A Minecraft Movie, and its 28 writers
Jack Black, Jason Momoa, Emma Myers, Danielle Brooks, and Sebastian Hansen in A Minecraft Movie (2025)
Sitting atop the global box office is A Minecraft Movie, a film that’s taken 11 years and 28 writers to get to the screen.

After struggling in development for the best part of a decade, cinemas were packed out this past weekend as A Minecraft Movie opened to the kind of numbers we’ve not seen for a while. Over $300m of business was done around the globe in the three days, and with school holidays kicking off, Warner Bros’ bank balance should look a fair amount healthier by the time the film has completed its run.

It’s little secret that A Minecraft Movie went through plenty of creatives on its way to the screen, though, with Jared Hess the director who finally got it completed. But also, a lot of writers were involved. The final WGA-sanctioned credits for the film list six different names. Story on the film is credited to Allison Schroeder,...

George W. Bush Horror Movie & Tickle Me Elmo Top The Black List 2024
Image
The next few years could be a wild time at the movies. The Black List is an online platform where upcoming screenwriters share their work and, every year, the list compiles the most popular unproduced screenplays and unveils them to the world (in the interest of attracting potential producers). 2024 has already been a big year, what with Gladiator II and Wicked going head-to-head, Mubi's insanely successful The Substance, Deadpool & Wolverine swearing their way through a feature-length runtime, and the return of the cinematic Goat in Paddington in Peru. But that's nothing compared to what's on The Black List's most popular scripts of 2024.

Once an IP enters the public domain, horror fanatics are almost guaranteed to turn it into a horror movie. But some horror junkie's have transformed the life of a former U.S. President into a crazy slasher film. Camp David (written by Megan Amram and Joseph Carnegie...

Why Peacock Canceled The Pitch Perfect Spin-Off Series Bumper In Berlin
Image
The "Pitch Perfect" franchise is kind of a strange beast, and it's not just because of the acapella. Despite the fact that the movies follow the law of diminishing returns, with each entry being just a bit less aca-awesome than the last, the spin-off Peacock series, "Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin," is actually a lot of fun. With showrunner Megan Amram at the helm, "Bumper in Berlin" was a sweet, silly continuation of the "Pitch Perfect" movies that fully leaned into its main character, Bumper Allen. Played by Adam DeVine, Bumper was more of a villain in the first "Pitch Perfect" movie before eventually becoming a protagonist in his own right, and DeVine's annoying-little-brother-esque performance is, well, pitch perfect. Throw in Flula Borg reprising his role as Pieter Krämer from "Pitch Perfect 2," "Modern Family" star Sarah Hyland as his assistant and Bumper's love interest, "The Good Place" star...

Michael Schur on ‘A Man on the Inside,’ the Worst Ad Ever Made, and What Makes a Comedy a Comedy
Image
Among the many delights in Michael Schur’s new Netflix comedy, “A Man on the Inside,” there’s an aptly covert one that may go overlooked. Actually, there’s eight. Depending on how you watch Netflix, they may not appear onscreen long enough to notice, but each episode title is a pun (or at least a play on words) referencing a well-known book, movie, or TV show about spies. There’s “The Man Who Knew Too Much About Bridges” (Episode 2), “Presents and Clear Danger” (Episode 5), “Our Man in Sacramento” (Episode 6), and my personal favorite from the premiere: “Tinker Tailor Older Spy.”

“We decided late in the game to name every episode after a famous spy story,” Schur said in an interview with IndieWire, adding he didn’t know offhand who came up with the title for Episode 1. “My guess would either be Megan Amram, who has worked with me on...

#Xodus: Bluesky Hits 20M Users as People Continue to Flee X
Image
A trickle is becoming a flood for Bluesky, the social media company that has seen spectacular growth since the presidential election. On Tuesday, the microblogging platform hit 20 million users, after averaging 1 million new users per day over the past five days.

According to a Nov. 13 post by Bluesky CEO Jay Graber, the site had 6 million users in late August, nearly 11 million in late October and hit 15 million users on Nov. 15. It added another 5 million users in just five days, with the explosive growth seen since Nov. 5, the day of the election, accelerating.

