As it grows its roster of young adult and comedy series, Amazon MGM Studios is bringing on an executive to shepherd those shows beyond their first seasons.

Alex Weinberger has joined the studio as head of YA and comedy ongoing series. She and her team will take on oversight of shows including the upcoming Cruel Intentions update and We Were Liars, along with Motorheads, Off Campus, Every Year After, Overcompensating and other series as they move into possible second seasons (though not all of those titles have been formally greenlit for second seasons). Weinberger will report to Laura Lancaster, head of co-prod television and ongoing series at Amazon MGM Studios.

Longtime Disney executive Alexandra (Alex) Weinberger has joined Amazon MGM Studios as head, YA and comedy, ongoing series. In the newly created position, she will report to Laura Lancaster, head of co-prod television and ongoing series.

Weinberger’s team will take over those of Prime Video’s slate of freshman young adult and comedy series that go to a second season. The slate includes Cruel Intentions, We Were Liars, Motorheads, Off Campus, Every Year After and Overcompensating.

Most recently, Weinberger worked as a producer and creative consultant on the Dear Media female empowerment podcast Coming in Hot.

Weinberger previously worked at Disney for 21 years. At ABC Studios, she was an executive in current programming and oversaw Shonda Rhimes/Shondaland series Private Practice, Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy, and Station 19, as well as Greg Berlanti Productions series such as Brothers and Sisters, Dirty Sexy Money, and Eli Stone.

Jodie Platt has been named head of comedy at Touchstone Television, taking the reins of the department from Alex Weinberger. In her new role, Platt, who will keep her vp title, will oversee the studio's comedy development and production, reporting to Touchstone TV executive vp creative affairs Julia Franz. Emmy-winning comedy writer-producer Jeff Greenstein has inked a two-year overall deal with Touchstone Television. Under the seven-figure pact, Greenstein will develop projects for the studio. Touchstone Television has restructured its comedy and drama development departments following a major shake-up at the top of the studio this year. Julia Franz, who was promoted to executive vp creative affairs in June following the appointment in April of Mark Pedowitz as Touchstone TV president, has promoted Nina Howie and Jodie Platt to vp comedy series. Channing Dungey has been appointed vp drama series, while Michael McDonald has been appointed executive director. Howie and Platt report to vp comedy series Alex Weinberger. Dungey and McDonald report to senior vp drama series Morgan Wandell.
