After Decades in Development Hell, 'Neuromancer' Adaptation Takes a Giant Leap Forward at Apple TV+
Image
Over forty years after its source material was first published, Neuromanceris finally coming online. Apple TV+ announced that the long-awaited cyberpunk science fiction adaptation has entered production in a new teaser clip. No release date for the series has yet been announced. The series will be an adaptation of William Gibson's seminal 1984 novel, which essentially birthed the entire cyberpunk genre. Many attempts at adapting the novel for the screen have been made, but Apple, whose Macintosh personal computer was likewise first released in 1984, will be the first one to successfully crack the code.

In the teaser, a bar slowly comes to life, its lights and arcade machines switching on, before a neon sign buzzes to life, revealing that the bar is the Chatsubo, the Chiba City lounge that is a key location in the novel. It then announces that the series, which was first greenlit in early 2024, is now in production.

Linda Hamilton Talks About Failing Sarah Connor in 'Terminator: Dark Fate'
Image
Linda Hamilton, the actor best known for playing Sarah Connor in the Terminator franchise, has talked about Terminator: Dark Fate, the controversial sequel that saw her reprise the iconic action character for the first time in 28 years. Dark Fate was not exactly well-received by fans, and it bombed at the box office. Six years later, Hamilton candidly offers her opinion on the sequel. She had addressed the "John Connor arc" in the past, which is one of the reasons the film had a negative response. But now Hamilton has said that the return of her character deserved stronger writing.

The actor spoke to Comic Book during the promotion of Resident Alien Season 4, the latest entry in the Syfy comedy sci-fi series. Hamilton reflected on her experience in the sequel directed by Tim Miller (Deadpool), and co-starring Arnold Schwarzenegger:

"There were some really significant, maybe… emotional moments in the last...

Mark Cuban Turned Down Opportunity To Be Considered As Kamala Harris’ Running Mate: ‘She Would Have Fired Me In 6 Days!’
Image
Tech billionaire Mark Cuban has revealed that he had the opportunity to be considered for Kamala Harris’ vice presidential position in the 2024 presidential campaign but chose not to accept.

Cuban had publicly endorsed Harris ahead of the 2024 election. In a new interview with Tim Miller, host of the Bulwark podcast, Cuban shared that he had been invited to submit himself as a candidate for Harris’ running mate.

Miller prompted Cuban, “There was some green-room gossip at MSNBC. Somebody I kind of trust said that they asked you to send in VP vetting papers, and you said, ‘No, the list would be too long.’ Is that true?”

Cuban confirmed the rumor. “The second part of my response was, ‘I’m not very good as a number-two person,'” he said. “The last thing we need is me telling Kamala, the president, ‘No, that’s a bad idea.’ I’m not really...

Terminator: Dark Fate was ‘kind of underwritten’, Linda Hamilton says
Linda Hamilton has admitted Terminator: Dark Fate was “kind of underwritten”.The 68-year-old actress reprised her role as Sarah Connor in the controversial 2019 action blockbuster, though has now conceded director Tim Miller could have used a little longer to bring out the “humanity” of the story.Speaking with ComicBook.com, she said: “There were some really significant, maybe … emotional moments in the last one that I wish we had lingered over a little bit more.“It was kind of underwritten, and I think Tim didn’t feel that some of it was structured properly … I just wish it had slowed down a tiny bit and presented our fans with just a few more moments of humanity.”Reflecting on Sarah Connor and the impact she has had on pop culture, Hamilton admitted she was “surprised” by the number of people who were inspired by the action heroine, and described the character as...

Arnold Schwarzenegger Named The Worst Terminator Movie (And His Choice Isn't Surprising)
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

One could argue that if someone was to make a Mount Rushmore of beloved science fiction movies, director James Cameron's 1984 classic smash hit "The Terminator" should be on it. Heck, there are quite a few people who would argue that "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" should be on it as well. The films helped define Arnold Schwarzenegger's career, cementing him as an all-time great action star. It's a franchise that includes some of the greatest cinematic sci-fi works ever produced, but it also includes some not-so-great entries. But which one does Schwarzenegger like the least?

