Canadian filmmaker Jay Reid’s debut feature Sick Puppy will have its world premiere at FrightFest London on 25 August 2025, screening in the festival’s Discovery section at the Odeon Luxe West End. Billed as a psychological shocker with pitch-black humour, the film examines love, complicity and moral collapse through the lens of an unconventional domestic pact.
Natasha Calis stars as Charlie, a woman whose serial killer husband, John, finally agrees to abandon murder at her urging. Initially elated by the promise of suburban stability, Charlie’s certainty begins to erode when their fresh start is threatened by outside forces. As her doubts grow, she takes matters into her own hands, raising the question of whether her loyalty is driven by love, self-preservation, or something far darker.
Brett Geddes (The Boys), Rachel Boyd (Days of Our Lives) and Dylan Taylor round out the cast, anchoring a story that draws inspiration from...

Michael B. Jordan first broke out on television with his role as Wallace in the inaugural season of HBO's highly acclaimed drama, The Wire (2002). He subsequently appeared as a series regular on the ABC soap opera All My Children (2003–2006) and later delivered a standout performance in the NBC sports drama Friday Night Lights (2009–2011).
In the past decade, Jordan has become best known for his collaborations with writer-director Ryan Coogler – including Fruitvale Station (2013), Creed (2015), Black Panther (2018), Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), and Sinners (2025) – all of which earned him critical acclaim. He returned to his titular role in Creed II (2018) and Creed III (2023), the latter marking his directorial debut.
Jordan's broader filmography also includes roles in Chronicle (2012), That Awkward Moment (2014), Fantastic Four (2015), and Just Mercy (2019), in which he played civil rights lawyer Bryan Stevenson. However, it's Jordan's dystopian movie, adapted from an acclaimed book, that is seeing a resurgence on streaming, seven years after its initial release.

Airing its final episode in January 2022, The Expanse looked to be burning toward a bright new future but, one year later, the Rocinante's glorious comeback has been as cold and silent as the vast reaches of space itself. The Expanse had already averted disaster once before. Originally airing on the Syfy channel, the live-action adaptation of James S.A. Corey's book series ran for three seasons between 2015 and 2018 before facing the cruel guillotine of cable cancelation. Jeff Bezos quickly stepped in, stumping up the cash for an additional three seasons that ran between 2019 and 2022 before the Rocinante's flight plan was thwarted once again.
Despite being afforded one final run, three of James S.A. Corey's novels remained untouched, with The Expanse season 6 continuing the show's pattern of covering more or less one book per season. The TV story faced a choice between crafting an original ending that concluded all...

Michael Strahan just took a trip that was almost literally out of this world. On Saturday, Dec. 11, the Good Morning America co-host and former NFL star was blasted to the edge of space along with five other people onboard Amazon founder and billionaire Jeff Bezos' Blue Origin rocketship. After they landed, Strahan told people on the ground, "I wanna go back." He also said, "You got to get that perspective." Strahan was joined by space industry executive Dylan Taylor, investor Evan Dick, venture capitalist Lane Bess, his son Cameron Bess and Laura Shepard Churchley— the eldest daughter of late legendary U.S. astronaut Alan...

Good Morning America co-host Michael Strahan was the latest celebrity figure to be given a ticket to ride on a Blue Origin space mission Saturday, in what is undoubtedly a promotional opportunity for Jeff Bezos’ venture.
ABC News covered the mission live, along with cable news networks, and the network plans a special later on Saturday on its streaming channel ABC News Live.
The six-member crew included Strahan and Laura Shepard Churchley, the oldest daughter of Alan Shepard, who in 1961 was the first American to fly into space. The New Shepard rocket is named after her father.
The coverage captured the moment that Strahan and the rest of the crew exited the capsule, greeted by Bezos.
“It’s unreal,” Strahan could be heard telling Bezos, and the excited crew gave each other hugs.

Cancel your summer plans: TV is offering plenty of reasons to stay inside. Even when the weather’s great — and not a humid trap for blood-sucking insects and sticky clothes — there’s simply too much great, new programming popping in to spend all your time away from the big screen.
To kick the season off, Netflix is releasing a slew of much-anticipated original programs in May; one of which was announced so recently IndieWire didn’t have time to include it on this list. As the months tick by and the temperature climbs, look for cool new dramas from HBO, AMC, and Paramount Network. And if you need one more binge before summer’s end, Amazon, Hulu, and NBC have several options in mind.

