty and unity means to Mark. The young hero in the small German town, Krefelden, has been chosen to defeat the titular character in the dark fantasy world known as the Black Tower. However, Season 1 had him working to believe in himself, and convince his friends and family on Earth he wasn't crazy.
In the process, Mark worked up the courage to face this villain, who cuts a figure similar to Sauron from The Lord of the Rings. However, while Mark thought his training was going well, a sinister betrayal gives the Gryphon and the Horned Ones (who look like pastiches to J.R.R. Tolkien's Orcs) the upper-hand. In the process, The Gryphon has set up a war-filled Season 2 that will...

Netflix's Chupa may not be the most eye-catching movie to subscribers scrolling through the streaming service, but it's worth a watch. The film does an engaging job of recreating the feel of kids' movies from the '90s. Aside from providing nostalgia for older viewers and portraying a decent representation of Mexican culture, the work embodies the spirit of the family-friendly friendship movies that were all the rage back then. In short, through its plot and treatment of the titular character, Chupa encompasses the best qualities of the era's style regarding family entertainment.
For starters, the '90s had a knack for taking supernatural, mythical and outrageous animals or creatures and turning them into the cutest mascots that could easily be converted into a franchise or merchandise. Chupa is no different. After all, Netflix's online shop carries a plush modeled on the chupacabra cub. However, the similarities between the...

You may not realize it, but the fantasy genre has a way of bridging boundaries between radically different groups of people. While worldly cultures and customs often collide with each other in a mess of expectations and misunderstandings, fantasy worlds offer an even playing field for telling a universally-understood story.
For example, in Prime Video's upcoming German original, The Gryphon, you won't have to understand the history of German culture and mannerisms to enjoy a classic story from one of the country's most prolific authors. It'd certainly help, but it's not necessary.
Yes, The Gryphon -- aka, Der Greif -- from acclaimed German author Wolfgang Hohlbein is hitting the small screen in an epic fantasy series produced by Amazon. Originally announced in 2021 alongside Luden and Gefesselt, the series will be developed by the same studio behind Netflix's critically-acclaimed series Dark, W&b Television.
If that wasn't enough of a draw,...