On a recent episode of "Watch What Happens Live" with host Andy Cohen, an audience member asked Schwarzenegger at one point which of the "Terminator" movies he felt was the worst. The former governor of California didn't sit on the fence or pretend like he enjoyed them all.

Why Mark Cuban Turned Down Offer to Submit to Be Kamala Harris’ Running Mate in 2024 Presidential Campaign
Image
Mark Cuban is revealing why he turned down an offer to submit himself for consideration to become Kamala Harris’ running mate in her 2024 presidential campaign.

The Shark Tank star made a recent appearance on The Bulwark podcast, where host Tim Miller told him, “Somebody I kind of trust said that they asked you to send in VP vetting papers and you said, ‘No, the list would be too long.’ Is that true?”

Cuban confirmed the rumors but admitted there’s another reason he opted out of submitting himself to be Harris’ vice president.

“The second part of that, my response was I’m not very good as the number two person,” the billionaire and outspoken supporter of the Harris campaign said. “And so if the last thing we need is me telling Kamala, you know, the president that, ‘No, that’s a dumb idea.’ Right? And I’m not real...

Mark Cuban Reveals He Was Approached By Kamala Harris As Potential VP Pick: “I’m Not Very Good As The No. 2 Person”
Image
In an alternate timeline, billionaire and investor Mark Cuban could have been Kamala Harris’ vice presidential pick.

However, the Shark Tank star said he turned down an offer from the Democratic presidential candidate’s campaign for vetting papers, adding that he wouldn’t be a great collaborator as the second-in-command.

“I’m not very good as the No. 2 person. And so, the last thing we need is me telling Kamala, you know, the president, that, ‘No, that’s a dumb idea,’ right? And I’m not real good at the shaking hands and kissing babies,” he told The Bulwark host Tim Miller.

When theorizing how that may or may not have changed the outcome of the 2024 presidential election, Cuban responded that it “obviously” would have given the Democratic ticket a different vibe, given the contrast he strikes with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

“My personality is completely different than Tim’s.

How ‘Love, Death and Robots’ Creator Tim Miller Got David Fincher to Direct a Wild Red Hot Chili Peppers Music Video
Image
“Love, Death & Robots” has returned.

The critically acclaimed, Emmy-winning animated anthology, created by “Deadpool” director Tim Miller, is back for the first time since 2022. And this year’s crop of stories, which includes “Spider Rose” (a follow-up to the last cycle’s “Swarm”), a bonkers live-action installment from Miller (“Golgotha”) and a World War II-set monster mash (“How Zeke Got Religion”). There is also an entry where sentient appliances fight back against their human oppressors.

Miller is known for selecting the stories for adaptation himself.

“I read a lot and for years, so I have a big library of things that I think are interesting and would make good shorts that I’ve pulled and set aside,” Miller explained. “And every season, you’re trying to curate something that has a little bit for everybody. It can’t just be my taste. Because if it was, it would be boring.

Mark Cuban Turned Down the Offer When Asked to Submit to be Kamala Harris’ Vice President in 2024 Presidential Election: ‘I’m Not Very Good as the Number Two Person’
Image
During a recent appearance on “The Bulwark” podcast, Mark Cuban revealed he was invited to submit himself for consideration to become former Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in the 2024 presidential election. However, the “Shark Tank” star, an outward supporter of the Harris campaign, turned the offer down.

Interviewer Tim Miller opened the segment by prefacing that he had heard rumors at MSNBC that Cuban was tapped to join Harris on the campaign trail.

“There was some green room gossip at MSNBC,” Miller said. “I wouldn’t tell you this if it wasn’t pretty good. Somebody I kind of trust said that they asked you to send in VP vetting papers and you said, ‘No, the list would be too long.’ Is that true?”

Cuban confirmed the rumors to be true and elaborated on his decision to bow out of the race.

'Thunderbolts*' Overtakes the $200 Million Terminator Sequel That Arnold Schwarzenegger Said “Sucked”
Image
Released in the summer of 2009, only a year after the culture-altering success of The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation made headlines for being one of the most expensive independent productions of all time. The sequel film starred Christian Bale in the role of John Connor, and boldly became the franchise's first installment not to feature Arnold Schwarzenegger in the titular role. Directed by McG, Terminator Salvation underperformed at the box office, shutting down all possibility of a sequel. It made just over $370 million at the worldwide box office, and has now been overtaken by another big-budget underperformer, Marvel's Thunderbolts*.

