Development continues on New Line Cinema's adaptation of Activision's 'old school'  video game "Space Invaders", into a live-action feature film, written by Ben Zazove and Evan Turner:

"Space Invaders" (1978) was created by Tomohiro Nishikado, manufactured, sold by Taito, Japan...

...then licensed in the US by the Midway division of Bally as an arcade game.

The title is noted as the first 'fixed shooter' game, earning points by defeating waves of descending aliens with a horizontally moving laser.

Home versions and variations of the game are estimated to have grossed over $13 billion in total revenue as of 2016, making it the highest-grossing video game of all time.

Producers of the new film are Weed Roads Pictures' Akiva Goldsman and Safehouse Pictures' Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, with Warner Bros./New Line Cinema distributing.

One of history’s most iconic arcade games, and one of the pioneering titles in the shoot ’em up gaming genre, Space Invaders tasks players with defending Earth from an alien invasion, shooting down waves of invaders moving across the screen before they reach the ground. Tomohiro Nishikado developed the title, released by Taito in 1978.

Space Invaders‘ commercial success has been described as the catalyst for the golden age of arcade gaming in the late ’70s and early ’80s.

Sasha Calle made her debut as Supergirl in last year's The Flash, but what should have been a joyous introduction to a major superhero franchise was soured by a number of factors, including co-star Ezra Miller's legal troubles, the movie's underperformance at the box office, and the fact that the Dceu was on its last legs.

Universal Pictures has officially landed the rights to acclaimed novelist Julianna Baggott's short story The Hider, with plans to tap Oppenheimer star Robert Downey Jr. for the lead role. Although details so far are minimal, given that the project is still in early development, Downey Jr. is also slated to produce alongside Susan Downey and Amanda Burnell through their production company, Team Downey.

Exclusive: Universal Pictures is looking to get back in business with its Oscar-winning Oppenheimer star as sources tell Deadline the studio has landed the rights to Julianna Baggott’s short story The Hider with Robert Downey Jr. eyed to star. Midthunder is best known for her starring role in the “Predator” film “Prey.” Released in 2022, “Prey” was the fifth film in the “Predator” franchise and earned strong reviews from critics upon its release. She was named one of Variety‘s 10 Actors to Watch that same year. Her other film credits include “The Ice Road,” “Rez Ball,” and the upcoming features “Novocaine” and “Opus.” In television, she previously starred in “Legion” at FX, “Roswell, New Mexico” at The CW, and “Avatar: The Last Airbender” at Netflix.

The Flash star Ezra Miller made a lot of headlines in the build-up to the movie's release for a number of alleged incidents, including disorderly conduct, assault, harassment and burglary.

The most series accusations involved child endangerment and grooming, with a temporary protection order against Miller being issued at the request of the parents of 18-year-old activist Tokata Iron Eyes.

The actor did release a statement taking responsibility for their actions while promising to get the help they need, but not everyone was buying it, and for many, Miller crossed a few too many lines to earn a second chance.

However, yesterday we learned that Tokata’s father, Chase Iron Eyes, had withdrawn the complaint after claiming that his initial belief was based on a story that has since been recanted.

However, behind the scenes changes at Warner Bros. Discovery put an end to those dreams when the film was scrapped in favor of a tax write-off.

The second season of Apple TV+ and Legendary Entertainment’s “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” will shoot in Queensland, Australia. That represents a relocation after the first season of the action-adventure series was largely filmed in Canada’s British Columbia.

Location attraction agency, Screen Queensland said that the show will be able to access state subsidies from provided through the Queensland government’s Production Attraction Strategy. It will be largest ever series to film in the state and generate more than A$115 million ($76 million), the agency said.

The series follows other Legendary Entertainment feature films made in Queensland, “Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire,” “Godzilla vs. Kong”; and Kong: Skull Island.”

Deadpool & Wolverines director, Shawn Levy, says it was a brief moment in time, but he did contemplate helming Ezra Millers 2023 superhero flick, The Flash. Levy claims that he is offered some IP-based movie every week. The Flash bombed at the 2023 summer box office; Deadpool & Wolverine is currently forecast to make in the neighborhood of $200 million to $240 million.

For a brief moment in time, Deadpool & Wolverines director, Shawn Levy, nearly took on the Ezra Miller-led film, The Flash. In hindsight, it doesnt seem that far-fetched considering Levys resume and the fact that he is helming what is in all likelihood this summers most highly anticipated movie. But Levy wasn't interested in working on a project, any project, that he didn't believe had "a story worth telling."