Bluesky has been one of the main beneficiaries of millions of users leaving Elon Musk’s X, as the site formerly known as Twitter descends into a mess of bots, extreme content, crypto scams, ads, pornography, racism, transphobia and misinformation.

Hollywood has been quick to adopt Bluesky, particularly with the entertainment industry’s aversion to the political views of Musk,...

“Bluesky Has the Juice”: Celebrities Flee “Toxic” X for Rival Social Media Site
Image
Call it a blue wave. A host of actors, directors, musicians, journalists and other prominent people are dumping X (formerly Twitter) and flocking to social media platform Bluesky.

In the past week, an increasing number of bold-faced names have announced that they plan to post less on X, or leave the platform altogether, citing myriad issues with the social media company, including far right content, hate speech, transphobia, racism, harassment, pornography, crypto scams, bots and the political views of owner Elon Musk, the billionaire oligarch who is a vocal supporter and financial backer of Donald Trump.

Musk’s ownership of X and his updates to content moderation on the platform have been pushing brands and media groups closer and closer to the exit. This week, The Guardian media group announced that it will stop posting on X, describing the site as a “toxic media platform.” On Nov. 4, the Berlin Film...

Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin is canceled at Peacock after getting a Season 2 renewal
Image
The Pitch Perfect spin-off, Bumper in Berlin, is getting bumped off. According to Deadline, Peacock is not moving forward with the sophomore season of the musical comedy series. Previously, the network renewed Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin for a second season in early January. Unfortunately, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin is another victim of the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. The fight for better representation, pay, and safety in the entertainment space is delaying productions across a broad spectrum, and Bumper in Berlin is getting swept up in the fallout.

While Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin is canceled, Universal says Pitch Perfect is still an essential part of its IP library. The franchise’s Elizabeth Banks continues developing projects with the studio, and Bumper in Berlin showrunner Megan Amram still has an overall deal with Universal Television.

Written and showrun by Megan Amram, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin follows Devine’s character,...

‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ Season 2 Canceled by Peacock Amid Strikes
Image
Peacock has reversed course and canceled the second season of its Pitch Perfect TV spinoff Bumper in Berlin, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.

The renewal was first announced back in January, after the show’s first six-episode season debuted on Nov. 23, 2022. At the time of the renewal, NBCU said Bumper in Berlin was the streamer’s top comedy series to date, but has not released any viewing data.

The cancellation comes amid Hollywood’s dual WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and marks yet another series, alongside the canceled second seasons of Prime Video’s The Peripheral and A League of Their Own, to have the plug pulled during the work stoppage. At the time, A League of Their Own co-creator and star Abbi Jacobson criticized Prime Video’s decision, writing that “to blame this cancellation on the strike is bullshit and cowardly.”

When the WGA strike began on May 2, the...

‘Bumper in Berlin’ Canceled at Peacock Despite Season 2 Renewal
Image
“Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin” has been canceled at Peacock despite the fact the show was previously renewed for a second season.

The spinoff of the “Pitch Perfect” film franchise originally debuted on Peacock in November 2022 and was renewed in January 2023. According to an individual with knowledge of the situation, the decision was made to cancel the series as the ongoing strikes in Hollywood meant that production was not able to begin as originally scheduled.

The series saw Adam Devine return as Bumper Allen as he moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin. Along with Devine, the cast of Season 1 included Flula Borg, Sarah Hyland, Lera Abova and Jameela Jamil. Per NBCU, the series scored the biggest comedy premiere in Peacock history, as it was watched by more accounts in its launch weekend than any other Peacock Original comedy to date.

Bumper Allen's exploits in Berlin won't be charted on-screen again.

Peacock has canceled Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, reversing the Season 2 renewal the show landed in January.

Deadline first reported the news, revealing that it was in relation to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes.

The series joins Prime Video's A League of Their Own and The Peripheral as strike casualties.

At the time of its renewal in January, Peacock claimed the show was watched by more subscribers in its launch weekend than any other original comedy at the time.

"We knew fans of the Pitch Perfect franchise were going to sing the praises of Bumper in Berlin and enjoy seeing a new side of Adam Devine's character," said Susan Rovner, then-Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming.