Produced on a reported budget of $180 million, Thunderbolts* is just about to conclude its theatrical run. The superhero movie had a promising debut some weeks ago, but will likely fall short of the $200 million mark domestically and the $400 million mark worldwide. Thunderbolts* is also poised to fall short of its MCU predecessor,...

Terry Moran Defends His Stephen Miller ‘World-Class Hater’ Post as ‘Accurate and True’
Image
Terry Moran continued to defend his decision to label President Donald Trump’s deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller a “world-class hater” even after ABC News cut ties with the veteran reporter and anchor.

In an interview with The Bulwark’s Tim Miller on Monday, Moran said the post was not a “drunk tweet” but rather “something that was in my heart and mind.”

“There is no Mount Olympus of objectivity where a Mandarin class of wise people have no feelings about their society. We’re all in this together,” he noted. “What you have to be is fair and accurate, and I would refer to the interview with the president that I did, or a lot of my work. And I would also say that this, while very hot, is an observation, a description that was accurate and true.”

Moran further described himself as a “Hubert Humphrey Democrat.”

It sounds like Joe Abercrombie's Best Served Cold movie is in trouble
Image
The First Law author Joe Abercrombie has been in the news a lot lately, and for good reason. Last month, Abercrombie released his new book The Devils, kicking off the start of a new series set in an alternate history Europe where a group of monsters embarks on a dangerous mission at the behest of a teenage pope. The book is a raucous good time and has resonated with readers, debuting at #1 on the Sunday Times bestseller list and #5 on the New York Times bestseller list. On top of that, James Cameron has signed a deal with Abercrombie to develop The Devils as a movie; they will co-author the script together.

Suffice to say, Abercrombie is having something of a moment right now. But for all this excitement about The Devils, there's another film project he had in the hopper which sounds like it may not pan out: Best Served Cold,...

‘Lilo & Stitch’ Just Surfed Past Ryan Reynolds’ Career-Saving $781 Million Superhero Blockbuster
Image
In just 20 days of release, Disney's Lilo & Stitch remake is set to become one of the 100 highest-grossing blockbusters in global box office history. This weekend, the movie should comfortably pass the $850 million mark at the worldwide box office, with an outside chance of hitting the $900 million mark. Lilo & Stitch is set to become the year's first Hollywood movie to break past the coveted $1 billion mark, an achievement that has eluded Disney since last year's Moana 2. The film's running global haul now stands at $807 million, making it the second-biggest Hollywood hit of the year, behind A Minecraft Movie.

In passing the $800 million milestone, Lilo & Stitch overtook a host of past blockbusters, such as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Mission: Impossible - Fallout, and the original Deadpool. Released in 2016, the clutter-breaking superhero movie made over $780 million worldwide against a reported budget of $50 million. It...

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Biggest ‘Terminator’ Flop Is a Hit on Taylor Sheridan’s Streaming Home After 6 Years
Image
It’s the epitome of crossover-verse in the real sense! Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Terminator, being one of the most popular franchises in the history of Hollywood, was never really in need of getting a boost in its popularity. Yet, when the latest Terminator dropped in the theaters in 2019, the sixth film in the series, it caused the online chatter for all the wrong reasons.

Sadly, after its dismal opening weekend, Terminator: Dark Fate was labeled as a box office flop. However, almost six years after its theatrical release, Schwarzenegger’s biggest Terminator bomb has found success in a new home. The Tim Miller-directed Terminator recently got a second lease of life on a streaming service.

Terminator: Dark Fate rewrote its fate in Taylor Sheridan’s streaming home

A film’s fate more or less gets sealed when it bombs at the box office. But not for Arnold Schwarzenegger starrer Terminator: Dark Fate.

James Cameron adapting Joe Abercrombie's The Devils heralds a shift in fantasy movies
Image
This week, we learned that James Cameron, the blockbuster filmmaker behind such hits as Titanic, The Terminator, Aliens, and the Avatar movies, has purchased the rights to make a movie based on Joe Abercrombie's latest grimdark fantasy novel, The Devils. Abercrombie and Cameron will co-write the script for the film together, under Cameron's Lighstorm banner.

