It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia's Eric Biermann Tribute Explained
Image
The season 17 premiere of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" (which was also the second half of the show's crossover with "Abbott Elementary") ended with a tribute to someone most "It's Always Sunny" fans aren't familiar with. "In loving memory of Eric Biermann," said a title card at the start of the credits, accompanied by a picture of the man sporting some very nice sunglasses. But who is Biermann exactly, and what's his connection to "It's Always Sunny"?

Eric Biermann, it turns out, is the brother of Todd Biermann, a director of 17 "It's Always Sunny" episodes, including classics like "The Gang Gets Analyzed" in season 8 and "Mac & Dennis Move to the Suburbs" in season 11. Most recently, Todd directed the season 17 premiere, which is likely why this is the episode that features a shoutout to his brother. Eric Biermann unexpectedly passed away on October 12, 2024, at just 42 years old.

A Philadelphia resident himself,...

Who Is Karen Read: 5 Things You Should Know About Her Murder Trial
Image
Karen Read used to be a quiet suburbanite with a successful career as a financial analyst until her life was turned upside down by charges that would go on to dominate headlines for over three years. This all started on January 29, 2022, when she was arrested following the death of her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe.

Apparently, O’Keefe was found dead in the snow outside a friend’s home in Canton, Massachusetts. This had Read being embroiled in a murder trial that had authorities alleging that she had deliberately hit her late boyfriend with her Lexus SUV in anger, after a night of drinking and arguing, before driving away from the scene.

Per People, she was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter while operating under the influence, motor vehicle homicide, and leaving the scene of a fatal accident resulting in death. Read, however, consistently denied the allegations, asserting that she...

John Cena Explains How the ‘Matchbox’ Movie Will be Different Than Netflix's Global Hit Action Series [Exclusive]
Image
The success of Barbie in 2023 sent a ripple throughout Hollywood that resulted in some interesting choices regarding future projects based on established IPs. Although the Matchbox movie was announced in 2022 before Barbie’s release, the film’s success likely put Matchbox on the fast track after seeing the potential for box office returns. Matchbox recruited WWE legend John Cena to star in the lead role, with Sam Hargrave hopping into the director’s chair. Hargrave is a veteran stunt coordinator who also directed both of Chris Hemsworth’s Extraction movies. Collider’s Steve Weintraub recently sat down for an interview with John Cena to talk about his new Prime Video movie,Heads of State (Idris Elba), and he asked if there was anything he could say about the film, and he teased how it differs from his previous work on Extraction:

"The thing I love about Matchbox is Sam also...

Helldivers 2 Boss Johan Pilestedt on Fans’ Limitless Thirst for New Content: “People say, can’t they add this or do that”
Image
Ever wonder why your brilliant suggestion for Helldivers 2 hasn’t made it into the game yet? Johan Pilestedt has some thoughts about that. The Arrowhead Game Studios boss recently dropped some truth bombs about player expectations versus development reality.

Turns out, adding that “simple” feature you’ve been requesting all along might not be so simple after all. Who could have predicted that game development involves more than just pressing the “add cool stuff” button?

And it is this disconnect—between what players think should be easy and what actually breaks developers’ brains—that has never been more apparent than in today’s live service era.

The “just add it” mentality meets development hell

Players love throwing around suggestions like confetti at a Super Earth victory parade. Want permanent Seaf soldiers? Easy! More weapons? Obviously! New planets every week? Why not! The reality check hits differently when you understand the actual complexity involved.

5 Best Heroes to Pair With Jeff the Land Shark in Marvel Rivals
Image
Your PC isn’t the only thing getting chomped in Marvel Rivals these days. Jeff the Land Shark has been terrorizing backlines since the game’s December 2024 debut; and unlike other Strategists who focus primarily on healing, this chompy boy thrives as a backline disruptor who can occasionally pop back to top off teammates.

But who should you pair with this adorable engine of chaos? While Jeff can handle himself with his borderline broken mobility and self-healing capabilities, the right teammates can transform him from annoying to absolutely devastating.

Best team composition for Jeff the Land Shark in Marvel Rivals

If you’ve spent any time with or against Jeff in Marvel Rivals, you know he’s not your typical healer. His “Hide and Seek” ability, paired with his chunky primary attacks, grants him incredible mobility, self-sustain, and damage output—making him more of a Duelist in Strategist clothing.