"Along with our partners at Utv, Megan Amram, Elizabeth Banks and Max Handelman crafted an incredibly unique and charming story with new takes on iconic songs.

‘Bumper in Berlin’ Canceled: Peacock Not Proceeding With Previously Ordered Season 2 Amid Strikes
Image
Exclusive: Peacock is not moving forward with a second season of comedy series Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin. This marks a reversal of the Season 2 renewal for the offshoot from the Pitch Perfect movie franchise, which was announced in early January.

Like was the case of two Prime Video series whose Season 2 renewals were rescinded last month — The Peripheral and A League of Their Own — the cancellation of Bumper In Berlin stems from the length of the work stoppage due to the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, which have delayed production, creating large gaps between seasons and making shows miss their target release dates.

Bumper In Berlin‘s first season was released in November 2022. The comedy had not started pre-production on Season 2 when the WGA strike began May 2. It has now fallen significantly behind its planned timeline. Such a delay would impact Peacock’s pipeline as there is...

Sarah Hyland Praises Husband Wells Adams's "Kind, Generous, and Supportive Heart"

After nearly six years together, one thing hasn't changed: Wells Adams is the perfect partner for Sarah Hyland. "He has such a beautiful, kind, generous and supportive heart for everybody he loves," Hyland tells Popsugar in praise of her husband, whom she married in a gorgeous August 2022 ceremony following a 2019 engagement (and pandemic-caused nuptials delay).

The "Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin star jokes that Adams, of Bachelor Nation fame, is a "much, much better person than I am." Even as this author counters, Hyland assures, "He is, he is." She explains, "I got a little bit of the New York edge where I'm like, 'If you do me wrong, that's on you.' And he's just so forgiving and loving and loves everybody for who they are. And I greatly admire that."

Megan Amram, executive producer of Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, is already teasing season 2 story details. The comedy series, a spin-off of the popular and widely successful Pitch Perfect movie franchise, premiered on Peacock on November 23. ‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ Showrunner Admits There Are ‘A Couple’ Unintentional Nods to ‘The Good Place’ (Video)

“Pitch Perfect” character Bumper Allen may not have gotten into the Good Place himself, but that doesn’t mean a little of “The Good Place” didn’t get into “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin” — the two shows share an executive producer, after all. But, according to showrunner Megan Amram, the nods to her last sitcom weren’t exactly intentional.

“Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin,” now streaming on Peacock, follows the antagonist of the first two movies, Bumper (Adam Devine) as he’s persuaded to move to Germany to reignite his singing career. According to Pieter Kramer, Bumper is famous there after going viral on TikTok. Granted, Pieter is kind of playing fast and loose with the word “famous,” but Bumper doesn’t know that, so off he goes.

Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin TV Review
Image
Plot: In the new series for Peacock, several years after we last saw him in “Pitch Perfect,” Adam Devine’s Bumper Allen moves to Germany to revive his music career when one of his songs becomes big in Berlin.

Review: If you ever asked yourself which character from the Pitch Perfect franchise was worth getting their own spin-off, Adam Devine’s Bumper Allen was probably at the bottom of the list. An antagonist in the first film and a side character in the sequel, Bumper shifts the focus from the competitive world of acapella music to Germany. With fellow Pitch Perfect 2 alum Flula Borg reprising his role as Pieter Kramer, Bumper in Berlin is everything the series title makes it out to be and not much more. While it has some harmless laughs and fun musical moments, this series misses the point of why people connected so much with...

‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ Stars Flula Borg and Jameela Jamil Really Loved Playing Toxic But Horny Exes (Video)
Sarah Hyland, Lera Abova, Flula Borg, Adam Devine, and Jameela Jamil in Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin (2022)
“Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin” marks the return of more than one of the film franchise’s original villains, with Flula Borg’s Pieter Kramer from Das Sound Machine. But it also introduces a new villain named Gisela, who just so happens to be Pieter’s toxic ex. The two are a formidable musical duo — and a horny one at that. But Borg and Jameela Jamil, who plays Gisela, loved that about them.

