Kristen Wiig Joins Jonah Hill in Cut Off as Warner Bros. Sets July 2026 Release
Moritz Bleibtreu, Fahri Yardim, Lars Eidinger, and Jasna Fritzi Bauer in Cut Off (2018)
Warner Bros. is moving ahead with Cut Off, a sibling comedy starring Kristen Wiig and Jonah Hill, with Hill directing and co-writing the script with Ezra Woods. The studio has dated the film for July 17, 2026, and plans to begin production this fall in California.

The story centers on adult heirs forced to fend for themselves after their parents sever financial support. The project is budgeted in the high-forties and received a $10 million allocation from California’s film and TV tax credit program, with Hill producing through Strong Baby alongside Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin; Warner Bros. executives Jesse Ehrman and Zach Hamby are overseeing.

The release positions Cut Off opposite Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey on the same July 17, 2026 weekend, setting up a clear example of counter-programming: a mid-budget studio comedy against an IMAX-driven epic that carries a reported $250 million price tag. The Odyssey’s date and scale have...

The Theatrical Comedy Is So Back: Kristen Wiig and Jonah Hill Will Star as Freeloading Siblings in WB’s ‘Cut Off’
Image
Straight-up comedies have struggled to find a foothold in theaters since the pandemic, but after last weekend’s encouraging “The Naked Gun” launch and this weekend’s promising “Freakier Friday” prospect, it looks like studios are ready to invest in comedy all over again.

Variety has shared that Kristen Wiig — the “SNL” alum who powered one of the ’10s most successful laughers, “Bridesmaids” — will co-star with Jonah Hill as siblings in the upcoming Warner Bros. release “Cut Off.”

The pair will play adult siblings forced to adjust to real life after their parents stop paying for them. Ezra Woods co-wrote with Hill, who will also direct. “Cut Off” will hit theaters on July 17, 2026, placing it as counter programming to “The Odyssey,” which — of course — already has sold out advance IMAX screenings for that date, 11.5 months ahead of its actual release.

Wiig will return to live action features for the first...

Cut Off: Kristen Wiig to star alongside Jonah Hill in a comedy about getting left high and dry
Moritz Bleibtreu, Fahri Yardim, Lars Eidinger, and Jasna Fritzi Bauer in Cut Off (2018)
I can’t imagine what it’s like living on Easy Street. Having everything handed to you sounds nice, but I’d miss the satisfaction of an honest day’s work after a while. I say that, but part of me would love it if someone else took the lion’s share of my bills and responsibilities. For the upcoming comedy Cut Off, Jonah Hill and Kristen Wiig are two people who are about to know what it feels like to have everything taken away. Today, we’re hearing that Kristen Wiig will star opposite Jonah Hill in the film shooting this fall, set for a global release on July 17, 2026.

Cut Off‘s release date is bold, considering it’s the same weekend that hosts Christopher Nolan’s next epic, The Odyssey. That’s some stiff competition, even if The Cut Off is a different genre of filmmaking. Ezra Woods is co-writing The Cut Off,...

The outlook for big screen comedies keeps getting brighter, as beloved “Saturday Night Live” alum Kristen Wiig is joining Jonah Hill in his new Warner Bros. feature “Cut Off.”

Wiig has booked the co-lead alongside Hill. They’ll reportedly play wealthy siblings whose parents turn off the money faucet and force their adult kids to support themselves. Hill is directing the project and co-wrote the script with Ezra Woods.

The studio has carved out a July 17, 2026 release date for the comedy, setting the table for a blockbuster summer romp from Wiig and Hill — the team that gave us the viral “Liza Minelli Tries to Turn Off a Lamp” sketch in her “SNL” days.

Netflix Viewers Are Re-Discovering This Star-Studded Sci-Fi Gem Featuring Emma Stone & It’s Blowing Their Minds!
Image
This Underrated Sci-Fi On Netflix Starring Emma Stone Is Gaining Attention Again! (Photo Credit – Netflix)

Netflix quietly dropped Maniac back in 2018, and while it did not make much noise at the time, it is now enjoying a second life. Some viewers are circling back, realizing they may have overlooked one of the platform’s more curious and clever sci-fi offerings.

