“Space Invaders” Movie
Development continues on New Line Cinema's adaptation of Activision's 'old school'  video game "Space Invaders", into a live-action feature film, written by Ben Zazove and Evan Turner:

"Space Invaders" (1978) was created by Tomohiro Nishikado, manufactured, sold by Taito, Japan...

...then licensed in the US by the Midway division of Bally as an arcade game.

The title is noted as the first 'fixed shooter' game, earning points by defeating waves of descending aliens with a horizontally moving laser.

Home versions and variations of the game are estimated to have grossed over $13 billion in total revenue as of 2016, making it the highest-grossing video game of all time.

Producers of the new film are Weed Roads Pictures' Akiva Goldsman and Safehouse Pictures' Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, with Warner Bros./New Line Cinema distributing.

Ben Zazove & Evan Turner Tapped To Pen ‘Space Invaders’ Film For New Line Based On Taito Arcade Game
Image
Exclusive: New Line has enlisted screenwriters Ben Zazove and Evan Turner to pen a Space Invaders movie, inspired by the classic Taito arcade game, Deadline has learned.

No word yet on specifics, as to the story they’re spinning here. Weed Road Pictures’ Akiva Goldsman will produce alongside Safehouse Pictures partners Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell, with Greg Lessans & Rachel Wizenberg overseeing for Weed Road, and Matt Schwartz overseeing for Safehouse Pictures.

One of history’s most iconic arcade games, and one of the pioneering titles in the shoot ’em up gaming genre, Space Invaders tasks players with defending Earth from an alien invasion, shooting down waves of invaders moving across the screen before they reach the ground. Tomohiro Nishikado developed the title, released by Taito in 1978.

Space Invaders‘ commercial success has been described as the catalyst for the golden age of arcade gaming in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

Three Years Later, Star Wars' Young Princess Leia Opens Up About The Pressures Of Appealing To The Fanbase
Image
Obi-Wan Kenobi star Vivien Lyra Blair has opened up about what it was like for her to step into such a massive franchise and protect Carrie Fisher’s and Princess LeiaOrgana’s beloved Star Wars legacies. The Obi-Wan Kenobi series may have first and foremost been about Obi-Wan’s hardships in exile, but it also introduced us to a version of Princess Leia we’d never seen before.

While Carrie Fisher’s Leia was just 19 years old in the retitled A New Hope, Vivien Lyra Blair’s version of the character was only 10 years old, a mischievous, wise-cracking, hopeful, and kind young Princess on the cusp of becoming one of the Rebellion’s greatest leaders.

Blair had a difficult balance to strike. How do you show people a new version of such an iconic character while honoring the late Carrie Fisher’s legacy and pleasing Star Wars' notoriously difficult-to-please fanbase?...

The Flash Star Ezra Miller Is Planning "Tentative" Hollywood Comeback Following Serious Allegations
Image
The Flash star Ezra Miller's career was completely derailed in the build-up to the movie's release after making headlines for a number of alleged incidents, including disorderly conduct, assault, harassment and burglary.

The most series accusations involved child endangerment and grooming, with a temporary protection order against Miller being issued at the request of the parents of 18-year-old activist Tokata Iron Eyes. The actor did release a statement taking responsibility for their actions while promising to get the help they need, but not everyone was buying it, and for many, Miller crossed a few too many lines to earn a second chance.

Last August, we learned that Tokata’s father, Chase Iron Eyes, had withdrawn the complaint after claiming that his initial belief was based on a story that has since been recanted. The statement was met with some scepticism, but there were those who felt that it was...

Ben Stiller to direct a new Twilight Zone movie?
Rod Serling in Rod Serling: Writer (1996)
Created by Rod Serling in 1959, the anthology series The Twilight Zone has one of the most popular names in entertainment history, and different producers have cashed in on that title many times over the years. The original five season run of the show has been followed by a three-season revival in the ’80s, a one season revival in the early 2000s, a two-season revival (headed up by Jordan Peele) in 2019 to 2020, a feature film (produced by Steven Spielberg) that was released in 1983, and a ’90s TV movie called Twilight Zone: Rod Serling’s Lost Classics. Of course, there have also been books, comic books, and video games. For more than ten years, Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company Appian Way has been trying to develop a new Twilight Zone feature film for Warner Bros., as The Twilight Zone is said to be DiCaprio’s favorite TV show… but it has been a bumpy ride,...

In 2022, the Star Warsfranchise saw the return of Hayden Christensen to the role of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader when the actor appeared in the Disney+ series Obi-Wan Kenobi. However, Christensen voiced that he was open to returning to the character that he played in two prequel films, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, long before Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered.

