At the point when Drake knew he wouldn’t return to filming, he approved the storyline of how his iconic character John Black would die on the show.

Comedian Accuses Ricky Gervais of Bullying Him on Tour
Image
Comedian Robin Ince was the opener for Ricky Gervais comedy tours in the 2000s, a time when Gervais was at the height of his Office fame. Ince, who left comedy in 2015, says his time on stage with Gervais took a physical toll.

“I am not saying it is a traumatic experience, but after two weeks I came out in red lumps that my doctor said were a stress rash,” Ince recalled on the Starting Line podcast. “I think my hair was coming out in clumps.”

“I look back now, and I think it is bullying — really it is,” Ince says of his time working with Gervais. One example? Gervais used to make up a diary supposedly written by Ince. At a Christmas party, he read the fake musings aloud to the partygoers. “I forget how weird it is. I’m very good at sometimes just acclimatizing to things, in which you go,...

The Mystery of Whether or Not Ricky Gervais Wrote His ‘Simpsons’ Episode
Image
Ricky Gervais is a self-proclaimed Simpsons superfan. “When I got into comedy in about 1999, I remember thinking that I would love to get a joke on The Simpsons,” he once told The Independent. “It had already been my favorite program for about 10 years by then. The thing is, every comedian worth his salt, his favorite thing is The Simpsons.”

Gervais even paid Matt Groening 20 bucks to draw a Homer for radio flunky Karl Pilkington, proclaiming, “I love Karl ‘cause he’s stupid like me” in a cartoon dialogue bubble.

Gervais loved the show so much that he asked if he could write an episode, according to Simpsons writer Mike Reiss’ book Springfield Confidential. “We were flattered,” Reiss said. At the time, Gervais was sitting on top of the comedy world as the creator of the original version of The Office.

But the writers were “even more flattered when he called...

Oscar Isaac: Marvel Has ‘Taken the Place of Big Comedies’ at the Box Office
Image
Oscar Isaac is proud to be part of the legacy of escapism when it comes to superhero installments.

The “Moon Knight” star revealed in an Esquire cover story that he believes there is a reason why the MCU has dominated box offices for years.

“Marvel has taken the place of big comedies, to a certain extent, in the theater,” Isaac said. “There was a time when you’d go and watch the big comedies. You’d watch ‘Hangover,’ you’d watch all the great Judd Apatow films. And now it feels like these are the movies that people go to, to have a really good time and to laugh. These superhero movies, particularly the Marvel movies — exclusively the Marvel movies. That’s a really important element.”

The star and executive producer of the Disney+ limited series continued, “But tonally, what [Robert] Downey [Jr.] started — which was just amazing — was kind of the slightly self-referential,...

Oscar Isaac Says British Comedy Inspired ‘Moon Knight’: Like ‘Peter Sellers in a Marvel Movie’
Image
One of this spring’s most anticipated television series is “Moon Knight,” the Disney+ series that stars Oscar Isaac as a veteran with dissociative identity disorder who receives the power of an Egyptian god. Much has been made about the show’s unapologetic weirdness and brutality, with fans hoping that the series can marry the charm of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the creative pedigree of prestige television.

Oscar Isaac is one of the rare actors who can step between blockbuster filmmaking and serious acting with ease, so expectations are high for his take on the obscure Marvel character. In a new interview with NME, Isaac details his process for embodying the complex character. The actor revealed that he has found inspiration in some very unexpected places — primarily, British comedy.

“I thought, ‘What’s an energy that I haven’t seen in the MCU before? Like, what if someone asked...

‘The ParaPod Movie’ Review
Image
Stars: Ian Boldsworth, Barry Dodds, Carol Fieldhouse, Chris French | Directed by Ian Boldsworth

Starting as a comedy podcast about ghosts, mysteries and conspiracies in 2015, ParaPod has now become a movie. The first podcast to make that transfer to full feature film. I though had never listened to the podcast and knew very little about the movie, so would it work?

The short answer is thankfully yes. This is part comedy part horror part documentary (or mockumentary I’m not actually sure!) and does each of those things expertly.

Ian Boldsworth (also the director) and Barry Dodds, the hosts of the podcast, travel the U.K. to underground witches, haunted villages, violent poltergeists and much more, with Barry trying to prove to Ian that the paranormal is very real and it’s out there. You see, Barry believes in ghosts, despite never actually witnessing one, while Ian is very much sceptical,...

