Tony Gilroy breaks silence on Andor Emmy snubs
Image
In 2023, Andor's first season received eight Emmy nominations, including one for Outstanding Drama Series. Despite the Disney+ original series being recognized in many categories—such as writing, directing, cinematography, music, and many others—it didn't walk away with any wins. While even getting nominated at the Emmys is cause for celebration, zero wins was surely a disappointing result after such a well-received show.

In case you've been out of the loop for a while, Andor stars Diego Luna as Cassian Andor. The show takes place in the events leading up to 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which itself occurs immediately before the events of 1977's A New Hope. I know, it's confusing if you're new around here, but that's Star Wars.

Andor's two seasons have been praised by fans and critics alike, as they offer a more nuanced and grounded look into the Star Wars universe—one without...

2025 Emmys: Best Surprises and Worst Snubs of the Year
Image
With the 2025 Emmy Awards announcing their nominees this morning, we’ve finally had time to catch our breath and read over the nominees. In the process, we found several snubs that are not only surprising but will age terribly in the years ahead. Check out our list and let us know if any big ones are missing.

2025 Emmy Snubs and Surprises Snub: An Only Murders Lead Bloodbath

The duo of Martin Short and Steve Martin gained new life with the arrival of Selena Gomez. The trio has become one of the great comedic teams in recent memory, allowing Gomez to shine by offering a laconic humor compared to the massive performances from Short and Martin. However, with only Short grabbing a nomination for the 2025 Emmys, we’re a little baffled. It’s possible both could have made the list in a year of six nominees, but unfortunately, we can never know if that is true.

Andrew Garfield, 41, Has an Unhealthy Obsession in Twisty New ‘After The Hunt’ Trailer
Image
Andrew Garfield will always be known for playing Peter Parker in the Amazing Spider-Man movies, but the two-time Oscar-nominated star is due to feature in a new project that just got an exciting look. Amazon MGM has officially released the first trailer for After the Hunt, the psychological thriller coming to theaters on October 17. The film also stars Ayo Edebiri (The Bear) and Julia Roberts (Pretty Woman), and it hails from director Luca Guadagnino. Guadagnino previously worked with Amazon MGM on the release of Challengers, the 2024 steamy tennis film starring Zendaya. After the Hunt follows a college professor (Roberts) who finds herself in turmoil when her star pupil accuses her colleagues of something sinister. Meanwhile, a dark secret from her own past comes to life, threatening the life she’s built.

Andrew Garfield reprised his role as Spider-Man as recently as 2021, when he suited up alongside other web-headed veterans Tom Holland...

Critics’ Conversation: 2025 Emmy Nominations Take a Typically Shallow Dive Into TV’s Best
Image
Daniel Fienberg: Say what you will about Emmy voters, but when they like something, they Really like it.

My biggest takeaway, as I’m picking my way through the nominations for the 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, is how top-heavy the list is. Twenty-seven nominations for Severance! Twenty-four nominations for The Penguin! Twenty-three nominations apiece for The Studio and The White Lotus!

So many of these juggernauts received nominations so completely across the board — the dominance of White Lotus and Severance in the supporting categories is especially impressive — that I found myself more distracted by the standouts from those casts who didn’t get nominated than those who did. Where’s Rhenzy Feliz for The Penguin? Or Chase Sui Wonders for The Studio? Or Lisa from Blackpink for The White Lotus (or Carrie Coon’s vacation buddies, I suppose)?

It’s a myopia that leads to the consistent impression that...

One of Star Wars' best series has been pulled from Hulu
Image
Cassian Andor’s story isn’t gone for good, but if you were watching Andor on Hulu, you'll need to head over to Disney+ to finish your rewatch.

Fans noticed earlier this month that the critically acclaimed Star Wars series was set to leave Hulu, with a quiet “Expires Thursday” label appearing beneath the thumbnail. Sure enough, on Thursday, July 3, Andor vanished from Hulu's catalog, meaning the show is exclusively available to stream on Disney+.

The move shouldn’t come as a surprise. Though both services are owned by Disney and often share content, Disney has been steadily centralizing its biggest properties on its flagship streamer, and Star Wars is no exception.

Andor was never a Hulu original series, of course. The show debuted in 2022 on Disney+ as one of the boldest and most narratively rich Star Wars series to date, offering an inside look at the Rebellion in the early days of the Empire.

