5 ‘Modern Family’ Stars Who Also Appeared on ‘Law & Order’
Image
Sitcom stars in a procedural crime drama? Yes, why not? After all, it’s often joked in Hollywood that almost everyone worth their salt has appeared in a Law & Order episode.

5 actors from Modern Family who have starred in the Law & Order franchise are Sarah Hyland, Ariel Winter, their on-screen parents Ty Burrell and Julie Bowen, as well as Celia Weston. All of them have appeared in the long-running franchise between 2001 and 2024. So, it means it was anywhere from their pre- to post-Modern Family careers.

Also, these appearances spanned all across the Law & Order franchise, including Svu and Trial by Jury. It isn’t surprising that some of the biggest sitcom stars would also have starred in an episode (or more) of one of the most successful and long-running TV franchises. After all, it would have allowed them to flex their drama muscles and prove their versatility...

‘Modern Family’ Avoided One Mistake from ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’ That Made It an Instant Classic
Image
Steven Levitan and Christopher Lloyd, the creators of Modern Family, made a deliberate creative choice that made their sitcom stand out in a genre that was populated by hits like Everybody Loves Raymond. So, what was the difference between them? The children in the hit 1996 sitcom were just props who existed to remind viewers that the main characters were parents. But Modern Family decided to treat the children like characters who are central to the storytelling.

When Modern Family arrived in 2009, the family sitcom genre had almost vanished from the TV landscape. That genre had been replaced with titles that were comedy but had a bend of cynicism. So, creators like Levitan and Lloyd thought of a way that would bring the family sitcom genre back and also help it stand out in a landscape where it had lost its place. Their decision was clearly right because Modern Family was a hit,...

Odessa A'zion Goes Pool-Hopping in Indie Film 'Pools' Official Trailer
Image
"Free is happy." "It's so unclear." Utopia has debuted the trailer for an indie film titled Pools, opening in select theaters later in August coming soon. The film premiered last year at a few festivals including SXSW Sydney. Pools is a coming-of-age indie comedy made by filmmaker Sam Hayes originally from Chicago. He says: "The original title of Pools was Pools at Night. And that image speaks very simply to what first drew me to the premise of this movie – the magic of a glowing blue pool at night... [It's] very much inspired by the movies John Hughes made in this same area in the 80s—Ferris Bueller's Day Off, The Breakfast Club—some of my favorites ever. I wanted to make a movie like that, but about pool-hopping, which I find so quintessentially coming-of-age." Starring Odessa A'zion (aka Odessa Adlon), Mason Gooding, Ariel Winter, Tyler Alvarez, Francesca Noel, Michael Vlamis,...

‘Modern Family’ Spinoff: Why Mitch and Cam’s Missouri Story Was Canceled Before It Even Began
Image
Modern Family is my breakfast show, you know what I mean? I watch it every day with breakfast, to set the tone for the rest of the day. That’s how much I love and revere every character in it. When I heard the news of the Modern Family spinoff being cancelled, I had bittersweet feelings about it.

I would have been excited about seeing Mitch and Cam in the Missouri setup, but I would have missed the rest of the family a lot. Let’s get into what happened and why the Mitch and Cam story, which was so close to being developed, didn’t happen.

Modern Family Spin-off: The Missouri Poster Boys That Got Cancelled Before They Began

Modern Family finally said goodbye to grieving fans in the year 2020, with Mitch(Jesse Tyler Ferguson) and Cam (Eric Stonestreet) moving to Missouri to be with Cam’s side of the family.

Modern Family Writers Completely Forgot Alex’s Backstory With a Major Character Inconsistency in Season 11
Image
Alex has been a star during the whole run-through of the Hulu show Modern Family. We believe that she’s beautiful with brains and the only responsible person who knows exactly what and why something has to be done.

But, here’s the twist: the makers completely forgot the characters’ backstory, putting a major inconsistency in later seasons. Especially in Season 11, a brief moment occurs when Alex returns from Antarctica when a stray follows her, and she shooes it away. It was because she is allergic to cats.

