“Dear Remy”: Hollywood Career Coach Gives Advice on Emmy Snubs and Clients Who Misbehave
Image
I Keep Waiting for My Turn… And Waiting… And Waiting…

Dear Remy,

As you may know, the Emmy nominees list has recently been announced. And for the 30th year running, I am not on it.

I have been writing for TV and film my entire adult life, and have had a number of shows come close to being on the list for that coveted winged trophy. But each and every year I am snubbed. It feels like when I was at school and I wasn’t picked for any sports teams. Back then I could go and sulk with the chess nerds but these days they’re all making 20 times my yearly income in Silicon Valley.

I believe my writing is sensitive, playful, unfiltered. I am not afraid to touch on subjects that others might flinch from. And I am not Catholic about genre – I’ve worked in historical fantasy,...

Amazon Prime Video New Releases: March 2021

There’s never a bad time for a new superhero show, mind you. But with Amazon’s brilliantly bloody The Boys having been off air for five or so months now, the streaming world is particularly due for a new supe. With its list of new releases for March 2021, Amazon is going to be rectifying that.

The animated adaptation of Robert Kirkman’s comic series Invincible is set to arrive on Amazon Prime this March 26. Kirkman’s comic series is a colorful, thrilling, and violent take on superhero myths and the series that it inspired will feature a truly impressive cast. Take that all into account and this will be an important addition to the streaming superhero canon.

Also arriving in March is another big ticket item for Amazon. The long-awaited Coming to America sequel, Coming 2 America, will premiere on March 5. Eddie Murphy returns as Prince Akeem Joffer who...

But Jo's no-nonsense approach didn't sit well with the couple. They they decided they didn't want her help anymore. But Jo wasn't willing to give up so quickly. She went back in hopes of helping the couple, and they did eventually...

Let's call time on the moral lectures – I'll drink to that | Catherine Bennett
Bullingdon boys on booze, Gwyneth on carbs – being told what to do by pseudo-experts is hard to stomach

Even if the case for drink pricing were not medically overwhelming, it is obvious that any decent person would prefer to be on the same side of an argument as Dr Sarah Wollaston, the admirable Totnes MP, as opposed to the wheedling teen-poisoners of the drinks industry. And yet, in the days when Cameron was also disposed to deplore the availability of cheap alcohol, in the same stern yet saddened voice in which he admonishes fat people who buy discounted chocolate oranges, memories of his Sunday drinks in one of those beamed country pubs where the daughters of the gentry are traditionally left in the lavatories just would not be repressed.

Equally, when the prime minister used to say, by way of a drink-pricing justification: "It's just too easy for people to...

'Supernanny' Jo Frost on Her TV Replacement: 'I Am Not At All Happy'
Jo Frost in Supernanny (2005)

A year ago we heard the news that 'Supernanny' Jo Frost had quit her successful ABC television show to get married and have children of her own. Now, just as 'Supernanny' production company Shed Media is about to launch 'America's Supernanny' on Lifetime, Frost's come out swinging and denies that was ever her plan.

She says that not only was the story about her starting a family totally invented by Shed Media, but that their new 'Supernanny,' Deborah Tillman, doesn't have the right credentials for the job.

Frost told 'The Daily Mail' that "I decided to leave after season seven, earlier this year. But then they [Shed Media] made up this story that I was running off to get married and have children. I am not at all happy. I feel like I worked really hard to get where I am. I am Supernanny.

Maksim Chmerkovskiy at an event for The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards (2009)
Dancing With the Stars Recap: Mad Maks
Maksim Chmerkovskiy at an event for The 61st Primetime Emmy Awards (2009)
I’ve always harbored a secret dream of seeing SuperNanny Jo Frost cast on Dancing With the Stars, but never moreso than during this week’s blowout battle between Maksim Chmerkovskiy and our maddening panel of judges. The thing is, though, I’m not sure who was more in need of some stern British discipline.

Oh sure, Maks should’ve been sent directly to the Naughty Step — without passing go, and without collecting $200 — for freaking out over a not-unwarranted negative critique and suggesting Len Goodman was too old for primetime, but there was a legitimate point behind his temper tantrum:...

Supernanny Supports American Society For The Prevention of Cruelty To Children
Determined to raise public awareness to what many are calling the “silent epidemic,” the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children launched this week with a series of online videos reminding everyone to Think before they act out on a child.

By starting a public dialogue and increasing awareness of this destructive behavior, it is the goal of the American Spcc to stop child abuse before it starts, stem the cycle of abuse that can run through generations, and to remind abuse survivors that they are not alone. Internationally recognized childcare advocate Jo Frost (the Supernanny) is among the celebrities who are lending their support to the cause.

The statistics are alarming: in the U.S., it is estimated that one in two children suffer from some form of abuse. One in four girls and one in six boys will report an act of sexual abuse. Equally sobering...

The London Horror Festival Presents Five Weeks of Theatrical Terror
What does your average film festival run for? A weekend, maybe a full week? Across the pond at the London Horror Festival, they're giving you five weeks of madness from October 25 through November 27 (thus, their Halloween is only the beginning tagline). Oh, and one other thing ... they're acting it out live every night! Any festival can pop on a movie reel, sit back and relax. These blokes have to dig down deep for every single performance ... three shows a night!

I've never heard of a five-week horror-based theatrical event, but I think it's a bloody great idea! Why do we always need the folks from the UK showing us how to do things properly? If it's not Simon Cowell or that Piers Morgan dude trying to set us straight, then it's Gordon Ramsey gagging on our inferior cooking or "Supernanny" Jo Frost whipping our kids into shape. Come on, America,...