Before Andor, Adria Arjona Starred In An Overlooked Wizard Of Oz Adaptation
Image
Audiences around the world became familiar with Adria Arjona when she appeared as Bix Caleen in the Star Wars series, "Andor." A prequel to "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," the series made an instant impact with the debut of its first season in 2022 and exploded in popularity with the recent release of season 2. "Andor" revealed the backstory of Diego Luna's rebel captain, Cassian Andor, and introduced Arjona as his love interest, Bix.

Cassian and Bix grew up together on the planet Ferrix. Season 1 opened after the two had separated and Bix had entered a relationship with her colleague, Timm Karlo (James McArdle), who was eventually killed by Imperials. It was also Bix who first put Cassian in contact with Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård), the mastermind behind the early Rebellion, who started Cassian on his path towards becoming the spy who would help bring down the Death Star.

In season 1 of "Andor,...

99 Best Movies & TV Shows You Must See On Disney+ UK In July 2025
Image
[Editor's Note: This article is reviewed and updated on a weekly basis.]

It's been five whole years since Disney+ arrived in the UK, changing the streaming game almost overnight and making the daily struggle to choose what to watch next that bit harder. (We know — poor us!) Armed with the Infinity Gauntlet of IP — Marvel, Disney, Star Wars, Pixar, and Fox — and an ever-growing catalogue of offerings pooled from elsewhere, the House of Mouse has created a veritable content utopia where there truly is something for everyone. How many other platforms do you know where you can observe the mechanics of fascism and the cost of revolution through the lens of Star Wars (Andor), cross the Polynesian horizon with a demigod (Moana 2), see Timmy C rock out as a rebel youth Bob Dylan (A Complete Unknown), and see Vikings go toe-to-toe with the Predator (Predator: Killer Of Killers) all without having to switch streamers?

When faced with a platform where you...

Why Andor's Creator Thinks Syril Karn Is The Show's Most Romantic Character
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Andor."

"Andor" is the story of, well, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) and how he goes from a small-time criminal to the rebel that helps bring down the Death Star. But Imperial officer Syril Karn (Kyle Soller), who first tries to arrest Cassian, thinks he's the hero of the story. Syril doesn't question the Empire's evil actions, or his own — until "Andor" season 2, when he learns his girlfriend Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) used him as a tool to help move facilitate a genocide on planet Ghorman.

Fans and critics have described Syril as a "worm" or "bootlicker" (by Soller himself), and he earns those descriptors. He's a bureaucrat looking to climb the ladder, not especially sadistic but with a huge sense of self-importance, even if he can't get out from his belittling mother's (Kathryn Hunter) heel. Syril is unlike other "Star Wars" villains in this way,...

‘The messier, the better’: How ‘Andor’ created the epic, heart-shattering Ghorman Massacre
Image
For the heart-shattering episode of Andor titled “Who Are You?,” which brings to screen the Rebellion-galvanizing Ghorman Massacre, editor Yan Miles’ mantra was: “The messier, the better.” What begins as a peaceful protest among the people of Ghorman turns into a slaughter incited by the Empire. Screams pierce through as flares, smoke, and death consume every chaotic, yet controlled frame.

As roughly 350 extras fight for their freedom and lives, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) attempts to assassinate Imperial officer Dedra Meero (Denise Gough). “The whole thing unravels in front of him,” Miles tells Gold Derby. “He’s not there to protest. He knows these people, he knows what happened before — but now he becomes the witness. He becomes us. The plaza is a circle. You could call it a clock face. People go around, people go in and out of buildings. Cadets come out. People sing. It was always moving, but Cassian stayed centered.

The surprising scene that the ‘Andor’ cinematographer loved the most
Image
Andor Season 2 switched directors every three episodes, but the same wasn’t true of its cinematographers. Christophe Nuyens photographed the first six episodes of the 12-part season, including both the action-packed opening arc and the subsequent introduction of the planet Ghorman.

On Andor, director of photography is not a simple job. Nuyens had to do a lot over the course of his six episodes, from filming action scenes (like Diego Luna’s titular protagonist saving his friends from stormtroopers in a stolen Tie fighter) to figuring out the visual aesthetics for new planets like Ghorman.

