Filming Underway On New Alan Partridge BBC Series

Filming is underway on new Alan Partridge mockumentary And Did Those Feet. Deadline revealed the BBC series several months back and cameras have rolled on the latest Steve Coogan conception. The mockumentary follows the beloved comedy creation settling into life back in his Norfolk home after a year working in Saudi Arabia, but the adjustment has left him with a deep sense of unease. Over six episodes he will unpack what is missing in his life, explore why the nation is in such a funk and find out what it might take to keep a person funk-free. “This look into the state of the nation (and Alan’s own psyche) through a unique lens – that of Alan Partridge – promises to further bolster the already iconic repertoire of the most legendary comedy character in the UK,” said BBC comedy boss Jon Petrie. Coogan...

Steve Coogan at an event for Tropic Thunder (2008)
Alan Partridge | Filming begins on next TV series, And Did Those Feet
Steve Coogan at an event for Tropic Thunder (2008)
Steve Coogan is back as Alan Partridge, for the new BBC show And Did Those Feet… with Alan Partridge. More details here.

Steve Coogan is back in the guise of Alan Partridge, for a brand new BBC series that’s now officially started shooting. As revealed earlier this year, the show is a documentary series called And Did Those Feet… with Alan Partridge. It’s a six-part series, and filming got underway last week in the south of England.

The BBC has confirmed that the show is before the cameras, and released some fresh information about it too. Don’t read on if you don’t want to know anything about it, he says, stating the bleedin’ obvious.

When we meet Alan in And Did Those Feet… with Alan Partridge, he’s been out of the country for a year in Saudi Arabia, but is now returning to Norfolk. As per the official blurb,...

Alan Partridge Returns in First Look Image From BBC Mockumentary ‘And Did Those Feet…’
Image
Alan Partridge is officially back as evidenced by a new first look image from his upcoming BBC documentary “And Did Those Feet… with Alan Partridge.”

Filming has officially commenced on the show, in which comedian Steve Coogan (who was twice nominated for Oscars his work on 2013 comedy-drama “Philomena”) reprises his role as the hapless interviewer.

The six-part mockumentary follows Partridge as he returns to Norfolk following a year in Saudi Arabia and struggles to reintegrate.

“One of the first – if not the first – documentary to address the issue of mental wellness, the six-part series follows the revered and beloved broadcaster on a quest to understand what’s going on, with Britain’s minds and his own,” reads the official logline. “It’s a show that makes a statement that will create shockwaves: ‘I’m Alan Partridge, and I’m not Ok.’ Partridge will write, present and produce the series. He will also direct the series.

Steve Coogan at an event for Tropic Thunder (2008)
Alan Partridge | Steve Coogan’s iconic character returning to the BBC for new comedy series
Steve Coogan at an event for Tropic Thunder (2008)
Steve Coogan is reprising his iconic role of Alan Partridge for new spoof documentary And Did Those Feet… Here are the details.

The BBC has announced a new Alan Partridge series, which will take the form of a spoof documentary called And Did Those Feet… With Alan Partridge. It’s once again written by Steve Coogan and brothers Neil and Rob Gibbons, with the latter also directing. The official description of the series reads as follows:

In his new documentary series – And Did Those Feet… With Alan Partridge – we follow the beloved and, to be fair, revered broadcaster as he reintegrates into life in Britain after a year working in Saudi Arabia. But what begins as a documentary about homecoming soon morphs into something more personal as Alan realises that the happiness he thought he’d feel at being back in Norwich just hasn’t materialised. Something’s missing.

They’ve Let Alan Partridge Back in the BBC (But Not on the This Time Sofa)
Image
The last time BBC audiences saw Alan Partridge, he was being refused entry to Broadcasting House. The suits up in their ivory offices didn’t want a truth-talking troublemaker like him around, a man of the people, for the people, near some people.

Also, he’d forgotten his security pass.

Now, it’s a new chapter for Partridge on the Beeb. Following his 2020 – 2021 stint as co-presenter on weeknight light chat magazine programme ‘This Time’, he’s back with a fresh format. And Did Those Feet… with Alan Partridge is a new BBC documentary series following the presenter’s reintegration into life in Britain after spending a year working in Saudi Arabia. Will Norwich greet its prodigal son with a fatted calf or a cold shoulder?

