The 5th Wave: 2016 Dystopian YA Movie Finds New Life on Netflix
Image
YA dystopian movie adaptations were a major trend during the 2010s. It all started with The Hunger Games movies in 2012, which, based on the books by Suzanne Collins, have made $3.3 billion at the box office and lived on even after the trend has died, with The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes becoming a hit in 2023 and a sequel, Sunrise on the Reaping, set for 2026.

Other examples that found success include the three Maze Runner movies, based on the books by James Dashner, which made $949 million at the box office, and the three Divergent movies, based on the books by Veronica Roth, which, despite being panned by critics, made $765 million at the box office.

Other examples include I Am Number Four (2011), Ender's Game, The Host, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (all 2013), The Giver (2014), and The Darkest Minds (2018). Steven Spielberg even got in on the trend with Ready Player One (2018). However,...

The Shocking Reason Taylor Sheridan Left ‘Sons of Anarchy,’ Explained
Image
Ever since Taylor Sheridan's 2015 hit Sicario debuted, he quickly became a critically revered multi-hyphenate in Hollywood. Award-winning films like Hell or High Water and his Yellowstone television empire soon followed, establishing the Texas native in the industry as a character-focused storyteller, notably ridding himself of writer's room constraints and breaking traditional, plot-driven rules. As his work garners continued praise, fans have turned their attention to his rise to fame. Before discovering his behind-the-scenes talent, Sheridan began his film career as an actor.

Despite becoming a Western staple of modern film and TV, his first claim to fame was FX's outlaw, biker-gang drama Sons of Anarchy. Created and directed by Kurt Sutter, the show follows lead Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam) as he navigates the titular club (often referred to by the acronym Samcro) after his father's death. Although Samcro protects its Californian hometown from various threats, it also runs an illegal arms business.

Most Sons of Anarchy Fans Don't Realize 2 Characters Had a Surprisingly Similar Death (But 1 Is Way More Frustrating)
Image
Sons of Anarchy is never short of deaths. With plenty of blood and violence, the series often portrays shootouts, crossfires, backfires, planned mass murder and so much more. While most characters go out in the same style with a headshot, there are two exceptions, and they share many striking similarities. Among the many tragic deaths that occur on-screen, their deaths make it to the top as well as push the show into a different direction.

Opie and Jax are best friends who share the same background, and it saddens fans that their deaths also seem to mirror each other's. Both Opie and Jax went out willingly and served a greater purpose, which was to end violence. However, Jax's death is much darker, and many would argue that he did have another choice.

When Does Tara Die in Soa - and Who Kills Her?
Image
Sons of Anarchy was no stranger to character deaths throughout its seven seasons and 92 episodes. The FX drama ran from 2008 to 2014, following the life and crimes of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, based in the small town of Charming, California. Due to the club's illicit activities, many of the main cast of characters met violent ends, especially as the series began winding down toward its finale.

One of the most shocking Soa deaths remains that of Tara Knowles (Maggie Siff), the devoted wife of the series' main protagonist, Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam), and the mother of his children. High school sweethearts Jax and Tara reunited during one of the most critical points in his life, and in time, they had a son of their own together and even got married. But their love was doomed from the start, leaving many fans asking why.

Thanks To Mayans Mc, This Sons Of Anarchy Character Appeared In More Episodes Than Jax Teller
Image
The world of Sons of Anarchy expanded with the spinoff TV series Mayans M.C., and thanks to it, one Sons of Anarchy character appeared in more episodes than Jax Teller (Charlie Hunnam). Although Sons of Anarchy gave closure to its main characters and left a more optimistic future for the title motorcycle club, there were still more stories from this world to be explored. The spinoff series Mayans M.C. changed the setting to the fictional border town of Santo Padre to follow the title Mc, but some characters from Sons of Anarchy have made appearances in it.