The show arrived with names like Emma Stone and Jonah Hill leading the way, which should have been enough to grab attention. But Maniac, with its ten-episode arc, did not climb the trending charts or get a second season. That was not a surprise, though, since the creators never planned for more. It stood alone, slipping past many people who were probably caught up in bigger, flashier releases.

What Is Netflix’s Maniac About?

The series takes place inside a drug trial gone sideways. Annie and Owen, played by Emma Stone and Jonah Hill,...

Netflix Is Rebooting William Shatner's 'T.J. Hooker' as an Action Comedy
Image
It's often said that comedy equals tragedy plus time. When it comes to developing new versions of long-since-canceled television series, however, it's just as often true that comedy equals drama plus time, and a recently announced revival of an '80s cop series is just the latest proof.

T.J. Hooker, the William Shatner-led police drama that ran from 1982 to 1986 and gave its lead actor something to do between Star Treksequels, has caught the eye of execs at Netflix, where plans are afoot to leverage the show's basic concept into a new action comedy film. Although the original series took itself fairly seriously, it isn't hard to understand why Netflix sees the potential for laughs — not least because the premise, which revolved around the grumpy, by-the-books Hooker frequently clashing with less old-fashioned co-workers, has been used so many times that it was almost past the point of parody by the time T.

'Never Thought That Would Work': South Park Creators Debunk Fans' Longest-Standing Rumor
Image
South Park’s27th season is now in full swing following a two-year hiatus. The first episode of the season, albeit a controversial one, was the highest-rated season premiere for the raunchy animated series in more than 25 years.

With South Park topping the streaming charts, the series, which debuted on Comedy Central in 1997, is showing no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Per ComicBook.com, the show’s creators, Trey Parker and Matt Stone, have debunked a long-standing rumor that fans would ever see a fully live-action version of Stan, Cartman, Kyle, Kenny, and the rest of the South Park gang.

Although one would wonder how characters like Towelie, Mr. Hankey, and even Mr. Mackey would translate into live-action versions, Parker and Stone shut down the rumor of any type of full-length live-action version of South Park. At Comedy Central’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Parker and Stone were asked...

War of the Worlds Cast Salary: How Much Does Ice Cube and Others Make in Hollywood?
Image
Prime Video’s 2025 screen life take on War of the Worlds was supposed to bring H.G. Wells into the digital era, but instead it crashed spectacularly. It launched to a rare 0% on Rotten Tomatoes. Critics called its all-monitor setup dull and said the heavy Amazon product placement undermined any suspense.

Even a brief stint at No. 1 in Prime Video’s Top Ten couldn’t stop audiences from tuning out. But despite the movie crashing and burning, the cast didn’t walk away empty‑handed. Ice Cube and his co‑stars still pocketed hefty checks. Here’s how each actor fits into the fiasco, the career moments that got them here, and what they earned from one of Hollywood’s biggest streaming flops.

Megamind: The Underrated Superhero Spoof Trending on Streaming
Image
While they did not release exactly the same weekend, this summer has seen a major superhero movie battle between Superman and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. The former hit movie theaters on July 11 and opened to an impressive $125 million. To date, Superman has grossed $551.3 million worldwide.

Then came the release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps two weeks later on July 25. That Marvel movie nearly matched Superman's opening, making $117.6 million. Now, it has amassed $367.4 million worldwide, but its total is still growing. Both films also received strong reviews from both critics and audiences.

The prominence of these movies in theaters has led to increased interest in similar titles at home. Many people have been watching previous Fantastic Four movies, for example, preceding the McU's reboot. The Incredibles, a Pixar film often compared to Fantastic Four, is also trending on Disney+. Now, a movie more comparable to Superman is doing well on streaming.

Dave Franco Reveals Why His Embarrassing ‘Superbad’ Scene Pushed Him to Keep Auditioning
Image
Dave Franco is sharing how his Superbad role turned into one of his most embarrassing moments, on- and offscreen, and actually pushed him to keep auditioning.

In the 2007 buddy comedy starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera, Franco makes a small appearance as Greg the Soccer Player, one of his first onscreen roles. In one of his scenes, Hill’s Seth calls out his character for peeing his pants years prior.

Not only was it an embarrassing scene, Franco revealed during a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, but it also led to a lot of embarrassing fan interactions in public, with people quoting the lines.