Why Jonathan Tropper couldn’t have made ‘Your Friends and Neighbors’ without Jon Hamm
Image
As a novelist and screenwriter, Jonathan Tropper has a career many would envy. Trooper has written several significant feature films – including an adaptation of his novel This Is Where I Leave You — and created or written for multiple popular genre shows, including Banshee and Warrior. However, Your Friends and Neighbors is the first time he’s gotten to make the kind of television series that he always wanted.

“When I tried to sell TV 12 years ago, I was trying to sell shows like this, when nobody would buy them,” Tropper tells Gold Derby. “I ended up selling Banshee, and that put me on a track for the next 10 to 12 years of my life making action genre television. But making television is making television. I’ve learned all the skills about doing it, and I still cared about character, cared about tone. I understood how to write for production, revise for production,...

Out of all the Star Wars projects that have been announced in recent memory, Shawn Levy’s mystery project is the most intriguing. With credits like Deadpool & Wolverine, Stranger Things, All We Imagine as Light, Levy has carved a niche for himself that is supported by fan favor and critics’ approval. So fans were excited when it was announced that he'd be helming a project, and things got even more interesting with Ryan Gosling joiningthe Galaxy Far, Far Away. While details on the project have been scarce, writer Jonathan Tropper revealed that the film will be dropping sooner than anticipated.

Star Wars’ Best-Kept Secret: Shawn Levy’s Movie To Launch Soon With Ryan Gosling Leading The Charge?
Image
Is Shawn Levy Making A Star Wars Movie With Ryan Gosling? (Photo Credit – Wikipedia)

There’s a quiet but growing buzz around Shawn Levy’s Star Wars project, one that’s starting to sound more like a countdown than a question mark. While most fans have fixed their eyes on The Mandalorian and Grogu, currently locked in for a May 2026 release, another contender might just sneak in faster than expected. It is Levy’s mysterious Star Wars entry, potentially starring Ryan Gosling.

Jonathan Tropper Teases A Quicker Arrival

In an interview with ScreenRant, Jonathan Tropper, penning Levy’s galactic venture, recently dropped a subtle but significant hint that things are moving faster than we thought. While he was tight-lipped, which is unsurprising for a Star Wars project, his comments carried the tone of someone who knows the engine is already humming in the hangar.

Mad Men 2.0?

Well, not exactly — but Jon Hamm’s charming yet flawed character Coop, in the upcoming Apple TV+ series Your Friends & Neighbors, is already being compared to the iconic Don Draper from Mad Men. Since the latter show ended a decade ago, Hamm has appeared in several hit shows like Fargo, The Morning Show and Landman.

However, his role as Coop marks his return to TV as a leading man. At the show’s New York City premiere Tuesday, Hamm told The Hollywood Reporter what it was about the project that drew him back.

“It was meeting with Jonathan Tropper and being a fan of his work as a novelist, a short story author and his work in television film — I knew I’d be in good hands,” Hamm said at the series premiere. “I knew he could find a tone and a look and a story that...

“We’re Working on It”: Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Movie With Ryan Gosling Gets an Encouraging Update From Writer [Exclusive]
Image
Shawn Levy’s currently untitled Star Wars movie in the works at Lucasfilm just got an update from its writer. First announced in 2022, updates about the film have been sparse until the end of February, when Kathleen Kennedy confirmed that it will be set five years after The Rise of Skywalker and feature all-new characters. It has even been reported that Ryan Gosling will star in the film, but he is currently the only name attached to the cast. Collider’s Christina Radish recently caught up with the film’s scribe, Jonathan Tropper, to promote his upcoming project, Your Friends & Neighbors, and while he admitted that he couldn’t spill too much information, he did provide a brief update on how development is going on the film. After confirming that it blows his mind "every day" to be working on a Star Wars movie, he told Collider:

‘Your Friends & Neighbors’ Review: Jon Hamm Leads Delightfully Watchable Apple TV+ Thriller Series
Image
Apple TV+’s new series “Your Friends & Neighbors” is not only a dark comedy but also a cynical look at wealthy and aspiring one-percenters at mid-life. A strong cast of talented actors bring magic into the dynamic nine-episode drama, which has already received a Season 2 renewal.

