Listen To The Score For Weapons By Ryan Holladay, Hays Holladay And Zach Cregger Before Seeing The Movie This Weekend
Image
WaterTower Music has announced the release of the Weapons (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack), featuring an original score by Ryan Holladay, Hays Holladay, and filmmaker Zach Cregger.

The highly anticipated horror/thriller from New Line Cinema, Weapons will be distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and hits theaters and IMAX nationwide on August 8, 2025, with international release beginning August 6.

The soundtrack is available digitally now. Vinyl & CD will be available for Pre-Order starting 8/8 through Waxwork Records. The LP features deluxe packaging that includes colored vinyl, heavyweight gatefold jackets, custom artwork, and a premium 3D lenticular cover.

Unusually for a modern production, composing for Weapons began as soon as editing commenced. The Holladay brothers relocated to New York and set up their scoring suite just steps away from the editorial and VFX teams—allowing for a uniquely fluid, collaborative process. Music was integrated directly into the evolving picture, resulting in a score that was...

Weapons: Spoiler-Filled New Clip Released As Zack Cregger's Movie Earns 100% On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
The first social media reactions to Zack Cregger's Weapons were universally positive, and the full reviews have followed suit. Though only 12 verdicts have been added so far, Zack Cregger's Barbarian follow-up is currently sitting at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

New Line has also released the first full clip from the movie, and it doesn't hold back on some pretty intense scares - and what will likely turn out to be a few major spoilers.

The clip finds Josh Brolin's character Archer Graff confronting Justine Gandy (Julia Garner), who taught the class that "lost" all but one of its students when they inexplicably left their houses at the exact same time and ran into the night.

As they argue, Justine notices her school's headmaster, Andrew (Benedict Wong), running towards them with blood all around his eyes and his arms held out in the same pose as the children. Andrew immediately attacks and begins to choke Justine,...

Weapons First Reactions Hail Zach Cregger's Barbarian Follow-Up As A "Horror Masterpiece"
Image
Though full reviews are still embargoed, the first social media reactions for Barbarian director Zach Cregger's highly-anticipated second feature, Weapons, have arrived, and they are universally positive.

Weapons is still shrouded in mystery, and although the trailers have given a few things away, the marketing has done a pretty good job of keeping the movie's biggest secrets under wraps.

While these reactions don't spoil anything outright, they do hint at certain things, so proceed with caution if you'd rather know as little as possible going in. Also, we advise not reading the comments beneath certain posts, which do contain major spoilers for the movie!

Here's what Cregger had to say about the (possible) meaning behind the movie's title during a recent interview with EW.

"My wife told me her friend called and was like, 'Do you know the etymology of that word means "small arms"?' Just think about that for a second.

Weapons: "People Die In Really Weird Ways" In Creepy New Trailer For Zach Cregger's Barbarian Follow-Up
Image
Following a surreal, eerie social media countdown, Warner Bros. and New Line have released a new trailer for Barbarian director Zach Cregger's highly-anticipated second feature, Weapons, and it features plenty of unsettling new footage.

Though the trailer keeps the movie's biggest secrets hidden, there are a few more hints about what exactly is going on, and the final 30 seconds or so contain what certainly appear to be some significant plot spoilers.

The trailer begins with Julia Garner's Mrs. Gandy addressing the parents of the children that went missing from her classroom. A child's - presumably the only one that didn't disappear - voiceover then recounts what occurred at 2:17 am on the night every other student in her class "woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs and into the dark, and they never came back." From there, we're introduced to Josh Brolin's character, who clearly blames Gandy for his son's disappearance.

Nightfall Terror Looms in new ‘Weapons’ Trailer
Image
Zach Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian, Weapons arrives in UK cinemas on 8 August, and its latest trailer has left horror fans scrambling for answers. The teaser opens on a sleepy town shaken by the simultaneous disappearance of seventeen schoolchildren. Director Cregger keeps the details sparse, but unsettling glimpses of empty classrooms, flickering streetlights and shattered toys hint at something far more sinister than a simple missing persons case.

The cast is led by Josh Brolin as a grief-stricken parent desperate for the truth and Julia Garner as Justine Gandy, the teacher at the heart of the mystery. They are joined by Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong and Amy Madigan. Cregger adapts his own screenplay and shares production credits with Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, while Brolin and Michelle Morrissey serve as executive producers.

