The 16th edition of Mumbai’s Kashish Pride Film Festival wrapped its five-day run with an awards ceremony that saw Icelandic trans drama “Odd Fish” and Brazilian-Dutch co-production “Baby” emerge as the night’s biggest winners.

“Odd Fish,” directed by Snaevar Solvason, won the best narrative feature award, while its lead actor Arna Magnea Danks scored best performance in a lead role. The film also earned a special jury mention for screenplay.

“These are the first ever award wins for the film, and the film has travelled to many film festivals,” said writer-director Solvason. “I love India and this award has brought sunshine into this rather cold countryside.”

Joining Monga Kapoor and Motwane are director-producer Abhishek Chaubey and producer Neeraj Churi as jury members for the Kashish QDrishti Film Grant, which awards $3000 to an LGBTQ+ identifying filmmaker to make a short film. Actor Renuka Shahane will support two runners-up.

The narrative jury features actor Shishir Sharma, actor and TV host Shruti Seth and filmmaker Tanuja Chandra, who will adjudge best narrative feature and shorts, best screenplay and best performance awards. These categories receive backing from Taiwanese streaming platform GagaOoLala, production house Samruddhi Studios and actor Abhay Kulkarni.

Documentary filmmakers Bishaka Dutta, Prateek Vats and Shubhra Chatterjee comprise the documentary jury, selecting winners of the unity in diversity documentary feature and short awards, supported by K.F. Patil Charitable Trust.

The trailer of the upcoming streaming series ‘Dil Dosti Dilemma’ was unveiled on Tuesday, which introduces the viewers to the character of Asmara played by Anushka Sen.

Asmara is a witty and charming young girl from a privileged family in Bengaluru, who is excited to spend her summer holidays in Canada.

However, her plans take an unexpected turn when she ends up at Tibbri Road, the middle-class neighbourhood of her maternal grandparents.

After the tremendous success of the film at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival, Nandita Das’s highly-anticipated film Manto releases this week on the 21st of September.

At special screenings that were arranged for B-town folks the rave reviews continued with praise of the brilliant narrative and stupendous performances by the actors, especially Nawazuddin Siddiqui who portrays the titular role of Saadat Hasan Manto. Here’s what they had to say:

Imtiaz Ali: Nawazuddin is always good. I think he has got a lot of perception and sensitivity into the character of Manto.

Rahul Bose: Nawazuddin is the soul of the film.

Shruti Seth: He looks exactly and portrays the character with so much sincerity.

Sobhita Dhulipala: To watch Manto is very overwhelming.

Mita Vashisht: Manto is not an easy role but Nawazuddin owns it and lived up to the expectations.

Watching Dharmendra in Second Hand Husband left me shaken and shocked. I was not able to review the movie, simply because there was nothing in the movie to write that was in anyway imaginative or worthy of this being called a motion picture. What stunned me into disbelief was the fact that Dharmendra was being ridiculed on screen.

Do we blame the director or the actor for picking up a role like this? When I mentioned this to an actor from the industry and my plight on the review, he responded, "What can be so worse than to have a film so wretched that it's not even worth a review."

Those few lines summed up the movie for me. Die-hard Dharam fans will vouch for the fact that he was better than even Rajesh Khanna and Dev Anand during his prime years. Why this now? I'm sure he can stay...

New Delhi, Sep 8: Actress-video jockey Shruti Seth says she gives preference to the people that she will work with more than the content of projects offered to her.

She has been part of shows like "Shararat", "Des Mein Niklla Hoga Chand" and "Kyun Hota Hai Pyarrr".

"For me, the people I work with is more important. Even if the content is good and the people that I will be working with are not good, then I will not accept the show," Shruti told Ians.

"It shouldn't be like I am working somewhere and the environment is not good and I feel 'Why the hell am I here'. While doing TV shows, an actor spends 14 to 16.

New Delhi, Feb 10: Yrf Television came out with an interesting bouquet of shows on the small screen and "Rishta.com" was one of them. Shruti Seth, who played the female lead in the serial, says that despite being well-conceptualised, it didn't get the kind of TRPs they were hoping for.