Tides review – laughter and loneliness on a narrowboat
A group of friends embark on a boating trip – but despite the beauty of the countryside not everything is shipshape in this understated drama

Likable, laid-back and low-key, this indie Brit movie from first-timer Tupaq Felber takes its characters on a bittersweet midlife trip on a narrowboat down Surrey’s beautiful River Wey. We get crisp black-and-white cinematography, heartfelt performances and relaxed, improv-type dialogue.

The story is about three male actors between jobs, mates from way back, like The Inbetweeners 30 years on. In vague charge of their river holiday is Jon (Jon Foster), then there’s Simon (Simon Meacock) and Zooby (Jamie Zubairi). For the first bit of the journey they share the boat with their friend Red (Robyn Isaac), who has to leave early to go to a wedding; she has a bit of difficult shared history with one of the guys. Isaac shows how tense her character is...

Sky Developing Police Comedy ‘Code 404’ Starring ‘Rogue One’s Daniel May
Sky is developing a police comedy starring Rogue One’s Daniel Mays from Broadchurch and Tin Star indie Kudos.

I hear the pay-tv giant is making a non-tx pilot, which has the working title of Code 404, written by Horrible Histories and Not Going Out writer Daniel Peak and is being co-produced by Water and Power Productions.

Directed by Ben Palmer, who previously helmed The Inbetweeners and David Mitchell and Robert Webb comedy Back, the broadcaster is currently deciding whether to take the project to full series.

The full details of the police project have been kept under wraps, but I’m told the narrative comedy has a similar tone to Charlie Brooker’s A Touch of Cloth, the spoof cop comedy that ran on Sky One in 2012. Phil Temple and Diederick Santer exec produce for Kudos and Sam Myer exec produces for Water and Power.

It is an interesting role for Mays,...

Apparently Karl Pilkington Predicted Episodes Of Black Mirror Long Ago
Apparently, some of the plotlines from Black Mirror Season 4 have already been pitched, and it was Karl Pilkington of all people who predicted these stories would someday be told. That's not astonishingly surprising to me considering a lot of Pilkington's dim-wittedness seems as though it could be an act most of the time, but it's still impressive nonetheless. Of course, while everyone is sitting here praising Pilkington for his predicting of the future, no one is questioning the Black Mirror writers who may have seen his bits in the past and nicked his idea! Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland in Rick and Morty (2013)
‘HarmonQuest’: Dan Harmon Has Managed to Turn Role Playing with Friends into a TV Show
Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland in Rick and Morty (2013)
Dan Harmon began playing Dungeons & Dragons with his pals as a kid. Now he’s turned a life-long affinity for role-playing games into a full-fledged TV show.

“HarmonQuest,” which premieres July 14 on Seeso, features Harmon and pals on stage as they improvise through the Pathfinder Roleplaying World, with much of their interaction and gameplay then set to animation.

Harmon told IndieWire that he was inspired by HBO’s “The Ricky Gervais Show,” which took Gervais’ podcast with Karl Pilkington and animated their conversations. “I was endlessly entertained by impromptu audio coupled with animation, with the animation bringing what was being said to life, especially when what was being said was absurd,” Harmon said.

“In TV or all things creative, it’s your job to follow your own laughter,” he added. “When I was watching that show I’d be laughing so hard my sides would hurt, which is a rare thing.

Sky

Karl Pilkington is the supreme leader of normal-ness. It’s almost impossible to believe one man’s misery could prove to be so incredibly entertaining, and that one of the most genuinely hilarious men on television could also turn out to be the most frustrating human being since the world was nothing more than a misshapen rock.

The Idiot Abroad star offers up the most down-to-Earth, relatable assessment of our planet and the people in it, despite being given the opportunity to single-handedly live out the dreams of every person in our corner of the solar system.

Karl’s hugely popular The Moaning Of Life series is finally back for a second season after its ludicrous debut run back in 2013, so what better time than to look back about some of the finest ‘moanings’ ever caught on film.

The first season saw Karl jet across the globe to explore rich cultures and traditions,...

Can you guess these celebrities as Peanuts characters?
Ricky Gervais
Ever wanted to set foot into the world of Snoopy? Well now you can, Charlie Brown – thanks to the new Peanutize Me website website, created in advance of the new Peanuts movie due for release in the Us on November 6, and in the UK on December 21. And good grief, it's wonderful.

After professionally evaluating the site this morning – Ok, mucking about – we wanted to see what some of our favourite celebrities and fictional characters would look like in Charles M Schultz's famous world. Annoyingly, the game doesn't have a facial hair option, or a nose editor. But hey, it's not meant to be The Sims, right?

