Jenna Ortega Earns Fans’ Respect For Her James Bond Comments While Zoe Saldaña Gets Criticised For Wanting to Make Her Directorial Debut in $7.8 B Franchise
Image
Jenna Ortega and Zoe Saldaña have sparked contrasting reactions from fans. Saldaña recently expressed her ambition to direct an action film, specifically suggesting her interest in the James Bond franchise, noting the lack of female directors in the series.

Ortega, however, has championed the idea of creating original female-led stories rather than reimagining existing franchises with female leads, leading discussion among fans, who have applauded Ortega’s stance on fresh narratives while criticizing Saldaña’s desire to break new ground in a major franchise.

Zoe Saldaña Expressed Her Desire to Break New Ground in Directing

Zoe Saldana has recently expressed her wish to helm an action movie, potentially even a James Bond film, arguing that she has never seen a woman direct a single film in the franchise. The actress joined the Toronto International Film Festival for her new movie, Emilia Pérez.

Little Women Review
Little Women is a paradox. It’s a movie that is so warm, so innocent and so full of life that you leave excited for whatever comes next in your own. Yet it’s also a movie that makes our everyday lives look boring by comparison. The world outside the theater can’t compare to Greta Gerwig’s beautiful adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s wonderful novel.

The eighth version of the American classic is a return to the book’s roots. The time is the 19th century and the place is Massachusetts. A Civil War looms just beyond the woods. It’s a war that leaves the March girls without their dad (Bob Odenkirk) and without money. But the girls are rich in spirit, with a courteous glow that extends to everything around them.

Autumn leaves and golden hour light shower the countryside. Jo March (Saoirse Ronan) is running...

‘Tomb Raider’ Trailer & Poster Released
The reboot of ‘Tomb Raider‘ has finally released it’s first trailer! Directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave), the trailer seems to focus heavily on the action. It’s really something that feels more akin to the more recent, action packed Tomb raider video games, rather than her early ones. The casting of Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) seems akin to this new direction, as the film follows a younger Laura Croft this time around.

Here’s the first official trailer:

Written by Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel), the reboot also stars Dominic West, Walton Goggins, and Daniel Wu. Surely Warner Brothers is hoping that this film will be the start of a new franchise, but the trio of Vikander, Robertson-Dworet, and Uthaug all prove to be untested when it comes to these types of movies. So it’ll be interesting to see how this film plays out when it’s released.

What Might Make ‘Need for Speed’ Different From Other Video Game Movies
When Need for Speed was announced, it was mildly confounding. It makes sense in a world where Fast and Furious has become a billion dollar franchise, but, from a storytelling perspective, not so much. If you’re not sure why that is, you likely never played the video game series, which doesn’t have an actual narrative. Unless building up toward better cars counts as plot. That’s actually one of the few ties the movie will have to the game. If it were called anything other than Need for Speed, it wouldn’t raise an eyebrow as a potential game rip-off. This may come as a surprise, but that’s a good thing, for a variety reasons. Disney recently held a press day for director Scott Waugh‘s (Act of Valor) video game adaptation, and while in attendance, screenwriter John Gatins (Flight), who cracked the story with his brother and the film’s writer George Gatins made...

Watch the Tomb Raider Fan Film Croft
Angelina Jolie in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001)
After getting a video game facelift, Laura Croft and Tomb Raider landed at MGM Studios for a complete theatrical reboot, which is still moving forward, though somewhat slowly. We have not heard any more about the continuing adventures of Croft since March of this year. Who will take over for Angelina Jolie in playing her on screen? And who might be writing and/or directing? This morning, filmmaker Trevor Addie (Kill Switch) and his writing partner Irma Leong (Warm Bodies) throw their hats into the ring with a new 20-minute action-packed fan film that is making waves across the Internet. Croft follows a woman who risks everything to save a young girl held hostage in the mountains by a group of mercenaries, and is loosely based on the popular reboot of the video game series, simply titled Tomb Raider, which arrived from Square Enix on March 5, 2013. Watch as Cassandra Ebner...

The Man Who Wrote That Superman Movie Everyone Hates On Why Video Game Movies Are Horrible (And Makes Some Very Valid Points)
David S Goyer is the guy who penned the script for "Man of Steel", which many people did not like. Though he also wrote the screenplay for "The Dark Knight Rises", which more people liked. Turns out, he also wrote a pair of video games, "Call of Duty: Black Ops" and its sequel.

Which is why, given how his resume includes both films and games, he might be somewhat qualified to comment on why video game movies are so awful. And his take on the matter actually make a whole lot of sense.