As a reminder, Partridge’s time at ‘This Time’ ended in June 2021 when he enacted an on-air rebellion in the style of Network’s Howard Beale.

15 Actors That Never Escaped Their Most Famous Characters
Image
From Kelsey Grammer as Frasier Crane to Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, some actors just can’t get away from their most famous character. Playing an iconic role in a movie or a TV show can be a gift and a curse for an actor. It launches them to stardom and often paves the way for more roles in other projects, but they’re forever associated with that character. Daniel Radcliffe will always be Harry Potter, Elijah Wood will always be Frodo Baggins, and Kristen Stewart will always be Bella Swan.

Sometimes, an actor is not only inextricably linked to their most well-known character, but gets stuck playing that role for years and years – despite trying to leave it behind somewhere along the line. Hugh Jackman gave Wolverine a perfect sendoff in Logan, but the producers managed to convince him to reprise the role in Deadpool 3. Arnold Schwarzenegger has...

Steve Coogan’s ‘Alan Partridge Live: Stratagem’ To Stream On Amazon Prime UK In Winter; Other Territories To Follow
Image
Exclusive: Steve Coogan’s Alan Partridge Live: Stratagem will stream on Amazon Prime UK in the winter, Deadline can reveal. Chris Bird, Managing Director Prime Video UK, confirmed the news.

Alan Partridge Live: Stratagem toured the UK and Ireland this April and May, 14 years after the Coogan alter ego’s last live tour. The Phil McIntyre Live Ltd and Baby Cow Productions production was filmed when the show played London’s O2 Arena last month.

Coogan (Philomena) introduced the character Alan Partridge as a parody of a certain type of bumptious, British television personality in 1991 in the BBC Radio 4 spoof current affairs show On the Hour, featured as its sports correspondent. That resulted in a multitude of spinoffs, including radio chat show Knowing Me, Knowing You, that was later adapted for TV.

There was an Alan Partridge film released in 2013 and a spoof autobiography.

Alan Partridge Live: Stratagem starred...

Steve Coogan returns to a beloved character with This Time with Alan Partridge
Author: Zehra Phelan

The BBC has announced that Steve Coogan’s Alan Partridge is set to return to the airwaves in a new series, This Time with Alan Partridge, later this year as filming on a new series has begun.

The show will see Alan (Steve Coogan) handed a career lifeline – the chance to stand in (temporarily) as co-host on This Time, an evening weekday magazine show.

His first return to live television since his 90s chat show Knowing Me, Knowing You was cancelled after a guest was fatally shot on air, This Time is the perfect shop window for a man of Alan’s gravitas and will, or should, see him finally recognised as one of the heavyweight broadcasters of his era.

The show itself is a heady mix of consumer affairs, current affairs, viewer interaction, highbrow interview and lightweight froth; very much the sweet spots for a man...

Steve Coogan’s tactless alter ego Alan Partridge is coming back to a screen near you in a new one-hour mockumentary titled “Alan Partridge’s Scissored Isle” for the streaming comedy channel Seeso.

In this new special Alan will head to the north of England, leaving behind his comfortable existence, for a personal journey of redemption. Per the synopsis, “With his Land Rover and his dog, he journeys into an unreported Britain inhabited by the very people he had offended to ask whether, in this once united kingdom, a ‘schasm’ has formed – a schism or chasm, between the haves and the have-nots (or haven’ts).”

The presenter will live among everyday people in hopes to understand them, see the world through their eyes and ultimately become a better citizen, man and more sought-after broadcaster.

Nominations For The 68th Annual Writers Guild Of America Awards
The Writers Guild of America has just announced the nominations for their annual awards for Best Screenplays (by writers who are guild signatories). That’s right, before you get nervous thinking that your favorite may have been left off the list, you must remember that the WGA is the group that is not all-inclusive and leaves out several of the top contenders each year due to them not being part of the guild or not following their very specific rules. For this reason, you won’t see Inside Out, The Hateful Eight, and Ex Machina in the Original Screenplay category or Room, Brooklyn, or Anomalisa in the Adapted screenplay category.

Taking a look at what’s left over for the nominations, we find many that were expected to make a showing, including Spotlight and Bridge of Spies for Original Screenplay, though they apparently had to sink to really low depths...

