Hulu has set a July premiere date for Zarna Garg’s new comedy special, TheWrap can exclusively reveal.

The special, titled “Zarna Garg: Practical People Win,” will premiere Friday, July 18 on Hulu. The streamer also revealed a first-look, which you can find below.

In the special, which marks Garg’s Hulu debut, the comedian will take aim at husbands, kids, in-laws and anyone who dares question an Indian mom’s wisdom, per the official logline. The hour-long special was filmed at Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco.

This is all part of Hulu’s Hularious stand-up comedy slate, which kicked off back in November with Jim Gaffigan’s “The Skinny.” Other comedians who have been featured under the banner include Atsuko Okatsuka, Bill Burr, Chris Distefano, Ilana Glazer, Roy Wood Jr. and Matteo Lane. Titled “The Second Best Night of Your Life,” the hour will debut on April 26 on HBO and will be available to stream on Max.

The “Ted Lasso” star and “Shrinking” co-creator has long been a stand-up comic — his first Edinburgh Festival Fringe show debuted in 2010 — but none of his shows throughout the years have received a formal release. “The Second Best Night of Your Life” marked his first-ever stand-up tour.

Brett Goldstein, the two-time Emmy-winning star of Ted Lasso, has secured his first HBO stand-up comedy special. The hour-long comedy special titled “The Second Best Night of Your Life” will premiere sometime in April on HBO and will stream on Max, per Variety.

While he may be known now for his portrayal of soccer player-turned-assistant-coach for AFC Richmond, Roy Kent, Goldstein has a background in stand-up comedy. He debuted in his first Edinburgh Festival Fringe show back in 2010, but none of his stand-up outings have been turned into a television special, and “The Second Best Night of Your Life” was the actor/comedian’s first stand-up tour.

IndieWire can announce that the irreverent late-night comedy is launching an official call for submissions to bring Irl tales to the screen.

“It’s Florida, Man” hails from the team behind “Eastbound and Down” and fellow HBO series “The Righteous Gemstones.” Jeff Tomsic directs and executive produces, with Clark Filio producing.

An irreverent, low-budget anthology comedy, It’s Florida, Man has been proof of concept for HBO, and its impressive performance is expected to usher in more shows developed under that cost-effective comedy model to the network’s late-night.

Acknowledging on an investor call last year that hit drama series in general provide better return on investment than comedies, Casey Bloys, Chairman and CEO, HBO and Max Content, has been looking to revamp the genre, mixing up high-end, star-driven vehicles with off-beat, cheaper entires as the TV industry across the board has been trying to bring comedy costs down.

HBO is heading down to Florida for its latest oddball comedy series.

The network is launching It’s Florida, Man, an irreverent comedy series from Danny McBride’s Rough House Pictures and Range Studios, the production arm of the Eastbound and Down co-creator’s management company.

The series will launch on Friday October 18 at 11pm and the weekly series will feature six episodes in its first season.

It features ripped-from-the-headlines tales of the Sunshine State about mermaids, witches, extreme fantasies, feral bunnies, and alligators.

Each episode will feature a range of guest stars – there are more than two dozen across the series – including Anna Faris, Randall Park, Jake Johnson, Jon Gries, Sam Richardson, Ego Nwodim, Juliette Lewis and Simon Rex.

Created by Range Studios’ President of Non-Scripted TV Mark Herwick and Jeff Tomsic, who directed 2018 film Tag starring Ed Helms, Jon Hamm, Jeremy Renner, Hannibal Buress and Johnson. Tomsic will direct the series.

Hulu’s stand-up push continues with Ilana Glazer.

The Broad City alum will debut her second special, Human Magic, on the platform Dec. 20. The hour, which Rotten Science and Starrpix will produce and Jeff Tomsic is set to direct, was taped in early May in Toronto. It will air internationally on Disney+.

The new hour arrives a month after Jim Gaffigan’s November special, which will kick off Hulu’s monthly stand-up initiative, which it’s dubbed “Hularious.” The platform has also lined up hours from Bill Burr, Daily Show vet Roy Wood Jr. and, pending deals, Sebastian Maniscalco, Atsuko Okatsuka and Jessica Kirson. As part of the new effort, Hulu will also launch a curated collection of licensed specials, a mix of iconic hours and recent releases.

“The mantra is very much quality over quantity,” Hulu’s head of scripted content Jordan Helman said recently of the platform’s curated approach.

“Human Magic” was taped at the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre Centre in Toronto in May of this year during Glazer’s 48-city tour across the U.S. and Canada. This is their second stand-up special, following “Ilana Glazer: The Planet Is Burning,” which debuted on Amazon Prime Video in 2020 and saw them discuss their “thoughts on homophobes and Nazis, how crappy women’s razors are and what a joke the patriarchy is.”

