We’re back in December 2020, and Paramount announces a new dinosaur-themed animated series titled Ark: The Animated Series. The series was announced via a trailer during the 2020 Video Game Awards, also revealing that the series would be featuring a star-filled cast that would include Gerard Butler, David Tennant, Michelle Yeoh, Jeffrey Wright, Zahn McClarnon, Elliot Page, Karl Urban, Malcolm McDowell, Alan Tudyk, Russell Crowe, and Vin Diesel, all of whom will also serve as the executive producers of the series.

The series was based on the Ark: Survival Evolved video game, with the game’s creators Jeremy Stieglitz and Jesse Rapczak serving as the creators of the series as well. In June 2022, as the series entered post-production, it was revealed that both Monica Bellucci and Dee Bradley Baker had joined the series as well, with Gareth Coker as the composer. And that was more or less it for a while.

Paramount+ has unveiled the first six episodes of Ark: The Animated Series, which are now streaming on the service as of today. But the first season won’t be limited to just this batch, as a second part to the season will host seven more episodes, although the release date for those has yet to be announced.

While I haven’t played the source video game (Ark: Survival Evolved), the voice cast for Ark: The Animated Series definitely piques interest, as it hosts Oscar winners, fan favorites and even Doctors…The partial cast list includes Madeleine Madden, Michelle Yeoh, Russell Crowe, Gerard Butler, Jeffrey Wright, David Tennant, Elliot Page, Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, and more.

Paramount+ today announced that the first six episodes of Ark: The Animated Series, an all-new original series based on the hit adventure video game Ark: Survival Evolved, are available to stream now exclusively on Paramount+ in the U.S. and Canada.

The series will debut in all other Paramount+ international markets starting Friday, April 19. Part two of the season will debut with seven new episodes at a later date.

After years of silence on the project, the Ark: The Animated Series trailer has arrived, revealing the first proper look at Netflix's latest video game adaptation. The series will be based on the Studio Wildcard game of the same name, with game creators Jeremy Stieglitz and Jesse Rapczak having developed the show, while Marguerite Bennett, best known for her wok on the Josie and the Pussycats and A-Force comics, is writing with Kendall Deacon Davis. Vin Diesel has picked up a new gig as president of creative convergence for the video game developer Studio Wildcard, and the first order of business for the Fast & Furious star is to spearhead an Ark video game sequel and animated series adaptation. In addition to serving as an executive producer for both the Ark II game and cartoon series, Diesel will lend his voice and likeness to Santiago, the hero character that will appear in both iterations.

"I'm having a lot of fun playing Ark and also really excited to join the Studio Wildcard team to develop the story both in game and in the new animated series," Diesel said in a statement.

Developer Studio Wildcard is keen to release popular action-adventure game Ark: Survival Evolved on PlayStation 4, though recently lamented the lack of an early access program on Sony’s current-gen system.

Given that an early build of the survival title debuted for PC and Xbox One before the turn of the year, the developer is currently working towards a final version of Ark, and only then will it make the jump to PS4.

Speaking with GameSpot, Wildcard Creative Director Jesse Rapczak shed new light on the upcoming port, and why he wishes Sony had some form of early access program.

“There are a few exceptions that we’re not quite sure why they made an exception for one game or the other, but Ark is in the state where at present time unless it’s finished, it’s not coming out on PS4 until they have some other program that allows us to do that.

Dinosaur games aren't necessarily new, and neither are open-world survival games (like DayZ, H1Z1, etc) but there's a new game coming out that's combining the two in a way that looks like a lot of fun and lets you ride giant freaking crocodiles. Sign me up for Ark: Survival Evolved.

To be entirely honest, this online survival game genre has pretty much passed me by, and I'm not all that sorry. I like the ideas behind them, but nothing about it has made me all that interested in picking them up (though part of it may also be due to time constraints).
