ReMastered: Netflix's music series tells the story of Robert Johnson
Image
In the Coen Brothers’ 2000 film O Brother, Where Art Thou, Chris Thomas King plays Tommy Johnson, a young blues guitarist modeled on the real-life musician Robert Johnson. Though he plays his acoustic guitar and sings a lot like the legendary Delta blues artist, there is not very much else that approximates Robert Johnson. Tommy is a happily-go-lucky character who comes to a rather pleasant ending at the fictional movie’s close.

The real Robert Johnson did not lead a particularly happy life and was dead by 27, the victim of some poisoned whiskey.

Now, I say Johnson was not especially happy, but if I’m being honest, I have to admit that I don’t really know. The fact is, very little is actually known about Robert Johnson. He was born in 1911 and died in 1938, He spent most of his life in Mississippi. Beyond that, we have 29 recorded songs that helped...

All The Songs In ‘A Complete Unknown’: ‘Girl From The North Country,’ ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’ And More
Image
While James Mangold’s A Complete Unknown spotlights mainly the life of Bob Dylan (portrayed by Timothée Chalamet), the lives of several other musicians intertwined with the iconic troubador’s. His visit to Woody Guthri (Scott McNairy) and Pete Seeger (Edward Norton) proved formative in his career and rise as a folk musician.

Later, Joan Baez (Monica Barbaro) and Johnny Cash (Boyd Holbrook) came into the musician’s orbit as did Bob Neuwirth (Will Harrison). All Bob Dylan vocals in the film were performed by Chalamet, and the same goes for Edward Norton’s Pete Seeger songs, Monica Barbaro’s portrayal of Joan Baez and Boyd Holbrook’s Johnny Cash.

Below, find a list of all the songs in A Complete Unknown:

“Dusty Old Dust (So Long It’s Been Good To Know Yuh)” Written and Performed by Woody Guthrie “Oasis” Performed by Moondog, Written by Louis T. Hardin “Death,...

A Complete Unknown Soundtrack Guide: Every Song & When They Play
Image
Warning: This article contains Major Spoilers for A Complete Unknown!

A Complete Unknown’s soundtrack features the cast singing iconic folk music that defines the genre, focusing predominantly on Bob Dylan’s early folk and folk-rock songs. The musician Bob Dylan is one of the most influential and groundbreaking musicians of all time, but he’s developed a public perception as an enigma. A Complete Unknown tries to unpack this perception, delving into Dylan’s early career leading up to the controversial 1965 Newport Folk Festival. Because the movie is a Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown has an understandably enormous soundtrack packed with music from the early to mid-1960s.

In an exclusive Q&a during the AMC early access showing of A Complete Unknown on December 18th, for which Screen Rant was present, Timothée Chalamet revealed that they planned to pre-records of the cast, but they threw out the...

The New York local first began performing for Msg in 2014 and, in October, started the countdown to his last ten shows. The “Uptown Girl” singer currently holds the record for most appearances at Msg.

‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’: The Ongoing Saga of Pop’s Most Contentious Song
Three years ago, when Disney announced a remake of its animated classic The Lion King, it was easy to be skeptical: With the original still so beloved, was an upgrade even necessary? But at least one family in South Africa was hopeful. In both the first movie and a later stage production, The Lion King features “The Lion Sleeps Tonight,” a Sixties pop hit that has its roots in “Mbube,” a song written and recorded in the Thirties by South African singer and migrant worker Solomon Linda. For decades, Linda...

The Lion King Soundtrack Has All the Classic Hits (and a New Song by Elton John!)
Let's be honest: the best part of any classic Disney film is the music. That's why we're So ready for the soundtrack of the live-action reboot of The Lion King, especially after all the sneak peeks we've gotten of the cast singing our favorite tunes.

Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' Gets A Cappella Redo From Viral Stars
Taylor Swift at an event for 2019 Golden Globe Awards (2019)
After making their name known internationally with a 5-person-1-guitar cover of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used To Know" that went viral, Burlington, Ontario pop band Walk Off The Earth are back at it again with just their voices for an a cappella cover of Taylor Swift's song "I Knew You Were Trouble."

The video was posted yesterday and already has 250,000 views. It opens with singer Sarah Blackwood performing alone before additional members emerge beside her song. Perhaps the oddest part of the video is that two-time Canadian beatbox champion Terry "Krnfx" Im appears about 40 seconds into the song, adding different noises and backbeats himself that you'd usually hear a DJ create on turntables.

The backing harmonies then morph into a snippet of Solomon Linda song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight," made famous by The Weavers and The Tokens before returning to more of a hip-hop-meets-pop tune. Krnfx also gets...