“The nice thing is that Episodes 1, 2, and 3 were more like a classic Star Wars arc,” Nuyens tells Gold Derby, “while Episodes 4, 5, and 6 show the more human side of the story. On Ghorman, it feels more like a spy movie. It was really nice to work on both of those. We really tried to give each...

Diego Luna and Tony Gilroy on How ‘Andor’ Crafted the Ghorman Massacre and Fulfilled a ‘Critical Moment in Rebel History’
Image
While mapping out the early stages of “Andor” Season 2, showrunner Tony Gilroy knew he wanted to expand on a pivotal moment that changed everything for the Rebel Alliance: the Ghorman Massacre. Though it was briefly mentioned in a “Star Wars” sourcebook from the 1990s, fans only knew a few things about what occurred on Ghorman, namely that the massacre began when peaceful Ghorman protestors were brutally massacred by the Empire, signaling the official start to the Galactic Civil War.

“We knew that it would be a centerpiece of the show. It’s a centerpiece in canon in the five years that I get to curate. It’s a critical moment in the history of the rebellion, and yet it’s very undescribed,” explained Gilroy in an episode of Variety Making A Scene presented by HBO. “There was a mandate and a demand to do it, but there was no information about what it was,...

The Andor Character That Creator Tony Gilroy Will Miss The Most
Image
The following article contains spoilers for "Andor" season 2.

Nearly a month after its triumphant conclusion, "Andor" is still making waves in more ways than one. A series that, at the time of its initial announcement, was widely considered to be the most unnecessary and uninteresting idea for a "Star Wars" show on Disney+ has proven to be not only the best entry set in George Lucas' original galaxy by lightyears, but also the best piece of "Star Wars" storytelling since 1980, when audiences were left shellshocked at the revelation of Luke Skywalker's father's true identity.

Much of what made "Andor" such a brilliantly constructed series is thanks to its creator and showrunner, Tony Gilroy. This could have easily been a disposable cash grab with endless nostalgia bait and cameos. Instead, Gilroy took the story of one of the Rebellion's true heroes, Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) along with introducing a slew...

Tony Gilroy says Andor's opening scene was an open challenge to Disney
Image
From the very first scene, Andor sets itself apart from other Star Wars productions in tone and subtext. It feels darker, grittier, and with higher stakes than ever before. Despite knowing the fate of the main protagonist and a few others, the series makes us care deeply about Diego Luna's Cassian Andor and his allies, as well as enemies.

Showrunner Tony Gilroy manages to evoke almost as many powerful emotions with the scene of Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) in an Imperial prison as with Luthen Rael's (Stellan Skarsgard) lonely, unconscious death. Many scenes that he wrote proved to be highly divisive, including the much-talked-about on-screen sexual assault attempt by an Imperial officer on Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona).

But when it came to keeping the show rooted in the reality of complex socio-cultural and political themes, Gilroy had never really pulled his punches. The first scene of the first season takes place in a brothel,...

6 Andor season 1 moments that hit differently after season 2
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Andor Season 2.

Now that all episodes of Andor Season 2 have been released, it felt like the perfect time to rewatch Season 1. While I have rewatched Season 1 before, this was my first time since having the context of knowing everything that happens in Season 2. Having this context made me see much of the show and many of the character interactions through a different lens.

Given everything that happens in Season 2, every episode now has scenes that hit differently. This is not an exclusive list by any means, but these are 6 of the moments that had a particularly strong impact on me the second time around.

Tony Gilroy Says Including the Word ‘Genocide’ in ‘Andor’ Was ‘Pretty Effortless’
Image
For all its thrilling spycraft and tactile environments, “Andor” has catapulted to the front of the cultural conversation this spring through its depiction of a rousing — and relatable — rebellion. Fans and critics alike have noted the “contemporary politics” in Tony Gilroy’s Disney+ series, admiring the parallels between galaxies far, far away and our own “world [that’s] collapsing under corporate-fueled autocracy” — a forceful sentiment made all the more so by the franchise’s relatively tame recent entries.

One such high point is a scene in which Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly) delivers a speech to the Galactic Senate and describes the Empire’s recent actions as “genocide.” Featured in Episode 9, “Welcome to the Rebellion,” the moment drew a noticeable reaction when it debuted earlier this month. Many critics applauded Gilroy (and episode writer Dan Gilroy) for having the courage to use a term so often suppressed or denied in real life. That it comes from Mon Mothma,...

