What to watch this weekend Dec. 13, 2024: TV awards contenders
Image
Trust us: Nothing good will come from skipping Netflix’s newest dark comedy series “No Good Deed.” Created by Liz Feldman of the Emmy-nominated “Dead to Me,” the eight-episode series shares connective tissue with the earlier comedy, as both are set in affluent areas of Los Angeles and revolve around characters who are being less than truthful with one another. Emmy winners Lisa Kudrow and Ray Romano anchor the series as Lydia and Paul, a grieving couple attempting to sell their longtime home in the desirable Los Feliz neighborhood in the wake of their son’s death. While multiple interested parties believe the gorgeous Spanish-style villa on a bright corner lot will fix all their problems, there is a darkness that lingers within its walls, and Lydia and Paul must hide the truth about what happened inside the house long enough to sell it. With a stellar ensemble that also includes Linda Cardellini,...

‘Queer Eye’ Season 9 Cast: Who Replaced Bobby Berk?
Image
The Fab Five saw a bit of a shakeup for “Queer Eye” Season 9.

After eight seasons of impeccable interior design makeovers, Bobby Berk announced he would not return to the Netflix show in November 2023.

While many of his fans and castmates shared their love for Berk, some fans speculated he had been pushed out by fellow castmember, fashion expert Tan France, who denied that in no uncertain terms and also said Berk had been “fired.”

In a subsequent interview with Vanity Fair, Berk said that he left because their contract ended with Season 8 and he had already started looking ahead to other projects. He also said he was surprised that his co-stars changed their minds, saying “I can’t be mad — for a second I was.”

Berk also confirmed that he and France had indeed had a falling out, but he stressed it had nothing to do with the show,...

HGTV's Nate Berkus On Surviving Grief After His Partner's Tsunami Death
Image
Interior designer and HGTV star Nate Berkus is reflecting on a somber anniversary — the abrupt death of his partner, photographer Fernando Bengoechea, in the devastating and horrific 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami.

Anyone who has lost a romantic partner knows that major anniversaries can make the loss feel acutely recent, and December will mark 20 years since the shocking, unthinkable disaster killed more than 220,000 people.

Nate was not the only celebrity to endure the loss of a partner in the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami — supermodel Petra Nemcova barely survived it, clinging to a tree with a broken pelvis for an unimaginable eight hours.

Like Nate, Petra was vacationing with boyfriend Simon Atlee (also a photographer) when the tsunami struck without warning, and she said everything "happened in split seconds."

As the deadly wall of water hit, Petra said:

"I heard Simon screaming my name, and it was the last time I heard him."

The morning saw Biden hit a campaign rally in Raleigh, North Carolina, where he seemingly ignored calls to step aside in the 2024 election by declaring, “I know how to do this job.” By the afternoon, Biden was in New York alongside his wife, First Lady Jill Biden, superstars Elton John and Katy Perry, New York Governor Kathy Hochul, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and other politicos and New York officials to unveil the city’s Stonewall National Monument Visitor Center. The 30 New York Real Estate Agents on Hollywood’s Hot List
Image
One word is on the lips of every broker in NYC, and they’ve all got an opinion.

“The elections always bring uncertainty into the equation,” says Douglas Elliman star Fredrik Eklund. Agrees fellow Elliman broker Steven Cohen, “The real estate market is averse to volatility and historically slows down as we approach the elections.

“I think activity will remain low until at least later this year, after the election,” concurs Nobel Black, also of Elliman. But says Compass’ Matt Breitenbach, “The Hamptons real estate market will be fine despite macroeconomic pressure and presidential elections.”

But no matter what’s in the crystal ball for the remainder of 2024, one thing is clear: New York’s power sellers again made their marks over the past year. Despite high interest rates, inflation and competition with South Florida, Manhattan continued to see jaw-dropping sales at buildings the Central Park Tower, where Elliman’s...

Wasserman Acquires Powerhouse Manager Brillstein Entertainment Partners; Adds Pitt, Sandler, Maher & Deep List To Sports & Music
Image
Sports and music representation powerhouse Wasserman has finalized its acquisition of Brillstein Entertainment Partners, the venerable Hollywood management and production company. Terms were not disclosed. Deadline exclusively revealed the acquisition talks back in February.