Director Michael Winterbottom Exits Will Ferrell’s Roger Ebert Biopic Russ & Roger
Citing “creative differences,” director Michael Winterbottom has exited comedic biopic Russ & Roger, according to a report by The Wrap.

Attached to the simmering comedic project since last April, Winterbottom appeared to be a shoo-in to take the reins of the feature film when production was finally set in motion early next year, though Stx Entertainment will now begin canvassing for a replacement sooner rather than later. Orbiting around the atypical real-life friendship between filmmaker Russ Meyer and film critic Roger Ebert, Stx’s drama still has a hold of Will Ferrell and Pixels star Josh Gad, who are on board to play Meyer and Ebert, respectively.

Russ & Roger will chart their mutual love for all things cinema, and their collaborations behind the lens – most notably for 1970’s cult classic Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. Defying the then-steadfast Hollywood establishment in every which way, Ebert and Meyer co-wrote the uproarious feature,...

Josh Gad On To Play Roger Ebert
Roger Ebert
The unlikely – but true – story of how film journalist Roger Ebert and thrifty-budget cinematic showman Russ Meyer came to work together was always destined to become a film. Russ & Roger Go Beyond has been developing for a while and Josh Gad has locked in the role of Ebert. Will Ferrell was attached to this one first, after flirting with the idea last August. Since then, Michael Winterbottom has come aboard to direct, working on a new draft of the script with Partridge/Veep laugh-generating experts Neil and Rob Gibbons.Originally Written by Saturday Night Live and Simpsons veteran Christopher Cluess, the comedy focuses on Meyer's late 1960s desire to combine his pulp talents with big studio backing, hashing out a deal with 20th Century Fox boss Richard Zanuck to produce something for a low budget. Targeting soft-core tale Beyond The Valley Of The Dolls, Meyer approached Ebert, then a low-on-the-roster...

Best TV Episodes of 2015 (So Far): Part Three
Check out Part 1 and Part 2 of the Best TV Episodes of 2015 (So Far)

Justified, “The Promise”

Written by Graham Yost & Fred Golan & Dave Andron & Benjamin Cavell

Directed by Adam Arkin

Aired April 14th, 2015 on FX

Over the course of its run, Justified established itself as a top tier drama, which meant that expectations were high going into its sixth and final season. The series finale, however, delivered on several fronts, elevating itself into not only a highlight of the show, but a highlight of the television year as a whole to date. The deft manner in which the episode balances its numerous characters is one of the key ways in which it distinguishes itself. While the finale’s most important showdown is the one between Boyd and Raylan, the writers make sure to give the season’s antagonist Avery Markham his due as well, not diminishing the danger he posed by dismissing him easily.

Film Review: British Import ‘Alan Partridge’ With Steve Coogan is Just Plain Silly
Chicago – Before earning Oscar nom validation for his “Philomena” screenplay last year, British comedian Steve Coogan led a separate life as Alan Partridge, a dopey media personality who symbolized the danger of empowering clowns like him with a microphone, whether on a news program, a late night show, or in a radio booth.

Rating: 3.0/5.0

A daffy concoction co-created by Armando Iannucci (of HBO’s “Veep” and the satirical film “In the Loop”), the character has bopped around different BBC series for years, until now getting his first feature film. With Coogan given a rare opportunity to show his prowess stateside as a lead comedian (he has appeared in “The Other Guys,” “Tropic Thunder,” and “Our Idiot Brother” in side roles), this British comedy does have a special charm. But even a certified comedian can only take a spotty collection of bits so far.

The latest adventure for Partridge finds him...

"Alan Partridge" Movie Gets A Sequel
Baby Cow Productions co-founder Henry Normal says that Steve Coogan's iconic character Alan Partridge is set to return in both a film sequel and a new special for British broadcaster Sky.

Speaking at Advertising Week Europe, Normal says: "We are planning a sequel, yes, that will be great. We are also looking at doing more Mid Morning Matters and another Sky special, a little bit like Coast with Alan Partridge, except I don't think he goes out of Norfolk."

Coogan's character is a fictional presenter and basically sends up sports commentators and chat show presenters. He's starred in numerous radio and TV series and specials since the early 1990s.

Normal adds that writing has begun and the film aims to begin filming late in the Summer. The first film, entitled "Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa" in the U.K. and released the other week as just "Alan Partridge" in the United States,...