When we pick up in the new series, now streaming on Peacock, we learn that Pieter is a music manager these days following a fall from grace in Das Sound Machine. When the group’s beatboxer came down with a condition that made his mouth unusable — at least for beatboxing — they attempted to use a literal sound machine. But, when a technical failing results in the sound machine still going after the singers themselves stop, Pieter is shamed and ousted by everyone,...

Megan Amram Interview: Pitch Perfect Bumper In Berlin
Image
It's time to give thanks because Pitch Perfect is back on the screen with the new Peacock series, Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin. Over the course of 6 episodes, star Adam Devine returns to the scene of the acapella battle as Bumper Allen, only everyone else has moved on from Barden University while he remains stuck. When his old rival Pieter from Das Sound Machine invites him to Germany to try his hand at a pop career, Bumper packs his bags and prepares for the adventure of a lifetime—with no idea what's in store.

Pitch Perfect made waves when the first film came on the scene in 2012, kicking off a trilogy focused on an all-female acapella group known as the Barden Bellas. Their male counterparts at school were the Treblemakers, led by Devine's Bumper, but the boys did not return for Pitch Perfect 3. Now, Bumper in Berlin catches up...

However, he also finds himself meeting new faces.

‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ Review: Adam Devine Gets a Pointless Peacock Spin-Off
Image
Click here to read the full article.

The first time Bumper Allen (Adam Devine) meets music producer Thea (Lera Abova) in Peacock’s Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin, she’s skeptical about his chances of making it as a singer. He has, she brusquely declares, a “backpfeifengesicht — a face that is deserving of a slap.”

Bumper, who’s heard it before, takes her comment in stride: “It’s my round cheeks, coupled with my whole personality.” Indeed, Bumper’s slappability is precisely what made him so fun in the first Pitch Perfect — his ever-present smirk and bullying ways made him not only easy to hate, but fun to root against.

As Bumper well knows, however, not every member of an ensemble is destined to break out as a solo act, and that unfortunately proves to be the case in his eponymous TV spinoff. The series, created by Megan Amram and Elizabeth Banks,...

‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper In Berlin’ Is a Spinoff Without A Purpose: TV Review
Image
If anyone came away from “Pitch Perfect” with a burning desire to know what happens to male a cappella diva Bumper Allen (Adam Devine), I’d like to meet and study them for science. Of all the characters to earn their own spinoff from this franchise about the transformative power of female friendship, Bumper is the absolute last one that makes any sense. But the three “Pitch Perfect” movies were borne of Universal Pictures, which in turn begat NBC Universal’s streaming service Peacock, which needs eyeballs attached to subscribers in order to survive. Enter “Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin,” a truly strange addition to the “Pitch Perfect” aca-universe that at least employed some smart people while wringing its IP of choice for every drop of goodwill it’s worth.

Based on a story from showrunner Megan Amram (“The Good Place”) and “Pitch Perfect” producer and “Pitch Perfect 2” director Elizabeth Banks,...

The hilarious writer known for "Silicon Valley," "The Good Place," "An Emmy For Megan," and the best meme in the entirety of the Trump Administration is now a showrunner, bringing "Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin" to Peacock. With a trilogy as popular as the "Pitch Perfect" films, Amram was tasked with the difficult job of figuring out how to keep the same energy and sense of humor as the 2010s film series, while following the journey of Bumper Allen, who started out as the movies' main antagonist. A series centered on Bumper doesn't sound like it would work, but with Amram at the helm, "Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin" does the impossible and breathes new life into the decade-old series.

"Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin" has all of the aca-hilarity of the original trilogy,...

There’s nothing as tempting as IP: Just ask the studio streaming titans of today, who are diving deep into their film catalogs to reboot and reimagine hit films from decades past.

Just one summer since slasher “I Know What You Did Last Summer” found new life as an Amazon Prime Video series, and it seems that all our favorite “old” movies are finding new life on streamers and networks alike.

CBS announced shortly after canning a slew of shows that a reboot of the 1994 Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jamie Lee Curtis film “True Lies” will head to the network soon.

NBCUniversal also recently announced on May 12 a “re-framing” of Ben Stiller’s beloved 1994 burnout dramedy “Reality Bites,” which originally starred Winona Ryder and Ethan Hawke. The series is set to debut on Peacock, along with a bevy of other Universal titles being transformed for the small screen.

And that’s...
