Shane Meadows, the much-celebrated director of the cult Brit indie drama “This Is England” and its TV sequels, has returned to the director’s chair for his first feature in more than a decade.

The filmmaker, known for his bold and emotionally-charged storytelling, has wrapped production on “Chork,” which he describes as a “runaway road trip” movie. The film was co-written by Meadow’s long-term collaborator Jack Thorne, with whom he penned the three “This is England” sequels and TV series “The Virtues”.

Produced by 42 and Unified alongside Meadows’ and Thorne’s own production companies and financed by BBC Film, BFI, Screen Yorkshire and Hoopsa Films, “Chork” is set to be released in U.K. and Irish cinemas in 2026 by Altitude, who are also handling international sales.

Tubi’s picked up the horror thriller Please Don’t Feed the Children and has set a Friday, June 27, 2025 streaming release. The film marks the feature directorial debut of Steven Spielberg’s daughter Destry Allyn Spielberg and stars Michelle Dockery and Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul).

The cast also includes Zoe Colletti (Only Murders In The Building), Andrew Liner (Ransom Canyon), Dean Scott Vazquez (Transformers: Rise of the Beasts) Regan Aliyah, Emma Meisel, Josh Melnick (Saint X), and Vernon Davis (A Day To Die).

When I saw on Deadline that filming has wrapped on an action thriller called Turbulence, my first thought was, “Is it a remake?” This despite the fact that there have been multiple films with the title Turbulence over the years. I thought it might have something to do with the 1997 film with the title, which starred Lauren Holly as a flight attendant stuck on a plane with a serial killer played by Ray Liotta. As it turns out, the new Turbulence doesn’t have anything to do with that franchise… but it is a hot air balloon thriller that stars Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier), so it might make for an interesting viewing experience.

Exclusive: Filming has wrapped in the UK on under-the-radar action-thriller Turbulence, starring Olga Kurylenko (Oblivion), Jeremy Irvine (Treadstone), Hera Hilmar (See) and Kelsey Grammer (Frasier).

The film reunites the team behind 2024 action film No Way Up, including director Claudio Faeh (Northmen: A Viking Saga) and writer Andy Mayson, who also produces.

The synopsis reads: “Young married couple Zach and Emmy decide to take a hot air balloon trip across the Italian Dolomites to rekindle their relationship. When they and pilot Harry are joined by a third passenger, Julia, events unfold in ways they could never imagine five thousand meters in the air.”

The film was shot on location in the Dolomites and London, with studio shooting at Twickenham studios. It is now in post-production.

Exclusive: Nick Hamm’s action-packed adaptation William Tell, starring Claes Bang and Golshifteh Farahani, has sold to the UK & Ireland and Germany-speaking territories ahead of its world premiere in Toronto next week.

Munich-based sales company Beta Cinema unveiled the all-rights deals to Altitude (UK & Ireland) and SquareOne Entertainment for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, following the film’s well-attended press and industry screening in Toronto on Thursday.

Both distributors are targeting a release date in Q1 2025.

Beta Cinema has already announced deals with Sf Studios, Beta Fiction (Spain), Eagle Pictures (Italy), Dutch Filmworks (Benelux), Pris Audiovisuais (Portugal), Monolith Films (Poland), Cinemart (Czech Republic), Blitz (Former Yugoslavia), Ads (Hungary and Romania), Beta Film (Bulgaria), Tfg (Greece), Ukraine (Top Film) and The Plot Pictures (Middle East & Turkey) earlier this year.

Director Hamm’s adaptation of Friedrich Schiller’s classic play is fresh out of post-production.

The film will world premiere in Toronto as a Gala Presentation next week and will then make its European presentation at the Zurich Film Festival in October. Beta Cinema handles international rights, alongside WME Independent who represent domestic rights.

Filming is underway in London on In the Shadows, starring BAFTA-winning actor Jasmine Jobson in the biopic about female boxing champion Ramla Ali.

Jobson recently won big at the television awards for her role in Top Boy. She plays Ali, a woman who secretly pursued her dream to become the first Somali-British professional boxing champion.

Alongside Jobson stars Finn Cole (Peaky Blinders, Last Breath) as her husband, Richard Moore, while Gershwyn Eustache Jr (Andor, Small Axe, Fortitude) plays Ali’s boxing coach. The real-life couple of Ali and Moore serve as executive producers.