Henry Normal, the co-founder of Steve Coogan’s production house Baby Cow, told the Guardian that a sequel to Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa and a new Sky series are both in the pipeline.“We are planning a sequel, yes, that will be great,” Normal revealed at Advertising Week Europe. “We are also looking at doing more Mid Morning Matters and another Sky special, a little bit like Coast with Alan Partridge, except I don't think he goes out of Norfolk.”According to Normal, the writing team will fire up almost immediately. “We start writing now”, he said, “[and] I think we make it at the end of summer.”Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, which pooled the scribing skills of Coogan, Armando Iannucci and brothers Neil and Rob Gibbons,...

In A Nutshell: Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa
A feature length version of Alan Partridge has been in the pipeline for years, but according to creator and star Steve Coogan, the timing was never quite right. For those of you out of the loop, Veteran broadcaster Alan Partridge (Coogan) is currently working as a mid-morning DJ at North Norfolk Digital. The station is being taken over by a new media conglomerate, and after a series of unexpected events, Alan finds himself at the heart of a violent siege. Can the radio and TV legend talk down disgruntled colleague Pat Farrell (Colin Meaney), or will this Hectic Danger Day end the career of Norfolk's very own Alpha Papa? Directed by Declan Lowney (Father Ted), and written by Rob Gibbons, Neil Gibbons, Steve Coogan, Armando Lannucci and Peter Baynham, Alpha Papa brings back all your favourite Alan Partridge characters and throws a few new ones into the mix. TV to...

‘Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa’ Review
Stars: Steve Coogan, Colm Meaney, Anna Maxwell Martin, Sean Pertwee, Jessica Knappett, Darren Boyd, Monica Dolan, Nigel Lindsay | Written by Neil Gibbons, Rob Gibbons, Peter Baynham, Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci | Directed by Declan Lowney

When it comes to British television if you were to mention Steve Coogan even the most cynical of fan would smile, he is just that type of man. He is a man who will give his all for comedy, and maybe even take a moment to be dramatic if the moment calls for it (think Philomena). The fact is though there will always be a few characters that we will all remember, and no this time it’s not Paul Calf it is in fact Alan Partridge who has his moment to shine in Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa.

The safest story for Alan to make a return would probably be him trying to get back onto the BBC yet again,...

Nyff 2013: Steve Coogan revisits his most famous character in ‘Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa’
Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa

Written by Neil Gibbons, Rob Gibbons, Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci, and Peter Baynham

Directed by Declan Lowney

UK, 2013

The subtitle for the new film Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa is intentionally, comically irrelevant. Movie posters can be found on the Internet promoting equally nonsense subtitles such as Gunbird and Hectic Danger Day, in keeping with the overblown confidence of the title character. The comically self-centered Partridge was first played by Steve Coogan about 20 years ago as a sports reporter on the BBC news parody program On the Hour, and has bounced around from parody news to sitcom to web-only video series before finally arriving on the big screen. Though Alan Partridge has found its way to American shores as part of the New York Film Festival, it compromises nothing for American audiences. This is among the most British of British comedies.

At the start of the film,...

Steve Coogan Comedy Alan Partridge Set for Early 2014 U.S. Release
Steve Coogan in Alan Partridge (2013)
Magnolia Pictures has acquired the North American distribution rights for the BBC Films/Studio Canal comedy Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa, ensuring that the pic will get a theatrical release here in the U.S. For those unaware, the film is a feature adaptation of the popular BBC TV series and radio character Alan Partridge, portrayed by Steve Coogan. Patridge is a bit of a parody of sports commentators and talk show hosts, as the character is himself a radio host and television presenter for I’m Alan Partridge. Magnolia is eyeing an early 2014 release for the film here in the States, where it will simply be titled Alan Partridge. The pic hit U.K. theaters on August 7th, where it has been enjoying a rather successful theatrical run for the past couple of weeks. Magnolia Will Bring You Alan Partridge In 2014
If you need to know more about Alan Partridge than just the names Steve Coogan, and the insufferably under-appreciated Colm Meaney, well, I suppose I could offer up the fact that the film is a hit in the UK. Actually, I suppose if the first part didn’t work, the second isn’t any more likely to sway you.

Nevertheless, Magnolia is bringing you the movie, and you should thank them for doing it.

