New Netflix series The Accident (2024) has dominated the global charts in the last few days, but its tragic story about the deaths of several children in a terrifying accident has been undermined by many viewers being unable to stop laughing about it. The show centers on the aftermath of a tragic birthday party, during which three children die after a bouncy castle is carried away by high winds. The Accident Cast & Character Guide
Image
The Accident, directed by Lpez and Querejeta, gained worldwide popularity but received mixed reviews for its stretched movie-like premise. Ana Claudia Talancn shines as Daniela, a police detective investigating a tragic event that leaves families reeling in grief and blame. The talented ensemble cast includes Sebastian Martnez, Alberto Guerra, Erndira Ibarra, and other notable actors in the gripping Netflix thriller.

Netflix's The Accident, a Mexican thriller drama from directors Klych Lpez and Gracia Querejeta and writer Leonardo Padrn, surged in popularity worldwide just days after its initial release, prompting many viewers to wonder more about The Accident's cast and characters. Broken into 10 episodes, The Accident has garnered negative reviews from critics, who feel like the movie-like premise is stretched too thin. Without delving into spoiler territory, the thriller-meets-drama definitely takes cues from the best telenovelas and soap operas, as The Accident chronicles the aftermath of a birthday party gone wrong.

The Department of Time’s’ Onza Touts ‘Sattva,’ a Political Drama Series with Luis Gamboa, Ruben Sanz (Exclusive)
Image
In its continued bid to create more premium content for the Latin American market under its Onza Americas banner, Madrid-based Onza Entertainment – behind such hit series as “The Department of Time” and a collaborator on Dopamine’s historical drama “Hernan” – is developing political drama series “Sattva.”

Created by Spanish actor Ruben Sanz (“El Dragon”) and written by Int’l Emmy-nominated Luis Gamboa (“Promesas de Campaña”), the series is conceived as a transatlantic production between Mexico and Spain.

Onza is presenting “Saatva” at Iberseries & Platino Industria’s new Co-Production & Financing Forum on Sept. 28.

The abundance of streaming platforms – and their insatiable demand for content – that allowed shows to circulate across more territories has encouraged more content production, said Valentina Pozzoli, Onza’s director of development & international co-productions. The success of such Spanish-language series as “Money Heist,” (“Casa de Papel”) “Dark Desire” (“Oscuro Deseo”) and “Elite” has also been a motivating factor.

‘Ya Veremos’ Film Review: Mawkish Family Melodrama Has an Eye for Formula
Five years ago — almost to the date — Pantelion Films, the Spanish-language and bilingual outfit from Lionsgate and Mexico’s Televisa, released the smash hit “Instructions Not Including,” starring Eugenio Derbez. Turning its leading man into a bankable movie star, the dramedy about a father raising his long-lost prepubescent daughter scored hugely with audiences both in its homeland and stateside with record-breaking grosses in both markets.

After a long string of box-office triumphs, from PG-13 comedies to an animated feature and even a gender-reversed remake of 1987’s “Overboard” (starring Derbez), the production company and distributor has established itself as an enviable venture, catering to its core audience in the U.S. (Latino immigrants familiar with homegrown talent) and expanding into the Anglo space via collaborations with popular American comedians. The artistic value of its productions is not as significant as their role filling in a gap with content that a large...

Mauricio Ochmann-Fernanda Castillo Starrer ‘Ya Veremos’ Posts Bumper Mexican Debut Ahead Of Stateside Bow
Mauricio Ochmann
Bittersweet drama Ya Veremos (We’ll See) has posted the second-biggest opening weekend ever for a Mexican film in its home market, beating out Mission: Impossible — Fallout (in its second week), Christopher Robin and other studio fare in the process.

The film’s top-spot $3.9M ($73M Mexican Pesos) weekend haul was second in the all-time rankings behind 2013 box office sensation Instructions Not Included, the most successful Spanish-language film ever at the global box office, which raked in $45M stateside for Lionsgate’s Pantelion and $100M worldwide. Pantelion also has Ya Veremos stateside so will be hoping for a strong number over the Labor Day weekend.

The film’s four-day opening in Mexico saw it hit 2,380 screens and pull in 1.4M admissions.

Directed by Pitipol Ybarra (Pulling Strings) and starring Mauricio Ochmann, Fernanda Castillo, Erik Hayser and Emiliano Aramayo, the tear-jerker tells the story of a child who is dealing with...

‘Madea Family Funeral’ From Lionsgate Moves To 2019
Lionsgate has moved the next in the Tyler Perry franchise, A Madea Family Funeral out of 2018 and into next year. The film will now open on March 1, 2019 in wide release coming out of the fall 2018 where it was unset. Family Funeral is the eighth film in the franchise that started in 2006.

In releasing the film on March 1, the title is on the same date that Lionsgate has the Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland starring Chaos Walking from director Doug Liman in wide release, so something’s gotta eventually give. In other words, Lionsgate vs. Lionsgate and one of their two eyes will likely blink (we expect Walking to move).

The film will also be on the same date as How To Train Your Dragon: Hidden World from Universal and The Kid Who Would Be King from 20th Century Fox.

This comes also after Lionsgate announced two other release dates with Five Feet Apart...