“At its heart, In the Shadows is a unique love story woven into a rich family drama that showcases the challenges and triumphs of Ramla and Richard, a mixed-race couple,” a plot synopsis reads. “As they navigate racial and cultural barriers, their shared strength and mutual support sets them apart as role models for a new generation.

BAFTA-winning “Top Boy” star Jasmine Jobson — recently seen in Andrea Arnold’s Cannes-bowing “Bird” — is set to play trailblazing Somali-British professional boxer, model and Unicef Ambassador Ramla Ali in “In the Shadows.” She takes over from Letitia Wright, who was attached when the project was first announced last year.

Filming has now begun in London on the feature, which will also star Finn Cole (“Last Breath,” “Peaky Blinders,” “Fast & Furious 9”) as Ali’s husband, Richard Moore, while Gershwyn Eustache Jr (“Andor,” “Small Axe,” “Fortitude”) plays her boxing coach.

“In the Shadows” will mark the narrative feature debut of Emmy Award and three-time BAFTA-winning documentarian Anthony Wonke. Aude Hesbert, presently director of the French cultural agency Villa Albertine in Los Angeles, will take over as both artistic director of the Deauville American Film Festival and managing director of cinema communications and events outfit Le Public Système Cinema.

The move comes after Le Public Systeme’s longtime leader and Deauville artistic director Bruno Barde was ousted from his position following accusations of sexual misconduct by seven former female employees.

Hesbert will also head up the crime thriller festival Reims Polar and Gérardmer International Fantasy Film Festival, which are run by Le Public Systeme, parent company Hopscotch has confirmed.

IATSE members have ratified the three-year Hollywood Basic Agreement and Area Standards Agreement tentatively struck last month with Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).

The union, which represents around 170,000 technicians and craftspeople in film and television in North America, said on Thursday that 85.9% of members voted in favour of approving the Hollywood Basic, while 87.2% voted in favour of approving the Area Standards Agreement.

Both contracts come into effect on August 4 and run through 2027.

Mubi has snapped up rights across multiple territories on Made In England: The Films Of Powell And Pressburger, the Martin Scorsese-narrated doc set to debut this week at the Berlin Film Festival.

Under the deal, the global film distributor, production company, and streaming service will retain all rights in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, France, Belgium, Netherlands, Luxembourg, Latam, Turkey and India. Altitude is releasing in UK and Irish cinema on May 10.

The deal was done between Altitude and Mubi. The streamer said it will announce specific details about the doc’s release in the coming months.

Release plans for the survival thriller No Way Up have not yet been announced, but Altitude has gone ahead and shared a trailer for the film, and you can check it out in the embed above.

Exclusive: A modern TV series remake of The Wombles is in the works with Ipcress File producer Altitude Television.

The TV arm of Altitude Media Group is forging a fresh version of the beloved animated British family series about a secretive group of furry creatures who live beneath Wimbledon Common, which is being co-produced with The Wombles production house and written by How to Train Your Dragon’s Will Davies.

Based on Elisabeth Beresford’s children’s novels, the stop-motion show ran in the mid-70s on the BBC featuring the voice of Bernard Cribbins, was remade in the mid-90s for ITV and remastered earlier this year as it turned 50. Altitude didn’t elaborate further on how it will be modernizing the classic.

French sales powerhouse company Wild Bunch International (Wbi) and Studiocanal UK have embarked on a legal battle in the U.K. High Court over rights to Studio Ghibli films in the territory.

Studiocanal UK has taken issue with the 2019 Netflix deal brokered by Wbi giving the platform worldwide streaming rights to much of the Studio Ghibli catalogue.

In a legal claim filed on November 3, the company says the accord had impacted its ability to exploit 15 Studio Ghibli titles in the U.K., included in a home entertainment deal signed in 2015, and renewed in 2017.

The 2019 Netflix deal for worldwide rights (excluding North America and Japan) to 21 Studio Ghibli titles was seen as ground-breaking at that time.

Up until that point, Studio Ghibli films had only been available theatrically and then via DVD, Blu-Ray, or terrestrial broadcast, because co-founders Hayao Miyazaki, late Isao Takahata and Toshio Suzuki had refused to sell the digital rights on a territory-by-territory basis.