“I had a journey with that scene in and of itself, where I only have a few lines in this movie, but the movie was so big that people did recognize me on the street,” the Together actor explained to host Alex Cooper.

Keanu Reeves To Be Reunited With Stolen Watches Including 'John Wick 4' Rolex
Image
In another universe, Keanu Reeves is probably John Wick and would never have allowed the criminals who stole $125,000 worth of watches from his home in 2023 to get away with the heist unscathed. Instead, the nicest man in Hollywood has had to wait two years to hear that his lost timepieces have been recovered and will be heading back to him very soon. As Bill S. Preston Esq. might say, “Excellent!”

The actor’s luxury watch collection was stolen from the actor’s Hollywood Hills home in December 2023. The robbery was one of several in the area which were reported at the time as a large wave of crime in the celebrity-heavy location. The watches, which included a $9,000 Rolex, were recently found as part of a much larger collection of stolen goods during police raids in Santiago. The watches were initially recovered by the Chilean authorities, and after being verified as belonging to Reeves,...

Craig Robinson Quits Comedy- But It’s Not What You Think

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Truth The job of the stand-up, it seems, is that of a surgeon. They dissect, examine, and expose the faults, flaws, and foibles of the public, the powerful, and themselves. In 1960, a Life critic observed this about Nichols and May’s humor: “They hold the human race on a pin and make it laugh at itself while it squirms.” That legacy carried forward- through George Carlin’s blistering social commentary and Richard Pryor’s raw, autobiographical confessions. We’ve since crowned the comedian as the modern philosopher. But even that idea- noble as it sounds- has been dismantled by comedians themselves. Norm Macdonald, never known for intellectual posturing, worked more in the tradition of Bob Hope: clear-cut, joke-first, unpretentious. However, in what was sadly his final Netflix special, Macdonald deadpanned, “[The public] expect [comedians] to know things nowadays.” And when “they say comedians are the modern-day philosophers.

The Live-Action How To Train Your Dragon Movie Fixed The One Issue The Director Had
Image
The great thing about being able to retell your own story is that you can fix your previous mistakes. In the case of 2025's "How to Train Your Dragon," director Dean DeBlois was able to revisit his 2010 animated classic in live-action, improving not only characters like Hiccup and Toothless but also certain plot points from the original film that never made sense to begin with.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter about his second go-around, DeBlois clarified how he could do damage control on a story that had remained untouched for 15 years. One particular example he brought up was a bit of a plot hole in the near-perfect original animated movie, in which the people of Berk deal with the fallout of Toothless bringing down the Red Death. As you may recall, the oversized Alpha swiftly turns the Vikings' ships to kindling after Stoick's (Gerard Butler) attack on the island housing the dragons' nest.

The 8 Best Adam Sandler Movies
Image
Like it or not, Adam Sandler is among the most successful movie stars of the last three decades and has remarkably been able to make films that have resonated with multiple generations of comedy fans. While many former alumni of “Saturday Night Live” struggled to develop film careers, Sandler developed his own brand of ridiculous comedies, which led to the development of Happy Madison Productions. Despite the scathing reviews that many of his films earned from critics during their initial release windows, several have grown cult fandom from those who grew up with them. Sandler was also ahead of the game when it came to the profitability of streaming, as he was among the first Hollywood stars to sign a deal with Netflix.

Sandler has certainly been known to phone it in, as films like “Grown Ups,” “Little Nicky,” “Blended,” and “Jack and Jill” rank among the worst comedies of the 21st century.

The 15 Best Movies Like Superbad
Image
Greg Mottola's "Superbad" did R-rated comedy super good, becoming an instant classic on release in 2007. The insanely-quotable, super-raunchy follows the story of Evan (Michael Cera) and Seth (Jonah Hill), two high school seniors who are looking forward to one wild night of partying before they graduate. They're sex-obsessed, eager to drink as much as possible, and desperate to prove that they're as cool as their peers ... even though, c'mon, it's high school. No one's cool.

"Superbad" catapulted its leads to stardom, but the behind-the-scenes story of the movie was just as impactful on the comedy scene of that decade. In addition to being produced by Judd Apatow, "Superbad" was written by Seth Rogen and his childhood friend Evan Goldberg, and their unmistakable comedic sensibility would go on to influence the whole genre.

If you're looking for other movies like "Superbad," you could do a whole lot worse than seeing...