However, in the previous episodes, she is seen cuddling Ben’s cat. And particularly in Season 6, to hide from a date, Alex is seen feeding them. This cites the irregularity of the show. Let’s dissect what the point was when the makers decided to throw this angle for Alex.

What Is Alex’s Backstory That Has a Major Character Inconsistency in...

I Just Discovered Modern Family’s Pilot Episode Had a Secret Reshoot After a Last-Minute Recast
Image
When Modern Family arrived in 2009, it took the sitcom world by storm with its diverse characters, sharp writing and mockumentary-style of storytelling. The pilot episode established the characters, their dynamics with each other, and how they formed a “modern” family. However, everything behind-the-scenes wasn’t as seamlessly executed as it seemed on screen.

One of the major characters of the show, Haley Dunphy, wasn’t cast till almost the last minute. This meant that there was a secret reshoot that most Modern Family fans aren’t aware of. Viewers loved Sarah Hyland as Haley for all of the 11 seasons of the show. However, she wasn’t the one the makers had in mind for the role. This was because Haley was a 15-year-old in the show while Hyland was 18 at that time.

However, something changed and a late casting happened where the producers decided to partially reshoot the pilot to...

Known prominently for starring in The Bachelorette and as Bachelor Nation’s beloved bartender, Adams revealed that his time on the show has shaped how he plans special moments in his personal life.

One such moment, which he described as the most memorable moment with his wife, was taking her on a helicopter ride to Catalina Island. “If that isn’t the most Bachelor date in the world, I don’t know what is,” he told People. “So yeah, I would say I’ve learned the most from the date team in Bachelor Nation.”

Amid Epstein List Fallout, Modern Family Star’s Warning About Male Predators Reflects a Bigger Industry Problem
Image
The Modern Family star Ariel Winter’s revelation about her early experience working as a child star reflects a deeply embedded issue within the entertainment industry, one that feels especially urgent amid the fallout from the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

Epstein, a convicted child s*x offender, became notorious for operating a vast s*x trafficking network involving underage girls. However, the recent tensions center on the unreleased documents, specifically the elusive client list that could potentially implicate several high-profile individuals.

President Donald Trump is facing the heat for allegedly failing to follow through on his earlier claims to declassify files related to Epstein. However, the frequent revelations about the entertainment industry, as in Winter’s case, who revealed that she received inappropriate messages from adult men as a child star, highlight a much larger issue that demands systemic attention and accountability.

For an article published on July 10, the former child star, now 27, behind Alex Dunphy — the middle child of Claire (Julie Bown) and Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell) — opened up to the Daily Mail about the disturbing experience and how it still affects her today. “I am familiar with male predators because I worked in Hollywood at a young age, I started at age 4,” Winter shared. She added, “I don’t wanna say too much about it, but by the time I was on a laptop and cell phone, I was getting inappropriate messages from older men, and it caused trauma.” Since then, Winter said she has sought professional help to process the unwanted behavior. “The experiences I had in person and online as a child have affected me so deeply that...

Ariel Winter Details Childhood Trauma, Sparks New Scrutiny of Hollywood’s Child-Safety Gaps
Ariel Winter
Ariel Winter says that starting work at age four meant learning early “how male predators operate,” adding that by the time she had a laptop she was fielding explicit messages from grown men—a pattern that, she says, “caused trauma” and sent her to years of therapy. The 27-year-old “Modern Family” alum first detailed the experience this week, urging Hollywood to confront what she calls a “dark place” for children.

Winter now volunteers with Safe From Online Sex Abuse (Sosa), posing as minors in police-backed sting operations that lead predators to arrest sites; she describes the work as “fulfilling and triggering” in equal measure. Her boyfriend, actor Luke Benward, encouraged the outreach after watching undercover footage that reminded Winter of incidents she endured on set and online.

The disclosure lands as pressure on studios intensifies following Investigation Discovery’s docuseries Quiet on Set, which chronicled abuse allegations tied to Nickelodeon...

