John Oates Cements His Americana Cred at BMI Troubadour Ceremony
Image
When John Oates moved to Nashville in 2010 to work on his next solo album, he didn’t do what so many pop stars before him had done and pander to a mainstream country music audience. Instead, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame member immersed himself in the city’s roots music community, collaborating with pickers, producers, and songwriters like Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and the late great Mike Henderson to create the celebration of Americana music Mississippi Mile.

Many in that same community assembled to pay tribute to Oates on...

John Oates on Life After Hall & Oates: ‘I’m Trying to Rediscover Who I Am as an Individual’
Image
For the majority of John Oates’ professional career, solo work was a means to keep busy and creatively fulfilled between the Daryl Hall & John Oates projects that took up most of his time. But now that the duo has hopelessly fractured after more than 50 years of partnership, Oates has the time to concentrate all his energies on his own music, beginning with his new LP, Reunion, out May 17.

The album is the culmination of years of work and features original compositions he wrote with A.J. Croce, Keith Sykes, Jim Lauderdale,...

He Used Plastic Surgery to Raise Rock Stars From the Dead
Image
Elvis Presley had been dead for six months when the plastic-surgeon’s knife plunged into Dennis Wise. There Wise lay, on a table in an Orlando hospital, surrounded by photos of the King. He knew what was coming, but the reality of it didn’t really hit him until the doctor, who seemed like a nice enough guy, started carving into his face. “All of a sudden, it started hurting real bad,” Wise recalls. “He said, ‘Give me something!’ and a nurse came over and plunged this needle into me.

'American Idol': Bo Bice's new album '3' due out May 18
"American Idol" runner-up Bo Bice is releasing an aptly titled third album -- "3" -- on May 18.

The press release describes the album as "soulful southern blues and rock, gospel-like choruses, Americana and a touch of country, the new album is much like Bice himself; irresistibly likeable, filled with easygoing charm and undeniable talent."

Bo says of the album, "I feel the new CD is my strongest to date, filled with a plethora of sounds that show people who the real Bo Bice is. There's something for everyone: country, soul, rock & roll...it's like your favorite pair of jeans; it just feels right."

On this new offering, Bo wrote half of the songs by himself and collaborated with other artists on the writing of the rest. He also plays both acoustic and electric guitar. Joining him are Black Crowes drummer Steve Gorman and keyboardist A.J. Croce, son of legendary artist Jim Croce.
