Horror-Scopes Volume 3: Dark Zodiac is the second in a series of annual anthology collections from independent film studio Mycho, which brings together multiple indie horror talents to tell twelve terrifying tales of, this time around, “dark zodiac” based horoscopes, encountering fate’s dark side: misfortune, fear, and terror.

Welcome to the latest edition of our regular crowdfunding feature here on Nerdly – Back This! – where we take a look at some of the cool content taking the crowdfunding route on sites such as Indiegogo, Sponsume and Kickstarter. This month we’re spotlighting a new animated short from the filmmaker behind the well-received Toll Booth… Black Lake.

Black Lake is a new animated short thriller project from award winners Martin Stocks and James Wren. They are currently crowdfunding through an Indiegogo campaign which will be running until May 28th. There are several perks available which you can find right here.

Synopsis:

A man wakes in a dark, foggy, beautiful, yet hostile world after causing a fatal car crash. He navigates this place, initially spellbound by its stunning ethereal nature, and its pitch-black lake with small floating stars. Dread quickly sets in as he realises the malevolent dangers lurking beneath the surface of this half-dead world.

Film London has awarded 21 filmmaking teams across the capital with funds to make short films through its London Calling and London Calling Plus initiatives. A record 620 applications were received this year.

The scheme invests more than $300,000 (£200,000) in London’s short filmmakers with production funding, training and a platform to showcase the films to the industry.

Last year’s slate included Riz Ahmad’s Daytimer, which premiered at Sundance; the BAFTA-nominated Three Brothers; and Loco Award-winning Two Dosas.

This year’s slate includes Chick or Treat from rising internet stars Mandem On The Wall; The Monster, which will star Richard Glover (A Field In England, Sightseers); Rainbow Party, which marks the directorial debut of BAFTA-nominated producer Eva Sigurdardottir; and Above, which was scripted by award-winning playwright Michael Bhim.