Stellan Skarsgård Had One Request For Luthen Rael's Andor Backstory [Exclusive]
Image
The book has officially closed on the two-season saga of "Andor," but we're not even close to prepared to move on just yet. The second season will likely go down as one of the boldest experiments in all of "Star Wars," and a large part of that is due to the original characters that creator Tony Gilroy introduced to the franchise. In a franchise more obsessed than ever with nostalgia and legacy characters, I'm not sure anyone could've expected coming out of "Andor" with a healthy appreciation for people like Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona), Dedra Meero (Denise Gough), or Syril Karn (Kyle Soller).

Out of them all, however, perhaps none stole the show to a greater degree than Stellan Skarsgård's Luthen Rael. The mysterious and utterly ruthless operative brought a whole new flavor of rebellion to our favorite galaxy far, far away. Not only did he play an outsized...

Tony Gilroy Making Dedra Meero a Woman in ‘Andor’ Was Pure Genius That We Don’t Talk About Enough
Image
Tony Gilroy created Andor, which became one of the most successful entries in the Star Wars franchise. The series was praised for its writing and handled character arcs with immense care and nuance. One of the show’s breakout characters was Denise Gough’s Dedra Meero.

During an interview, Gilroy talked about how he created the character, who has several layers despite being essentially an antagonistic force working against the titular hero and the Rebellion. By making Dedra a woman, Gilroy made a genius move that resulted in a multi-faceted character, and here is what the creator had to say about writing Dedra.

Andor creator Tony Gilroy made a genius move while writing Dedra Meero

Andor season 1 introduced actress Denise Gough in the role of Dedra Meero, an Imperial Security Bureau supervisor tasked with hunting down a Rebel operative codenamed Axis. However, when we first meet the character, Dedra is...

The 12 Greatest ‘Andor’ Episodes, Ranked
Image
Andor didn’t just raise the bar for Star Wars television—it practically launched it into hyperspace. What started as a slow-burn character piece in Season 1 grew into one of the most complex, grounded, and thrilling stories ever told in the galaxy far, far away. By the time Season 2 wrapped up, the series had already proven it wasn’t just good—it was top-tier sci-fi, period.

Serving as a prelude to Rogue One, Andor explores the early days of the Rebellion through the eyes of Cassian Andor. He is a reluctant hero whose transformation is both gradual and emotionally engaged. But the show doesn’t just center on one man, though. It builds an entire world around the rise of the Rebellion, filled with politics, sacrifice, moral grayness, and small victories that feel like seismic shifts. The themes dig far deeper than anything Star Wars has done in years.

Groundbreaking New British Mystery Series Earns Coveted Perfect Score on Rotten Tomatoes
Image
The latest in a long line of British thrillers, brand-new ITV mystery series Code of Silence has broken new ground in the hunt for better Deaf-led drama representation on modern television. Created by Catherine Moulton, who herself is partially hearing-impaired, the series stars the multi-talented Strictly Come Dancing winner and Doctor Who alum Rose Ayling-Ellis as a Deaf woman who, upon the force's normal lip-readers becoming preoccupied, is taken from her humble canteen job and placed in a precarious position as a key component in the solving of a difficult criminal case.

Also starring the likes of Kieron Moore, Andrew Buchan, and Ghosts alum Charlotte Ritchie, Code of Silence cemented its groundbreaking status by accompanying its British network debut with an opening advertisement break featuring no sound, giving viewers a taste of what such an experience is like for the hearing-impaired. Andor has been officially submitted to the Emmys
Image
The ball is now rolling to see if Andor will get the big prize: The Emmys. It's been announced that Disney has submitted the series to 23 categories.

Reported by Variety, the Star Wars show is eying the big prizes of Outstanding Drama Series, Directing For A Drama Series, Writing For A Drama Series, and several acting categories. The main focus seems to be around Season 2, episode 8, "Who Are You?" and episode 9, "Welcome to the Rebellion," which focused on the Ghorman Massacre and its aftermath, with Mon Mothma fleeing the Senate. This makes sense as these were the highest praised episodes of the series from fans and critics alike.

Diego Luna is now in the running for Lead Actor In A Drama Series, which Variety also notes might not be Luna's only nomination this year. He's also been submitted for supporting actor (limited series) for the Hulu show La Máquina. It...

How Andor Creator Tony Gilroy Decided Dedra Meero's Fate
Image
Spoilers for "Andor" follow.