Magnolia Makes “Alan Partridge” a Hostage Ahead of Nyff Premiere
Apparently Michael Winterbottom doesn’t own the Steve Coogan trademark – his schtick and comedic genius happens to be a part of a brand that North American auds might be unfamiliar with. Going by the shorter, more introductory type of title (they nipped it down from the longer Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa) Magnolia have picked up the rights to helmer Declan Lowney’s Alan Partridge, which was announced as part of the 51st Nyff line-up and was released in the UK earlier this month. A 2014 release is being planned by the outfitter.

Gist: Written by Rob Gibbons, Neil Gibbons, Steve Coogan, Armando Iannucci and Peter Baynham, Alan Partridge has had many ups and downs in his life. National television broadcaster. Responsible for killing a guest on live TV. Local radio broadcaster. A nervous breakdown in Dundee. His self-published book,’Bouncing Back’, subsequently remaindered and pulped. Magnolia takes Alan Partridge
Steve Coogan at an event for Tropic Thunder (2008)
The distributor has set an early 2014 release for the UK comedy smash following a North American rights deal with StudioCanal.

Alan Partridge, based on Norfolk’s notorious fictitious broadcaster created by Steve Coogan some 20 years ago, will receive its North American premiere at the 2013 New York Film Festival.

The first feature outing for Partridge sees the gaffe-prone former BBC talk show host embroiled in a siege at a radio station involving a disgruntled former employee. Colm Meaney, Simon Greenall and Felicity Montagu also star.

Declan Lowney directed the Baby Cow/Studiocanal production from a screenplay by Rob Gibbons, Neil Gibbons, Coogan, Armando Iannucci and Peter Baynham.

Kevin Loader and Henry Normal produced and Rob Gibbons, Neil Gibbons, Iannucci, Danny Perkins, Joe Oppenheimer and Christine Langan served as executive producers.

“As big fans of Steve Coogan and the talented crew at Baby Cow, we are very excited to be working on this incredibly funny film,” said Magnolia...

The HeyUGuys Interview: Writers Neil and Rob Gibbons discuss Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa
Alan Partridge (Steve Coogan) has been a British comedy icon for almost two decades now – but it’s the fictional characters’ latest recruits who have given him the new lease of life he deserved, as we caught up with the writers of Alan’s debut feature Alpha Papa, Neil and Rob Gibbons.

The brothers (it’s not that much of a coincidence) first came on board to supply material for Alan’s Mid Morning Matters, a show which encouraged the filmmakers to finally bring the much loved Norfolk broadcaster to the big screen. The pair discuss the challenge in adding new comedy material to an already established character, and just how long they had been planning this movie- which hits cinemas on August 7 nationwide.

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa Review
Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

It’s been a busy couple of years for Alan Partridge, who despite being fictional is enjoying a career renaissance that most regional disc-jockeys can only dream of. He’s written a bestselling memoir, embarked on a nationwide book tour of East Anglia and fronted a soul-searching documentary for Sky Atlantic, all the while continuing to pour ‘radio gravy’ into the ears of listeners right across the North Norfolk area. As if that wasn’t enough, he’s now ‘top daddy’ in a new movie from ‘the French dudes’ at StudioCanal and his hated former paymasters at the BBC.

Alpha Papa is a siege drama that Partridge might pitch as ‘Jason Statham meets Roger Moore on a Dog Day Afternoon in Norwich City Centre (plus the A140 to Cromer) for the Mail Online comments-section generation, but without the gay agenda (of Dog Day Afternoon, not Jason Statham...

Steve Coogan: 'Me and Partridge overlap'
After a blustery day behind the scenes of Alpha Papa, the question remains: where does Steve Coogan end and his most famous creation begin?

A freezing winter day in Cromer and it is impossible to tell where reality stops and Alan Partridge's world starts. "The best smiles for miles," says an advert for Cromer pier. "If hearty fun is good for the ticker," suggests another, GPs should prescribe "a strong dose of Cromer's seaside special". These Partridge-esque pronouncements are real but the pier shooting gallery and Susan Boyle poster are not. Two of a phalanx of police officers who have sealed off the pier from the public are genuine but most are actors watching the denouement of the long-awaited Alan Partridge movie.

The sheepskin gloves Steve Coogan is wearing when we shake hands must be Alan's? "They are actually mine," says Coogan, a little defensively, "but there is an overlap.