"I had a great time working on 'Rishta.com'. For me, it has been the most wonderful and satisfying piece of work. Even though it did not pay off in terms of TRPs, I really enjoyed," Shruti told Ians.

"Sadly, the show did not get the numbers we were hoping for. People complain that there is no good TV, but that is because people don't watch good TV,".

New Delhi, Jan 28: Actress Shruti Seth, who often hosts TV shows as well as award functions, admits she loves achoring. She says there isn't anything more satisfactory than to interact with a live audience.

"The best part about anchoring is that I get to be me as opposed to playing a character in a show or film," Shruti told Ians.

The 35-year-old has hosted different seasons of humour-based show "Comedy Circus", and she has earlier worked as a video jockey for the show "Junglee Jukebox".

New Delhi, Jan 21: Actress Shruti Seth, best remembered as Jia, the girl with magical powers in the TV show "Shararat", says Indian television shows are clones of each other.

"I see Indian television (shows) as just a bunch of clones. All the shows, characters and stories are just the same. They look same and the dialogues are also same at

times," Shruti told Ians.

She is on the lookout for "something different".

"On TV, I can't tell the difference between any two actors. They are doing the same thing and wearing the same clothes, which is is very unfortunate," said actress, who also featured in shows like "Des Mein.

New Delhi, 20 Jan: The petite and chirpy actress Shruti Seth, who is active in TV and films, says the role she played in "Raajneeti" is her favourite because it shocked many.

Often seen as pretty faced good girl, her "Raajneeti" role was quite a long take-off. She featured as a party worker who was ready to go to any length to get a ticket to contest election.

"Among all my film roles, 'Raajneeti' remains my favourite. It was a complete departure from the kind of work I have earlier done," Shruti told Ians.

Bangalore, April 16: Shruti Seth, best known for soaps like ‘Shararat’ and ‘Rishtaa.com’ is going to work as a lead in a film directed be her husband Danish Aslam. She also clarifies along with that she is not going to do daily soaps any more. When being asked about it, the actress replied that she found daily soaps to be unrealistic mentioning the fact that one does see people crying all the time in real life. She also said that if the face of Indian daily soaps change in the future or it offers something interesting other than the normal routine, she might have a thought of doing the soaps again.

So we jump straight into My Friend Pinto and as far as the story goes, the main one [yes, there are more than one] is about Michael Pinto [Prateik Babbar], a Goan lad that has his world shaken up because his dear mother has passed away. So sad. But wait, there is a bright side. With no-one else to turn to, Pinto decides to go the big, bad city of Mumbai in search of his childhood friend Sameer urff(aka) Sam [Arjun Mathur]. Along the way, he saves the life of a Mallu Don [Makrand Deshpande], saves a dog that is given to said Don’s muse [Divya Dutta] but loses his wallet in the process, and basically becomes a magnet for trouble, all in one night. Throw in a few life lessons, a cute aspiring dancer/ladylove named Maggie [Kalki Koechlin] and a few songs and voila, you have a light hearted giggle-a-thon. Not exactly.

Sometime noble intentions are not enough to make an impact on the big screen.

'Zindagi khwab hai khwab mein sach hai kya aur bhala jhooth hai kya?' Remember Motilal's staggering existentialism in 1956's 'Jagte Raho'? Some such philosophy underlines the key goings-on in 'My Friend Pinto' -- a wispy, nostalgic comedy about a Goan simpleton's one night of zany adventures in the mad mad bustle of Mumbai during New Year's eve.

This isn't the first film that explores Mumbai by.

Set for release on October 14th, the comedy My Friend Pinto stars Prateik Babbar, Kalki Koechlin, Arjun Mathur, Shruti Seth, Makrand Deshpande, Raj Zutshi & Divya Dutta. Talking about the film. writer and director Raaghav Dar said, “Earlier, films worldwide used to be about simple people. Now we tend to make films on people who are extremely complex and larger-than-life. But life can often be much simpler than that. I just tried to capture that innocence and sweetness of that bygone era in a very contemporary vision.”

In the film Pratiek plays somewhat of an Charlie Chaplain nice, even innocent guy who gets in all sorts of trouble with out even trying type character. Dar says, “In our films, nice guys always finish last. I always wonder why he can’t finish first. The film is about a common man who is sidelined but is still important.”
