Clare-Hope Ashitey (Top Boy) Christian Näthe (Ballon) and Karima McAdams (Dune: Prophecy) are set as series regulars for the second season of Apple TV+’s thriller series Hijack. They will join star and executive producer Idris Elba, along with fellow series regulars Toby Jones, Lisa Vicari and Christiane Paul.

Plot details on season two are being kept under wraps. Filming is currently underway in the UK.

BBC Studios has announced the titles coming to BritBox in July 2024, which include everything from new BritBox Originals to classic British fare. BritBox is a digital video subscription service offering the largest collection of British TV in the U.S. and Canada.

Production is underway on the second series of Funny Woman, the Sky comedy drama based on the 2014 novel by Nick Hornby.

Gemma Arterton stars as a budding comedian inspired by Lucille Ball, who attempts to make a name for herself in the oppressive, male dominated culture of 1960s London. Production is now underway on the second series, which will comprise four hour-long episodes.

The synopsis for the new series reads as follows:

Series 2 finds Sophie on a high. She is the nation’s favourite TV comedy star; she’s got a group of good friends and her romance with Dennis is full of promise. But trouble is just round the corner: Dennis’s divorce will take three years; Sophie’s new sitcom flops and she uncovers a devastating family secret.

A scrapped episode of What If...? featuring a dark Spider-Man storyline was compared to the dystopian film Children of Men. The episode was not included in the second season due to delays caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. In "Children of Men," world governments have started to break down as panic in the last generation takes hold — a shot showing flames and a marching mob in the streets of Washington D.C. is uncomfortably prescient. Only the United Kingdom "soldiers on," but it has become an authoritarian, nationalist state.

The streets are filled with trash and lined with cages housing refugees. The scariest part is how this world doesn't look like a distant future, but merely a worse version of the present. When our reluctant hero Theo Faron (Clive Owen) rides a commuting train, it resembles one you could take in England today.

Much of the pre-release discussion about Confession, (not to be confused with the 2020 serial killer film of the same name) centred on its stars Colm Meaney and Stephen Moyer. And although they both are excellent actors, that wasn’t why I decided to review it.

I was more interested in writer/director David Beton, Aka Ronnie Thompson. As Ronnie Thompson, he’d directed, but not written, the tense thriller Tower Block. And as David Beton, he’d co-written, but not directed, The Banishing, an enjoyable ghost story that also had significant religious content. I was curious to see what he could do filling both roles.

The series follows the character’s journey from Blackpool beauty queen to comedy superstar and nation’s sweetheart. The new Gemma Arterton comedy series is about a young woman from Blackpool finding her comic voice in the male dominated world of the 1960s sitcom. Clare-Hope Ashitey (Riviera), Arsher Ali (Informer) and Alexa Davies (White House Farm) will also star with more cast to be confirmed.

Potboiler and Rebel Park Productions are producing, in association with Sky Studios. Executive producers are Nick Hornby, Gemma Arterton, Morwenna Banks, Andrea Calderwood, Gail Egan, Jessica Parker and Jessica Malik. Also starring Clare-Hope Ashitey (Children of Men) and written and directed by David Beton (The Hatton Garden Job, Tower Block), the film follows a wounded, bloodied man (Moyer) who takes a priest (Meaney) hostage, hell-bent on confessing a vengeful truth before it is too late. The seemingly random encounter is soon revealed to be anything but as the two men’s lives are inextricably linked....

ABC intends to shoot five pilots once production can safely resume and is rolling three projects to its next pilot cycle.

The network is picking up the cast options for the five projects that it has committed to producing this year through to September 30.

This includes dramas Rebel, starring Katey Sagal and Andy Garcia and Delroy Lindo’s Harlem’s Kitchen, as well as comedies Bossy, which was formerly known as Kids Matter Now, Topher Grace’s Home Economics and Work Wife.

Rolled over into its ‘second cycle’ development are Adopted, National Parks Service, which was formerly known as Isb and Triage.

That leaves Prospect, Wreckage and the Untitled Kapnek/Holland Project, which was formerly known as Wild Child.

This comes as it has also decided not to move forward with the reboot of Thirtysomething, Valley Trash and Brides.

ABC’s drama pilot “Harlem’s Kitchen” has cast Clare-Hope Ashitey, Adrianna Mitchell, and Pepi Sonuga, Variety has learned.

The series is described as an ensemble family drama set in a fine dining restaurant in Harlem. They join previously announced cast member Delroy Lindo, who will play Ellis Rice, the head chef at the restaurant at the heart of the series.

Ashitey will play Zadie, the eldest Rice daughter. Ivy League educated, Zadie could work anywhere she wants but her perpetual sense of responsibility brought her back to Rice as the front-of-house manager. She never wants to disappoint her parents. But all of the pressure has led Zadie into a third-life crisis that could jeopardize everything she has achieved. It may also work to set her free.

In today’s TV news roundup, “She-Ra and the Princess of Power” Season 4 adds Jacob Tobia, and The Weather Channel announces the premiere date for its climate change special with the 2020 Democratic presidential candidates.

Jacob Tobia has joined Netflix‘s “She-Ra and the Princess of Power.” Voicing Double Trouble, Tobia joins Aimee Carrero, Karen Fukuhara, Aj Michalka, Marcus Scribner and Lauren Ash in the ensemble cast. Tobia is repped by Paradigm and Peikoff Mahan. The Emmy-nominated series, produced by DreamWorks Animation, returns Nov. 5.

Sherlock’s Rupert Graves is joining the third season of Sky drama Riviera.

The Svod service has also unveiled the first images for the format bending series.

Here’s a series taking a new spin on the old British procedural. Netflix is bringing us an anthology series that set in four different countries, with different casts and directors, and different stories… that are all set in the interrogation rooms in police stations.

The series will be set in France, Spain, Germany and the U.K. The series is described by Deadline as a “stripped down, cat-and-mouse drama that will focus on the intense mental conflict between the police officer and the suspect in question” that will be written, directed, and produced by the local language and talent to each country.

Guest stars in the British installments include David Tennant (“Good Omens”), Hayley Atwell (“Agent Carter”), Youssef Kerkour (“Dracula”) and Clare-Hope Ashitey (“Doctor Foster”). George Kay (“Killing Eve”) and Jim Field Smith (“Endeavour”) are the showrunners.

The Idiotlamp-produced series was filmed at Netflix’s new production hub in Madrid. The series bows globally on Netflix in the fall.