"I've loved Joe's writing for years, cherishing each new read, throughout the epic cycle of the First Law books, especially Best Served Cold (Love It!) and the Age of Madness trilogy," Cameron said in a statement. "But the freshness of the world and the characters in The Devils finally got me off my butt to buy one of his books and partner with him to bring it to the screen. I'm looking forward to the writing process with him, though I'm certain this adaptation will practically write itself because Joe writes very visually, almost in scenes,...

James Cameron Dives into Dark Fantasy with ‘The Devils’ After ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’
Image
James Cameron is stepping away from the vibrant world of Pandora for his next big project. The acclaimed director, known for blockbusters like ‘Titanic’ and ‘The Terminator’, is set to tackle a chilling new venture. He’s adapting ‘The Devils’, a novel by Joe Abercrombie, into a film that promises a grim and thrilling ride. This move comes right after he wraps up ‘Avatar: Fire and Ash’, the third chapter in his sci-fi saga.

‘The Devils’ is a dark fantasy tale set in an alternate medieval Europe. It follows a ragtag group of monsters, criminals, and outcasts tasked with saving the continent from flesh-eating elves. Think of it as a gritty, gothic version of ‘Suicide Squad’, blending horror with sharp wit. The story centers on Brother Diaz, a priest expecting a holy mission, only to find himself leading a crew of murderers and magical misfits. Their quest demands brutal choices,...

‘Home Alone meets Alien’ X-Men Movie Was Canceled Due to the Disney-Fox Merger
Image
We do agree with Deadpool director Tim Miller when he said that Marvel has a superweapon: the X-Men. Although character rights and copyright issues had caused trouble for both franchises, the road for Marvel and the X-Men is now clearer than before.

Right before Disney acquired Fox (which had several entities within), there was a potential plan by Tim Miller to create an X-Men movie, which was an adaptation of a 1980 comic book. As Miller describes it, the film would have been equal to “Home Alone meets Alien” with a little X-Men on the side!

The Home Alone–Alien-x-Men movie that didn’t happen

One thing that we can say for certain is that Tim Miller really knows how to put things in a different perspective. That is how he pitched the concept of his unfinished film, which would have happened if not for the Disney-Fox merger.

Tim Miller at an event for Deadpool (2016)
Tim Miller may not have pulled a lot of bank for the first Deadpool movie, but he is more than willing to return to Marvel, saying if he ever gets the chance, he wants to get behind the camera for an X-Men movie.

Tim Miller recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to share his interest in helping bring the X-Men fully into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “I think that Marvel has this secret weapon they haven’t been able to unveil yet, which is the whole X-Men universe — which is what got me into comics. The X-Men are my favorite characters. I wrote [Marvel boss] Kevin Feige, and I’m like, ‘If there was ever anything that you would let me do in the Marvel Universe, please, the X-Men would be it.’ I had an X-Men movie in development at Fox when the merger happened, which would have been awesome.

Original 'Deadpool' Director Reveals His 'X-Men' Adaptation Idea and It Sounds Awesome
Image
Tim Miller, the director of 2016's first Deadpool film, believes Marvel is yet to reveal its strongest secret weapon. Although the studio is carefully planning the next MCU phase, Miller says that the Marvel IP could benefit from a future adaptation of the X-Men universe. He also used the opportunity to reveal his past plans to develop an X-Men movie. But then, the merger happened.

Miller's work in the industry has had mixed results. After Deadpool, he directed 2019's Terminator Dark Fate, the last film in the Terminator series before franchise owners decided it was time to take a break. After this, Miller took on the role of executive producer of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, and started working on Netflix's series Love, Death & Robots.

The Deadpool director is currently promoting his participation in the fourth volume of the animated series. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, he...

Deadpool Director Still Hopes to Make X-Men Movie 6 Years After Scrapped 'Home Alone Meets Alien' Film

Deadpool director Tim Miller has revealed that he personally asked Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige to direct an X-Men movie in the MCU. Miller brought the Merc with a Mouth back to the big screen for 2016's Deadpool — but Fox owned the rights to the X-Men at the time.

