10 Most Powerful DC Movie Characters Who Are Totally Underrated
Image
The DC Universe is full of powerful characters that often go unrecognized in its movies, full of heroes and villains whose screen presence betrays their staggering strength. Many characters are often painfully glossed over in the eternal debate for who is the most powerful player in DC movie history. Whether due to the fact that they're hidden in an infamously bad film or that they simply don't have enough screen time, many DC movie characters' power levels fly under the radar.

Due to its nature as a high-power-level setting full of gods, monsters, and ancient aliens, the movies of the Dceu contain the lion's share of staggeringly strong heroes and villains that often go underrated as a major player in the hierarchy of the world. That being said, the occasional sneak from an earlier one-off DC film can also manage to be far stronger than they might seem at first glance.

‘Incubus’ Blu-ray Review (Arrow Video)
Image
Stars: William Shatner, Allyson Ames, Eloise Hardt, Robert Fortier, Ann Atmar, Milos Milos | Written and Directed by Leslie Stevens

Incubus is a 60s experimental horror film starring William Shatner, notable not only for its eerie storyline but also for being one of the few films ever made entirely in Esperanto. Directed by Leslie Stevens (The Outer Limits), the movie blends supernatural horror with art-house sensibilities, resulting in a haunting and unique cinematic experience.

The story revolves around a young soldier, Marc (Shatner), recovering from war wounds in a peaceful village rumoured to possess a miraculous healing spring. This seemingly idyllic setting is tainted by the presence of succubi, demonic beings who seduce and corrupt mortal souls. One such succubus, Kia (Allyson Ames), grows dissatisfied with preying on the wicked and sets her sights on Marc, a pure and virtuous man. The resulting battle between good and evil unfolds in a slow,...

From The Riddler To The End, These Are 9 Video Game Bosses Who You Can Just Completely Ignore and Still Beat Them
Image
Batman: Arkham City allowed many players to take down their favorite DC villains, including The Riddler. However, the genius megalomaniac could only be taken down in a very specific way, and the Bat never actually lands a blow on the man!

Just like him, there are many bosses in video games that the player never needs to attack, or can straight up ignore, to win the fight, and sometimes the game! Here are nine such video game bosses that gave players a new way to complete the game.

9. The Riddler – Batman: Arkham City The hunt for The Riddler took us all over the map. | Credits: Rocksteady Studios

The Riddler is one of the many villains present in the sequel to Arkham Asylum, and the game really takes advantage of his proclivities to get the player to explore the new open map. As with all of his other appearances across media,...

However, the band wanted to capture how the songs have “morphed and changed” over the past few decades. “They’ve evolved out into totally different arrangements and then made their way back to the original arrangement — we’ve been playing them that long at this point,” he explained. “On the re-recording, you can tell it’s the same song, but there are different embellishments.”

Starting in late August, Incubus will perform Morning View in full on a US arena tour with special guest Coheed and...

The 20 Most Powerful DC Characters, Ranked
Image
Power can look like a lot of things, and nothing quite exemplifies that like the world of comic books. In this case, the soon-to-be-defunct DC Extended Universe (Dceu).

The interconnected DC universe hasn’t been around as long as its Marvel counterpart, but the Warner Bros. franchise has served up a kaleidoscopic roster of heroes, supervillains and antiheroes that can do serious damage to their opponents. But they’ve got different ways of doing it.

With his combination of superhuman strength, speed, flight and laser-eyes, Superman can plow through you, pummel you to dust or incinerate you with his vision. He could grab you by the arm and fly 100,000 feet into the air before dropping you back to the ground where your body would most definitely be destroyed. The Flash can run so fast that he can literally alter history and bring the world to the brink of destruction. Or,...

10 Times TV Shows Used Famous Songs In Wildly Creative Ways
Image
"Stranger Things" season 4 finale incorporates Metallica's "Master of Puppets" in a memorable episode, using music to distract the Demobats. "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" cleverly uses the Backstreet Boys' "I Want It That Way" to identify a murderer through acapella singing. "Beef" features an acoustic rendition of Incubus' "Drive" as a representation of personal development for the main character Danny.

There have been several instances of TV shows using famous songs in unique and creative ways. Many shows have become famous for having their own popular songs incorporated as their theme songs, such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation's use of the well-known song "Who Are You?" By The Who. However, few shows have found creative ways to take these already famous songs and integrate them into the plot, themes, and characters of celebrated television shows.

Some of the creators of the most iconic TV shows ever made have written and composed their own...

