Eric Bana in Untamed (2025)
The #1 Series on Netflix Is a Riveting Whodunnit: “Immediately hooked… highly recommended.”
Eric Bana in Untamed (2025)
How would you like the chance to escape into an engaging crime thriller series that features the added bonus of breathtaking cinematography guaranteed to transport you to an idyllic and scenic landscape? Are you sold yet? If not, allow me to sweeten the deal even more. The series in question also features an all-star cast and a twisty narrative with which fans and critics alike are connecting.

Better yet, the series sits as the most-watched program on the Netflix platform today! Millions of subscribers cannot possibly be wrong, can they? I mean, I guess it’s technically possible, but that’s highly unlikely.

The program that I so mysteriously speak of is the limited series Untamed. The setup for the program is this: In the vast expanse of Yosemite National Park, a woman’s death draws a federal agent into lawless terrain, where nature obeys no rules but its own.

What Untamed's Viewership Success Means Untamed Proves The Taylor Sheridan Formula Works

Netflix announces the Untamed season 2 news we totally saw coming
Image
Untamed simply can't be tamed! The mystery thriller series debuted on July 17 on Netflix and took off like wildfire, reaching the top 10 in multiple countries and staying put at No. 1 on the most popular shows ranking in the United States for over a week. The show's debut ratings, which reached an impressive mark of 24.6 million views, we clearly enough to warrant a quick renewal.

On July 29, less than two weeks since the series premiered, Netflix revealed that Untamed season 2 was officially renewed! The series, which was originally designated as a limited series, attracted enough of an audience (and then some) for Netflix to renew the series from American Primeval creator Mark L. Smith and his daughter Elle Smith. Another national park mystery is on the way!

Netflix's Ozark Replacement Show With 80% on Rt Gets an Unexpected Season 2 Renewal
Image
Netflix has just revealed the future of one of its most recent releases. Untamed premiered on the platform on Jul. 17, and has been a major hit ever since.

Not even two weeks since its debut, Netflix decided to bet on the series and has officially renewed Untamed for Season 2, as per an announcement on X. Considering how popular the murder mystery drama has been since its release, the decision is not as surprising. However, the show had been created as a limited series, and it had already wrapped all the loose ends in its six episodes.

The Fate of Eric Bana's New 'True Detective' Replacement Netflix Series Has Been Decided
Image
Although Eric Bana’s Special Agent Kyle Turner may have closed the case on the mysterious death of Lucy Cook (Ezra Franky), the case isn’t yet closed on Netflix’s breakaway crime drama, Untamed. Today, the streamer announced that its latest title to take off like wildfire has been renewed for a second season. At this point, it isn’t clear whether Bana or other characters from the debut season will return or if the production will take on a similar layout to True Detective and move into anthology territory. We can presume that the next chapter will take us to a different National Park and away from the towering granite cliffs of Yosemite in California’s Sierra Nevada region, but aside from that, there’s a lot up in the air. Still, those who flocked to the incredibly bingeable six-episode series will be happy to know that there...

‘Untamed’ Renewed For Season 2 At Netflix
Image
Untamed will back for another season. Netflix revealed Tuesday it has renewed the series, starring Eric Bana, for a second season.

Written by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, Untamed is a character-driven mystery-thriller that follows Kyle Turner (Bana), a special agent for the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. The investigation of a brutal death sends Turner on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past.

Sam Neill and Rosemarie DeWitt also starred in Season 1.

In Season 2, Bana returns to investigate a new mystery. At the end of Season 1, Turner finally left Yosemite National Park and hit the road, letting go of years of emotional baggage he had stored in the park’s wilderness.

Image
Despite initially being made and marketed as a limited series, Netflix has now renewed its new crime thriller show for a second season. Released on the streamer earlier this month, Untamed introduces audiences to Eric Bana as Kyle Turner, a special agent for the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (Isb) who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. Suddenly, the investigation of a brutal death sends him down a path that will force him to face the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past. While the intention was for the series to last just the six episodes that are now available, the show has been at the top of the...

Naomi Scott's 86% Rotten Tomatoes Horror Sequel Is a Hit on Streaming

Horror fans are smiling. This past week, Netflix added to its catalog a horror movie that was a standout in movie theaters, and subscribers had been dying to watch it or give it a second viewing. The result was predictable: Smile 2is now among the top 10 most-watched movies on the streaming platform this week. This time, the story follows music superstar Skye Riley (Naomi Scott) as she gets hit with the curse that makes everyone around her do terrible things – all with a smile on their faces.