The filmmaker revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that he reached out to Feige about the X-Men when Disney acquired 21st Century Fox in March 2019 for $71.3 billion. As part of the acquisition, Disney gained the film rights back for the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018)
Before movies like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Wild Robot, and Flow broke the animation mold established by studios like Pixar, Dreamworks, and Illumination, Tim Miller and Jennifer Yuh Nelson‘s Love, Death + Robots has been taking risks for the past several years. The animated anthology-style series features wildly talented creators from across the globe, strutting their stuff and pushing the boundaries of animation in bite-sized portions of science fiction, action, romance, comedy, and more. The latest volume of the series, Love, Death + Robots Vol. 4, is no exception to the anthology’s ability to bring audiences to uncharted territory and tell thought-provoking stories.

Leading up to the release of Love, Death + Robots Vol. 4, we sat down with series creators Tim Miller, Jennifer Yuh Nelson, and Emmy-winning animator Robert Valley (400 Boys) to discuss the latest collection of shorts for Netflix’s mind-bending animation onslaught.

During our time together, Tim and Jennifer...

Tim Miller Hopes to Direct an X-Men Movie: “It’s Marvel’s Secret Weapon”
Image
It’s been nearly 10 years since Tim Miller stood on the stage at San Diego Comic-Con and revealed the first trailer for Deadpool, which had fans begging the filmmakers to play it a second time and kicked off a hugely successful franchise.

Now the director — who has kept busy making two acclaimed adult animated series, Netflix’s Love Death + Robots and Prime Video’s Secret Level — is ready to return to the superhero arena.

While discussing the new season of his Netflix series, The Hollywood Reporter asked Miller about what he would do to help revive the superhero game on this anniversary of Deadpool shaking up the genre.

“I think that the Marvel has this secret weapon they haven’t been able to unveil yet, which is the whole X-Men universe — which is what got me into comics,” Miller said. “The X-Men are my favorite characters. I wrote [Marvel boss] Kevin Feige,...

Tim Miller Discusses ‘Love Death + Robots’ Season 4 Episodes, Show’s Future
Image
Netflix’s acclaimed adult animated series Love Death + Robots has dropped its long-awaited fourth season, which includes 10 striking fever dream episodes that run the gambit of storytelling — from a cat battling Satan, to naked gladiators riding dinosaurs, to a dolphin messiah.

Once again, the show has served up visions inspired by an array of short stories that are unlike anything else on TV (trailer below). And once again, there are controversies, with the show’s passionate fandom debating certain aspects (such as a character voiced by Mr. Beast, and executive producer and director David Fincher’s short which takes a Red Hot Chili Peppers’ performance and recreates it using thousands of puppets).

Below, creator and director Tim Miller (Deadpool) discusses the new season, several of the episodes and the show’s future (if you haven’t yet watched season four, better to do that first). The show’s success...

Tim Miller looks back on his Heavy Metal reboot pitch evolving into Love + Death & Robots
David Fincher
For more than a decade, filmmakers David Fincher and Tim Miller tried to push a reboot of the 1981 animated science fiction film Heavy Metal through development hell – but even though their endeavor was supported by the likes of James Cameron, Guillermo del Toro, Zack Snyder, Kevin Eastman, and Gore Verbinski, all of whom were said to be on board to contribute segments to the anthology film at one point or another, they just couldn’t get the movie into production. So they shifted gears, dropped the Heavy Metal brand name, and created the animated anthology series Love, Death & Robots for the Netflix streaming service. Miller recently sat down for an interview with JoBlo’s own Steve Seigh, and during their conversation, he took a moment to look back at the Heavy Metal roots of Love, Death & Robots.

The fourth season, or volume, of Love, Death & Robots premiered on Netflix on May 15th.

Brett Goldstein Gave Voice to a ‘Toilet’ in Netflix’s Most Unique Series
Image
Actor-comedian-writer Brett Goldstein is widely known for his work as Roy Kent on Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso. Goldstein’s performance as Roy Kent impressed the critics and audience so much that he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for the first two seasons of the show.

