Three years ago, actors Dan Butler and Richard Waterhouse purchased a mostly wooded 55-acre tract in rural Vermont -- a former chicken farm, complete with a farmhouse built in 1832. They gradually cut their ties to Los Angeles and, about a year and a half ago, began living permanently in their new home. "We were both in the mood for change and adventure," says Butler. "And when this came up, it was so illogical to me that it drew me to it. We came here and sort of let go of the struggle of how it was all going to work. And it worked out."Had the couple moved to such a remote location with the intention of retiring from show business, it might have been idyllic. But neither planned to give up his career.