Back when the first movie premiered in 2022, the concept of Smilewas already sinister enough. In the sequel, however, director and screenwriter Parker Finn (Smile) found a way to make it even more disturbing, with some death scenes that viewers will remember forever. One of them involves Lukas Gage (Companion) and a weight plate in a scene that you have to see to believe.

‘Percy Jackson’ Star Reveals the Most Important Thing She Shares With Her Beloved Character [Exclusive]

Walker Scobell isn’t the only one going through big changes in Season 2 of Percy Jackson & the Olympians. The second season of the Disney+ series based on Rick Riordan’s popular book series is expanding its perspectives for Percy’s quest to save his best friend, and Leah Sava Jeffries’ Annabeth is getting a chance to shine.

At Collider’s Sdcc studio with her co-stars, Jeffries revealed that Annabeth’s Season 2 journey greatly mirrors her own changes as an actor, coming into the industry with more confidence. In Season 1, Annabeth is skeptical of Percy, having lost her friend Thalia (Tamara Smart) at a young age when she arrived at Camp Half-Blood. Now, however, after having survived a nearly deadly quest to retrieve Zeus’s master bolt, she and Percy are on more equal footing and more open with each other — something Jeffries told Perri Nemiroff she really relates to:

‘And Just Like That’ Writers Expect a Big Reaction to That Episode
Image
[This story contains major spoilers from season three, episode nine of And Just Like That, “Present Tense.”]

And Just Like That duo Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky were bracing themselves for the fan reaction when they spoke to The Hollywood Reporter ahead of this week’s episode.

That’s because the writers, executive producers and longtime collaborators on the HBO Max revival series co-wrote the ninth episode of season three, “Present Tense,” that released on Thursday — the episode that just broke up Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Aidan (John Corbett) for the third time.

This time, it’s really over. And Just Like That even licensed “How Did It End?” to drive home that point in the final moments. “We wouldn’t pull that Taylor Swift song out for just anything,” Rottenberg tells THR, pleased about Swift approving the use of her The Tortured Poets Department: The Anthology hit (the singer-songwriter’s own breakup song, rumored to be about ex Joe Alwyn...

Untamed Season 2 Future Is Promising, Creator Hints At One Direction For Netflix's Hit Crime Series

Eric Bana on ‘Untamed,’ the Finale’s ‘Great…Twist’ and the Possibility of a Season 2
Image
Spoiler Alert: This interview contains major spoilers from “Untamed,” now streaming on Netflix.

Eric Bana wouldn’t mind a change of pace in his more than 30-year career.

Known for high-stakes drama and action movies such as “Black Hawk Down,” “Troy,” “Hulk” and “Munich,” most don’t know — or have forgotten — that the 56-year-old actor started in comedy.

Along with starring in the sketch comedy series “Full Frontal” in the mid-1990s in his native Australia, he also hosted a short-lived talk show, “The Eric Bana Show Live.”

“Most of what I get sent is quite dark and dramatic, and I’ve really enjoyed doing the lighter stuff when it comes along,” Bana tells me during an appearance on the “Just for Variety” podcast. “So it would be fun to do more lighthearted stuff for sure, but it doesn’t grow on trees on my desk. There’s a lot of darkness on my desk.

Untamed (TV Mini Series 2025) ‘Netflix’ Recap & Ending Explained – Who Killed Lucy Cook?
Image
Created by Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith, “Untamed” (TV Mini Series 2025) diligently checks off the noir-ish modern detective mystery tropes. Barring an electrifying opening scene, it does not stand apart as a police procedural. What the Netflix mini-series does excel at, and thus significantly elevates its status, is exalting its unique setting—a murder mystery at Yosemite National Park. Boosted by a solid cast, which is led by an earnestly committed Eric Bana, the show astutely takes the chance to shine in Yosemite National Park’s reflected glory. With its mountains, greenery, and fauna, the National Park’s towering presence becomes a pivotal character in the story, not just a backdrop. And it works wonders for the mini-series. So much so, we would not mind a second instalment.

Untamed (TV Mini Series 2025) ‘Netflix’ Recap:

“Untamed” starts with a thrilling scene where a couple of rock climbers discover...

‘Untamed’ Review: Eric Bana Squanders Grand Terrain in Netflix’s Tedious, Yosemite-Set Mystery
Image
Early in their investigation into the death of an unidentified woman, Isb officer Kyle Turner (Eric Bana) and park ranger Naya Vasquez (Lily Santiago) discover a few clues in an eerie abandoned shed. There’s a bloody rope laying on the floor, a footprint on the door, and fresh carvings in the rickety wooden walls. Kyle bags the evidence, photographs the etchings, and the two exchange theories about what may have happened here. Then, as Naya heads back outside, a bear slams into the door. Naya falls down as the bear bangs on the thin wood separating it from its prey, roaring in sudden, vicious fury. She scrambles for her sidearm, but Kyle already has gun out. He fires two shots into the air, and the bear runs off.