Goldstein, alongside Jason Segel and Bill Lawrence, also serves as the co-creator of one of the most beloved Apple TV+ shows, Shrinking. He is now working on reprising his role as Roy Kent for Ted Lasso season four. But ahead of Ted Lasso season four, Brett Goldstein’s contribution to a Netflix series that is unique on its own needs to be acknowledged.

Brett Goldstein’s iconic voice-over role in Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots

’Netflix’s Answer to ‘Yellowstone’ Falls Off of Streaming Charts as Fans Await Season 2 News
Image
It’s now been over a month since the first season of Ransom Canyon premiered in its entirety on Netflix. The series spent the better part of the last month in the Netflix top 10, but fans have still not been gifted the Season 2 renewal that they’ve been waiting for. Enough time has now passed that Ransom Canyon has slipped out of the Netflix top 10. Despite cast members giving updates on what they’d like to see in a second season, Netflix has stayed eerily quiet on the Ransom Canyon renewal front. The show, which has been dubbed as Netflix’s version of Yellowstone, is a romance-fueled family drama following three intersecting ranching families. It’s set against the sweeping tundras and beautiful landscapes of Texas Hill Country.

Starring in the lead role of Staten Kirkland in Ransom Canyon is Josh Duhamel. Duhamel is also known for his role as...

Tim Miller’s Anthology Series Misses Netflix Top 5 Despite Perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes Score on New Season
Image
Netflix has finally released its viewership data from the week of 5/12-5/18, and there is one shocking member of the list that didn’t land as high as many were expecting. Love, Death & Robots Season 4 premiered on Netflix on Thursday, May 15, and although the show earned a perfect 100% rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, it wasn’t able to crack the top five for the streamer last week. It finished at #7, ahead of Ms. Rachel, Bet, and WWE Monday Night Raw, but it needed to beat You and Bad Thoughts to make it into the top five. The series was written and created for television by Tim Miller, who is also known for his work directing the first Deadpool movie starring Ryan Reynolds. It earned 2.9 million views last week.

Occupying the #4 spot on Netflix last week was The Four Seasons, the new comedy/drama series starring Tina Fey, Steve Carell,...

Filmmaker David Fincher on Making Love, Death + Robots Season 4
Image
Fearless anthology series Love, Death + Robots returns with a unique blend of styles, stories, and heroes you didn’t know you needed — from scheming felines to a traumatized toilet. “I try and get a mix of horror, sci-fi, and fantasy,” says creator and executive producer Tim Miller. “And we work with some really fucking fantastic artists.” Miller is a voracious reader, and the source material for the series is largely short stories he has enjoyed over decades, though Volume 4 has a first: a concert film … from none other than David Fincher.

Fincher may now be best known for films such as Fight Club and The Killer, but he first rose to prominence directing music videos. The episode “Can’t Stop” calls on a long-cherished idea of animating a band as puppets; in this case, the Red Hot Chili Peppers. “This was a chance to exercise some old muscles,...

David Fincher's Underrated Sci-Fi Anthology Show Returns With Underwhelming Numbers Despite 100% Rt Score
Image
David Fincher has been behind multiple successful projects, including 1995's Seven and 1999's Fight Club. In 2019, he joined forces with Deadpool director Tim Miller for a Netflix reboot of the 1981 animated science fiction film Heavy Metal titled Love, Death & Robots.

The adult animated anthology has received acclaim from the critics, but it generally fell under the radar of the audience. As the series has just added a new season, subtitled "Volume IV," the show had a major difference in the reviews received from the critics and the audience. The highly underrated sci-fi show also didn't impress with its viewership numbers, as Tudum revealsLove, Death & Robots: Volume 4 debuted in seventh place on the Top 10.

The new season premiered on May 15 after a three-year break, as the previous entry had premiered on May 20, 2022. For the week between May 12 and 18, Love, Death & Robots: Volume IV debuted with only 2.9 million views and 5.9 million hours viewed.

‘Love Death & Robots’ Season 4: One of the Best Episodes Was Inspired by ‘Half-Life’ Writer’s 40 Year Old Story
Image
Love, Death & Robots is known for giving audiences masterpieces. Following a similar format to Black Mirror, the series releases individual storylines for each episode and brings something new every single time. In addition to having interesting stories and characters, the series is also known for its animation, which is of the highest quality in the medium and rivals masterpieces like Arcane and the Spider-Verse films.

