Telemundo has acquired the rights to adapt Atresmedia’s Spanish drama “Velvet.”

The network is set to adapt “Velvet,” which explored love, ambition and family dynamics within a 1950s Spanish fashion house, into a modern-day series, this time bringing the action to New York City. With production taking place at Telemundo Studios in Miami, the new series is slated to debut in 2025.

By setting the TV series in the modern era, Telemundo hopes to “revive this classic tale into a contemporary drama series, filled with unforgettable characters and plots that define great love stories,” per the official release.

The second season of HBO Max’s “30 Coins” will arrive this year, and, judging by the brand new Spanish trailer unveiled by HBO Max today, it’s bringing Hell with it.

The trailer comes with the announcement that “30 Coins” season two will arrive in October, and the series creator confirmed via Twitter that it’s Fall debut includes the US.

Directed and co-written by acclaimed horror master Álex de la Iglesia (The Day of the Beast, Witching & Bitching, The Last Circus), HBO Max‘s “30 Coins” takes viewers into a world where nothing is as it seems, and nobody can be trusted. De la Iglesia co-writes the series with Jorge Guerricaechevarria.

Paul Giamatti has joined the cast of 30 Coins, the Spanish mystery horror series that premiered on HBO Max in 2020 and was renewed for a second season in February. The eight-part Season 2 is now in production in Spain, Italy, the U.S., France and the UK, with a 2023 premiere date planned on HBO Max worldwide and on HBO in the U.S.

The series, which hails from Álex de la Iglesia who directs and co-writes with Jorge Guerricaechevarría, centers on Father Vergara, an exorcist, boxer and ex-convict, who is exiled by the church to a remote town in Spain. “Sexy Beast” is back, and it’s part of a slate of six international scripted originals heading to Paramount Plus, Variety can reveal.

The long-simmering “Sexy Beast” prequel series has evidently been resuscitated for the streamer after being scrapped for Paramount Network in 2020.

The U.K.-originated show, based on the cult classic film of the same name, centers on the characters of Gal Dove and Don Logan as they descend into London’s criminal underbelly during the volatile 1990s.

Paramount Plus describes the series as “a love story between two men — à la Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.” It’s produced by Chapter One and Vis, with showrunner Michael Caleo (“The Sopranos”) attached.

Also heading to Paramount Plus out of the U.K. is an adaptation of the Amor Towles novel “A Gentleman in Moscow,” written by “All Creatures Great and Small” scribe Ben Vanstone.

Appropriately enough given the show’s enigmatic nature, the slow drip of information about a second season of Spanish genre legend Alex de la Iglesia’s occult horror series “30 Coins” has, for the most part, been cryptic at best. That tradition continued Friday, after HBO Max confirmed the second season, when “Money Heist’s” Najwa Nimri, one of Spain’s biggest film and TV stars, teased her participation in the upcoming season.

Apart from the show’s three leads – Eduard Fernández as Father Vergara, Megan Montaner as veterinarian-turned-demon-hunter Elena and Miguel Ángel Silvestre as Mayor Paco – no other casting has yet been confirmed, but Nimri posted an Instagram story which included part of the Season 2 teaser and the phrase: “We start a new adventure,” while also tweeting #30Monedas – the show’s Spanish-language title.

HBO Max has commissioned a second season of Álex de Iglesia and Jorge Guerricaechevarría’s mystery horror 30 Coins.

Principal photography will begin later this month on the eight-parter, which will air next year.

The series will pick up from the end of season one, which dropped on the platform in late 2020. Most of the people of Pedraza have lost their minds, confined to a psychiatric hospital. Elena lies in a Madrid hospital bed in a coma; Paco, shattered by remorse, tries to take care of her. As horror grows around them, the group of heroes must face a new enemy.

“If the first season was the gathering of the storm clouds, the second will be the maelstrom preceding an epic storm,” said de la Iglesia.

Brazilian hit comedy troupe Porta Dos Fundos, renowned for its irreverent take on the life of Christ in their annual Christmas Specials, is making its first animated special exclusively for streamer Paramount Plus.

The new Paramount Plus Original, titled “Mean Boys,” is written by troupe co-founder Fábio Porchat and co-produced by Vis Americas and Brazilian animation studio, Estricnina.

In a large coup for its ambitions in Latin America and beyond, ViacomCBS International Studios (Vis) unveiled Wednesday an exclusive deal with Argentina’s Juan José Campanella, writer-director of the Academy Award winning “The Secret in Their Eyes.”

The agreement follows smartly on production of a first season of “The Envoys” (“Los Enviados”), a six-part action thriller series starring Luis Gerardo Méndez, Miguel Ángel Silvestre, and Irene Azuela.

Turning on two Vatican envoys dispatched to a Mexican village to discover the truth behind a priest’s alleged miracle healing, “The Envoys” was early fruit of a first-look deal signed in between Vis and Campanella’s Buenos Aires-based production company, 100 Bares Productions. The first season will premiere later this year on ViacomCBS’ premium streaming service Paramount Plus in Latin America. Season two of “The Envoys” is currently in development under Campanella.

The rallying cries of the Italian anti-fascist song “Bella ciao” from The Professor’s (Álvaro Morte) gang of endearing city-named criminals will soon no longer be heard from the halls of the Bank of Spain. Álex Pina’s “Money Heist,” also known as “La Casa de Papel,” one of Netflix’s most-streamed Spanish-language shows, will reach its conclusion in two parts by the end of this year.

But while the series will come to an end, “it isn’t the end of the robbery at the Bank of Spain,” executive producer and director Jesús Colmenar said during the Television Critics Assn. press tour panel for the show on Aug. 19.

Colmenar, who was joined by Morte and Úrsula Corberó, discussed the “biggest and most thrilling” season, with Colmenar noting, “We have put the final stops in there.”

One important stop came in the fourth season, when fan-favorite character Nairobi (Alba Flores) was killed off.

In this batch of episodes, which the streamer is calling “La Casa de Papel (Money Heist) Part 5, Volume 1,” the gang faces one of its darkest moments after losing one of their own. The Professor (Álvaro Morte) has been captured by inspector Sierra (Najwa Nimri) and, for the first time, doesn’t have an escape plan. Netflix Spain has dropped a trailer for the highly anticipated second season of its high-octane Spanish thriller series “Sky Rojo,” coming to the platform worldwide on July 23.

Shifting from the Spanish noir aesthetics of “Money Heist,” “Sky Rojo” opts for a brightly colored, neon palette to mix several genres into something its creators Álex Pina and Esther Martínez have dubbed “Latin Pulp.” In another shift, the duo has also cut each of the season’s eight episodes to a punchy 25-minute runtime.

In “Sky Rojo” season one, three exotic dancers are forced into prostitution after becoming victims of a human trafficking scheme. After a confrontation with club-owner-turned-pimp Romeo turned violent, the three broke from their chains of bondage and fled across the Spanish Canary Island of Tenerife.