Glazer is best known for “Broad City,” the Comedy Central series they co-created, co-showran and co-starred in with Abbi Jacobson. As the years go by, Dean (Zac Efron), Jt (Andrew Santino), and Wes (Jermaine Fowler) continue using “Ricky” as an excuse any time they want to skip, say, a family gathering or sneak out on a boys’ weekend. In such moments, they simply tell their significant others that Ricky really needs them right now.

That’s a solid enough setup for a film, a kind of coming-of-middle-age comedy in the vein of Jeff Tomsic’s Tag, where the characters’ commitment to a childhood tradition ends up jeopardizing their adult lives in the process. But where the antics of Tag’s characters effectively captured the stupid joy of acting like your younger self while hanging out with your oldest friends, Ricky Stanicky is stupid in a much less joyful way.

Comedian Bert Kreischer is sticking with Netflix, signing with the streamer to film two more stand-up comedy specials. This reps the fourth and fifth specials for Kreischer at Netflix, following “Razzle Dazzle” (2023), “Hey Big Boy” (2020), and “Secret Time” (2018).

The first of the two specials will be filmed by Kreischer at the Mahaffey Theater in St. Petersburg, Fla., on July 6. It’s a homecoming of sorts for Kreischer, who grew up in nearby Tampa (where he most recently sold out the Amalie Arena in February 2023). Kreischer’s Florida bonafides include attending Florida State University, where he was infamously dubbed the “Number One Partier in the Nation” by Rolling Stone in 1997.

Kreischer will exec produce the new specials along with LeeAnn Kreischer, Judi Marmel, Tony Hernandez, Jeff Tomsic and Jordan Levy. Tomsic is also the director, while Kreischer’s Berty Boy Prods. is behind the specials.

Exclusive: Netflix on Thursday morning unveiled Improv: 60 and Still Standing, a comedy special celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Improv comedy clubs, which will premiere globally on the streamer November 7th.

For six decades, The Improv has stood as a trailblazer in the realm of live comedy, serving as one of the primary platforms for both up-and-coming and veteran comedians. In honor of its anniversary, 10 globally acclaimed comedians will light up the stage in Hollywood for a special evening at The Improv, alongside never-before-seen archival footage from today’s household names.

The comics dropping in for short sets include Anjelah Johnson-Reyes, Bert Kreischer, Craig Robinson, Deon Cole, Fortune Feimster, Jeff Dunham, Kevin Nealon, Mark Normand, Jo Koy, and Whitney Cummings. Netflix announced on Monday that A Woman’s Prayer, the first-ever comedy special from actor and comedian Kountry Wayne, will premiere on the platform September 19th.

Filmed at the Warner Theatre in Washington, D.C., the special has the rising star comic meditate on everything from fatherhood to gender dynamics and faith. It’s directed by Jeff Tomsic, who in addition to the 2018 feature comedy Tag and shows like Idiotsitter, has helmed specials for everyone from Bert Kreischer to Steve Rannazzisi (Breaking Dad), Kurt Metzger (White Precious) and the late Norm Macdonald (the 3x Emmy-nominated Nothing Special).

Wayne, Tomsic, and Matthew Vaughan of Rotten Science served as executive producers.

Exclusive: We can tell you first that TriStar Pictures has acquired Jim and Brian Kehoe’s original action comedy, Joel in Accounting Must Die, which Entertainment 360 is producing.

This is the duo’s fourth original idea which has sold in the last 18 months.

The Kehoes wrote the hit Universal comedy Blockers, staring John Cena, Leslie Mann, Ike Barinholtz and Kathryn Newton. That Kay Cannon directed comedy debuted at SXSW in 2018 and went on to to open to $20.5M stateside, and final at $60.3M domestic, $94M WW.

The Kehoes’ original pitch Double Fault is in development at Paramount with Rebel Wilson attached to star with Oran Zegman (Honor Society) directing.

They also have two projects in development at Netflix; Unleashed with Dave Bautista attached to star and Jeff Tomsic attached to direct and Luck Key with Marlon Wayans attached to star.

Bert Kreischer: Razzle Dazzle is a stand-up comedy special on Netflix directed by Jeff Tomsic and starring the iconic Bert Kreischer.

He introduces himself to the audience with a pint in his hand and… with his shirt on, though it barely lasts three seconds. Bert Kreischer has the audience eating out of his hand from the get-go, with his jokes about underwear that snags on things and his jokes about… bumpkins.

