Interview: Writer-Director Mike Pappa Talks About His Time Travel Short, Frankie
A couple of months back, I brought you information about the short Frankie. Written and directed by artist, animator, and game developer Mike Pappa, the short is making the rounds at film fests and the like. Full disclosure: Mike and I are friends and we've worked together in the past. Still, I'm happy to say Frankie is some of the most interesting work he's done since we met seven years ago. Anyway, with all of that in mind, I decided to ask Mike a bit about the production of one of the key scenes in the film, what he calls the "Test 22" sequence. Twitch: First off, tell us how Frankie came about? Mike Pappa: I come from an animation background, but have always...

Check Out the Trailer For the Time-Bending Short Frankie
Full disclosure: writer-director-vfx artist Mike Pappa and I have been friends for a while now. But that doesn't change the fact that the recently-released trailer for his short Frankie looks intriguing as hell. He's been toiling away at the project for a little while now, and I've been anxious to see the result. Here's the official synopsis for the NJ-shot sci-fi thriller: "When a watch repair man acquires an antique pocket watch that can control time, he decides to use it to achieve his dreams. His plans soon become sinister when he learns he isn't the only one with the knowledge of the pocket watch." Mike and I previously worked at a NY-based game developer where he was the art director. Over the years he's...

Horror goes to new extremes in "Gut" - An interview with director Elias
Go back and think of the horror film's of David Cronenberg. Think back to films like Shivers, Rabid, Videodrome, etc. Think back to what is known as the body horror sub-genre that David Cronenberg originated. Think of how themes in this sub-genre involve people's fears of the body. Think of how psychological is juxtaposed against the physical. All of this should give you an idea of what you are in store for in director Elias's feature length directorial debut of "Gut". Gut is a psychological horror thriller in which something is missing in Tom's (Jason Vail) life. His marriage has lost its spark. His job is suffocating him. His childhood best friend Dan still clings to the past. Every day he goes through the motions. Tom's becoming increasingly detached from those around him. Dan has the solution... something Tom's got to see to believe... tonight. What Dan (Nicholas Wilder) shows him,...