A new feature documentary backed by Red Bull will examine the historic journey of the first human-powered aircraft to fly the English Channel.

“The Flight of Bryan,” which is being introduced to buyers by Altitude Film Sales at this week’s American Film Market, tells the true story of self-taught U.S. hang glider pilot Bryan Allen, who flew his pedal-powered aircraft, the Gossamer Albatross, across the waterway connecting Britain and France in 1979.

The journey came two years after Allen made his first human-powered aircraft flight in Shafter, California, piloting his airplane to a speed of roughly 11 miles per hour and producing just under 0.5 horsepower.

The film, which is in post-production, is directed by James Erskine, who previously collaborated with Altitude on “Billie,” a 2019 documentary about American singer Billie Holliday.

The pic is produced by Alex Holmes, Victoria Gregory, Sean Sorenson, Philip Manderla and Adele Reeves.

Altitude has boarded feature doc Mad About The Boy – The Noël Coward Story, a chronicle of the playwright, director and wit’s life which is being produced by Barnaby Thompson for Fragile Films and Gregor Cameron for Unigram.

Altitude is handling international sales and UK and Irish distribution.

Coward is known for his films, stage plays and musicals including Brief Encounter, Blithe Spirit and Private Lives.

The documentary is written and directed by Thompson, whose credits include St Trinians and Pixie. Cameron’s credits include Kill Your Friends.

Altitude has picked up international sales and UK and Irish distribution rights to Mad About the Boy — The Noël Coward Story, a feature documentary about the life of Noël Coward from Barnaby Thompson (St. Trinian’s).

The doc is billed as an exploration of Coward’s expansive career which features credits across the stage and screen, including Brief Encounter, Blithe Spirit, and Private Lives.

Adam Lambert will sing the film’s theme song, an updated cover of Coward’s 1930’s single Mad About The Boy, which will be released on 7 October. The song was produced by Amanda Ghost and Johnny Coffer.

“Noël Coward was a fascinating character. He invented the modern Englishman – witty, sophisticated, and stylish – but was born poor and left school when he was 9,” Thompson said. “He was a sex symbol who was queer in a very straight world and he was exiled from the country he came to define.

Altitude Film Distribution has taken UK and Ireland rights for Chloé Zhao’s The Rider, which won the top prize in this year’s Cannes Directors’ Fortnight sidebar.

The deal was struck between Altitude’s Will Clarke and Vanessa Saal from sales outfit Protagonist Pictures.

The Rider was previously picked up for by Sony Pictures Classics for North America, Latin America, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Eastern Europe.

Altitude has picked up UK rights from Protagonist Pictures to Sean Baker’s coming of age drama The Florida Project, which receives its world premiere in Cannes 2017 Directors’ Fortnight.

The film is co-written with frequent collaborator Chris Bergoch (Tangerine).

The film stars Willem Dafoe, Caleb Landry Jones and newcomers Brooklynn Prince and Bria Vinaite in the story about a precocious six-year-old and her rag-tag group of close friends whose summer break is filled with childhood wonder, possibility and a sense of adventure, while the adults around them struggle with hard times.

The film is produced by Sean Baker, Chris Bergoch, Kevin Chinoy, Andrew Duncan, Alex Saks, Francesca Silvestri and Shih Ching Tsou.

Radcliffe, who was recently in Swiss Army Man and Now You See Me 2 will portray the main character Miles. Altitude Film Distribution has acquired UK distribution rights to A Prayer Before Dawn, Jean-Stephane Sauvaire’s Muay Thai boxing thriller that stars 2011 Screen Star of Tomorrow Joe Cole (Peaky Blinders, Green Room).

The film is set to premiere at Cannes Film Festival next month as part of the Midnight Screenings programme.

Screenplay is by Jonathan Hirschbein and Nick Saltrese and is from Billy Moore’s book, which is based on his own experiences.

This is director Sauvaire’s second feature after Johnny Mad Dog, which premiered at Cannes in 2008.

The UK-France co-pro was produced by Rita Dagher’s Senorita Films along with Nicholas Simon, Sol Papadopoulos and Roy Boulter.

After the events of The 100 Season 4 Episode 4, it seemed that a fight between the grounders and Skaikru was virtually unavoidable. Echo had successfully convinced Roan that Clarke and the others were working against him, only hoping to ensure the survival of their own.
