Euphoria Star's New Netflix Conspiracy Series Becomes Global Hit
Image
Euphoria star Colman Domingo's new Netflix conspiracy series has become a global hit. Following his breakout on Broadway, the actor transitioned to television with early roles in various incarnations of Law & Order, though his big television breakout came as Victor Strand in AMC's Fear the Walking Dead. However, it was Domingo's role in Euphoria as Rue's sponsor and a recovering drug addict, Ali, that earned him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.

Though he's perhaps better known for his roles on television, Domingo has appeared in many movies, such as Lincoln, Selma, If Beale Street Could Talk, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Zola, The Color Purple, and Sing Sing. However, after his Emmy win, it was his performance as the titular civil rights activist in the Netflix film Rustin that earned him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. Netflix's New Thriller Miniseries With Colman Domingo Is An Instant Hit
Image
There isn't a more exciting actor working today than Colman Domingo. The West Philadelphia born-and-raised began his career in the mid-1990s on the Bay Area stage, where he shined in numerous Shakespeare productions and in plays like "Journey to the West," "Desk Set" and "Fences." He occasionally booked work in film and television for a solid decade, but didn't really pop on screen until 2011, when he received a Tony Award nomination for his performance in Susan Stroman's production of John Kander and Fred Ebb's "The Scottsboro Boys." Hollywood took note, and Domingo gradually became a familiar face in movies and on TV series.

Domingo had amply flaunted his commanding presence by 2018 when he got what felt like something of a breakthrough role in Barry Jenkins' superb "If Beale Street Could Talk." The promise of that performance was realized and then some two years later in Janicza Bravo's sizzling "Zola,...

Euphoria Star’s New Conspiracy Thriller Show Debuts To Modest Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Rotten Tomatoes has had a lukewarm response to a new show featuring one of the stars of Euphoria. The popular HBO teen drama, which was created by Sam Levinson and is based on the 2012 Israeli miniseries of the same name, is set in the fictional East Highland, California and follows the trials and tribulation of teenage addict Rue (Zendaya) as well as the classmates and adults in her orbit. The show debuted with season 1 in 2019, followed by season 2 in 2022. The upcoming season 3 was officially renewed in February 2022.

The Euphoria cast features a robust ensemble bringing the various characters in and around the high school to life. Many of these stars have gone on to other major projects, including Zendaya, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, and Hunter Schafer. However, not all of these projects are well-received on Rotten Tomatoes.

Netflix’s Thriller Series 'The Madness' Gets Divisive Response From Critics
Image
The latest thriller series from Netflix has landed a divisive score on Rotten Tomatoes. Starring Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo, The Madness is a political thriller limited series and finds the acclaimed actor as a media pundit who finds himself being hunted from all sides after stumbling across a deadly conspiracy. The first reviews for the Netflix effort are now in, with critics somewhat divided over whether the show delivers, as demonstrated by The Madness scoring 64% on the review aggregator site.

We begin with Martin Carr of Cbr who, while feeling that The Madness plays to formula, found a lot to enjoy in watching Colman Domingo attempt to survive. Declaring that the series “owes everything to Colman Domingo’s commanding performance,” they added...

“The Madness might feel formulaic, but Domingo elevates this Netflix conspiracy thriller with a compelling performance, flipping between insulated media pundit to protective father figure in a heartbeat.

4 underrated Netflix shows you missed in November 2024
Image
As another winds down, it's always a good idea to take a spin on Netflix and see what you missed. That's exactly what I did for November 2024. And, I have to say, there were some really good and underrated shows that most Netflix viewers probably missed.

No, I'm not talking about the biggest shows. Everyone knows Outer Banks season 4, Cobra Kai season 6 part 2, and Arcane season 2 premiered in November. Those shows are all over the Netflix Top 10! Everyone was talking about those shows before the new seasons came out. Even A Man on the Inside, the new Netflix original series from Michael Schur and starring Ted Danson, was more hyped up than the shows we picked for this list.

Let's get the list started with a sneaky good series that needs to return for a new season soon, The Cage!

The one thriller limited series you have to watch before 2024 ends
Image
It's no surprise that limited series continue to rank among the most popular titles on Netflix each month. They're historically shorter than your average television series and tell a full story that's perfect for a one-sitting binge-watch. This year alone has boasted its fair share of hit limited series on Netflix, but there's one more you need to squeeze in before the year comes to an end.