Sons of Anarchy told the story of Jax Teller, who went from being the clubs VP to its President, though not exactly one whose reign benefited the club. Jaxs issues with other clubs, as well as his family problems, led to his death at the end of Sons of Anarchy, leaving SAMCROs presidency...

One Popular Mad Men Character Was Supposed To Return To The Show (But Never Did)
Image
"Mad Men" has often sparked positive headlines for its compelling, often-inspiring storylines around its female characters like Peggy (Elisabeth Moss) and Joan (Christina Hendricks), but it's never gotten the same praise for the handling of its queer characters. There's a good reason for that: although characters like Sal (Bryan Batt) and Bob Benson (James Wolk) are interesting and well-written, their stories are pretty depressing. Bob never finds love over the course of the series, and Joan's lesbian friend in season 1 has her attempt to come out of the closet politely declined.

The only happy queer characters throughout the series are Kurt (Edin Gali), a minor European character who gives Peggy a cool haircut, and Joyce (Zosia Mamet), Peggy's openly lesbian friend in season 4 -- but both of these characters play minor roles. The most prominent gay character in "Mad Men" is Salvatore Romano, and things don't go well for him.

Mad Men: All 18 Of Don Draper's Mistresses Explained
Image
Don Draper (Jon Hamm) had 19 mistresses throughout Mad Men's seven seasons, not counting his three wives, making all of Don Draper's mistresses difficult to keep up with. Mad Men was one of AMC's prestige series that followed the lives and careers of Madison Avenue advertising executives throughout the 1960s. While the other ad men of Sterling Cooper also carried on extra-marital affairs, Donald F. Draper had the most by far. While Draper is married to Betty Hofstadt (January Jones), the character went on to have an unrivaled infidelity streak.

Despite having two kids with Betty, Don cheated on her numerous times as his advertising career took off. In Mad Men season 3, Betty, who long suspected Don's infidelities, learned that he's really Dick Whitman. Betty divorced Don, who then married his secretary, Megan Calvet (Jessica Pare) between seasons 4 and 5. He couldn't stay faithful to Megan either, and despite attempts...

Sons of Anarchy: Every Samcro Member Who Is Killed Off (& Why)
Image
Jax Teller's journey in "Sons of Anarchy" led to a tragic and poetic end with his suicide to end the cycle of violence. Deaths of key Samcro members like Clay, Opie, and Bobby showcased themes of betrayal, loyalty, and the deadly consequences of club life. From Juice's final betrayal to Bobby's heartbreaking end, each death in "Sons of Anarchy" further deepened the show's narrative and character arcs.

The Sons of Anarchy deaths across its seven seasons helped the show maintain its connection with the Shakespearian tale on which it was based. Created by Kurt Sutter, Sons of Anarchy premiered in 2008 and ended in 2014. It was successful from the beginning, praised for its tone, performances, and the themes it addressed, such as racism and corruption. Filming For Billions Spinoff Will Reportedly Start Soon: Here’s What We Know So Far
Image
Fans may have said their goodbyes to the Showtime series, but the world created within it is yet to be over, with a spinoff already planned and greenlit.

In October 2023, fans of the hit TV series learned that Showtime plans to have not one – or two, mind you – spinoff of the successful series but four.

Hopefully, it won’t go the way most of “Game of Thrones’” spinoffs have gone and every one of them will see production.

Speaking of production, “Billions: London” is gearing up to start filming in August. To maintain familiarity with the original show, even though we’re headed to a brand new location, the network has wisely retained original creators and executive producers Brian Koppelman and David Levien.

What Can Fans Expect From the “Billions” Spinoffs

While details surrounding the new project is under lock and key at the moment, we know enough to know...

Retro Review: Sons of Anarchy Is a Ride Worth Taking
Image
The following contains spoilers for all seven seasons of Sons of Anarchy.

Airing on FX from September 2008 through December 2014, Sons of Anarchy is a series that may not have left as big a cultural impact as comparable properties from that time period. However, with a full 10 years now separating viewers from the beautifully tragic end of Samcro's story, it's as good a time as any to strap on your helmet, dust off your cut, sew on your patch and revisit this gripping biker drama.