Have a go at guessing our creations below:

1. The little red-haired girl singer might get you 'Thinking Out Loud'

2. This rapper and his celebrity wife are 'Bound 2' cause a ruckus in Peanuts land

3. Brown. Charlie Brown.

4. Bazinga!

5. And on that bombshell...

6. Sigh... this...

Class of 92's Out of Their League: Are Ryan Giggs and Gary Neville the next big reality TV stars?
Documentary film The Class of 92 documented the journeys of a group of footballers as they went from fledgling youth players to worldwide icons in a matter of years.

Now, a new BBC series shows how Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville, Phil Neville and Nicky Butt are taking on the serious side of football: owning a club.

The five players (minus fellow Class of 92 star David Beckham) star in Out of Their League, a three-part series that follows the new owners of Salford City Fc, after they decided to buy their local club in 2014. The documentary promises to give football fans a rarely-seen close look at how a football club is run, and the challenges that face everyone from the owner to the tea lady.

A future reality show?

One of the greatest things about the series is the characters it throws up. Every club across the country has its jokers,...

Karl Pilkington gets attacked by a crab and swims through poo in The Moaning of Life series 2 trailer
Karl Pilkington will soon be heading out on more miserable adventures in series two of The Moaning of Life.

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's long-suffering pal-turned-traveller will return for the comedy documentary series later this year on Sky1, and it promises to be even better than the first series.

The Moaning of Life will see Karl trying to re-assess his life since turning 40, which apparently means swimming in poo and taking part in strange nudist art.

"I've been on the planet for 40 years now, and I'm still none the wiser as to what it's all about really," he said.

"I've never worried about life's big questions. People at my age sit about pondering, 'Why are we here?' The only time I ever asked myself that is when Suzanne booked us a surprise holiday to Lanzarote."

Sky1 will announce broadcast dates in the coming months, with an autumn launch expected.

Alex Horne: 'Taskmaster was inspired by The Crystal Maze and Big Brother'
Alex Horne spent a whole year setting silly tasks for his mates for an hour's worth of fun at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2010 and 2011. Now, he's bringing Taskmaster to TV with the help of Greg Davies and Dave.

The award-winning comic will sit aside Davies in the comedy game show. "I'm sort of the Nick Hewer to his Alan Sugar," he told Digital Spy. Frank Skinner, Tim Key, Romesh Ranganathan, Roisin Conaty and Josh Widdicombe will be the unfortunate stars who have to endure their crazy ideas.

"It was entirely meant to be a bit of fun, I quite like doing an extra show while I'm up in Edinburgh because I think it's such a good chance to do something with other comedians," he said. "Someone did say after 'ooh that would work well on telly', and I didn't really think they were right, because telly normally can take the fun out of something,...

Ricky Gervais, Kerry Godliman, Karl Pilkington, David Earl, and Holli Dempsey in Derek (2012)
7 New Netflix Shows to Binge Watch in April 2015 (And the Best Episodes of Each)
Ricky Gervais, Kerry Godliman, Karl Pilkington, David Earl, and Holli Dempsey in Derek (2012)
1) "Derek: Special" (available April 3) Why Should I Watch It? Written by, directed by and starring Ricky Gervais, "Derek" is attempting to be the third member of an impressive trilogy of TV trilogies. Both the UK versions of "The Office" and HBO's "Extras" made it two seasons plus a Christmas episode, and now "Derek" is following the same mold. After airing two seasons on Channel 4 in the UK and Netflix stateside, the story of the slow-witted, warm-hearted nursing home aide will wrap up with an hour-long special.  Best Episode: Here's hoping it's the special. After a moving first season, "Derek" devolved into a shell of its former self in Season 2. Much of the show's heart was lost after Gervais was forced to write out co-star (and friend) Karl Pilkington, who played the shy and nervous Dougie, after the longtime collaborator proclaimed his distaste for acting in Season 1. The focus then shifted to Kev.

Michael Palin unsure of future travel shows, vows not to retire
Michael Palin has said that he is unsure whether to produce a new travel series.

The Monty Python star has filmed eight travel documentary series since 1988, his latest being 2012's Brazil.

However, he has not made any plans to film a ninth, as it takes up a large amount of time to complete.

"I did think about it," he told Digital Spy and others. "To do the series properly, especially if there's a book attached, that's two years of work.