The emphasis on trailer craft is clear in this first glimpse at Weapons.

‘Weapons’ New Trailer: Josh Brolin Demands to Know Where His Missing Child Went in Zach Cregger’s Horror Movie
Image
Zach Cregger’s “Weapons” quickly became one of the year’s buzziest horror movies when the first trailer dropped in April.

Now, the latest trailer for the new film from the “Barbarian” director shows the drama (and haunting imagery) getting even darker as children’s disappearances plague a small town.

The logline reads: “’Weapons’ is a horror film that follows an entire classroom of children who get out of their beds and disappear one night without a trace. When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance.”

Julia Garner stars as the teacher whose entire class, except for one student, goes missing in the dead of night. Josh Brolin plays one of the many parents disturbed by the disappearances, now determined to find his child at any cost.

IMAX Unleashes Eerie New Clip From Zach Cregger’s Chilling Thriller Weapons
Image
Zach Cregger, the visionary filmmaker behind the breakout horror hit Barbarian, is back with his next nightmare-inducing project: Weapons, a mystery-horror film already generating massive buzz across Hollywood.

The project first made headlines thanks to a ferocious bidding war over Cregger’s highly sought-after script, widely hailed as one of the best horror spec scripts of the last 20 years.

The screenplay sparked a fierce competition among major players, including Netflix, TriStar Pictures, Universal/Monkeypaw Productions, and New Line Cinema. In the end, New Line came out on top, securing the distribution rights in a $38 million deal.

Reports claim that Jordan Peele, head of Monkeypaw Productions, was so frustrated by losing the bid that he fired his longtime managers, Joel Zadak and Peter Principato.

Now, with expectations sky-high, Weapons is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated horror releases of the year. And thanks to IMAX, fans are getting...

Weapons Full Trailer Promises A Terrifying Second Feature From Barbarian Director Zach Cregger
Image
Following last week's eerie first teaser, Warner Bros. and New Line have released the first full trailer and poster for Barbarian director Zach Cregger's highly-anticipated second feature, Weapons.

Though descriptions suggest that the CinemaCon footage was slightly different (there's no clown at the end), this looks every bit as creepy and unsettling as those reports claimed.

The trailer begins with a child's voiceover recounting what occurred at 2:17 am on the night every student (bar one?) in Mrs. Gandy's (Julia Garner) classroom "woke up, got out of bed, walked downstairs and into the dark, and they never came back." From there, we're introduced to Josh Brolin's character, who clearly blames Gandy for his son's disappearance, as the headmaster (Benedict Wong) advises the teacher to take some time off.

"That mystery is going to propel you through at least half of the movie, but that is not the movie,...

For the past few weeks, New Line Cinema has been teasing Zach Cregger’s latest nightmare, Weapons. Weapons: Eerie First Teaser Trailer For Barbarian Director Zach Cregger's Next Horror Movie Released
Image
The creepy first teaser for Barbarian Zack Cregger's next horror film, Weapons, has been released online.

Up until details from the full trailer were disclosed following a recent CinemaCon screening, the only information we had been given about the movie is that it was developed as “a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

Warner Bros. has also released an official synopsis, but it doesn't really give us much more to go on: "When all but one child from the same class mysteriously vanish on the same night at exactly the same time, a community is left questioning who or what is behind their disappearance."

In the trailer, we see the children rushing out of their homes at 2:17 am, as a voiceover tells the father of one of the missing kids, Mr. Graff, that he understands his frustration,...

‘Weapons’ Teaser: Josh Brolin Investigates the Disappearance of Julia Garner’s Entire Class of Kids in Zach Cregger’s Latest Nightmare
Image
Zach Cregger is building out his “Barbarian” cinematic universe with the highly-anticipated “Weapons.” While little is known about Cregger’s latest horror/thriller, New Line Cinema chief Richard Brenner described the film as being “batshit insane.”

Julia Garner stars as a teacher whose entire classroom of kids goes missing in the middle of the night. Josh Brolin is one of the many parents demanding answers. Did Garner’s character lure them away? Is this supernatural? And who is orchestrating a slew of murders in town…could it be the children?

Godzilla X Kong Sequel Casts The Last Of US And Booksmart Star Kaitlyn Dever In Lead Role
Image
We got confirmation late last year that a follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire was officially in the works, with writer Dave Callaham enlisted to pen the script for the untitled movie.