Sons of Anarchy centers on the eponymous Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club's flagship Redwood Originals charter, based in the fictional California town of Charming. The seven-season story is told from the perspective of Charlie Hunnam's Jackson "Jax" Teller, who can simultaneously be the most enjoyable and most frustrating part of the series. The overarching plot begins to unfold almost immediately in the pilot when Jax...

'Sons of Anarchy's Most Painful Moment Marked the Beginning of the End
Image
While it's been almost a decade since Sons of Anarchy aired its finale, the series still lives rent-free in our minds as one of the best dramas ever. The reason is that Sons of Anarchy never pulled any punches when it came to killing characters and destroying fans' hopes about the future. However, despite dealing with explicit violence, the series never did things for shock value alone, using its most painful moments to explore the grim nature of villains or to show the distressing consequences of a criminal life. Still, while every brutal scene of Sons of Anarchy served the story and the characters, we would be lying if we said some of these moments didn't scar us for life. While there are many painful plot developments in the show, from Opie's (Ryan Hurst) sacrifice to the murder of Tig's (Kim Coates) daughter, Tara's (Maggie Siff) violent death...

If You Miss Succession, Watch Paul Giamatti’s TV Drama That Just Ended After 7 Seasons
Image
Paul Giamatti's show "Billions" is a perfect replacement for fans missing HBO's "Succession." "Billions" centers around power struggles and underhanded dealings in New York's high-class society, just like "Succession." Both shows feature antihero characters and explore similar themes about the ultra-rich and dark humor.

After Succession's dominant run through the recent Golden Globe awards, another Golden Globe winner, Paul Giamatti, may be able to provide the perfect replacement for those missing the HBO smash hit. Succession ended last year after its fourth season, and it's getting a lot of buzz during awards season. With the show back in the news, it has renewed fans' interest and left them searching for any other suitable replacements that can fill the Logan Roy-sized hole in their prestige television watching.

Paul Giamatti, fresh off his win for Best Male Actor - Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy for The Holdovers, actually starred in...

Dispatches From The Picket Lines: Actors In NYC Hopeful For Deal But Managing Expectations – “It’s A Fine Line”
Image
This is Day 112 of the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Striking actors in New York City hit the picket lines in extra layering Thursday with the weather turning colder and their union’s strike against studios and streamers extending into its fifth calendar month.

Amid reports of progress in the talks out west between SAG-AFTRA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, picketers spotted Thursday outside AMPTP member company offices in Manhattan included Annabella Sciorra, Terry Kinney, Kelly AuCoin, Glenn Fleshler, Stephen Kunken, Carrie Gibson, Michael Cyril Creighton, Frank C. Williams and Stephanie D’Abruzzo.

Actors said that they are doing their best to balance hopes for a settlement — which have been dashed before — with managed expectations while most continue to go without paying work.

“It’s a fine line,” Gibson, a SAG-AFTRA strike captain who had a recurring role on Max’s Barry, told Deadline at a picket outside NBCUniversal headquarters at Rockefeller Center.

‘Billions’ Creators Break Down Dual Forces Driving the Series Finale: ‘Their Souls Are in Peril’
Image
[Editors Note: The following interview contains spoilers for the “Billions” finale, Season 7, Episode 12, “Admirals Fund.”]

“Billions” ends not with one man reigning supreme, but two titans shaking hands. Chuck (Paul Giamatti) and Axe (Damian Lewis) joined forces early in Season 7 and — despite a history filled with trickery and betrayal — remain loyal to the very end. Along with their devout team of stock traders and political savants, the duo takes down Mike Prince (Corey Stoll) and his bid for the presidency, before parting ways as friends. Chuck will continue working for the state of New York, while Axe is back behind the soon-to-be sleek desk of his hedge fund.