The recently released fourth season is no different in this, having all kinds of themes for audiences to explore in a short time. Its episodes exist within all kinds of genres and seem to draw inspiration from everywhere. However, no one expected the creators to take inspiration from a 40-year-old story crafted by the writer of Half-Life.

Love, Death & Robots doesn’t have any limits when it comes to source material

Cyberpunk, as a genre, is very versatile. While from the outside, one might believe...

Netflix Viewers Can't Get Enough of Returning Hit Sci-Fi Series With Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
While many criticize Netflix for producing countless by-the-numbers dramas, mindless reality shows, and overly commercialized movies, occasionally, the streamer takes a jump into the unknown with something more obscure and arthouse. In the case of Love, Death & Robots, it has proven to be a worthwhile risk as the sci-fi anthology series is one of the streamer's most acclaimed shows. The series, created by Tim Miller, only released its fourth season on May 15, and the series is once again a resounding success.

Love, Death & Robots is currently the 7th most popular show on Netflix this week. American Manhunt: Osama bin Laden continues to dominate the top spot, with Secrets We Keep coming in second. But for an obscure science-fiction animated anthology to compete so strongly against more commercial shows is incredible. Season 4 also continues the show's trend of receiving very strong reviews. The series holds an overall Rotten Tomatoes...

David Fincher’s Sci-Fi Anthology Show Returns to Netflix With 100% Rt Score, but Audiences Don’t Agree
Image
David Fincher may have first earned fans directing Fight Club, but they're in fisticuffs with critics over his latest release, Love, Death + Robots -- and not on the side you might think.

Historically a hit, critics are unanimously declaring the new season of the Fincher-produced animated Netflix series as another stellar entry, proven by a perfect 100% fresh status on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of publishing. But that impressive score is overshadowed by a resoundingly negative reception among audiences, who slapped Love, Death + Robots with a 39% average on the same platform.

Netflix’s Cult Animated Anthology Series Lands Perfect Critical Reception While Viewers Bash Latest Season

The fourth volume of the Netflix animated anthology dropped May 15, fresh batches of digestible sci-fi, horror, and fantasy tales in tow. Critics can’t stop gushing, with Johnny Loftus of Decider lauding how the show “again makes tremendous use of its anthology form,...

Love Death Robots: The ‘Ice’ Universe Expands In Vol. 4’s ‘400 Boys’
Image
Love, Death & Robots returns with a fresh new volume, with ten animated bite-sized science-fiction shorts that, conceptually and by technique, supersede practically any contemporary work in science fiction. Created by Tim Miller and produced by David Fincher, the series first debuted in 2019 and grew a cult following over its following seasons. It has been exploring its titular theme of cerebral emotions, existential dystopia, and artificial intelligence in ways that have never been done before in visual media. While each season and each episode brings forth a unique concept, the series has a thematic resonance that places the individual episodes on a large dystopian landscape that may soon merge with reality. Besides its highly conceptual world-building and sci-fi rationales, each episode looks like a piece of art drawn in distinct art styles and sometimes resonates with a style, a world, or a concept previously seen in an episode. No, Love, Death & Robots...

Love, Death & Robots Season 4 Episodes Ranking: Best To Not-So-Best
Image
Love, Death & Robots returns after a three-year hiatus with its vol. 4 on Netflix, with an electric heart and ancient soul. Created by Tim Miller and produced by David Fincher, the show’s highly artistic vision drives into the post-apocalyptic world once again, keeping up with the tempo of the previous seasons but also modifying its genome to stay relevant and future-forward in these changing times.

With an assortment of ten episodes, the show’s range covers an Rhcp concert, T-Rex Gladiators, and giant extraterrestrial God babies destroying Fun City gangs. With highly stylized animation, each episode is stellar in its visuals, almost as if carrying the narrative on its shoulders. However, what has been consistently working out for Love, Death & Robots over the seasons is that, despite its science fiction arc reaching far into the future, and its mechanical grandeur and visual techniques delivering top-notch animation art, the...