A story involving rich, unaware people also has to have some humor and this one does. Creator and showrunner Jonathan Trooper and executive producer Jon Hamm focus on people’s need to acquire and hold onto so many prestige items. At one point, Hamm’s character exclaims, “When is it enough and really, what is the point of all this s—t?”

But back to the strong casting, although good in most of his roles, if there’s one type Hamm has nailed, it’s the uber successful businessman. He recently played a stressed oil mogul in “Landman” and before that, a Jeff Bezos...

Charles Band at an event for Puppet Master (1989)
Of the hundreds of pieces of entertainment Full Moon founder Charles Band has brought into the world, one of my favorites is the 1984 sci-fi thriller classic Trancers, which also happens to be one of my favorite Christmas movies. Steven Spielberg: ‘I wrote the story based on this newspaper article’ on His First Feature Film That Marked His Hollywood Arrival
Image
Steven Spielberg has always had an eye for the extraordinary. Normalcy surrounding the everyday facets of life was not intriguing enough for the director, even as a bright-eyed 20-something-year-old filmmaker. For him, only stories that defied imagination and completely transported the audience to a land of impossibilities interested him enough to make it into a movie.

The Sugarland Express [Credit: Universal Pictures]

From Spielberg’s bottomless curiosity was born films like Jaws, E.T. the Extraterrestrial, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and Jurassic Park. But it was also his need to unearth the mysteries of mankind that led Spielberg to tell stories based on true experiences, namely Schindler’s List, Catch Me If You Can, Empire of the Sun, Band of Brothers, and most importantly, The Sugarland Express – his feature directorial debut.

How ‘True Detective: Night Country’ Crafted the Chill of Its Cold Case
Image
“True Detective: Night Country” is true to its name in that it makes the night — specifically 30 days of polar night in the fictional town of Ennis, Alaska — feel like a monster waiting to swallow you up. Or, as cinematographer Florian Hoffmeister puts it, “If you switch off the lights in Alaska, you’ll die.”

Achieving a dark look for HBO’s mystery series of murder, and maybe something a little bit more supernatural, counterintuitively meant focusing on the elements of light. There’s precious little knowledge to be illuminated when Ennis police chief Liz Danvers (Jodi Foster) and her former partner, Alaska State Trooper Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis), begin looking into a tangle of bodies found frozen near the Tsalal Research Station.

But there are a lot of choices that people who live that far north make to feel a little more human, from how they light their homes to...

Shawn Levy’s ‘Star Wars’ Film Finally Has A Writer Attached
Image
Way back in November 2022, it was reported that Shawn Levy would be directing a “Star Wars” film. Since then, however, we haven’t heard anything about the project. Well, that’s finally changed, as we know who will be writing the film.

The writer has a fairly long history with Levy, having written the Netflix film, “The Adam Project,” as well as the filmmaker’s “This is Where I Leave You.” Trooper is also the man who created the criminally underseen TV series, “Banshee,” as well as “Warrior.”

Super Troopers cast reunites for whiskey ad: Check it out right meow!
Image
The Super Troopers gang is back on the road – well, actually it’s a distillery, with the original lawmen getting back together to promote WhistlePig’s maple syrup in a throwback to one of the great scenes in the 2001 Broken Lizard comedy.

In the ad, we see Super Trooper star Erik Stolhanske (Trooper “Rabbit”) slugging a bottle of WhistlePig barrel-aged maple syrup, to which Steve Lemme (Trooper “Mac”) coaching him to relax and open his jaw, further prompting Jay Chandrasekhar (Lieutenant “Thorny”) to tell him, “You’re doing it wrong.” Rabbit’s reply? “What are you talking about? Chugging maple syrup’s kind of our thing!”

But for such maple syrup, chugging is forbidden from the Super Troopers boys and pretty much anyone else who tries to set their lips on the bottle. After all, it is Vermont’s finest…Cue Paul Soter (Trooper Foster) and Kevin Heffernan (Trooper Farva) at the bar,...