The premise of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" offered a chance to see the Pov of the "little people" of the "Star Wars" universe. Rebel soldiers like Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) are the people who help make history happen but wind up, in the long run, forgotten by it. Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) lands the lucky shot to destroy the Death Star, but "Rogue One" recontextualizes how he only got there due to the struggles and sacrifices of many others.

"Rogue One" zoomed out from the villains' centers of power, too. Director Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn) may be head of the Death Star construction project, but he's a middle manager next to Darth Vader (James Earl Jones & David Prowse/Spencer Wilding) and Grand Moff Tarkin (Peter Cushing/Guy Henry).

The freshly-wrapped "Rogue One" prequel series "Andor" extends this Pov by going even further down the totem pole.

The Empire never catches the real 'Axis' in Andor season 2
Image
After watching the two seasons of Andor, we now know that the Rebellion wouldn't have existed without the labor and sacrifices of Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgard) and his network of spies and rebels. They left such a dent on the Empire that dedicated Isb agent Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) chased them to the bitter end.

She named the leader of the rebel cell "Axis" after the incident on Ferrix in Season 1 and made it her life's sole purpose to capture the individual.

In Season 2, episode 10, "Make It Stop," she finally gets her moment when she surprises Luthen at his antique art gallery on Coruscant. This happens shortly after he learns about the existence of the Death Star from Rebel mole Lonni Jung (Robert Emms). But before Dedra can celebrate her win, Luthen stabs himself with a Nautolan bleeder.

He is kept alive on life support, but in no state to talk,...

“It Would Have Been Lame”: Tony Gilroy Explains Why a Jyn Erso Cameo in ‘Andor’ Season 2 Would Have Been “Disrespectful”
Image
Now that both seasons of Andor are streaming in their entirety, fans have full access to Tony Gilroy’s masterpiece that adds important context to the events of Rogue One, the 2016 Star Wars film following the Rebellion’s mission to steal the Death Star plans. Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) plays a major part in the movie, which led fans to wonder if she would feature in Season 2 as part of Cassian’s (Diego Luna) story. Jyn ultimately doesn’t show up in Andor, but there is a mention of her father, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), a scientist famous for his work on crystallography. Andor creator Tony Gilroy recently sat down for an interview with Backstory Magazine, and he was asked why Jyn had no role to play in Andor after being such a crucial figure in Rogue One:

“If people didn't absolutely have to be there, they shouldn’t.

"She Falls at the Last Hurdle": Denise Gough Opens up About Dedra’s 'Andor' Season 2 Fate
Image
Denise Gough plays Dedra Meero in the Star Wars series Andor. A woman dedicated to the Empire and rising up its ranks, Dedra's fate was a lesson for those who uphold fascism. She is left in an Imperial cell alone, there because she tried to get to Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) and prove herself to her superiors. All of this happened after Dedra lost her love when Syril Karn (Kyle Soller) is shot by a blaster during the Ghorman Massacre. And in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, Gough spoke about what happened in the year since Syril's death and what she really thinks about Dedra's final moments.

Syril's death happens when he finally finds Cassian Andor (Diego Luna). He's moments away from killing Cassian himself, but then Carro Rylanz (Richard Sammel) comes to Cassian's aid. When asked about Dedra's response in the year between Episodes 9 and 10, Gough says that his death "ruins her.

Andor Showrunner Tony Gilroy Says There Were Early Discussions About A Princess Leia Cameo
Image
Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy has revealed that he did consider including a cameo from one of the original Star Wars trilogy's leads, Princess Leia Organa, in the second season, but the idea was ultimately scrapped.

"There were some conversations early on, there was much to be made. This is in the sketching stage," Gilroy told ScreenRant. "This is in the really soggy beginning, trying to figure out what to do because trying to figure out, I was trying to make that Investiture Week I idea. I was trying to get the most out of that investiture week and those parties, and we have Alden's party now… and we're making a thing out of it. And we were trying to find out on the timeline where she would be in the Senate."

While an appearance from either Luke Skywalker or Han Solo wouldn't have made much sense, Leia was already...

How Italian Cafes, French Housing, and Sushi Inspired the Look of ‘Andor’
Image
Production designer Luke Hull and set decorator Rebecca Alleway brought the vast scope of Andor’s second season to life with 180 sets, half of which were built from scratch.