When asked if he would be interested in doing a voice in The Clone Wars, Christensen said, “I would be, of course, yeah, so tell them to ask me about that,...

The Flash Director On Movie's Box Office Failure: "It's The Result Of A Mental Health Situation"
Image
Whether you happen to feel that the movie gets a bit of a bad rap or not, there's no denying that 2023's The Flash starring Ezra Miller proved to be a major misstep.

Despite DC Studios co-ceo James Gunn hyping the film up as "one of the best superhero movies" he's ever seen in the build-up to its release, The Flash was not embraced by the majority of fans or general audiences, and only ended up grossing $271 million worldwide against a reported production budget of $200–$220 million.

Now, director Andy Muschietti has spoken in-depth about the movie's failure for the first time, and the filmmaker believes that a number of factors beyond his control contributed to the overall negative reception.

The video interview was recorded in Spanish, so it's possible that some things may have been lost in translation (thanks to Reel Anarchy for the breakdown).

The Flash: James Gunn Says They're "Holding A Beat" On Developing A New Dcu Take On The Scarlet Speedster
Image
When DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran announced the first chapter of the Dcu slate, "Gods and Monsters," several major DC Comics heroes - most notably Wonder Woman and The Flash - were conspicuous by their absence.

When it comes to the Scarlet Speedster, it's not exactly surprising that the studio would decide to hold off on revisiting the character for a while.

The Flash movie starring Ezra Miller only came out last year, and wasn't exactly well-received. Despite Gunn hyping the film up as "one of the best superhero movies" he's ever seen, it was not embraced by the majority of fans or general audiences, and only ended up grossing $271 million worldwide against a reported budget of $200–220 million.

The Fastest Man Alive will no doubt find his way into the Dcu eventually, but when asked on social media why we're getting a Clayface movie before a new...

The Boys Star Jack Quaid Has A Weird Superpower In Action-Packed Novocaine Trailer
Image
Paramount Pictures has revealed the first trailer for "Novocaine." This appears to be going for an original superhero movie of sorts, albeit one with a pretty fun twist. Jack Quaid, of "The Boys" Fame, stars in the lead role as a man trying to rescue his new girlfriend, who's been taken hostage after a robbery gone wrong. To do so, he has to fight off a bunch of bad guys. Why is he qualified to do such a thing? Because he literally can't feel pain. So what he lacks in skill, he makes up for in other bats*** crazy ways.

This is a somewhat familiar setup at its core: Average guy meets a girl, falls in love with said girl, something bad happens to that girl, and he makes it his mission to save her. How many times have we seen that? What makes this interesting is the "can't feel pain" component,...

Jack Quaid snaps into action as a man who feels no pain in the trailer for Novocaine
Image
In the 1999 Pierce Brosnan James Bond film, The World is Not Enough, the villain Renard, played by Robert Carlyle, was a tough opposer for the 00-agent since he couldn’t feel pain. That concept is now being explored with a new twist as Jack Quaid plays an everyday man with a similar trait, only he is harnessing it to become a reluctant hero. Paramount has released the trailer to Novocaine, which stars Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, Lou Beatty Jr., Van Hengst, Conrad Kemp and Jacob Batalon.

The official synopsis reads,

“When the girl of his dreams (Amber Midthunder) is kidnapped, everyman Nate (Jack Quaid) turns his inability to feel pain into an unexpected strength in his fight to get her back.”

The movie is currently unrated. However, with its concept, the trailer’s balls-to-the-wall tendency to explore every facet of this concept and the graphic action it brings,...

20th Snaps Up Action Spec ‘Test Drive’ From ‘Dexter: Resurrection’s Matt Venne; Safehouse Producing
Image
Exclusive: In a competitive situation, 20th Century Studios has won rights to Test Drive, an original action spec from Matt Venne, to be produced by Safehouse Pictures.

While plot details are under wraps, sources said Venne secured a healthy mid-six against seven figure deal for his script. The spec had no talent or director attachments and caused a stir on the back of its concept and writing alone, in a scenario not too commonly seen these days.

Director of Development of Safehouse, Austin Bowman, found the spec. We’re told Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell will produce.

Currently staffing on Showtime’s Dexter spin-off series Dexter: Resurrection, Venne is a prolific genre writer who previously adapted Stephen King’s Bag of Bones as a limited series for A&e. He sold his series Cruel Summer, based on the same-name novel, to Legendary TV, with David Goyer boarding to produce, and also...