According to an interview with Digital Spy, Goyer also points out certain advantages that video games have over motion pictures as well:

"I think the reason is actually pretty simple: most good video games are about immersive environments. If it's a first-person shooter you are the character. Most games, and this is changing, tend not to have strong characters.

Due in early 2014, it's being brought to you in part by Gail Simone, one of the biggest comic scribes in the business today. Kotaku recently spoke with her about her upcoming book and much is revealed. Including how she's a fairly hardcore gamer; her collection includes a mint condition Vectrex.

Capcom's 'Remember Me' June Release Announcement Yields A New Trailer
The Dontnod-developed futuristic action game is coming to consoles and the PC on June 4, and Capcom is taking you to New Paris of 2084 in this great-looking and terribly narrated story trailer.

Seriously, he sounds like an alarm company pitch man or something.

From the official synopsis:

Neo-Paris. 2084.

Personal memories can now be digitized, bought, sold and traded. The last remnants of privacy and intimacy have been swept away in what appears to be a logical progression of the explosive growth of social networks at the beginning of the 21st century. The citizens themselves have accepted this surveillance society in exchange for the comfort only smart technology can provide. This memory economy gives immense power over society to just a handful of people.

Remember Me is a 3rd person action adventure where players take on the role of Nilin, a former elite memory hunter with the ability to break into people...

'Tomb Raider' Devs Explain Why The Game Needs Multiplayer Modes
By Joseph Leray

"We don't have to have multiplayer to have a successful single-player,” Eidos Montreal’s Daniel Bisson told Eurogamer recently. “It’s not critical to do that.”

And yet, the new "Tomb Raider" game, published by Square Enix and coming out in March, has several multiplayer modes. Crystal Dynamics is handling the single-player campaign while Bisson’s team at Eidos Montreal is developing the game’s team deathmatch and survival multiplayer modes.

Bisson explained that the success of Laura Croft and the "Guardian of Light," 2010’s co-operative entry into the Tomb Raider franchise is partly responsible. “When [Crystal Dynamics] were doing it, people were asking why … They stuck to their guns and they ended up with something pretty successful, and that was pretty good,” Bisson says. Guardian of Light emboldened the team, pushing them to try new things with the long-running series.

Bisson’s own selfishness also helped push the multiplayer mode through development,...

Tomb Raider 2 Already In The Works?
Is Crystal Dynamics already planning Tomb Raider 2? The Lara Croft reboot is currently scheduled for a early 2013 release date, but it appears the development team is in the beginning of stages of a potential sequel.

Crystal Dynamic global brand director Karl Steward was talking about Tomb Raider in a recent interview with Videogamer and was hinting a potential second installment was already in the works.

“I have to be careful because I know exactly where she’s going… You have to look at the future, you have to look at where… It’s not just one game,”

”At the end of this game we want her to be that strong female character that is willing to go and seek out mysteries and seek out tombs. She’s going to be going to plenty of tombs in this game, but we’re going to have somebody who wants to go on that adventure,...

Simon West to Direct The Expendables 2
After all that talk of whether Sylvester Stallone would be returning to the director’s chair for The Expendables 2 or not, it looks like Simon West (The Mechanic) will be taking the reins this time around. Deadline reports that, after a long search, West has been given the job of overseeing the flick, which centers on a bunch of guys killing people. West is no stranger to action flicks, as his filmography includes Con Air, Laura Croft: Tomb Raider, and The General’s Daughter. While Con Air has its cheesy charm, West hasn't really done anything that makes me think he's the right choice for Expendables 2. Stallone's work on the first flick wasn't especially mind-blowing, but he brought a certain seriousness that grounded the ridiculous action in reality. I can't really see West bringing anything interesting to the material, but maybe he'll surprise. While nothing’s confirmed, the...

Angelina Jolie — who brought the iconic action starlet to life — has previously said she wasn’t interested in a third movie, so who has the acting chops and stellar figure to fill out the famous tank top and shorts of Lara Croft?

We put together a list of girls that we think could do Lara justice. They need to be toned, bodacious, and bad ass! This is a role for an action star and we can’t wait to see which brunette beauty will have what it takes to follow the footsteps of Angelina and establish themselves of...

‘Holly’s World’ Recap: Jayde Corrupts Laura While Josh’s Music Corrupts Our Eardrums!
We don’t know what’s worse: Jayde’s attitude or Josh’s song!

It looks like loyalties are being broken on the Feb. 21 episode of Holly’s World!

Laura Croft took a break from time spent lying in the sun doing nothing to take a photo shoot opportunity with group frenemy Jayde Nicole. Details on the gig are sketchy — especially considering Jayde doesn’t really know what the business is about minus a dubious combination of online poker, lingerie, the internet and other stuff. Laura plays detective for much of the episode, trying to deduce the business plan. But she can only come to the conclusion that it involves “hot, sexy lingerie, drinking and lots of money,” so of course she’s in.