"I'm pretty certain that I couldn't give up two years of my life. That is something about getting older, you start thinking, 'Well, I've got a certain limited amount of time'.

"I want to be light on my feet, doing things like [drama] Remember Me or an arts documentary, rather than commit to two years of being away. I've got two grandsons now, and I don't want to be saying, 'Sorry,...

15 Idiotic Laws That Only Exist In America
New Line Cinema

Ok, we know the Us is an easy target — sorry Americans — but these laws which are (supposedly) still in existence, are absolutely absurd. Bonkers.

Laws are there, on the whole, to keep society running smoothly. To uphold justice and protect the innocent. To stop people being *ss holes. But there are some laws that just make us question humanity. America isn’t alone, either. For example, it is perfectly legal to shoot a Welshman with a longbow within the city walls of Chester between midnight and six the following morning. Wait, what? How does this benefit a single person in the last century? Sure, there’s still a little tension between the English and Welsh, but an arrow to the heart is probably taking things a bit far.

Some of the ridiculousness we’ll see in this article could well have been churned out by a random law generator.

Celebrity Squares is back: Warwick Davis's 9 things to know
Celebrity Squares is one of those classic game shows - so we were very excited to hear it was coming back with Warwick Davis as the host! The show starts tonight (September 10), but we couldn't wait that long, so we snuck into the studios in London for a little look at the (very fancy) set. While we were down there, we grabbed Warwick in between filming two episodes and he told us what we need to know about the return of Celebrity Squares...

1. It's not just as simple as noughts and crosses.

"It's quite an exciting and fun game with the blocking... It does get quite intense. There's a lot of money to play for, mystery squares with prizes in. Our final game involves listing things associated with something that celebrity is associated with, so we just had a round with Lucy Pargeter, and the contestant had to name contestants...

Derek: Should Ricky Gervais comedy come back for a third series?
"It's the first time I've ever considered doing a third series of something. I certainly want to do the two series and a special for Derek and then see. I don't want to make TV for the sake of it."

Channel 4's Derek wrapped its second series tonight, and while Ricky Gervais confirmed earlier this year that Mr Noakes will return for at least one further special, he also refused to rule out the possibility of a third series.

Digital Spy wants your thoughts on the future of Derek - is another series a good idea, or should Gervais replicate his winning formula from The Office and Extras and bow out after one final episode?

Or perhaps you've already had enough of Derek? Did the show lose something when Karl Pilkington quit as grouchy caretaker Dougie? Should Ricky just put the project to bed now and move on?

Good,...

8 Spooky Predictions Ricky Gervais Got Right In Extras
http://gervaisfanart.blogspot.co.uk/

Ricky Gervais is basically a wizard: not only did he manage to make Karl Pilkington an accomplished actor in Derek, he also gave Les Dennis – the tragi-comic British TV antique – a career after years in the harsh wilderness of indifference. And if that wasn’t enough, he also moonlights as a sage predictor of the future.

Gervais himself has proclaimed himself the modern Nostradamus after he stated that his sophomore TV show, Extras, had predicted three major events (more of which later), when a news presenter made a fairly catastrophically stupid error while interviewing Samuel L Jackson. And other voices across the web have acknowledged Gervais’ unlikely magical skill, including the GervaisFanArt blogspot who published the brilliant image above in response.

But those three predictions are not even the half of it, as the show actually foreshadowed 7 things in the future of cast members, including Gervais himself.

And David Earl and Kerry Godliman are back as Derek's co-workers at Broadhill — the fictitious retirement home featured in the series. Also read: Netflix Will Air New Ricky Gervais Series in September The new trailer focuses on life as usual for Derek and his life at the retirement home, until his estranged father moves in and Derek is forced to mend.

Ricky Gervais on Karl Pilkington Derek exit: He was too nervous to act
Ricky Gervais has revealed that Karl Pilkington was too nervous to play a major role in series two of Derek.

Pilkington starred in the first series of the Channel 4 comedy as caretaker Dougie, but will play a much smaller role in the upcoming second run.

"If you saw him in the first series, [he was] sweating [with nerves]," Gervais explained. "He couldn't really act with other people, 'cos he was so nervous. I honestly didn't know whether to hug him or put him down!"

Though Pilkington only shot two days on Derek series two, Gervais argued that the character of Dougie "wasn't really integral" to the show.

"The show is so much more about Hannah (Kerry Godliman) and Derek anyway - he was just the icing on the cake," he said.

The second series of Derek begins April 23 on Channel 4, and will be available to Us residents via Netflix from May 30.