The Dceu's Supergirl Actor Turned To A Fellow Scrapped Superhero Actor For Support Amid Dcu Reset
Image
The Flash's Supergirl actor Sasha Calle explains how her friendship with Batgirl actor Leslie Grace helped her come to terms with her very brief time in the Dceu. Sasha Calle played an imprisoned, alternate-universe Kara Zor-El a.k.a. Supergirl in The Flash, where Barry Allen meets her while trying to locate Superman. Calle's Supergirl was a highlight of The Flash, receiving plenty of praise for her performance, costume, and action scenes. However, the Dcu reboot led to Sasha Calle's Supergirl being replaced with Milly Alcock's, who will make her debut in the Dcu's upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set for release in 2026.

Speaking to THR about her upcoming movie In The Summers, Sasha Calle discusses her farewell to the Supergirl role, calling the experience "bittersweet" and "heartbreaking". Calle thanks Batgirl actor Leslie Grace for helping her through the heartache, as Grace also bid farewell to her DC...

The Flash's Sasha Calle Says It Was "Heartbreaking" To Be Replaced As Supergirl After Signing Multi-Film Deal
Image
Sasha Calle made her debut as Supergirl in last year's The Flash, but what should have been a joyous introduction to a major superhero franchise was soured by a number of factors, including co-star Ezra Miller's legal troubles, the movie's underperformance at the box office, and the fact that the Dceu was on its last legs.

When James Gunn and Peter Safran took over as co-heads of the newly-implemented DC Studios, the search began for another actress to play Kara Zor-El in the Dcu, with House of the Dragon star Milly Alcock ultimately taking over as our new big-screen Girl of Steel.

While speaking to THR about her next project, Joe Carnahan's Rip, Calle opened up about the situation for the first time, revealing that she did sign a multi-film deal when she initially accepted the role.

"I was so deeply in love with that role. I had...

The Flash's Ezra Miller Has Grooming Accusations Dropped
Image
Over two years since Ezra Miller was accused of grooming a teenager - one of several disturbing incidents surrounding the actor - the complaint against them has been dropped by Chase Iron Eyes. In an unexpected turn of events, the father of Tokata, who was said to be the victim in the allegations, has spoken out after withdrawing his complaint. In light of this, social media has become a battleground once again as fans debate if the box-office-bomb fate of Millers The Flash was justified or not.

The controversies surrounding Miller in 2022 were seen by many as one of the reasons the release of The Flash in 2023 became a financial disappointment. Along with accusations of burglary and assault, Miller was accused by Chase Iron Eyes of having an inappropriate relationship with his daughter, something that both Miller and Tokata denied. In a lengthy Instagram post, Chase explained how the complaint...

Should The Flash Star Ezra Miller Be Given A Chance To Play The Scarlet Speedster Again?
Image
The Flash star Ezra Miller made a lot of headlines in the build-up to the movie's release for a number of alleged incidents, including disorderly conduct, assault, harassment and burglary.

However, yesterday we learned that Tokata’s father, Chase Iron Eyes, had withdrawn the complaint after claiming that his initial belief was based on a story that has since been recanted.

Michael Keaton Isn't Sorry Batgirl Was Cancelled
Image
Michael Keaton has reflected on his lost Batman return in the scrapped Leslie Grace-led Batgirl movie. While many fans were massively disappointed at the way the movie was shelved, it seems that Keaton himself is very much over it, but does feel bad for the team behind the movie.

Keaton may have reprised his role as Batman in The Flash, but for months prior to that movies release, many fans believed that the original big screen Dark Knight was set to be a more permanent fixture of the Dceu. Along with that appearance, Keaton was originally meant to appear in the canceled Batgirl movie, and there were rumors that he was potentially getting another solo outing as an older version of Bruce Wayne and his crime-fighting alter-ego. However, behind the scenes changes at Warner Bros. Discovery put an end to those dreams when the film was scrapped in favor of a tax write-off.

Nicolas Cages The Flash Cameo, Explained: Was It AI?
Image
Quick Links Nicolas Cage Was Almost Superman Nicolas Cage's Cameo Was Heavily Altered There's a Big Difference Between CGI and AI

The Flash has one of the most interesting development periods in the history of DC films. Announced back in 2014, it went through various directors and release dates before the finished film finally came out in June 2023, as the Dceu was coming to an end and a new Dcu franchise was on the horizon. It was marketed as being one of the best superhero movies of all time, all while dealing with the controversies surrounding its lead star, Ezra Miller. In the end, The Flash came and went, becoming a box office bomb and just one of many failed DC film adaptations.

