Is Finales of the Unexplained Another Unsolved Mysteries?
Image
Files of the Unexplained lacks the spooky tone that made Unsolved Mysteries captivating for viewers. Unlike Unsolved Mysteries, Files of the Unexplained struggles with storytelling, feeling disjointed and lacking in depth. The series presents too many possibilities without clear direction, leaving episodes feeling empty and lacking coherence.

From aliens to sea creatures and plenty in between, Netflix’s Files of the Unexplained is a new docuseries exploring several mysterious phenomena. Taking the number one spot on the streaming platform, the series consists of eight episodes, each investigating specific enigmas without definitive explanations. Narrated by Tijuana Ricks, the show has already been compared to the wildly popular mystery series Unsolved Mysteries, which Netflix revived in 2020. Much like Unsolved Mysteries, Files of the Unexplained doesn’t necessarily provide answers to the questions it raises. Instead, it relies on viewers to explore the possibilities of what could be true.

Originally airing in 1987, Unsolved Mysteries...

Women In Film Launches Inaugural Fellowship Program (Exclusive)
Women in Film (Wif) has unveiled its inaugural fellowship program, TheWrap can reveal exclusively.

This year’s fellowship program, which launched as the organization celebrates its 50th anniversary, recognizes 87 directors, writers, cinematographers, creative or indie producers, line producers, executives, reps, artisans and below-the-line crew members.

Open to women, nonbinary, and trans people across entertainment, the program will bring together the fellows for a year of mentorship from the Wif team, including guest speakers and master classes, networking, field trips and other individualized support.

With mentors from both the business and craft sides of the industry, each fellow will participate in six mentoring sessions with their cohort and mentor team, and will meet with Melissa Verdugo, a former talent manager and current Wif senior manager of career programs, to discuss an individualized plan based on each fellows’ needs.

TriStar Pictures President Nicole Brown Accepts Special Honors as The Blackhouse Foundation Celebrates 15th Anniversary (Exclusive)
Image
As The Blackhouse Foundation marked its 15th anniversary, the organization presented TriStar Pictures president Nicole Brown with a special honor during a cocktail reception on Oct. 15.

Held at the Annenberg Community Beach House in Santa Monica, Calif., the special event commemorated Blackhouse’s work to amplify the voices of Black multiplatform content creators, particularly through its programming at the Sundance Film Festival, increasing the number of Black attendees, as well as expanding the opportunities for Black films and filmmakers to be featured at major film festivals.

Brown was awarded the Entertainment Trailblazer Award, singled out for embodying the nonprofit organization’s mission to “continually change the way audiences think about Black movies and television, and to keep the conversation about Black storytelling going on and off the screen.”

The honor was presented by The Blackhouse Foundation board chair and co-founder Brickson Diamond, who saluted Brown for her leadership. Among the...

Matt Czuchry, Bruce Greenwood, Emily VanCamp, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Manish Dayal, and Anuja Joshi in The Resident (2018)
The Resident Visits Tired 'Pregnancy in Jeopardy' Trope for CoNic
Matt Czuchry, Bruce Greenwood, Emily VanCamp, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Manish Dayal, and Anuja Joshi in The Resident (2018)
We have some bad news, The Resident fans.

According to a new report by TV Line, one of Chastain's own is about to go through a horrifying ordeal.

If you watch The Resident online, you know Nic (Emily VanCamp) and Conrad (Matt Czuchry) recently discovered they were expecting their first child.

Well, in true TV fashion, Nic is about to find herself, and her unborn child caught up in a "violent incident," according to the bombshell report.

"The shiny-happy times won’t last long," the outlet claims.

"Rather, both Nic’s life and the baby’s will be put into danger due to a random, violent incident."

"And the fallout from this event will bring back to Chastain one of Nic’s best friends, Billie Sutton (played by Jessica Lucas)."

This raises several questions, and we're not exactly happy about the series putting one of its best characters in harm's way,...

Automata (2017)
The world of independent television remains a complicated one with no easy path to success, but many creators are finding that the best way to sell their visions is to make the pilots themselves.