Not long after that random disturbance, Kyle reminds his rookie colleague that her new gig isn’t like any work she did in the big city.

Untamed Review: A Man, a Mountain, and a Murder
Image
There are few television openings more likely to induce a cold sweat than the first three minutes of Untamed. Two climbers inch their way up the sheer granite face of Yosemite’s El Capitan, the ground a terrifying memory thousands of feet below. The tension is already unbearable. Then a body plummets from the summit, a horrifying human pendulum that becomes tangled in their ropes.

It is a visceral, stomach-lurching start to a series that, while set in one of America’s most beautiful places, is far more interested in the ugly secrets people bring with them. Into this chaos rides Isb Special Agent Kyle Turner (Eric Bana), a man whose stony disposition rivals the monolith at the center of his crime scene. The series quickly establishes itself as a wilderness thriller where the most dangerous predators walk on two legs.

'Untamed': New Netflix Crime Thriller Series First Reviews Praise Gripping Mystery
Image
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan has become a franchise all his own, with every streamer now looking to replicate the same success as Paramount. Well, Netflix may have gotten one step closer to doing just that, with the popular streamer's new crime thriller series, which has been likened to the gritty, sweeping drama of Yellowstone, as well as the same neo-western sensibilities demonstrated in the filmmaker’s underrated Wind River, which has now debuted with a killer Rotten Tomatoes score following the first reviews.

The series is titled Untamed and finds Hulk and The Dry star Eric Bana taking the lead in this character-driven mystery-thriller, which follows a special agent for the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. Suddenly, the investigation of a brutal death sends him down a path that will force him to face the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past.

‘Untamed’ Review: Eric Bana Is Excellent in Netflix’s Moody Yosemite Mystery
Image
If you think you’ve seen “Untamed” before, you haven’t.

Sure, it has the familiar ingredients — grief, guilt and a secret buried beneath the pines — but Netflix’s moody mystery miniseries grabs your attention with a grim murder and keeps you hooked as its six episodes unfold, each ending on a cliffhanger that practically dares you not to hit “Next Episode.”

In an era saturated with high-concept thrillers and over-elaborate puzzle boxes, “Untamed” takes a slower, more considered route. Emotional authenticity and character-driven storytelling take precedence over procedural gimmicks or rapid-fire twists.

Oh, and it stars Eric Bana — reminding us why he is one of the great underappreciated talents of his generation.

The story follows Kyle Turner (Bana), a veteran National Parks agent. His carefully maintained sense of order begins to unravel when a new case reopens old wounds. Turner’s journey is as much inward as outward — a...

Untamed TV Review: Eric Bana leads the beautiful but familiar procedural set in Yosemite National Park
Image
Plot: A character-driven mystery-thriller that follows Kyle Turner, a special agent for the National Parks Service who works to enforce human law in nature’s vast wilderness. The investigation of a brutal death sends Turner on a collision course with the dark secrets within the park, and in his own past.

Review: Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone franchise has cornered the market on contemporary Western series. However, with the expansion into cop shows with Y: Marshals, the floodgates have opened for every streaming service and studio to try their hands at developing similar projects. While many of these shows will be derivative or formulaic, it takes an exceptional talent to try and deliver something that clicks with audiences like Sheridan’s flagship series did. Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith deliver Untamed, a solid drama set in the vast beauty of Yosemite National Park that works well thanks to being a...

The suspenseful mystery limited series Untamed made its premiere on Netflix on July 16, and the series doesn't waste a minute before dropping us into the action. Eric Bana Is Outstanding in Netflix’s Gripping Mystery Thriller ‘Untamed’: TV Review

Detective work requires meticulous attention to detail, regardless of the setting. However, when a crime occurs amid one million acres of wilderness, investigations can take on a life of their own. Smith and Elle Smith, Netflix’s new mystery-thriller, “Untamed,” is an engrossing ride that encompasses secrets, deep-seated wounds and one tenacious investigator’s attempt to lay it all bare. Set in the picturesque Yosemite National Park, the limited series follows Kyle Turner (an exceptional Eric Bana), a special agent for the National Park Service Investigative Services Branch (Isb). After a body is discovered in the park, Turner embarks on a ruthless quest to determine what happened.