No, Bad Batch's Mystery Shadow Agent Isn't Tech (It's Worse)
Image
Warning! This post contains Spoilers for The Bad Batch season 3, episode 6-7

The mysterious Shadow Agent pursuing Clone Force 99 is a clone reconditioned by Doctor Hemlock. Crosshair's immunity to reconditioning implies the Shadow Agent isn't a resurrected Tech. A dark theory suggests the Shadow Agent could be none other than the currently missing Commander Cody (which would likely break Commander Rex).

A dark new Star Wars theory suggests that the true identity of The Bad Batch season 3's "Shadow Agent" is far worse than what many fans have assumed. Having debuted in The Bad Batch season 3, episode 5, Imperial Shadow troopers are brand-new additions to the Star Wars canon, confirmed to be incredibly deadly assassins who are effectively sleeper agents. To that end, a handful of teases have hinted at the former identity of Shadow Trooper Cx-2, the agent tasked with hunting down Clone Force 99 and retrieving Omega.

All The Symbolism In True Detective: Night Country Explained
Image
Spoilers follow.

"True Detective: Night Country" is a murder mystery. But the fourth season of the crime anthology series tells a deeper story, with new showrunner Issa López weaving a dense narrative full of symbolism and metaphor. So full of cryptic imagery is this season, that fans of the series will no doubt struggle to keep up with just what it all means, or whether it means anything at all.

Reintroducing elements from season 1 has been a big part of "Night Country," which, early in its run, confirmed it was a direct sequel to the original season. That means we've seen plenty of the ominous spiral symbol, which originated in the series pilot and represented the sinister Carcosa or Yellow King cult. In "Night Country," however, the spiral has played an even bigger role, with López seemingly set to reveal its origins by the end of her season.

But the...

We Need To Talk About The Mysterious Laundry Lady In True Detective: Night Country Episode 5
Image
Spoilers follow.

Well, we're five episodes into "True Detective: Night Country" and the mystery just keeps getting more... mysterious. What caused a group of research scientists to perish in apparent anguish on the Alaskan tundra? How is that linked to the murder of Annie Kowtok, an Indigenous woman whose body was found dumped in the small town of Ennis some years before the discovery of the scientist's bodies? And how does the spiral from season 1 fit into all of this?

At this point, there's all sorts of speculation among fans, including talk of pollution causing the inhabitants of Ennis, Alaska to lose their minds, and even a potential Lovecraftian creature that would finally fulfill the cosmic horror promises of season 1. Considering new showrunner Issa López's penchant for weaving the paranormal with gritty realism, as evidenced in her 2017 feature "Tigers Are Not Afraid," it wouldn't be completely out of the...

What Does Darwin's Drawing in True Detective: Night Country Mean?
Image
Quick Links What Is Darwin's Drawing Of? The One-Eyed Polar Bear's Symbolism True Detective Season 4, Night Country, is already full of symbols and clues that viewers should pay attention to. Darwin's drawing of a blue woman with blood dripping from her fingers is a depiction of Sedna, the goddess of the sea from Inuit folklore. The recurring image of a polar bear with a missing eye is connected to the folklore of Sedna and serves as a warning to the researchers at the Tsalal Research Center.

True Detective's first season came out in 2014 and blew audiences away with its well-executed mystery, incredible acting and character-driven storytelling. Night Country Episode 3 Just Restored A Classic True Detective Trope
Image
Anyone paying any attention to the "True Detective: Night Country" discourse will surely have noticed a rift forming among viewers. Specifically, there are those who can't stop comparing the new episodes to the original 2014 season, and those who say "Night Country" should be viewed as its own thing, entirely divorced from what came before. However you feel about it, new showrunner Issa López, who replaces show creator Nic Pizzolatto, has not only been open about how influenced she was by Pizzolatto's inaugural season, but has peppered "Night Country" with homages, callbacks, and outright continuations of themes and specific narrative threads from the 2014 episodes — to the extent that "Night Country" is essentially a stealth sequel to season 1.

Thus far, the biggest link to the initial season has been the inclusion of the spiral symbol, which cropped up throughout the "Night Country" trailer. This motif appeared throughout season 1 and represented the...