Modern Family Star Jesse Tyler Ferguson Reflects on Criticism for 'Stereotypical' Gay Role
Image
Modern Family was considered a progressive show during its time on air, but it still received criticism sometimes for its gay characters.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson played one of those characters - the uptight lawyer Mitchell Pritchett - and he's opened up recently about the criticism that was leveled at him in particular. Ferguson is gay himself, but not everyone liked his portrayal of Mitchell. He spoke about it on his popular podcast Dinner's On Me.

"One of the pressures I've always felt, specifically after being on a show like Modern Family, where I'm portraying a gay man on a television show, on a network that is as popular as it is," the actor said, "you receive criticism, as you do, with anything you do, but the criticism that I think I heard the loudest was always from the gay community, feeling as if, maybe, I didn't represent their idea of what a gay relationship was,...

Sofia Vergara’s Throwback Thursdays: ‘Modern Family’ Star Is on a Mission With Bikini Dump to Conquer Instagram
Image
Let’s be honest, we all fell in love with Sofia Vergara and her accent the moment she showed up in Modern Family‘s pilot episode wearing a leopard print shirt and screaming her heart out at Manny’s soccer game. Gloria Delgado-Pritchett is one of those few characters who make a project what it is by simply being in it.

Just like Gloria, Sofia Vergara is a complete icon, too. From red carpets to business ventures, she’s got that rare mix of glam, grit, humor, and a face card so lethal we still haven’t recovered from it. However, we are noticing a little pattern in her social media posting habits as her Throwback Thursdays turn into a bikini dump.

Modern Family Child Star Comes Out Using Classic Joke From the Show
Image
Modern Family was a very progressive show featuring two iconic gay characters in Mitch and Cam. Fans thus won't be surprised that the actor who played their daughter would use a joke from the show to come out.

Per Entertainment Weekly, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons played Lily, the adopted daughter of Jesse Tyler Ferguson's character Mitchell and Eric Stonestreet's character Cam. She came out as bisexual this Pride Month by recording an Instagram of herself mouthing a classic line from the beloved ABC sitcom. The joke is from a scene in a restaurant where other characters are trying to get Lily to understand she's Vietnamese, but she doesn't comprehend and falls back on the one identity she knows -- telling her family, "I'm gay!"

"People keep joking so much [about] me being gay when I literally am (I'm bi)," Anderson-Emmons wrote on the video. In the caption she wrote, "happy pride...

Judging by the trailer, Don’t Log Off has certain surface similarities to the celebrated pandemic horror picture Host. However, from what we can tell from the trailer, it looks like Don’t Log Off might feature a more human antagonist than Host,...

Modern Family Cast Then & Now: Julie Bowen Is Immortal but Another Actor Aged Like the Finest Wine
Image
Modern Family may have wrapped in April 2020, but the cast still lives rent-free in our heads. From Julie Bowen’s seemingly ageless glow to one actor who’s pulling off the “finest wine” transformation like a pro, the glow-ups (and glow-steady cases) are real.

Over the years, this lovable sitcom family’s had their own aging arc. Whether it’s the Dunphy kids stepping into their adult era or the Pritchetts embracing silver fox status, this then-and-now rewind proves that time has only turned up the style and swagger, and not dulled their charm.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson seems to be defying the aging process. In 2024, he surprised us by shaving off his signature red beard, revealing a youthful appearance. Social media was...

These two Modern Family stars are 'still best friends' (which warms our hearts!)
Image
When you have a favorite television series, especially one that goes on for so long, you get invested in everything about it. From the story, to the characters, and even the cast. We always like to hear good things about the relationships between co-stars, otherwise sometimes it becomes a bit tainted. And unfortunately, we do end up learning that some actors didn't get along or aren't close anymore. Thankfully when it comes to Modern Family, it looks like all the cast members are still close. And there's two in particular who are besties.

In an interview with People recently, Ariel Winter who played Alex Dunphy shared that she and her TV younger brother Nolan Gould (Luke Dunphy) are "extremely close" and "still best friends," to this day. Aw, this comment just warms our hearts! It definitely put a smile on my face.