The production used a number of real locations in the U.K., Spain, and Italy: Valencia’s futuristic City of Arts and Sciences building was transformed into the Senate complex, while England’s Greenham Common became the Rebel hideout used by Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker). Shots of Lake Como, Italy, were used to augment the planet of Ghorman and farmers’ huts...

Andor's Luthen Has An Even Darker Backstory Than You Probably Imagined
Image
This article contains spoilers for "Andor."

The ending of "Andor" season 2 isn't the show's most bombastic arc, but it does provide some answers to questions we've had from the start. Despite the name of the show, Kleya Marki (Elizabeth Dulau) becomes the real protagonist of the final three episodes, which center around the arrest and death of Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård) and Kleya's subsequent escape from Coruscant with the help of Cassian Andor (Diego Luna), Ruescott Melshi (Duncan Pow), and K-2So (Alan Tudyk).

When Isb supervisor Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) finally tracks Luthen down to his antique shop, he attempts to kill himself to avoid revealing what he knows about the Rebellion. Despite his efforts, Dedra's forces are able to keep him from the brink of death by bringing him to a hospital, where he's put on life support. Knowing that Luthen's secrets -- which now include knowledge...

Andor season 2 was incredible, but I still wish we got to see these 4 storylines
Image
Warning: There are spoilers ahead for Andor season 2.

Andor Season 2 is a remarkable and moving work of art. It is one of the best all-time seasons of any show, and not just in Star Wars. The structure of every three episodes taking place in a different year, leading up to the events of Rogue One, could have felt disjointed. However, the season ends up feeling mostly seamless in its transitions and becomes a deeply satisfying continuation and conclusion to the story that began in Season 1.

While Season 2's structure overall works incredibly well, there are a few times where I could not help but think of the original five-season plan that Tony Gilroy had in mind. There are some storylines between or during each three-episode arc that I would have loved to see further explored. Given the nature of the Star Wars franchise, there is always a chance of these...

Andor | The final episodes provide a powerfully emotional bridge to Rogue One
Image
The last three episodes of Andor season 2 provide an emotional closure for its characters – and a satisfying lead into 2016’s Rogue One.

Nb: The following contains spoilers for Andor seasons 1 and 2.

“The last act makes a film,” ran a terrific line in the 2002 film, Adaptation. “Wow them in the end, and you’ve got a hit.”

Andor season 2 may be a TV show rather than a film, but the sentiment applies: its final three episodes provide a powerful, emotionally satisfying send-off for creator Tony Gilroy’s Star Wars spin-off, its threads connecting forward to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

While watching Andor’s final batch of episodes, I couldn’t help thinking about how organic and heartfelt the show has been, especially given the path it could have taken. This is, after all, a prequel to a prequel – a story that takes place before the events of Rogue One,...

Xavier Samuel in ‘The Stolen Girl’ (Disney/Matt Squire)

Freeform’s five-part limited series The Stolen Girl wraps the season up with an episode that answers the mystery at the heart of the drama. Episode five reveals the past events that led to the kidnapping, and since the following is a recap, there are spoilers ahead. You’ve been warned.

Episode five begins with a flashback to five years before Lucia was taken. Marcus (Xavier Samuel) is on his private jet which Elisa (Denise Gough) works for. After handing him champagne, Elisa seductively caresses his shoulder with a smirk on her face. The action moves forward and finds Elisa and Marcus lying in bed together, discussing their baby. (She’s pregnant with Georgie.) Marcus talks about the adventures they will have together with their son and Lucia. But Elisa says she needs to think about Fred. She confesses she still...

Star Wars: Andor boss explains the ending, loose ends, and the meaning of the show
Image
Andor, a show many Star Wars fans consider to be the best thing to ever come out of the galaxy far far away, ended last night on Disney+. Cassian Andor himself (Diego Luna) ended the series by starting the journey we find him on in the movie Rogue One, which ends (last chance to avoid spoilers) with Cassian successfully stealing the plans for the Death Star but dying in the process. Andor itself was largely about the necessity of sacrifice in the name of rebellion, so it's a fitting end for him.

But the show introduced a new wrinkle. At the very end, we see Cassian Andor's love interest Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona) walking through a picturesque field holding a baby. Although Cassian will never know it, the child is his. Bix left Cassian in the previous suite of episodes, afraid that if she stayed he wouldn't be able to...