Adam Wingard, who helmed The New Empire and previous MonsterVerse movie Godzilla vs. Kong, was originally set to return, but ultimately departed the project under "amicable" circumstances, with Grant Sputore stepping in to replace him shortly after.

Now, Deadline reports that the next MonsterVerse movie has founds its lead in Kaitlyn Dever.

We don't have any details on who she'll play, but the trade mentions that, while Kong and Godzilla will still be fronting the film, Legendary is looking to build on its human characters. The story will focus on "Godzilla and Kong as they face off against a cataclysmic world-ending threat."

Sputore doesn't have much experience, having come from the world of commercials, but he...

How Ti West’s ‘X’ Trilogy Captured the Look of Three Eras
Image
“MaXXXine,” the third film in writer/director Ti West and producer/actress Mia Goth’s “X” trilogy, is now in theaters. From the ’70s set “X” to the 1910s of “Pearl” and now the ’80s of “MaXXXine,” one of the defining characteristics of the trilogy is how they adopt the look and filmmaking style of the genre of the films they are emulating. Cinematographer Eliot Rockett, a long-time West collaborator who shot all three films, told IndieWire the roots of this approach pre-dated 2022’s “X.”

“This started back with ‘House of the Devil,’” said Rockett, referencing the 2009 horror film he shot for West. “We were trying to make a movie that felt not just like a period, but the whole thing felt more like an artifact from that time.”

With “X,” West wanted to make his first slasher film in the spirit of 1970s films like “Texas Chainsaw Massacre,” in...

There was no mention of a potential director at the time, but we'd later learn that Adam Wingard, who helmed The New Empire and previous MonsterVerse movie Godzilla vs. Kong, would no longer direct the project after initially being attached to return. His departure was described as "amicable and stemming from timing issues," with the door remaining "open for a future return."

Now, THR (via SFFGazette.com) the next instalment in the popular franchise has enlisted a new director, with Grant Sputore set to take the helm.

Sputore doesn't have much experience, having come from the world of commercials, but he does have one feature under his belt: The 2019 sci-fi movie I Am Mother starring Hilary Swank.

Callaham...

Dan Stevens on Creativity, Comedy, and That Good Morning Britain Moment…
Image
Dan Stevens is a busy man. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire landed in theaters at the end of March, where Stevens played charming leading man Trapper, then anarchic horror Abigail arrived hot on its heels in April. Next up, August brings strange horror/sci-fi Cuckoo, which sees Stevens playing a deranged scientist. Between press tours, festivals, and new projects, he’s got a lot going on. And we get the sense he wouldn’t have it any other way.

Describing himself as an “experience hound,” Stevens is a man who thrives on challenges. He began his career in theater, made it big as tragic heartthrob Matthew Crawley in British drama Downton Abbey, and has genre-hopped ever since, from action-thriller The Guest, to playing Sir Lancelot in family fun Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb. He sang and danced on stilts for Beauty and the Beast, played Charles Dickens...

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Director Adam Wingard Parts Ways With Next MonsterVerse Movie
Image
It was recently announced that Warner Bros./Legendary are officially moving forward with a follow-up to Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, with writer Dave Callaham enlisted to pen the script for the untitled movie.

There was no mention of a potential director at the time, but it seems Adam Wingard, who helmed The New Empire and its predecessor Godzilla vs. Kong, was set to return.

Was being the operative word.

According to THR, Wingard is no longer in line to direct the project. Though the report stresses that he didn't have a deal in place, anyway, it sounds like he was tentatively attached prior to a parting of ways, which is described as "amicable and stemming from timing issues," with the door remaining "open for a future return."

Wingard is now expected to turn his attention to his next project, a new original feature that he wanted to tackle...

Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire Sequel Officially In The Works; Shang-chi Writer To Pen Script
Image
This year's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire wasn't exactly a monster hit, but it did manage to take in close to $555 million worldwide on a reported $135 million budget. Now, we have word that a sequel is officially in development, and Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures have enlisted a writer to pen the script.

According to THR, Dave Callaham has signed on to write the untitled movie. No plot details have been disclosed, but it's assumed that both the King of the Monsters and the mighty Monarch of Skull Island will return to face a new, potentially world-ending threat.