Academy Award nominee and Emmy Award winner Colman Domingo stars in Netflix's conspiracy thriller limited series The Madness, which makes its premiere on Thursday, Nov. 28, otherwise known in the United States as Thanksgiving. Everyone loves escaping into a good pulse-pounding thriller series, and this one's not to be missed. It's got everything: murder, a great story, and a strong cast.

Here's a little bit about the show via its official logline:

‘The Madness’ Cast and Character Guide: Who Stars in Netflix’s Conspiracy Thriller?
Image
Colman Domingo delivers a modern-day “The Fugitive”-style paranoid thriller with Netflix’s new limited series “The Madness.” The “Rustin” and “Euphoria” star takes on the role of Muncie Daniels, a lauded CNN commentator who finds his spotlight turned against him when he stumbles onto the dead body of a high-profile white supremacist and winds up getting framed for the crime. With mysterious, seemingly ultra-powerful forces aligning against him, Muncie has to uncover the truth behind the convoluted web of money, politics and murder that led him there.

The eight-episode series surrounds Domingo with an ensemble full of familiar actors, so if you’re wondering where you’ve seen them before, here’s a handy guide to the cast and characters of “The Madness.”

The Madness TV Review: Colman Domingo is great in Netflix’s contemporary take on The Fugitive
Image
Plot: Muncie Daniels is a respected media pundit who thinks he has it all. When he’s framed for the murder of a white supremacist, he must clear his name, protect his family, and unravel a high-level conspiracy before time runs out.

Review: The concept for the hit 1960s series The Fugitive spawned an award-winning box office hit in 1993 starring Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones but failed to ignite much buzz when it was rebooted on the small screen twice, in 2000 and 2020. While it does not share any official connections with the story of Dr. Richard Kimble and his search for a one-armed man who killed his wife, the new Netflix series The Madness may be the closest anyone has gotten to capturing the paranoia and tension that made The Fugitive so good. Led by Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo in one of his best performances to date, The Madness is...

The Madness Review: Unraveling a Systemic Nightmare
Image
“The Madness” follows Muncie Daniels, a CNN political analyst seeking isolation in a Poconos cabin while writing a book, whose life takes a tragic turn when he finds a horrible murder. The victim is a well-known white supremacist leader, and Muncie is swiftly accused of murder, shifting from a renowned media star into a desperate fugitive attempting to clear his reputation.

Muncie discovers a mutilated body while on a solitary retreat during a power outage. The victim is a member of The Forge. This far-right organization puts Muncie in an extremely difficult position as a Black man suspected of murdering a white supremacist. Local law enforcement instantly accuses him, relying on racial dynamics and systemic biases to establish a fairly solid case.

Muncie is forced to conduct an impromptu investigation, navigating a perilous landscape of political corruption, media manipulation, and lethal power dynamics. He grudgingly reconnects with his estranged family and a few potential allies,...

The Madness Ending Explained: What Is the Conspiracy and Is Muncie Safe?
Image
In the final seconds of The Madnessseason finale, Muncie Daniels (Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo) seems to have everything he’s ever wanted. The TV pundit has survived a harrowing ordeal that framed him for murder and cleared his name. Far from the clutches of the global elite, he can enjoy barbecuing with both of his children — formerly distant Kallie (Gabrielle Graham) and recently resentful Demetrius (Thaddeus J. Mixson). And now, much to Muncie’s own surprise, his estranged wife, Elena (Marsha Stephanie Blake), even shows up to the park. Although Muncie and Elena share no words, their long-held eye contact and warm smiles hint that their love is far from dead. The panic of the conspiracy feels far away, at least for a few seconds.

“I think [Muncie] had to fight for Elena. Literally,” The Madness star Domingo tells Tudum. “Marsha Stephanie and I always played the notes that they were still...

Colman Domingo Netflix Thriller ‘The Madness’ Is a Schlocky Mess: TV Review
Image
A project like “The Madness” ought to be a feather in the cap of someone like Colman Domingo. Though the performer has been working steadily for decades, a few years’ worth of increasingly prominent roles — in “Euphoria,” “Zola” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” among others — has culminated in milestone moments like an Oscar nomination (for “Rustin”), a potential second on the way (for “Sing Sing”) and a spot on the cover of this very magazine. And because limited series are now part of the routine for A-list actors, the eight-part Netflix thriller should help cement Domingo’s status as he once again hits the awards trail.