“You are trying to be s*xy, you’re 13”: Ariel Winter’s Horrible Struggle With Modern Family’s Toxic Fanbase
Image
Being a child star might sound like a dream, but through and through, Hollywood stars like Emma Watson and Millie Bobby Brown have reflected on the heavy price they had to pay for their early stardom. Even the Modern Family actress Ariel Winter, who donned the role of the brainy and lovable Alex Dunphy, opened up about the hardship of growing up in front of millions.

Reflecting on her transformation from an 11-year-old child actor to a teen, and then into a young woman, Ariel Winter mentioned how the world didn’t watch with kindness. Instead of embracing her natural growth and aging, Winter was hit with cruel, body-shaming comments and harsh judgment from so-called fans who couldn’t accept that she wasn’t just her onscreen character.

Why Modern Family Star Ariel Winter Disappeared From Hollywood
Image
It's never easy to be a child star. Even if you have a healthy, stable home life, it can be difficult to deal with the highs and lows of fame as a juvenile. That's not counting the work schedules, trying to keep up with schooling, and still trying to be a kid, so it's not always surprising when super successful child stars drop out of the limelight for at least a little while upon reaching adulthood. Young women have to try to reconcile growing up with their fandoms, which can be incredibly difficult, while also trying to pave a career and a way forward for themselves. For "Modern Family" star Ariel Winter, it was all just a little bit too much.

The actor, who portrayed academic overachiever middle daughter Alex Dunphy on the long-running hit ABC sitcom, seemed to disappear from Hollywood entirely for a while after the end of...

Winter played the daughter of Julie Bowen’s Claire and Ty Burrell’s Phil in the ABC comedy that ran for 11 seasons and ended in 2020. Facing the body shaming on social media was not easy for Winter as comments about her weight gain grew.

"They Don't See the Fan Base": 'Speed Racer' 4K Uhd Release Gets Disappointing Update From Lilly Wachowski [Exclusive]
Image
For a franchise that only has one movie adaptation, released almost 20 years ago, Speed Racer has managed to retain an impressive and passionate fan base. The cult following that the film earned over the years would make you think that the Lana and Lilly Wachowski (The Matrix) movie would've earned at least one or two commemorative editions over the years, but that's hardly the case. In a new interview with Collider, Lilly Wachowski spoke about the possibility of the movie getting a 4K Uhd release, but the news is discouraging at best.

During an interview for her upcoming conversation at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures for The Matrix trilogy, Wachowski told Collider's Steve Weintraub that she actually took it upon herself to look into Warner Bros.' re-release because of how vocal the Speed Racer community is. The problem is, this kind of decision is out of her hands and,...

Like Father, Like Son Review: Brutality and Broken Bonds Explored
Image
Set in the early 1990s in a gritty, urban backdrop reminiscent of Richmond, California, the film opens with a scene that shocks the viewer: Gabe, a working-class man with a hidden propensity for violence, brutally assaults a local bully in full view of his young son, Eli. This single act of brutality sets a powerful narrative engine in motion. The film wastes no time in establishing the weight of its themes.

We watch as Eli, caught in the immediate aftermath of that violent day, embarks on a path steeped in conflict and uncertainty. The story tracks his transformation from a boy marked by a singular moment of horror into a man wrestling with a legacy of aggression and moral ambiguity.

Eli’s character is molded by the shadow of his father’s actions—a legacy that seems to cast a long, unavoidable shade over his every decision. As he navigates...

15 Best Modern Family Episodes Ranked
Image
In an age of sitcom reboots and sequels, is it too much to ask for one more season of "Modern Family" at some point? The hit ABC sitcom with a stellar ensemble cast ran for 11 seasons between 2009 and 2020, and it will likely be remembered as the last family sitcom to dominate broadcast television before streaming gobbled everything up. It explored the love lives, parenting styles, and relationships of three couples within the same non-traditional (at least by 2009 standards) family tree.

Sadly, unless that rumored Rob Riggle spin-off somehow presents co-creator Steven Levitan with his golden opportunity to write the next great multi-cam sitcom, we've likely seen all we ever will of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker-Marshall family. But before you rush off to watch one of the many great shows that followed in its footsteps, let's revisit the 15 best "Modern Family" episodes -- ranked by humor, heart, and how much they made us...
