Marvel's Galactus Enters The Spider-Verse And Brings A Shocking New Herald With Him [Exclusive Preview]

The original Galactus Trilogy as told in Stan Lee and Jack Kirby's "Fantastic Four" #48-50 remains one of the most influential stories of the Marvel Universe. Though told in three simple issues, it was the first Marvel superhero tale with apocalyptic stakes. Galactus, intent on devouring Earth, is portrayed more so as a force of nature than a mustache-twirling super-villain. Then there's his herald, the Silver Surfer, who is touched by humanity and turns against his master.

Galactus exiles the rebellious Surfer from his service at the end of the trilogy. Still, in stories told since, Galactus will usually have a less powerful, human-sized herald in his service to replace the Surfer. Most infamously, "Marvel Tales" #137 featured an alternate reality where Spider-Man's Aunt May becomes the herald of Galactus ("Golden Oldie"). In the end, she convinces Galactus to switch...

“That’s what lawyers do when they get together”: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s the Lincoln Lawyer Has 1 Crucial Advantage Over Suits As Best Legal Drama
Image
Legal dramas often walk a fine line between being gripping and downright over-the-top, and while Suits had its charm (and plenty of swagger), The Lincoln Lawyer came in hot with something Suits just couldn’t quite match—raw, street-smart realism. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s take on Mickey Haller didn’t rely on designer suits or lofty office drama.

Nope, he operated straight out of the back seat of his Lincoln, taking the phrase on the go to a whole new level. The series delivered courtroom showdowns with a grittier edge, balancing the flash with some serious depth. Sure, Suits had the banter, but The Lincoln Lawyer made the law feel like it wasn’t just polished—it was personal.

Scheduled for release on January 8, 2025, the new ‘What If…?’ storyline promises an exciting twist. What If…? Galactus Transformed Gambit #1, created by Josh Trujillo, Manuel Garcia, and Ron Lim, will feature Gambit taking on the mantle of Galactus’ herald.

In this issue, Gambit, celebrated as the most charismatic and skilled thief on Earth, captures the attention of Galactus, the Devourer of Worlds. With the Power Cosmic flowing through him, Gambit becomes nearly unstoppable.

Galactus Gets Some Unexpected New Heralds In Marvel Comics' Next What If...? Series
Image
One of the most feared beings in all existence is actively recruiting in Marvel Comics' new What If...? comic book series. Next January, a series of one-shots dares to ask the question: What if Galactus turned some of Marvel's best and brightest heroes into his new cosmic heralds?

Silver Surfer is, of course, the most well-known Herald to Galactus, though the likes of Doctor Strange, Ghost Rider, and the Human Torch have also briefly served the Devourer of Worlds over the years.

Now, though, it will be Hulk, Gambit, Moon Knight, Rogue, and Spider-Gwen who are transformed by the power cosmic and tormented by new purpose in stories delivered by a lineup of superstar talent, including veteran Marvel talent and rising newcomers.

These once-familiar heroes will be outfitted with new cosmic looks designed by visionary Silver Surfer artist Ron Lim, and imbued with divine power upgrades from their master that will test their humanity.

Daredevil's Brother Is To Blame For Matt Murdock's Hero Origin
Image
Matt Murdock's life-altering accident was caused by his twin brother, Mike, who used a Norn Stone to change their shared history. Mike Murdock's manipulation of reality made him a part of Matt's childhood, influencing the pivotal moment of Matt getting hit by a truck. The car accident that blinded Matt and gave him his powers was originally a random event, but with Mike's interference, became a deliberate act affecting Matt's superhero destiny.

One of the biggest events in Daredevil's life was the accident that gave him his superpowers. Matt's life was completely changed when he one day pushed a stranger out of the way of an oncoming truck. This resulted in an accident that not only blinded Matt, but gave him the powers he'd need to be Daredevil, but Marvel revealed that Matt's own brother was the reason this happened.

Matt's twin brother Mike Murdock began as...

The Daredevil Storyline That Literally Sent Matt Murdock to Hell
Image
“Going to Hell for God is the logical end for the Catholic devil,” declares Matt Murdock in 2023’s Daredevil #12.

Matt Murdock isn’t the only religious superhero in the Marvel Universe. In addition to fellow Catholic Nightcrawler of the X-Men, there’s the Presbyterian Christian Wolfsbane, Muslim Ms. Marvel, pantheist Black Panther, and Jewish characters like Moon Knight and Kitty Pryde. But Daredevil might be the Marvel superhero whose religion plays the most pronounced role in his stories.

Of course, Daredevil isn’t the first Marvel hero to go to Hell and literally fight the Devil, as Ghost Rider, the X-Men, and anyone who had to deal with Mephisto can attest. But when it’s guilty Catholic Matt Murdock donning his Daredevil duds to deal with the Devil, then it’s a really big deal. Which is exactly why Chip Zdarsky — who wrote Daredevil #12 with artist Marco Checchetto, colorist Matthew Wilson,...

X-Men Officially Reveals an Iconic Villain's Origin Story After 33 Years
Image
Warning: Contains spoilers for X-Men: Days of Future Past: Doomsday #2!The X-Men never run short of villains, and some even transcend timelines to pursue their mission of mutant elimination. Ahab, the Master of Hounds, has dogged mutantkind in the past, present, and future, and now some of the cyborg’s personal history has finally been revealed. In X-Men: Days of Future Past: Doomsday #2 – by Mark Guggenheim, Manuel Garcia, and Geoffrey Shaw – it is revealed that Henry Peter Gyrich, another perennial Marvel antagonist, was the first person to tie Roderick “Rory” Campbell to the name Ahab, comparing him to the zealous captain of a whale hunting vessel in Herman Melville's Moby Dick.

Spider-Man's Brutal Death Proves He's Marvel's Most Selfless Hero
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for X-Men: Days of Future Past - Doomsday #1!Spider-Man has once again shown the great responsibility he shoulders, by choosing to make the ultimate sacrifice rather than use his powers to take human lives. Peter Parker has famously lived by the lesson: "With great power, comes great responsibility." When a radioactive spider bite blessed young Peter with a vast array of spider-like abilities, he chose to use his newly gifted powers as a force for good. As Spider-Man, Peter tends to embody all that is good and decent in humanity, showing great restraint - namely, he's not a killer.

In X-Men: Days of Future Past - Doomsday #1 from Marc Guggenheim and Manuel Garcia, Spider-Man takes his ethos to the extreme. In this prequel to the dystopian nightmare of the Days of Future Past timeline, anti-mutant sentiment is roiling the nation. The issue touches on the role played...

Warning! Spoilers ahead for X-Men: Days of Future Past - Doomsday #1!When the Avengers refuse to carry out the government's anti-mutant authoritarianism, the United States assembles a new super team to take down the X-Men. Marvel Comics is once again exploring the grim timeline of the X-Men's Days of Future Past in a new miniseries. Fans have long wondered what role the Avengers played throughout the classic storyline: while mutant matters are primarily the X-Men's responsibility, surely the collapse of human civilization would draw the attention of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. Now Marvel has detailed not only the role of Earth's non-mutant superheroes, but who took their place when they stood up to fermenting tyranny.

X-Men: Days of Future Past - Doomsday #1 is the first of a new series from writer Marc Guggenheim and artist Manuel Garcia. While this expansion of this alternate Marvel Universe touches on the Sentinel-ruled dystopia of the distant future,...
