Waiting for Britney Spears is a gonzo tale of fluorescent noir, in which she’s the femme fatale who’s relentlessly stalked by hordes of paparazzi, along with a reluctant, shambolic Britney beat reporter — who may or may not be an exact stand-in for the author.

“I’m calling it a hybrid memoir,” says its writer, Jeff Weiss, who really did spend a stint of his 20s incurring Ptsd on the front lines of the tabloid trenches at magazines like Ok! and Star. (In the book, the slightly fun-house-mirrored depictions are referred to as Hi! and Nova.) “My joke is that it’s my Slaughterhouse-Five,” he says. “My firebombing of Dresden was getting arrested on Brad Pitt’s property.

In addition to an intimate interview with Sway Calloway, Spears lets cameras inside the recording studio with her and will.i.am (who produced the track "Big Fat Bass"), as she chills with her assistant at Starbucks, and to Las Vegas as she takes the stage at the Palms Hotel and Casino for a show-stopping performance of three Femme Fatale tracks ("Hold It Against Me," "Till The World Ends" and "Big Fat Bass"). She even got an assist in the DJ booth from DJ Pauly D.

Last Friday, Britney Spears brought her own razzle-dazzle to the already-glittering city of Las Vegas. She played a fan-pleasing three-song set at Rain nightclub at the Palms Hotel and Casino, where the show was being taped for an MTV special airing this week.

Hours before Britney took the stage, MTV News caught up with Palms owner George Maloof, who gushed about how awesome it was to have Britney on hand for her first Femme Fatale live performance.

"I think this one's going to be really over-the-top," he said of Spears' show, which will be included in the MTV special. "And we're all excited about her new album, and I heard it's spectacular, so here we go: Britney Spears at the Palms.

The performances were filmed by MTV as part of an upcoming Britney Spears special that will air next week in celebration of her album release.

In front of more than a thousand fans, Spears delivered songs from her latest album, Femme Fatale including the singles, “Hold it Against Me,” “Till the World Ends” and “Big Fat Bass.”

“We are extremely excited to have one of the most iconic artists of all time back at the Palms. Wiz Khalifa, Pitbull, Lupe Fiasco and Jason Derülo will help get the party rocking this year at MTV's Spring Break 2011 in Las Vegas. They'll be joined by "Jersey Shore" star Pauly D, who'll hold down the DJ duties at the Palms Casino Resort.

The festivities are scheduled to run March 6 through March 9 and air on MTV, MTV2 and mtvU. The aforementioned artists join Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Eminem and the Notorious B.I.G. in the pantheon of standout MTV Spring Break performers.

This is the second consecutive year MTV will venture to Sin City for spring break. Last year, Ludacris, B.o.B and Bruno Mars helped ignite the party in Las Vegas after 2009's voyage to Panama City Beach in Florida.

Las Vegas entrepreneur and casino owner George Maloof has been charged with drink driving following his arrest last month.

The 46-year-old mogul, who runs the Palms Casino Resort, was pulled over by cops, who caught him speeding through Sin City and making an illegal left turn.

And on Tuesday, Maloof was officially charged with DUI, speeding, improper turning, driving without a valid license, and operating a vehicle without security, according to TMZ.com.

George Maloof -- part owner of the Sacramento Kings and The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas -- told cops he was under the influence of Ambien and Corona when he sped down a Vegas street and lost control of his car earlier this month.

TMZ has obtained the police report, which says Maloof was going 72 Mph in a 45 Mph zone when he lost control of his vehicle trying to make a left turn and drove into oncoming traffic.

Maybe more significant -- Maloof told cops he popped an Ambien 20 minutes before losing control. Oh yeah, he also said he had 4 Coronas.

Maloof's blood alcohol level was .091 -- which exceeded the legal limit and does not account for the Ambien reaction.

One final thing, in the report, the officer said to Maloof, "Without looking at your watch, do you know what time it is?...

Las Vegas entrepreneur and casino owner George Maloof is facing a string of charges after he was arrested for driving under the influence (DUI) on Saturday night.

The 46-year-old mogul, who runs the Palms Casino Resort, was taken into custody at the Clark County Detention Center after cops pulled him over in Sin City for speeding and making an illegal left turn.

He was subsequently accused of DUI and was booked on additional counts of driving without a valid licence and failing to produce proof of insurance, reports TMZ.com.

Making their annual passing of the guard, Playboy hosted a fancy ceremony crowning the 2010 Playboy Playmate of the Year in Las Vegas, Nevada on Saturday night (May 15).

On Friday night, to pay tribute to the life of the late DJ Am, Rain nightclub at the Palms Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas went quiet. DJ Am, born Adam Goldstein, had a weekly gig at the club.

The Las Vegas Sun reports that despite the expensive and complicated sound and light system, the Vegas club turned it all down to observe a moment of silence for Am. It was a far cry from the way the club usually celebrated Am on Friday nights, when he would assume his spot at the turntables just after midnight. Am's friend and opening act, R.O.B, paid tribute to the DJ.

Stars such as Lindsay Lohan, Sean "Diddy" Combs, John Mayer and Alyssa Milano are tweeting their heartfelt reactions to the report that celebrity club disc jockey Adam Goldstein (a.k.a. DJ Am) was found dead. First, we have the final message the late star posted on his own Twitter account. DJ Am’s final Twitter message, posted on August 25, reads: "New york, new york. The Miss Universe Organization has announced the celebrity judges for the 2009 beauty pageant, which will air live on NBC on August 23.

The organization owners, NBC Universal and Donald Trump, along with President Paula Shugart, announce the judges for the contest, which includes former "Superman" star Dean Cain and ""Law & Order" actress Tamara Tunie.

Eminem's new song called "We Made You" has been unveiled, featuring lines which shoot down celebrity socialite Kim Kardashian. Produced by Dr. Dre, the track is confirmed to be the first single from the Slim Shady's upcoming sixth studio album "Relapse".

In addition to dissing Kardashian, Eminem also mocks other Hollywood public figures, including Jessica Simpson, Lindsay Lohan, Ellen DeGeneres and Sarah Palin. He has filmed a music video for the song with Dr. Dre and 50 Cent, and will premiere it soon.

Rumours of a Las Vegas concert surfaced online last month after the Palms Hotel + Casino boss was spotted meeting with Spears in Los Angeles.

Spears' former manager Larry Rudolph recently refuted the claims, but internet gossips have since sparked new speculation after the pop star flew into the gambling Mecca on Thursday.

But Maloof Jr. insists plans for a Vegas concert "didn't come up" during their previous discussions, although he admits it is a good idea.