Callaham has previously worked on several major studio tentpoles, including the 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot, Wonder Woman 1984, Marvel Studios' Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, and Sony Pictures' Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. He also has some prior experience with Big G, having written the early drafts and received story by...

How To Watch Godzilla X Kong At Home
Image
The MonsterVerse keeps getting bigger and bigger, with the TV series "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" landing a second season on Apple TV+ (along with multiple other spin-offs in the works) and "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" becoming the highest grossing Godzilla movie ever. (In case you missed it, you can check out our review of the latest monster mash right here.) The film takes place after Godzilla and Kong -- having joined forces for their battle against Mechagodzilla in "Godzilla vs. Kong" -- divide the planet between them. Godzilla stays on the surface, sleeping on the Roman Colosseum like a cat, while Kong goes on a little bachelor adventure in Hollow Earth.

However, things get complicated when Kong encounters a civilization of giant apes and winds up in a fight with their leader, Skar King. This leads to a larger battle against an army of giant apes and a...

Godzilla x Kong Director Reveals How His Cat Inspired a Scene
Image
To get the sleeping habits of one Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire kaiju right, director Adam Wingard modeled his actions on feline movements.

In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Wingard described his cat Mischief as "my biggest inspiration in life," a sentiment that was shared by Godzilla Minus One filmmaker Takashi Yamazaki and his cat. After joking about their Godzilla/cat parallels, he continued, "To design a sequence where Godzilla is hibernating, you're always trying to juxtapose Godzilla against iconic backdrops that everybody knows. So we were trying to come up with a place where Godzilla could hibernate, and as we were having this discussion with my production designer [Tom Hammock], my cat was curled up in a ball and sleeping in her circular little cat nest. And I thought, "Wow, wouldn't it be funny to see Godzilla laying in the Roman Colosseum exactly like this?" We then...

‘Godzilla x Kong’ Director Adam Wingard Talks His Cat’s Influence on Godzilla and Lance Reddick’s Role in ‘The Guest 2’
Image
You asked, and Adam Wingard listened.

Coming off of 2021’s Godzilla vs. Kong, the filmmaker was keenly aware that critics and audiences wanted even more focus on the MonsterVerse titans, so his sequel, Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, features multiple long stretches of runtime that’s exclusively titans, namely Kong and his journey. The giant ape is the main character of Warners’ fifth MonsterVerse film, and Wingard was able to pull off this more titan-heavy story by keeping his cast of human characters to a helpful minimum.

“In the development phase, my motto was ‘simplicity is key.’ And so I knew that if we created a smaller cast, we could create a more intimate story,” Wingard tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We can still spend time with [the human characters], and at the same time, we can spend more time with the monsters and not shortchange one or the other.”

The human drama...

You're Next Quietly Made A Killing At The Box Office And Launched Adam Wingard's Career
Image
(Welcome to Tales from the Box Office, our column that examines box office miracles, disasters, and everything in between, as well as what we can learn from them.)

In 2013, a home invasion horror movie was released that made a ridiculous amount of money relative to its tiny production budget which helped launch the career of a now-prominent filmmaker. That may sound like "The Purge" but I'm actually talking about "You're Next," the beloved slasher flick that helped to put Adam Wingard on the map. Wingard has since made giant blockbusters like "Godzilla vs. Kong," which helped bring movie theaters back to life in 2021 in the aftermath of the quarantine era of the pandemic. Wingard is now an A-list director, and that journey pretty much starts with this movie.

What's interesting about "You're Next" is that it's almost become a cult classic of sorts, as it wasn't a big enough hit...

Adam Wingard Had To Do Some Real-Life Science To Prove Godzilla Vs Kong's Biggest Fight Could Happen
Image
Lampoon the idea of a hollow earth all you want, but let it never be said that the kaiju battle aboard an aircraft carrier in "Godzilla vs. Kong" is scientifically inaccurate. Adam Wingard was coming from a horror background when he signed on to direct the sequel to both "Kong: Skull Island" and "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," and while a creature feature would seem to be right up his alley, this was a giant monster movie, told on a blockbuster scale that Wingard had yet to operate on. There were a lot of practical things to consider, not the least of which is whether it would even be possible for King Kong and Godzilla to fight on top of an aircraft carrier in the middle of the ocean without it sinking.