Netflix's Returning Sci-Fi Anthology Show From David Fincher Has Critics & Audiences Divided On Rotten Tomatoes
Image
Netflix's sci-fi anthology series, Love, Death + Robots, returned for its fourth season and has left critics and audiences significantly divided. The adult animated series comes from creators Tim Miller and David Fincher, the latter of whom is known for other massive hits like Alien 3, Seven, Fight Club, Panic Room, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and more.Love, Death + Robots was initially conceived as a reboot of the 1981 animated movie Heavy Metal, and the first three seasons had critics and audiences in relative agreement regarding its greatness. However, that has ended with season 4.

A day after its release on Netflix, Love, Death + Robots season 4 has a rare 100% Tomatometer (critic) score on Rotten Tomatoes. This favorable reception is contradicted by the anthology series' audience score, which stands at only 34% with over 50 ratings. Where critics praise Love, Death + Robots season 4's continued creativity, general audiences overwhelmingly complained that...

TV Animation roundtable panel: ‘#1 Happy Family USA,’ ‘Secret Level,’ and ‘Arcane’
Image
The films of Disney, Pixar, and a cult-classic anthology film were brought up as defining pieces of animation when Gold Derby assembled artists behind three animated programs that are eyeing to score Emmy nominations next month. The types of stories they want to see told through animation and what episodes they might want to submit for Emmy consideration were also topics of discussion for our Meet the Experts: TV Animation panel. The panelists were #1 Happy Family USA cocreator and star Ramy Youssef, Secret Level creator Tim Miller, and Arcane writer Amanda Overton.

Watch the full roundtable panel above. Click each person's name to watch an individual interview.

Overton remembers loving The Little Mermaid when that came out but had a huge revelation when she saw Beauty and the Beast and how the film added 3D elements to its 2D animation style. “When they started doing those, they just felt so...

‘Secret Level’ creator Tim Miller explains how he gets writers to create short stories based on video and role-playing games
Image
In putting together episodes of Secret Level, creator Tim Miller utilized a very similar system that he used when doing the show Love, Death + Robots. He assembled this group of novelists and short story writers and helped to give them key information about various video games to build stories off of. “We make these big decks that tells you all the do’s and don’ts and we send them to the authors and then they pitch us. We’ll usually ask five or 10 authors to pitch us on any given game. Then we pick the best idea that we like and they write a prose version of that story which we then adapt into a screenplay,” he tells Gold Derby during our recent Meet the Experts: TV Animation panel.

Secret Level, which is available to stream on Prime Video, is an animated anthology series that tells standalone short...

Move over, Spotify and Apple. YouTube has its own podcast charts now.

For years, Spotify and Apple have published their own charts showing best-performing podcasts. As a result, when new podcasts debut or older podcasts see a notable spike in listenership, those companies are often cited in articles, simply because they’re the ones providing the data.

YouTube, it seems, is no longer willing to be left out–especially with 1 billion people listening to podcast content on its platform each month.

This morning, as a followup to its annual Brandcast presentation, it revealed the launch of its own weekly podcast charts.

Called Weekly Top Podcast Shows, the chart will update each Wednesday, showing the top 100 podcasts on YouTube by U.S. watch time.

Unsurprisingly, YouTube’s first chart showed The Joe Rogan Experience is its #1 podcast, followed by Kill Tony, Rotten Mango, 48 Hours, The MeidasTouch Podcast, and H3 Show. (More below.)

Best Episodes of 'Love, Death + Robots'
Image
In a world where so much entertainment is afraid to take risks, Love, Death + Robots is the iconoclastic brainchild of one man’s enigmatic yet expansive tastes. While a dedicated team of artists craft the (mostly) animated shorts comprising the 35 episodes of Ldr, the basis for almost all of them are short stories that Tim Miller loves. Miller, the series co-creator and executive producer keeps a catalog of material on his computer, ready for the right moment to pair a story with a visionary team and unleash the results on unsuspecting audiences.

Now that we’ve arrived atVolume 4, the audience may suspect that they’re going to get something unexpected, yet the show still surprises. From hard-edged, serious sci-fi to explosively violent, unapologetically puerile action, the show contains multitudes.

Among the most ardent fans of Ldr are the episode directors themselves, who have trouble picking their favorites among the first...