HBO’s True Detective: Night Country, season four of the award-winning anthology, began with the mind-blowing discovery that an entire research team just up and vanished, leaving food on counters and a DVD playing back at the Tsalal Arctic Research Station in Ennis, Alaska. Episode one introduced Academy Award-winner Jodie Foster as Ennis Police Chief Liz Danvers and Kali Reis as Alaska Trooper Evangeline Navarro, who will be – reluctantly – teaming up to figure out what happened to the researchers, a disappearance that Navarro believes is connected to the cold case of a local activist and midwife who was brutally murdered six years ago.

Episode two kicks off with Liz and Officer Peter Prior (Finn Bennett) examining the researchers’ frozen bodies, which were discovered outside of town at the end of the season premiere.

Image
[This story contains spoilers from Fargo’s season five finale, “Bisquik.”]

For Fargo season five star Juno Temple, nothing was going to get in the way of Dorothy “Dot” Lyon’s mostly happy ending.

When the dust settled on Noah Hawley’s tremendous fifth season of Fargo, Dot finally overcame her wickedly abusive ex-husband Roy Tillman (Jon Hamm), his hired gun who happened to be a 500-year-old sin-eater named Ole Munch (Sam Spruell) and her mistrustful mother-in-law, Lorraine Lyon (Jennifer Jason Leigh). Dot thought her quarrel with Munch was settled when he saved her and freed her at Roy’s ranch so she could put a stop to the latter’s vicious cycle of abuse once and for all, but a year after Roy ended up in handcuffs, Dot and her daughter Scotty (Sienna King) arrived home to see Munch sitting in their living room with their respective, unsuspecting husband and father, Wayne (David Rysdahl...

‘Fargo’ Season 5 Episode 10 Recap: “Bisquik” Finale
Image
A 10-episode season is far too short a time to spend with Dot, Wayne, Scotty, Lorraine, Witt, Roy, Indira, and, yes, even Gator. Unfortunately, that’s all we get with FX’s Fargo season five as episode 10, “Bisquik,” brings the second-best season of the series to a close.

The season finale opens with the now-blind Gator (Joe Keery) deserted by his dad and left to make it back to the ranch on his own. He whines as he repeatedly falls and then eventually makes it into the secret tunnel almost by accident.

Gator emerges from the tunnel in a field and is immediately spotted by the FBI. He throws up his hands, no longer the arrogant vape-addict we’ve come to know and loathe.

Meanwhile, “patriots” line the ranch’s fence on Roy Tillman’s orders, fully prepared to take on the FBI. North Dakota Deputy Witt Farr (Lamorne Morris...

Ahsoka’s Lackluster Reunion Between Ezra and Hera Is Dramatically Improved in Heartwarming Fan Art
Image
Fans were disappointed with the lackluster reunion between Hera and Ezra in the season finale of Ahsoka, which consisted of a simple exchange of greetings. The reunion was overshadowed by other plot points and lacked the emotional depth that many fans expected. Fan art by @ali_mart_co depicts a more satisfying reunion between the two characters, highlighting the missed opportunity in the actual episode.

Warning! The following contains Spoilers for Ahsoka: Part Eight — The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord.

Why didn’t Hera and Ezra embrace when they were reunited? For all the inspirational moments and fan service provided by Dave Filoni in season one of Ahsoka, the show’s creator let, at the very least, one pivotal moment get away near the conclusion of Ahsoka: Part Eight — The Jedi, the Witch, and the Warlord: Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi) returning home and seeing his friend Hera Syndulla...

Mash's Animated TV Parody Series Explained (& Why It Failed)
Image
Mash was an incredibly popular sitcom and its finale remains the most-watched of all time, making it unlikely that its record will be broken. Mush, an animated parody of Mash featuring canine versions of the characters, was produced by Filmation but received poorly and eventually got cancelled. The failure of Mush led to the cancellation of the entire Uncle Croc's Block show and marked Filmation's first-ever cancellation from a network, ending their relationship with ABC.

Mash's popularity led to a very strange parody, Mush, which ultimately failed. Regarded as one of the best sitcoms of all time, it shouldn't be surprising that Mash was also immensely popular during its time on the air. Mash's finale remains both the most-watched finale of any show and the most-watched episode of a scripted series. Considering the many viewing avenues now, it's unlikely that its record will be broken. Before it even reached that,...