'The Best Star Wars Show of All Time': Fans React to Andor Series Finale
Image
Andor has officially wrapped up its two-season run, setting the stage for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. After finishing the series, fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts, and many have declared the show to be the best Star Wars series to have ever been made. Some have taken it a step further to name Andor as the "best piece of Sci-fi Television ever to be created."

"A finale for the ages," as one X post stated. "Andor ends on the highest possible note, not with a bang, but with a somber, and hopeful note, that guides us right into Rogue One while also closing out on every loose end. A perfect finale to a damn near perfect season of television."

Declaring Andor to be a perfect five-star series, another fan posted, "Just finished Andor. What a finale. I couldn’t think of a better ending.

Andor Finale Confirms the Grim Fate of Dedra Meero
Image
Andor Season 2's ending showed what happened to Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) and how her strong dedication to the Empire drastically backfired. Dedra's unwavering loyalty to the Empire has been a crucial part of her story in Andor, as she has risen up the ranks to become a supervisor in the Imperial Security Bureau (Isb).

Andor Season 2 saw Dedra rubbing shoulders with Director Orson Krennic, leading her to become an overseeing figure on Ghorman to justify the Imperial presence on the planet. Krennic pulls some strings to extract calcite within the territory.

Things ultimately took a turn for the worse for Dedra after she lost her love interest, Syril (Kyle Soller), during the infamous Ghorman massacre. Her bad luck didn't stop there after her risky move in Andor Season 2's final batch of episodes cemented her fate.

‘Andor’ Creator Tony Gilroy on the Series Finale, Cassian’s [Spoiler], the Show’s ‘Controversial’ Set and His Next Film With Oscar Isaac
Image
Spoiler Alert: This story includes spoilers for the “Star Wars” series “Andor” and feature film “Rogue One,” both currently streaming on Disney+.

From its inception, “Andor” was designed by creator Tony Gilroy to chronicle what leads rebel spy Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) up to the events of the 2016 “Star Wars” feature film “Rogue One,” which Gilroy co-wrote. In that film, Cassian learns about a high-ranking Imperial officer, Galen Erso (Mads Mikkelsen), leaking a message to his daughter, Jyn (Felicity Jones), about the existence of a top secret super-weapon, aka the Death Star. Knowing he had to connect the numerous storytelling plot strands from “Andor” into the movie’s complicated plot made Gilroy anxious for years. It turns out, he needn’t have worried. “That shit laid down really clean,” he tells Variety with a grin. “It presented itself without the incredible amount of effort that was anticipated.”

The final three...

‘Andor’ Star Elizabeth Dulau Talks Kleya’s Necessary Choice and Being a Key Domino in Star Wars Lore
Image
[This story contains spoilers for Andor season two.]

When Andor creator Tony Gilroy cast Elizabeth Dulau in early 2021, he knew he was getting a talented actor who had just graduated London’s Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada). But he soon realized that he actually hired a budding star who was worthy of significantly more screen time in season two. “By the time we finished season one, everyone on our whole show was just in awe [of Elizabeth]. We don’t have a moment of bad film on her,” Gilroy recently told The Hollywood Reporter.

In season one, Dulau’s character, Kleya Marki, was considered to be the “sorcerer’s apprentice” to Stellan Skarsgård’s Luthen Rael, who was a part-time antiquities dealer and a full-time shadowy leader of the emerging Rebellion. However, season two has now revealed their relationship’s profoundly tragic origin story. Luthen was once an Imperial Sergeant, and during a genocidal raid on adolescent Kleya’s homeplanet,...

Andor: Why Luthen Kills Lonni Jung In Season 2
Image
Stellan Skargard's Luthen Rael makes a devastating choice in Andor's Season 2 finale, one that leaves rebel informant Lonni Jung (Robert Emms) dead. The decision, while heartbreaking, is rooted in the harsh logic of rebellion: too many loose ends could destroy everything.

Andor Season 2, Episode 10, "Make It Stop," delivers a chilling yet fitting sendoff to one of its most compelling rebel spies, Lonni Jung. In doing so, it sharpens the show's portrait of Luthen. While yes, this action depicts him as a killer, it more so demonstrates him as a rebel visionary willing to sacrifice everything and everyone for the cause. Lonni's fate is sealed the moment he uncovers the existence of the Empire's superweapon, the Death Star, hidden within Isb intelligence. Lonni reveals to Luthen that he has had access to Dedro Meero's (Denise Gough) code cert for the past year, which is how he learned about the secret Death Star.