Sophisticated? Maybe not, but Mr. Kreischer dazzles his audience, who get feverishly fired up by his jokes, which are accompanied by his wild gesticulations and his… let’s say, unathletic… physique.

Bert Kreischer is an American stand-up comedian and television host.

Less than a minute into Bert Kreischer’s latest special, he rips his shirt off.

The move is met with thunderous applause in Omaha’s Orpheum Theater, where he shot the hour that’s dropping globally March 14 — though you get the sense that that’s the response wherever Kreischer goes. After all, the married dad of two has been performing bare-chested for as long as he can remember. It’s not so much a gimmick, he says, as it is the way he feels most at ease. “It’s so my comfort zone,” he explains over the phone.

FX is stepping into the standup comedy ring, with comedy specials from Kate Berlant and Byron Bowers to premiere exclusively on Hulu on Sept. 15, the network announced.

“Kate Berlant: Cinnamon in the Wind” serves as the comedian’s first live solo standup special. Set in an intimate space, the “A League of Their Own” star takes on not only the audience, but also a mirrored reflection of herself in her absurdist show. As she challenges the crowd’s expectations of her comedy, Berlant analyzes her own need to perform, as well as her connection to the room.

Bo Burnham directed the special, which was filmed in 2019. He’s also attached as an executive producer alongside recent Emmy winner Jerrod Carmichael (“Rothaniel”), Chris Storer (“The Bear”) and Jeff Tomsic. “Kate Berlant: Cinnamon in the Wind” is produced by Rotten Science.

Exclusive: Netflix has Dave Bautista circling to star in Unleashed, with Tag‘s Jeff Tomsic attached to direct a script by Blockers scribes Jim & Brian Kehoe.

Bautista is in talks to star and produce with his partner Jonathan Meisner alongside Good Fear’s Chris Bender and Jake Weiner. He’ll play a police officer who’s best friends with a canine partner that can sniff out any crime. When Boomer dies on the job, the cop pledges no more pooch partners, until he is teamed with Zeus. Bautista will next be seen on Netflix in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, which premieres next month at TIFF, and he wrapped Knock at the Cabin for Universal and is shooting Dune 2 for Warner Bros.

The spirit of “Black Panther” and Chadwick Boseman still lives on. The Television Academy gave one last honor to the late actor’s greatness with an Emmy nomination Tuesday morning.

With the announcement of the Primetime Emmy Awards nominations, Boseman received a posthumous nom for outstanding character voice-over for his famous role of T’Challa in the animated series “What If…?” from Disney+ and Marvel Studios.

Boseman also received a posthumous Oscar nomination for his performance in George C. Wolfe’s “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” Anthony Hopkins ultimately won that year for his work in “The Father.”

Standup comedian Bert Kreischer is set to star in and executive produce “Cabin,” a new Netflix improv comedy series based on Martin Petit’s “Les Pecheurs,” TheWrap has learned exclusively.

Additionally, Kreischer has set his second comedy special for the streaming service, “Bert Kreischer: Hey Big Boy.” The standup event, which is directed by Jeff Tomsic and produced by Jax, will launch March 17.

Exclusive: Peter Safran’s The Safran Company has finalized a first-look producing deal at Warner Bros and has named Wrigley Pictures chief and Rampage producer John Rickard as president of production.

The deal brings together two esteemed blockbuster producers on the Burbank lot: Safran, who has been behind the $1.9 billion-grossing success of New Line’s Conjuring franchise and the highest-grossing DC movie of all time in Aquaman ($1.15B), and Rickard, who in addition to delivering such hits as the $428M-grossing Dwayne Johnson vehicle Rampage was also a producer on New Line’s $320M-plus-grossing Horrible Bosses series. Levi will play a super spy in the vein of Jason Bourne and Ethan Hunt who gets in a jam on an impossible mission and can only rely on the help of his moronic college friends who happen to be with him to work it out.

There is not a release date yet, but they want to pump this film out before Levi gets busy making the Shazam! sequel, so they’d better get on it! This sounds like a super funny movie, and I will be excited to see who they cast as his moronic friends.

Exclusive: New Line Cinema is negotiating with Zachary Levi to star in Spy Guys, and it has just set Jeff Tomsic to direct the script by Adam Sztykiel. That puts the action comedy on a fast track as the aim here is to get the movie made before Levi reprises in the Shazam! sequel, which New Line is also percolating.

Tomsic made his directorial debut last year on the New Line comedy Tag, and cut his teeth on the Comedy Central series Broad City and Idiotsitter, on which he is executive producer. Sztykiel’s credits include Rampage and Due Date.