The real meat of the aircraft carrier fight lasts all of 30 seconds in "Godzilla vs. Kong," but it...

Godzilla vs. Kong sequel: cast and plot details announced for 2024 Monsterverse movie!
Image
Godzilla vs. Kong director Adam Wingard is returning to the helm for a sequel that has been shrouded in secrecy for months – all we’ve heard up to this point was that Wingard’s The Guest star Dan Steven had joined the cast, and that was way back in May. But now Warner Bros. and Legendary have sent out a press release to give us more information on this currently untitled addition to the Monsterverse, which is scheduled to reach theatres on March 15, 2024.

The press release reveals that the screenplay for this film was written by Terry Rossio (the Pirates of the Caribbean series), Jeremy Slater (Moon Knight), and Simon Barrett (You’re Next), the three of them crafting a story that

‘Them’ Emmy interviews: Watch our 6 in-depth chats with Deborah Ayorinde, Ashley Thomas and more
Image
The Amazon horror anthology series “Them” centers on a Black family that experiences terror after moving to a white neighborhood in 1950s Compton. The horror comes in both realistic and supernatural forms as Henry and Lucky Emory battle racist neighbors and otherworldly creatures who intend to drive them out of Compton, if not kill them outright. Scroll down to watch our exclusive interviews with six Emmy contenders from the limited series.

“Them” stars Ashley Thomas and Deborah Ayorinde as Henry and Lucky, while Shahadi Wright Joseph and Melody Hurd play their daughters, who are also haunted by evil spirits. Alison Pill plays Betty, a neighbor of the Emorys who leads the charge in trying to chase them out of their community. Ryan Kwanten rounds out the main cast as George, the milkman whose flirtations with Betty develop into something far more sinister. Like many domestic dramas set in the 1950s,...

On Amazon’s ‘Them,’ the Craft Team Put the Spoilers in the Wallpaper
Image
Consider This: Conversations highlight television’s award-worthy productions through panel discussions with the artists themselves. The above video is in partnership by Amazon Prime Video, produced by IndieWire’s Creative Producer Leonardo Adrian Garcia, and hosted by TV Editor Kristen Lopez.

The landscape of Amazon Prime Video’s series “Them” is filled with horror from the moment the Emory family moves into their new Compton residence. That fear and tension isn’t limited to the project’s storytelling. As the crafts team members behind the series lay out, they wanted to imbue history and tension into everything surrounding the Emorys and everything they wear.

Costume designer Mari-An Ceo says the many meticulous details in the series’ costuming at times veered into being spoilers themselves. In some cases, those details were tiny. For instance, the villainous Miss Vera’s collar looks like a book, which subtly connects her to little Gracie Jean...

4 TV production designers on their unique paths into the industry, from milking spiders to mermaid lairs [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
How does one become a production designer? For Tom Hammock (“Them”), it actually started in a most unusual way: he “stumbled into it” by milking spiders for their venom. We talked with Hammock, Sara K White (“The Flight Attendant”), Mark Ricker (“Halston”), and Jamie Walker McCall (“Pose”) about their careers and their current projects during our “Meet the Experts” TV production designers panel. Watch our group discussion above. Click on each name about to view that person’s individual webchat.

Hammock explains, “I’d been in science. My father’s studies poisons and so I’d grown up milking venomous animals for antivenom. And I stumbled into this via ‘Spider-Man’ and helping them out with a laboratory. And they kind of talked me into leaving architecture and ending up here.”

For McCall it wasn’t spiders but hobbits: “What inspired me to move out from New York and Boston to...

‘Them’ production designer Tom Hammock on creating a dream suburb that turns out to be a nightmare [Exclusive Video Interview]
Image
“I think we really started with color, with the idea that the exterior of all these houses would be fairly uniform and beautiful pastels … And yet with our various Black families that had moved out to Los Angeles, their houses would all be extremely dark inside,” reveals “Them” production designer Tom Hammock about creating a suburban paradise in 1950s California that turns out to be a nightmare for Black families that move there. We talked with Hammock as part of our “Meet the Btl Experts” TV production designers panel. Watch our interview above.

“Them” is an anthology series, and season one tells the story of the Emory family, who escape the racist violence of the South only to find more violence out West. But the violence doesn’t only come from their white neighbors. It also comes from supernatural forces in their house. “A lot of the decisions really were...