Steve Carell's $300 Million Animated Hit With a 'Wolf of Wall Street' Star is a Streaming Smash 17 Years Later
Image
Such is the nature of the ever-revolving door of animated movies; many once-beloved projects will soon find themselves lost to time. Boasting a strong "certified fresh" 79% critics' score and 73% from audiences on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, the 2008 family-friendly adventure Horton Hears a Who!, based on Dr. Seuss' classic 1954 book of the same name, was once a huge success at the end of the noughties.

Directed by the duo of Jimmy Hayward and Steve Martino, the movie was a certain success upon arrival, but has found itself falling out of discourse as more relevant animated projects have since been released. This is made even more surprising when learning of the movie's stacked voice cast, headlined by the duo of Steve Carell and Jim Carrey. Alongside the two comedy giants are the likes of Carol Burnett, Will Arnett, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Isla Fisher, Amy Poehler, and many more in what reads...

Leonardo DiCaprio's Controversial Award-Winning Biopic Becomes a Free Streaming Hit 12 Years Later
Image
Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are a bankable combination in Hollywood, having collaborated on several box office hits. One of the duo's most successful -- and polarizing -- entries has found new momentum on the streaming charts, as The Wolf of Wall Street becomes a hit over a decade after its premiere.

Per Collider, The Wolf of Wall Street is now a free streaming sensation, ranking 7th on Pluto TV's Top 10 movies chart. The 2013 film has been making waves on streaming in 2025; it also landed on the Hulu charts in April.

Directed by Scorsese and penned by Tulsa King's Terence Winter, The Wolf of Wall Street was based on the titular memoir by stockbroker and businessman turned criminal Jordan Belfort. DiCaprio portrayed Belfort, chronicling how he built a fraudulent empire through rampant corruption on Wall Street -- while charming those around him and blowing some of his fortune on drugs.

Leonardo DiCaprio's Oscar-Nominated 79% Rotten Tomatoes Classic Is a Free Streaming Hit
Image
Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street is back in the spotlight, and somehow, it's wilder than ever. The 2013 biopicis currently sitting at #7 on Pluto TV's most-watched list, reminding us all that, yes, America is still weirdly obsessed with stories about charismatic white-collar criminals. And if you missed it the first (or fifth) time around, now is your chance to watch the chaos unfold – for free. Some biopics want you to admire their subject. This one wants you to question your soul.

The Wolf of Wall Street follows Jordan Belfort, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, a real-life stockbroker who built a fraudulent empire by scamming rich people, blowing money on drugs, and turning the stock market into his personal Vegas. And somehow, we can’t look away. Maybe that’s the point. Belfort doesn’t just chase the American Dream – he injects it directly into his bloodstream. “That's the movie,...

Ryan Gosling Is Earth’s Only Hope in ‘Project Hail Mary’ Trailer
Image
Ryan Gosling isn’t convinced that venturing to outer space seems like a blast in the first trailer for Amazon MGM Studios’ sci-fi movie Project Hail Mary.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller directed the film that hits theaters March 20, 2026. Sandra Hüller and Milana Vayntrub also star in the feature that adapts author Andy Weir’s novel of the same name.

Project Hail Mary centers on middle school teacher Ryland Grace (Gosling), who finds himself on a spaceship with no memory of his past or how he ended up there. His interstellar mission, which must be successfully completed in order to save Earth from a potential disaster, leads him to meet a mysterious alien who also seeks to save his own species.

The film’s first footage debuted at CinemaCon in April and included Hüller delivering a dire warning. “The sun is not the only star dying,” she explains in the trailer.

When Meryl Streep Thought Her Co-Stars Insulted Her Until This A-Lister Clarified She’s “The Goat!”
Image
What Did Meryl Streep Think When Others Called Her Goat? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

It turns out that calling someone a Goat on set needs some context, especially when the person is Meryl Streep. While promoting Don’t Look Up, Jennifer Lawrence shared a hilarious mix-up that had the three-time Oscar winner thinking her co-stars had been roasting her instead of paying respect. Per EW, during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, she alluded that the cast casually referred to Streep as “the Goat.” However, Streep didn’t get the memo.