One of the film's biggest controversies was the CGI, particularly in the film's climax, which saw the filmmakers use digital deep fakes of deceased celebrities like Christopher Reeve...

Deadpool & Wolverines Shawn Levy Considered Directing The Flash
Image
Deadpool & Wolverines director, Shawn Levy, says it was a brief moment in time, but he did contemplate helming Ezra Millers 2023 superhero flick, The Flash. Levy claims that he is offered some IP-based movie every week. The Flash bombed at the 2023 summer box office; Deadpool & Wolverine is currently forecast to make in the neighborhood of $200 million to $240 million.

For a brief moment in time, Deadpool & Wolverines director, Shawn Levy, nearly took on the Ezra Miller-led film, The Flash. In hindsight, it doesnt seem that far-fetched considering Levys resume and the fact that he is helming what is in all likelihood this summers most highly anticipated movie. But Levy wasn't interested in working on a project, any project, that he didn't believe had "a story worth telling."

Levy is spending 2024 ushering in the Merc with a Mouth (Ryan Reynolds), Logan (Hugh Jackman) and countless other Mutants as they all join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Batman & Robin And The Flash Star George Clooney Rumored To Be In Talks For MCU Role
Image
Batman and Robin star George Clooney made a brief appearance as his take on Bruce Wayne in The Flash, but the actor has made it clear that this was a "one and done," and he has no interest in reprising the role again.

Though some fans were happy to see Clooney back as the iconic DC Comics hero, the scene - like the movie itself - proved to be highly divisive, and it was generally felt that the actor was brought back for little more than a quick visual gag.

This cameo aside, the Academy Award-nominated actor has avoided superhero fare since Joel Schumacher's much-maligned Batman movie, but has previously said that he wouldn't necessarily rule out playing a different comic book character if the script was of a high quality.

Now, scooper Mttsh is claiming that Clooney is in talks with Marvel Studios for an undisclosed role.

Clooney...

DC Box Office Bomb Sprints to Surprise Success on Netflix
Image
The Flash climbs Netflix charts after Warner Bros. Discovery licensing change. Ezra Miller's The Flash film features Michael Keaton as Batman, exploring a multiverse. Despite poor box office, The Flash gains popularity on Netflix, while Trigger Warning tops streaming charts.

One of the biggest box office flops in the Dceu has quickly sped its way up to great heights on Netflix. Following a change in licensing from Warner Bros. Discovery, Netflix is now able to stream a variety of the studios movies and TV shows, with last years The Flash finding immediate interest among audiences and fast climbing the Netflix charts.

This week, The Flash found himself at the #2 spot in the Netflix Top 10, with audiences clearly hankering for a taste of the Dceu before James Gunn and Peter Safrans Dcu begins next year with the Superman reboot. Released in June last year, The Flash sees worlds collide when...

The Flash's Best Character Will Unfortunately Be Forgotten
Image
Despite high expectations, The Flash disappointed with poor CGI, controversial decisions, and lack of focus on the Flash character. Sasha Calle's portrayal of a darker and cynical Supergirl stood out, hinting at a promising future for her in the Dceu. Even though Calle's Supergirl was cut short, her career is thriving with acclaimed projects like In the Summers.

The Flash was a movie that was years in the making, and by the time it finally arrived in theaters, it landed not with applause but with a thud. Despite months of Warner Bros. trying to build hype for the movie, with the likes of Tom Cruise and Stephen King calling it the "best superhero movie," the finished film was received negatively by critics and audiences. With a budget ranging between $200 to $222 million, the movie earned less than the 2011 box office bomb Green Lantern, with $108.1 million domestic and $271.3 million worldwide, costing Warner Bros.

‘Atlas’ Writer Aron Eli Coleite Reveals Original Idea for a ‘Blade Runner’-Style Opening
Image
[This story contains spoilers for Atlas]

A movie begins, and Jennifer Lopez opens a suitcase to reveal a robotic head, which she proceeds to interrogate.

How’d that head get in the suitcase? Why is Jennifer Lopez talking to it? The audience doesn’t yet know, but hopefully they are intrigued.

That’s how screenwriter Aron Eli Coleite started one draft of Atlas, the sci-fi movie starring Lopez that hit Netflix May 24. The introduction had shades of the first scene of 1982’s Blade Runner, and was designed to keep an audience engaged in the age of streaming, in which there are near infinite opportunities to click away. “You just don’t want the audience to tune out at any point of like, ‘Oh, I can check out,’ says Coleite. “The danger of Netflix is you have a remote control.”

Ultimately, the team — including director Brad Peyton and producer Joby Harold — felt that while the opening was fun,...