Meanwhile, Josh Strickland is recording the Worst song ever, but he is super-proud. He even brings Holly Madison in to do breathy female vocals, inching his...

Meanwhile, Josh Strickland is seeing a therapist! Poor boy, we hope he’s doing okay. But do you know what’s Not okay? Hanging out with Holly’s worst enemy Jayde Nicole. Laura Croft went out for drinks with Jayde and Holly is furious about it. Holly ends the episode by saying, “I need to have a talk with her. I Hate Jayde!”

Pics: Holly Madison, Jonathan Ross and More Dressing Up for Halloween
Big stars were surely into Halloween holiday. Celebrities like Holly Madison and Jonathan Ross threw their own Halloween parties and invited pals to come along during the festivity. Holly held a bash at Studio 54 in MGM Grand Resort and Casino in Las Vegas while Jonathan held a party at his home in North London.

At the Las Vegas celebration, Holly dressed as Princess Aurora from "Sleeping Beauty" in a pink dress, putting on red stilettos and a gold tiara. Laura Croft, Angel Porrino and Josh Strickland were spotted attending Holly's party. While Holly dressed as Princess Aurora, Laura donned Belle-looked-liked outfit from "Beauty and the Beast". Angel and Josh opted to sport polecat and pirate costumes respectively.

Jonathan's bash was merry also. For the occasion, the British actor transformed himself into a devil, painting his face in red and completing his spooky look with two red horns attached on his forehead.

Jan De Bont Tackles 'Mulan'
There's a live action "Mulan" that's currently in pre-production with Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi attached to star. Since they've lined up a lead actress, it's time to go and wrangle up a director. That's where Jan de Bont comes in, the same director who put together "Speed" and "Laura Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life". Ziyi stars as the young heroine who ends up joining an all-male army. The script was written by John Blickstead and is set to start filming this fall near Shanghai.  Those locked in to produce this feature include Ron Lynch, Steven Waterman, Mark Phillips and Christopher Brough. You've seen Ziyi in quite a few films during the past decade between "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon", "2046", "Memoirs of a Geisha" and "Hero".Right now they're currently casting the rest of the supporting roles for the production. No word on when they predict to get this film out in theaters.

Salt (2009)
With age, Angelina Jolie has acquired a certain attributable nuance and sophistication that until recently would have been thought impossible from such an archetypal anti-feminist signature of adolescent male fantasy. Excepting her performance in 1999′s “Girl, Interrupted” this mysterious icon of sexuality has made a career of adding the superficial sexual sparks to action films targeted at young male audiences like “Gone in 60 Seconds” and “Laura Croft: Tomb Raider.”

But with her much publicized humanitarian efforts, her domestic partnership with Brad Pitt and their adopted children and her increasingly scarce Megan Fox-style roles, Jolie has become something of an icon of new feminism — the idea of ultra-sexiness and self-objectification peacefully coexisting with self-reliance and the kicking of oppressive white male ass. Phillip Noyce’s “Salt” is the culmination of that persona representing a unique instance of perhaps the maturation of public perception and the relaxing of usually rigid social allowance — that is,...

Angelina Jolie - Is there an Action Star Like Her?
I saw the new Angelina Jolie film, Salt, this past Monday. This isn't a review so I won't critique the film other than to say if you like watching a sexy woman kick ass for ninety-five minutes you won't be disappointed. Jolie has said she wanted to play a female James Bond and this film may be the closest she'll ever get to it. Judging from what I saw last night, Angelina would have to tone it down a little to play Bond after her turn in Salt.

Kurt Wimmer originally scripted Salt for a male lead and at one point the filmmakers thought they had a commitment from Tom Cruise to play the title role. When Cruise dropped out Sony's Amy Pascal suggested Angelina and voila, Edwin Salt became Evelyn Salt. A lot of people thought Pascal was crazy at the time. Amy went from an idiot to an...

Flying into town after a trip to Brazil, Paris Hilton joined up alongside sister Nicky at Pure Nightclub in Las Vegas on Saturday night (June 12).

The hotel heiress siblings both looked darling with Paris clad in a classic little black dress while Nicky took over hosting duties donning a green and purple patterned number at the ritzy Sin City hotspot.

During the course of the evening, the Hilton gals took to the club's VIP section and enjoyed music spun by DJ Marshall Barnes as they sipped on Belvedere vodka cocktails and Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label champagne.

Also at Pure on Saturday night were Chicago Bears star Brian Urlacher, who came in with a few fellow football players, 2009 World Series of Poker champion Joe Cada who came in with a group of friends and Playboy playmate and "Holly's World" star Laura Croft.