When Meryl Streep Thought “Goat” Meant… An Actual Goat

It all came to a head during a photoshoot when Streep misunderstood the nickname and jokingly referred to herself as “the old goat.” That’s when Lawrence realized the problem. “We offhandedly call Meryl ‘The Goat,’” Lawrence told Colbert. “Meryl kind of said, ‘That’s right, just tell the old goat where to go.

Seth Rogen Claims This VHS Tape Would End His Career If Found
Image
Imagine, if you will, a world where Seth Rogen — an actor and writer known for everything from "Freaks & Geeks" to "Superbad" and "Knocked Up" — appeared in "Gigli," the 2003 movie that may or may not have fractured stars Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez's relationship for the first time. Apparently, that kind of almost happened, and Rogen claims that his audition is so deeply offensive that if anyone ever found the tape, he'd be ruined forever.

At this point, I'd like to put forth the idea that Rogen has accrued enough cultural goodwill by just being a seemingly good dude — look no further than his continued and passionate support for Alzheimer's research and care provided by the government, as just one example — but he's probably right that this video should never see the light of day. See, the role that Rogen auditioned for is Brian, a mentally challenged young man...

Barbra Streisand Is Out of ‘Focks’ for ‘Meet the Parents 4’ Sequel After Unfair Pay
Image
Barbra Streisand has been portraying roles in Hollywood for quite a long time. Although her filmography spans decades of hard work, Meet the Fockers is one of her most famous movies, which was a comedy film from back in 2004.

The film eventually turned into a franchise with sequels, which later became known as the Meet the Parents franchise. Well, recent news broke out that Meet the Parents 4 was confirmed to be in development, with a majority of the cast returning to reprise their roles. However, Barbra Streisand rejected the offer because she still holds a grudge over her paycheck from the original 2004 movie.

How much was Barbara Streisand paid for ‘Meet the Parents’?

Although the exact remuneration for a film is never revealed by an actor, it seems that Barbra Streisand was paid significantly less compared to some of her male co-stars, and she’s still angry about that.

7 Charming Movies Like ‘Deep Cover’ to Watch Next
Image
“Deep Cover” is one of the more underrated films of the year so far. Quietly released in mid-June on Amazon’s Prime Video, the British action comedy follows a trio of improv actors who are recruited by the police to go undercover and infiltrate a dangerous criminal gang. “Deep Cover” has a lot of fun stretching its absurd premise as far as it can go. It is charming, light on its feet and deserving of more publicity and promotion than it has so far received.

If you are one of the viewers who has been charmed by it, here are seven movies like “Deep Cover” that you should watch next.

“Game Night” (Warner Bros. Pictures) “Game Night” (2018)

One of the best comedies of the past decade, “Game Night” has everything you could want from a comedy about a group of people who — much like the ill-equipped actors in “Deep Cover...

10 Best Actors Almost Cast In Matt Reeves' The Batman
Image
The story of how Matt Reeves' "The Batman" marched its way into existence deserves its own film. Not only was it born out of the ashes of Ben Affleck's "The Batman," which would have been like David Fincher's "The Game," but it also encountered several production setbacks due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the following uncertainty of whether or not audiences would return to theaters. In the end, Reeves and Co. delivered a remarkable and brooding Dark Knight film that doesn't look out of place next to its contemporaries or other Bat flicks. Plus, it also helps that it received stellar reviews across the board and made serious bank at the box office.

While the movie turned out great overall, it could have looked much different had certain actors been cast instead of who we finally saw in the roles. Like with any other blockbuster, numerous performers spoke to casting directors,...

‘The Mortician’ Becomes HBO’s Most-Watched Documentary Series In Over 5 Years
Image
Exclusive: The Mortician is piquing audience interest for HBO.

The three-part documentary series, which chronicles the inhumane practices at a funeral home in Southern California, debuted on June 1. Since then, the show has tallied more than 2.6M cross-platform viewers in the U.S., per the network.

It’s now the most-watched HBO documentary series in over five years. That means it’s beat out some high profile documentaries like Pee-wee as Himself, Chimp Crazy, Love Has Won: The Cult of Mother God and more.

This is certainly a strong performance for the series, likely aided by the vote of confidence from HBO to place it in the network’s marquee 9 p.m. Sunday night slot, following on the heels of The Last of Us, The White Lotus and The Gilded Age. That generally has signaled to viewers that a series should be on their radar and thus can be a force for driving engagement.
