Inter Medya has tightened its grip on the global market with fresh deals for Valley of Hearts (Siyah Kalp), the Cappadocia-set family saga penned by celebrated writer Yıldız Tunç and produced by Tims &B Productions. The distributor confirmed new licences with broadcasters in Georgia, Hungary and Chile, bringing the tally to more than 30 territories since the series bowed last September on Turkey’s Atv. Earlier in the year Mediaset Italy picked up the title after its prime-time debut episode topped the night’s ratings, signalling robust European demand for contemporary Turkish “dizi.”
Starring Ece Uslu, Hafsanur Sancaktutan and Aras Aydın, the 26-episode first season follows abandoned twins Nuh and Melek as they track down the mother who left them and upend her wealthy new household. Director Uluç Bayraktar captures the region’s volcanic valleys while cinematographer Mete Aksu tints the landscape in warm ambers designed to mirror the show’s light-and-dark moral palette.

Turkish cinema brings a fresh twist to the detective genre with 10 Days of a Curious Man, now streaming on Netflix. This engaging film stars Nejat İşler as the enigmatic Sadık, a character balancing a mysterious past with a newfound goal of becoming an author. Directed by Uluç Bayraktar and based on Mehmet Eroglu’s novel, the film blends humor, intrigue, and a uniquely Turkish setting that captivates audiences.
The Return of Sadık: An Unlikely Detective-Turned-Novelist
Sadık, brought to life by Nejat İşler, is a character fans of Turkish cinema may already know. Once caught up in vices like drugs and alcohol, Sadık has now chosen the more introspective path of writing a novel. Unfortunately, his first attempt lacks the suspense he envisioned, prompting him to take on a new “research” project—a real case that immerses him in the tangled web of real estate speculation in Istanbul. This decision...

When you hear the term “private investigator,” what are some of the fictional characters that come to your mind? Sherlock Holmes is probably the most popular choice, he’s appeared in books, films, TV shows, stage plays, and in animated form. Then there is, of course, Hercule Poirot, who has regained popularity thanks to Kenneth Branagh’s movies. Philip Marlowe, especially when played by Elliott Gould, is amazing. Feluda and Byomkesh Bakshi are some great picks, especially if you’ve grown up reading about them and watched them in movies. If you are willing to straddle the line between investigator and vigilante, there’s Batman. Benoit Blanc from the Knives Out movies has become quite the pop-culture icon in a short period of time. Holland March and Jackson Healy from The Nice Guys are my personal favorites. With all that said, the one name that I hope is never uttered...

Industry insiders couldn’t hide their excitement about the English-language series “El Turco,” which bowed a first-look trailer at Mipcom. Neither could its protagonist Can Yaman.
“I can’t wait for people to meet him,” said the Turkish star.
In a show based on a true story, Yaman plays an Ottoman Janissary who finds refuge in an Italian village of Moena after the battle of Vienna in 1683. Nursed back to health by a local witch, he slowly convinces the villagers to fight for their rights.
“I first went to Italy to do ‘Sandokan’ but it had to be pushed back, also because of the pandemic,” he revealed, opening up about his unusual acting trajectory. In that show, he’ll be joined by Ed Westwick and John Hannah. In the meantime, Yaman also acted in “Viola Come il Mare.”
“It was a great chance for me because I actually studied Italian in my childhood.

In “El Turco,” which is produced by Turkey’s Ay Yapim, Yaman plays 17th Ottoman soldier Hasan Balaban, who was wounded during the Turkish army’s campaign to conquer Vienna in 1683 and ended up some 200 kilometers away in the Italian Alpine village of Moena. Nicknamed “El Turco” by the villagers, he led the locals to a clamorous revolt against unfair taxes that made him a local hero.

10 Days of a Good Man, the Turkish Netflix original film, was convoluted enough, even though the climax had a surprising twist. The sequel 10 Days of a Bad Man, released on August 18, 2023, on the platform, is a continuation of the first film. Directed once again by Uluç Bayraktar and written by Mehmet Eroglu and Damla Serim, both movies are adaptations of Mehmet Eroglu’s novels. The story is built in a way to create mystery and intrigue.
10 Days of a Bad Man begins with Sadik, who now refers to himself as Adil, recovering from a car accident. He is immediately brought in front of Sir, the gangster from the first film, by the mafioso’s henchmen, Zeynel and Huso. Even though Sir and Sadik’s deal was closed two years ago, Sadik now owes him a lot of money because of the car accident and the subsequent hospital bills paid by the gangster.

10 Days of a Good Man (Iyi Adamin 10 Günü) is a movie directed by Uluç Bayraktar starring Nejat Isler.
A Turkish thriller in the purest Hollywood style with an unmistakable Humphrey Bogart touch… Turkish style.
A kind of Philip Marlowe parody (no secret) that is entertaining and refreshing. But is it good and original? Not at all, but it is gratifying to meet the character again and bring him back to these times that are so different to those days.
Movie Review 10 Days of a Good Man (2023)
It’s neither great nor will it go down in history with all its conscious parodying of an obviously televisual format with regard to the photographic and plot aspects. However, it is entertaining in a familiar way and has a very eighties touch in terms of script structure, scene conception and general planning.
A very classic touch.
Mind you, it is a Turkish film,...