Wasserman chairman and CEO Casey Wasserman and Brillstein co-CEOs Cynthia Pett and Jon Liebman made the announcement. It puts Wasserman, grandson of the iconic Hollywood representative and studio chief Lew Wasserman, directly into the film and TV representation and production game for the first time. It is the second strategic alignment for Wasserman, who took over the lucrative music touring business that was once the most profitable part of the Paradigm agency, at a time when the pandemic grounded live touring revenues.

It would be the latest move in management after 3Arts made a deal with Lionsgate, and Range Media Partners linked with Automatik.

Wasserman, Pett and Liebman believe their cultures will mesh in their compatible business and staffs.

The appraisals are in, and the team of Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt have won HGTV’s “Rock the Block” Season 2!

Yes, you read that right. The Kleinschmidts, who did not win a single individual challenge, took the whole damn thing. Their craftsman-style fun and functional home, appraised for $625,000.

Perhaps it was the basement bowling alley. (You also read that right.)

Ok, it definitely wasn’t the mini lanes — at least not from an appraisal standpoint. The Kleinschmidts definitely had the best backyard space, and their double dishwashers, dream laundry room and converted third-car garage might have sealed the deal.

Jill Duggar Busts out a "Homophobic" Book to Teach Her Sons About Sex and Fans Are Pissed
Fans are ganging up on Jill Duggar after she shared photos of a seemingly "homophobic" book. The former Counting On star is teaching her sons about sex, even though they're basically still babies, and the parenting police are not having it. "Want to teach your kids about the birds and the bees before someone else does, but you don't know where to start?" she captioned the snap. "Someone in our small group told us about these books (4 book set) and we love them!" Watch the video above to find out what people are saying. The description for The Story of Me reads: "It's never too early to begin giving your child a practical understanding of his or her unique, beautiful body and why God designed it to be exactly the way it is." Derick Dillard Really Did Get Into Law School — and We Have the Proof!
Congrats are in order for Derick Dillard! The former Counting On star was said to be attending The School of Law at the University of Arkansas this fall — and now we have confirmation: He's in the campus directory! According to the anti-Duggar Facebook page, Duggar Family News: Life Is Not All Pickles and Hairspray, "Derick amazingly did get accepted to law school," the admin wrote. "He starts on Monday. Please Don't email him and feed his persecution complex. Thanks to my insider source for the info. I still can't believe it. Lol!" Or please do email him because it would be hilarious. Credit: University of Arkansas Previously, the page revealed that the father-of-two was "giving up missioning, whatever he did at Cross Church, and God, to attend a secular law school." But the news didn't actually come as a big surprise. In June, eagle-eyed fans on reddit noticed that Derick...

Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar Reportedly Confronted Derick Dillard Over Transphobic Tweets
Family drama! A new report claims Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar were so fed up with their son-in-law, Derick Dillard, they had to confront him. "Everything that Derick has said has caused the family bad press," a source told Radar Online. In fact, the entire family is "pissed off" at the father-of-two because they don't like "what he says and how he says it." Icymi, the former Counting On star was fired from TLC after sharing his unwarranted opinion on I Am Jazz star, Jazz Jennings. Last August, he tweeted, "What an oxymoron... a 'reality' show which follows a non-reality," before adding, "'Transgender' is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it's ordained by God." Unfortunately, Jill Duggar's husband didn't stop there. He later claimed that he harbored no ill will toward Jazz — even though he referred to her using the wrong pronoun. "I want to be clear. I have nothing against him.

Trouble in Paradise? Jill Duggar Reveals She's "Loving" This Book About the Challenges of Marriage
Wait a sec — are Jill Duggar and Derick Dillard still married? The former Counting On stars have had a stressful few months, to say the least, and now Jill is hinting that they may be on the rocks. The mother-of-two took to Instagram Stories on Thursday, July 26 to reveal she's "loving" a book titled, Letters to My Daughter: The Art of Being a Wife. According to Amazon, the piece explores the ups and downs of relationships and discourages divorce. "Radio personality and bestselling author Barbara Rainey knows firsthand the challenges newly married couples face," the descriptions reads. "Dismayed by Hollywood depictions of marriage and the seemingly easy solution of divorce, she sees a desperate need for a voice of experience, a mentor who has been there and understands — and can encourage, coach, and care." Hmm... Credit: Instagram Of course, there are plenty of reasons the 27-year-old could (and should) be angry with her husband.