There’s just one problem: while Domingo acquits himself just fine as an increasingly frenzied man on the lam, “The Madness” itself is a schlocky mess, its pulpy appeal dimmed by a drawn-out runtime and attempts at social commentary that fail to find their mark.

‘The Madness’ Review: Colman Domingo Anchors Netflix’s Timely but Overstuffed Political Thriller
Image
Like the paranoid notions that drive their protagonists, conspiracy thrillers are constantly shifting. The genre is remarkably malleable; the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s produced some of the form’s best — “The Manchurian Candidate,” “Three Days of the Condor,” “Blow Out” — each of which iterated on the hallmarks of the form. A good political thriller is often decidedly of the moment, with enough meat on its bones to become timeless as it ages, and there’s certainly no shortage of material to draw on, given our current political climate.

The arrival of Netflix’s “The Madness” couldn’t be more timely if it tried. Anchored by Colman Domingo, the 8-episode limited series created by Stephen Belber and co-showrun with VJ Boyd kicks off its premise in pretty short order: When media pundit Muncie Daniels (Domingo) becomes the prime suspect in the murder case of a notable white supremacist in the Poconos woods,...

The Madness ending, explained
Image
The Madness starring Colman Domingo is now streaming on Netflix! I watched all eight episodes of the Netflix original miniseries, and it's confusing! There are a lot of misdirections in this one, so I shared how exactly all the main storylines conclude in the season finale, "No More Madness."

The series from Stephen Belber begins when Muncie Daniels, played by Domingo, takes a break from his stressful life in Philadelphia as a TV host to write his book in the Poconos. There, Muncie witnesses a murder. Then, his life quickly begins to unravel as someone tries to pin the murder on him.

That's where things begin, but they do not stay there. It's quite the ride as Muncie tries to prove his innocence and get to the bottom of the mystery. Doing so, requires Muncie to find Mark Simon's killer and then convince the authorities to do something about it.

‘The Madness’ Review: A Topical Paranoid Thriller That Doesn’t Say Much at All
Image
Netflix’s eight-episode miniseries The Madness, created by playwright Stephen Belber, begins with Muncie Daniels (Colman Domingo) escaping the hustle and bustle of life as a high-profile media pundit to spend some time out in the Poconos. His plans for a relaxing getaway quickly evaporate when the man staying in the cabin next door turns up dead. Muncie becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation, and he quickly finds himself on the run, desperately trying to figure out why he’s being framed, and by whom.

The Madness is at its most enjoyable when it’s in full Fugitive mode, with its protagonist trying to unravel a complex criminal conspiracy. The situation gets even more complicated when the dead man is revealed to be a member of a neo-Nazi group with connections to some seriously powerful people. From that point on, every white face becomes a potential threat to Muncie.

Interview: Colman Domingo gets into The Madness!
Image
For 109 episodes, Colman Domingo played the role of Victor Strand on Fear the Walking Dead. That show came to an end last year, and Domingo has moved on with The Madness, a Netflix series that the streamer’s scripted series vice president Peter Friedlander has described as “a fresh take on the conspiracy thriller” that will turn “the genre on its head with its multilayered characters, propulsive action and swift pace.” I was fortunate enough to talk to star Domingo about his work as Muncie Daniels on the show, a complex role that really pushes him to his limits. Colman Domingo unravels a conspiracy in Netflix’s ‘The Madness’ trailer
Image
Academy Award nominee Colman Domingo is getting his much-deserved first TV lead role in “The Madness,” a limited series coming to Netflix later this month. On Thursday, the streaming service released a trailer for the political thriller, which is likely to be Netflix’s big hit of Thanksgiving weekend.

Netflix’s New Releases Coming in November 2024
Image
A topical historical drama depicting the creation of IVF; a paranoid thriller series starring Colman Domingo; a bracingly original crime musical, and awards contender, from Jacques Audiard; the second part of the final season of Cobra Kai; and a reverential big-screen adaptation of a Pulitzer-winning August Wilson play are some of the highlights among the new films and series hitting Netflix in November.

On Nov. 7, action and mystery drama Outer Banks returns to Netflix. The first half of season four ended with several cliff-hangers for the Pogues, many of which should be resolved, to some degree, in the second half of the season. The cast have promised “craziness” so expect some more jaw-dropping revelations.

In a big movie month for Netflix,...