Starring Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon, Fahrenheit 451 is based on Ray Bradbury’s classic novel where, in the near future, the media is an opiate, history is rewritten and “firemen” burn books.
Jordan plays Montag, a young fireman who struggles with his role as law enforcer. Battling his mentor, fire captain Beatty, played by Shannon, he forsakes his world in an effort to regain his humanity.
A new trailer for the HBO series has premiered and it looks good enough for me to be intrigued.
Sofia Boutella, Lilly Singh, Laura Harrier, Martin Donovan, Andy McQueen, Dylan Taylor, Grace Lynn Kung and Kier Dullea also star.
Fahrenheit 451 airs on HBO May 19, 2018.

VOD is where it’s at these days. In recent weeks, various titles have been scheduled to land on-demand before opening in theaters, from Lars von Trier’s four-hour-long sex epic Nymphomaniac to the Sharlto Copley-starring mind-bender Open Grave. The trend seems like it’ll only continue growing through next year, with simultaneous VOD-theatrical release dates being added to the calendar on a daily basis.
One film taking that road to release is Reasonable Doubt, which stars Dominic Cooper and Samuel L. Jackson. Today, we have the first trailer for the movie, clearing up a few plot aspects and promising a very fast-moving thriller. Check it out below:
Though the film’s plot reminds me an awful lot of The Lincoln Lawyer, the presence of capable stars like Cooper and Jackson suggest that Reasonable Doubt might turn out decently. The trailer certainly plays up the cat-and-mouse angle, as well...

It seems there was a casualty as a result of Orphan Black’s success on BBC America. While Tatiana Maslany was dazzling audiences with her ability to play five different characters at once, another drama was quietly burning out. Copper was the big, bright star on BBC America once upon a time. But everyone seems to have forgotten about it and as a result it has received an almost unjust cancellation. I say almost unjust because, while it sucks that a good series is being taken off the air because of a silly thing as low ratings, it’s important to acknowledge that something about the show pushed viewers away rather than attracting more.
I referred to Copper as a casualty of Orphan Black’s success, but that’s not a fair statement. Orphan Black didn’t murder this show, but it certainly provided an alternative. And, let’s face it,...

If you think America is strange, violent and complex now, and you wish for a simpler, kinder time way back when, then BBC America's "Copper" may mess with your nostalgic yearnings. It turns out the past is just as dark, twisted and ultimately hopeful as today (after all, we survived it to get here).

ABC's new outer-space drama debuted on Sunday night. Will Defying Gravity be allowed to complete its mission or, like so many shows before it, be lost in space?
Defying Gravity follows the adventures of eight international astronauts as they fly a spaceship named Antares. On a top-secret mission, their lives are being recorded and telecast on Earth as part of a documentary. Despite the fact that the crewmembers wear libido-suppressing devices, there are plenty of romantic entanglements.
The show features the talents of Andrew Airlie, Christina Cox, Paula Garces, Laura Harris, Peter Howitt, Florentine Lahme, Karen LeBlanc, Ron Livingston, Ty Olsson, Zahf Paroo, Eyal Podell, Maxim Roy, Dylan Taylor, and Malik Yoba.
The sci-fi drama's storyline is strangely similar to the failed pilot for Virtuality that aired a month ago. Defying Gravity is a Canadian series that's co-produced by CTV, Omni Film Productions Limited, and Fox Television Studios. Filming has...

I've been a fan of women in space movies ever since I watched Kate Capshaw and Lea Thompson in Space Camp as a kid. Although I've never gotten into the Star Trek or Star Wars franchises too much, because they rarely give women leadership roles — except for Star Trek: Voyager, which I've seen all seven seasons of — and I've only watched some of the Battlestar Galactica episodes, I enjoyed Jodie Foster's Contact (at least the first half), and Lori and I both loved the 2002 Showtime series Odyssey Five.
So I was excited to hear about the new space drama coming to America (and Canada, Germany, and the U.K.).
Last week, ABC purchased 13 episodes of the new Canadian sci-fi drama Defying Gravity, which has this description, "In the near future, eight astronauts from five countries (four women and four men) undertake a mysterious six-year international space mission covering thirteen billion kilometers.