You Can Now Add Steven Yeun's Cover of "Drive" From "Beef" to Your Playlists
Image
In Netflix's thriller series "Beef," Steven Yeun plays Danny Cho, a struggling contractor who feels responsible for the failure of his parents' motel. In the very first episode, he gets into a road rage incident with Amy Lau (played by Ali Wong), a successful and wealthy businessperson who can't help but feel a lot of ennui about her life. It sets them both on a course toward mutual destruction, changing their lives and the lives of everyone they know forever.

During the series, Danny joins a Korean church in Orange County where the pastor is the husband of his ex-girlfriend. At first, Danny's involvement seems pretty self-interested, but he's taken aback by the emotional response he has to the service and the music there. Later in the series, during episode seven, he even becomes a singer in the church's praise band, too, performing "Amazing Grace" for the congregation. Danny...

Stream it below.

Created by Lee Sung Jin, Beef centers around Yeun as Danny Cho and comedian Ali Wong as Amy Lau. After getting involved in a road rage incident, their lives intertwine and go down a deep, dark path. The pivotal scene when Yeun performs “Drive” takes place during Episode 3, “I Am Inhabited by a Cry,” when Danny tries to find meaning in his life by reconnecting with his faith through the praise band at his ex-girlfriend’s Orange County church.

How Incubus and Other Alt-Rock Bands 'Drive' the Feud in Netflix's Beef
Image
It’s no accident that the third episode of Beef ends with the Incubus song “Drive.” Netflix’s dark comedy is about the aftermath of a road rage incident that changes the lives of Amy (Ali Wong), a well-off entrepreneur, and Danny (Steven Yeun), a struggling contractor. There’s genuine feeling in both their stories, but as they escalate their quests for vengeance, there’s more than a little buffoonery. No matter how angry they are, and no matter how much we understand their complicated inner lives, it’s hard to take them entirely seriously when Danny urinates on Amy’s floor or Amy paints naughty words on Danny’s truck.

Pajiba After Dark 8/10/11
One of the joys of working on the internet is, of course, your complete and utter helplessness when your equipment decides that it wants to be a bastard. Oh, sure, your computer will tell you that you've got full wireless signal and the modem will have all the little lights on saying that the internet is connected and wireless is working but does that mean you can actually access any websites? No. No it does not. And as satisfying as it would be to throw all those little gadgets that smirk at you with their little Led indicator lights across the room, you know you can't because that will just make the whole situation worse, somehow. And when you finally figure out the right combination of cords and switching it off for 30 seconds and turning it back on to make everything work, it makes even less sense which just aggravates you more.

Pajiba After Dark 7/18/11
Interesting mix of the TV tonight, a bit heavy on the reality series but that's par for the course in terms of summer. I know that many of you are connoisseurs of Lifetime movies and we've got one tonight that is evidently based on the life of Joanne Rowling. Now, I won't deny that her story of going from a single mother on the dole to world famous and obscenely wealthy author is probably an awesome story but the source I found indicates that they're beginning the movie during her childhood which... yeah. Moving on! Also we've got "The Big C" which is the second show in two nights that I've had to write about that is supposed to feature a dying protagonist and yet is into it's second season? I'm beginning to feel that perhaps basing series around characters who aren't meant to be alive too long is a bad idea,...

Pajiba After Dark 7/11/11
For a decent number of Pajiba After Dark readers, tonight will probably be the last night of TV they watch for the week since A Dance with Dragons comes out tomorrow so all of them will be eyeball deep in their books/Kindles hastening towards the end of the "Song of Ice and Fire" series that I'm sure George R. R. Martin has completely planned out to a meticulous and thoroughly satisfying conclusion. Awww, now I feel bad. It's not nice to tease about these things, as anyone who was a fan of "Battlestar: Galactica" should be aware of. Now I made myself sad. There's just no winning here. Here's your stupid Monday night TV:

8:00pm: "The Bachelorette" on ABC

"Basketball Wives" on VH1

"Eureka" on SyFy. Fourth season summer premiere.

"Inside the Actor's Studio: Jennifer Aniston" on Bravo

"Secret Life of the American Teenager" on ABC Family...

A few words about The Karate Kid
O.K. are you sitting down? I liked it. What did he say? I Said I Liked It! It completely won me over. Surprised huh? Not as surprised as I am. I know what you’re thinking: “But Sergio how could you like it? There’s no graphic violence or explicit hard core sex in it and it stars the Unholy Spawn of the Incubus better known as Jaden Smith, the son of Will and Jada?”

But it’s really a well made, charming, sweet-natured kid’s movie. And that’s the point you should keep in mind. This is a kids film for kids and their families. The 1984 original Karate Kid and its 1986 sequel (which are overrated movies anyway that people think were great only through the hazy cloud of nostalgia) were aimed at teenagers and young adults. This new version, mainly because of the casting of Jaden, skews towards a younger crowd.
