The story of Spartacus has been around for 2,000 years but it's time for the Starz TV show to come to an end. Despite the fact that it's been a ratings success for them, the cable channel has said that Spartacus: War of the Damned is the last season. Will more people tune in to see the show end?

Fans of Starz's "Spartacus" franchise were saddened to hear that the third season, "War of the Damned," would be the final season.

So why did Starz decide to end a show that averaged 6 million viewers per episode after its second season? At the Television Critics Press Association Summer Press Tour, Starz CEO and president Chris Albrecht said, "Better to leave people wanting more than to risk repeating ourselves and diminishing the impact of the franchise."

Albrecht added that he joined Starz when Season 1 of "Spartacus," "Blood and Sand," was in post-production and everyone attached to the project was "always well aware that this was going to be a very different show once the slaves were in the hills ... We ended up having to tell two distinct stories, which is something you don't really want to do in serialized drama."

On Monday, June 4, Starz announced that their hit show "Spartacus" wouldn't go beyond Season 3. Though fans will be disappointed to hear the news, it sounds like this season is going to be even more intense than the last. Zap2it spoke to executive producer Steven DeKnight, who gave us some information about what we're going to see in the final season "Spartacus: War of the Damned."

He tells us a bit more about the new character Crassus, played by Simon Merrels. "We have mentioned that Crassus is kind of the "Elite Roman Boogie Man". Everybody whispers about Crassus. You don't want to cross Crassus. We really knew that we were gonna introduce Crassus, but we wanted to lay in that feeling that this is a guy that not only the rebels fear, but also other Romans fear. Merrells, who we brought in, has been doing a fantastic job."

"Spartacus" has just added three new names to the show. Anna Hutchison, Jenna Lind and Gwendoline Taylor have joined the cast of the hit Starz series about the life of the rebel gladiator.

According to a press release from Starz, Hutchison will play Laeta, the privileged wife of a Roman dignitary who becomes entangled in the struggle against Spartacus. Her life and those of the ones she loves are forever changed by the conflict.

Lind will play Kore, a loyal slave to Marcus Crassus the Roman tasked to bring an end to Spartacus and his rebellion. Her deep feelings for her master will be sorely tested by spiraling events.

Taylor will play Sibyl, a beautiful young slave rescued from Roman cruelty. Now free, she will embark on a journey that will touch the lives of key leaders in the rebellion.

"Spartacus: Vengeance" ended it's season with the deaths of many cast members.

Filming has already begun in New Zealand for the international sword and sandal hit-show, Spartacus and the cast is adding Anna Hutchison (Cabin in the Woods, Underbelly: Tale of Two Cities), Jenna Lind (Burning Man) and Gwendoline Taylor (Go Girls) as regulars in the upcoming season.

It’s been a busy day of casting news. Following the bloody finale of Spartacus: Vengeance, there are a few holes to be filled in the cast. For Spartacus’ third season, Starz has already announced the casting of three pretty women, all with much different roles to play in the saga. EW.com has the scoop. Anna Hutchison, the fantastically over the top actress from Cabin In The Woods plays Laeta, the wife of a powerful Roman. Jenna Lind will be Kore, a slave who doesn’t mind her position for Marcus Crassus. Rounding out the trio, Gwendoline Taylor was cast as Sibyl, a slave newly freed from Roman tyranny.

A one night stand turns deadly for a college student when he sleeps with the niece of the person he is house sitting for.

What might seem like a standard film premise is given a nice horror twist. The first half is a little bit slow at times. The principal setting of Crush could have been used more effectively to create an eerie atmosphere. However, once the plot develops, Crush comes alive with energy and momentum. Crush becomes this rollercoaster ride of suspense. Emma Lung and Christopher Egan generate some fireworks with dynamic confrontational scenes. There is effective stalking scenes between protagonist and antagonist. A memorable dream sequence really hits the spot in creating tension and unease. And the finale is refreshingly unexpected.

John Soto's (Needle, Prey) Crush is a thriller film from Australia that puts Christopher Egan in the central role of an isolated housesitter. The film pays homage to Fatal Attraction with the tagline "Attraction Can Be Fatal," and the film offers a unique twist on the love affair gone very wrong angle. As well, the soundtrack enhances a visually appealing film from cinematographer Richard Malins (Stump, Crush).

The film's storyline centrally involves Julian (Egan), a prize winning martial arts champion. Egan is a multi-faceted character with a love for the drink and an occasional beautiful woman. These very human weaknesses land Julian in hot waters with his girlfriend, employer, teacher, and coach when Julian turns to the sexy Anna (Emma Lung) for intimacy and excitement.

Phase 4 Films will distribute the sexual revenge thriller Crush on DVD July 13th to North American audiences and this first clip shows Emma Lung as Anna seducing Julian (Christopher Egan), an already attached housesitter. Shot in Australia, Crush also includes a supernatural element, which is likely witchcraft, in an independently shot feature from Nexus 6 Films. Comparable to Basic Instinct, Fatal Attraction and others Crush will be available shortly and can be enjoyed in this early feature length trailer below.

The synopsis for the film here:

"Julian, an exchange student and disgraced martial arts champion, is seduced by a mysterious and beautiful woman, Anna, while house-sitting a lavish mansion. Anna's infatuation and obsessive behavior soon turns Julian's life into a living hell here not even his martial arts skills can save him" (Phase 4).

Former Home and Away and new NBC series Kings star Chris Egan will feature in the new Australian thriller Crush. The film, which has been picked up for theatrical release in the first half of 2009, also stars The Jammed ‘s Emma Lung and Underbelly star Jenna Lind. Written and co-directed by John Soto with Jeff Gerritsen, the film tells the story of university student Julian (Egan) who is seduced by the mysterious Anna (Lung).