‘Andor’ Season 2 Finale: Tony Gilroy Confirms Who Makes It to ‘Rogue One’ After Cassian
Image
Spoiler Alert !!!This article contains top-secret intel from 'Andor' Season 2 finale.

While we already knew Andor was the gritty prequel to the 2016 Star Wars movie Rogue One, creator Tony Gilroy dropped a bombshell that made our jaws drop. Turns out, Cassian ain’t the only one making power moves toward the rebellion. During an interview with THR, Gilroy revealed that Dedra Meero survived the chaos of the Season 2 finale.

Yes, according to the mastermind behind the series, Denise Gough’s character, the icy Isb queen made it into the Rogue One era. Although she didn’t show up onscreen, Tony Gilroy assures that she’s still out there, locked up in an Imperial prison. Honestly, the Empire’s downfall never looked this spicy.

Andor Season 2 Gives Every Villain The Awful, Righteous Fate They Deserve
Image
After "Rogue One" shocked audiences everywhere by killing every single main character in the movie in very tragic ways, there was reason to believe its prequel series, "Andor," would follow suit. Sure, we knew Diego Luna's Cassian was supposed to make it to the end as he still has a couple of days left in him, but everyone else had a death mark the size of a moon (scratch that -- a space station).

It doesn't help that Tony Gilroy and his team made "Andor" one of the bleakest shows on television by nature of it reflecting so much of our reality, whether that's TV morning shows and news programs acting as propaganda for oppressive regimes, the killing of dissidents for dumb reasons, or the gut punch of an episode that was the Ghorman massacre. It's easy to look at "Andor" and think the show is just too dark and depressing,...

Tony Gilroy On The ‘Andor’ Season 2 Finale, Cassian’s Sister & Disrupting ‘Star Wars’ Canon
Image
Spoiler Alert: The following interview contains spoilers about tonight’s Season 2 finale of Disney+’s Andor.

Star Wars fans can be a finicky bunch, but Tony Gilroy has been fearless, much like the series creator George Lucas, in delivering to them. His Andor is altogether jawdropping in production design, overly layered in its rebel spies and architects’ motivations to unite as one against the Empire and unabashed to get down into the nitty gritty details. Forget about lightsaber fights, at one point during Season 2 there’s a discussion about interest rates in the galaxy. Gilroy started the season on an intentionally fiery note with Diego Luna’s future rebel leader Cassian Andor crashing around in a Tie-Fighter. It was his response to fans saying that Andor Season 1 began to slow. However, as the series ends, Gilroy has opted to end Cassian’s segue into Rogue One with an ease more than a bang.

What happens in the ‘Andor’ finale, and how it leads into ‘Rogue One’
Image
Warning: The following piece contains spoilers about Andor Season 2.

It feels paradoxical that Andor is over. On the one hand, creator Tony Gilroy and his team have been working on the series since at least 2020, with various delays in production and release caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the 2023 Hollywood strikes, so now all that work has finally paid off. On the other hand, how can the most acclaimed Star Wars show be over after only two seasons, when other big-scale genre shows last for years and years?

But because the end of Andor ties so directly into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, which runs right into the original Star Wars, the show is now part of a chain of epic storytelling beyond any release.

One result of that connectivity is that Andor viewers have known how titular hero Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) will die since before the show began.

Andor Season 2 Ending Explained: A Complicated Show Gets A Complicated Ending
Image
This post contains spoilers for all of "Andor" season 2.

I wonder sometimes how we would view the first decade of Disney's ownership of Star Wars as a whole if it weren't for "Andor." The sequel trilogy, which started strong, ended with the most universally disliked film in franchise history. A new streaming era on Disney+ kicked off with a fantastic spin-off in "The Mandalorian," then slowly devolved with less stellar entries like "Obi-Wan Kenobi" and "The Book of Boba Fett." I like "The Bad Batch" and "Tales of the Jedi" as much as the next guy, but the flagship Star Wars stories just started to seem like bad bets. And then "Andor" arrived in 2022, and as far as I'm concerned, none of that other stuff really matters.

It may seem like I'm being hyperbolic, but bear with me. "Andor" is over now, with the final three episodes of season 2 hitting Disney+ this week,...
