‘Project Runway’ Turns 21: Why Heidi Klum Came Back (and Made It Work Without Tim Gunn)
Image
[This story contains minor spoilers from the Project Runway season 21 premiere.]

Being the host of Project Runway is technically a job, but Heidi Klum doesn’t consider it work.

“It’s not even work for me. It’s not, really. It’s a pleasure,” the supermodel and sprawling reality TV host tells The Hollywood Reporter when asked what it’s like to be back on the series alongside some new and old faces. Among those are longtime judge Nina Garcia, new addition Law Roach and the designer’s mentor and season four winner Christian Siriano.

A discrepancy between season 21 and its recent predecessors mark the return of Klum to the hosting chair. By now, Project Runway fans know the timeline of the show’s shifts in the past few years: Klum and Tim Gunn exited the series together after season 16, Karlie Kloss and Siriano stepped in to fill their shoes for season 17, Kloss departed by season 18 and...

‘Project Runway’ Revamp: How the Fashion Series Infused Comedy and Spectacle in Move to Disney
Image
Over twenty years after first launching on Bravo, “Project Runway” is getting a revamp. The beloved fashion competition underwent a complete creative overhaul as it moved from Bravo to Disney and Freeform, bringing back original host Heidi Klum and embracing fresh voices in fashion by welcoming celebrity stylist Law Roach as a judge.

But for executive producer Michael Rucker, who returns to “Project Runway” after serving as an EP for the first five seasons before the show’s Season 6 move to Lifetime, the revamp is more than just a switch-up of the judging panel; it’s a much-needed chance to infuse comedy and spectacle back into the series.

“The format was tried and true, but … from a visual storytelling standard point, I feel like it rested on its laurels,” Rucker told TheWrap. “After those first five seasons, it drifted away from funny moments … and moments of awkwardness.”

That’s why Rucker embraced the show,...

‘Project Runway’ Returns! Go Behind the Seams With Christian Siriano
Image
Heidi Klum is back in fashion again… literally! After leaving Project Runway in 2018, the German-born model is returning to host the 21st season of the clothing-design competition that has, since its launch in 2004, been spotted on Bravo, Lifetime, and now Freeform. Like the best revivals of timeless styles, this one adds some new touches, including ferociously opinionated celebrity stylist Law Roach joining original judge and eternally glam Elle Magazine editor-in-chief Nina Garcia. One feature that isn’t being messed with, however, is former Runway standout turned industry icon Christian Siriano, who is back filling Tim Gunn’s shoes as the contestants’ mentor. And good lord, he’s a blast. Getty Images “It’s always a challenge because everyone’s style is different,” says the popular designer, who took over the role when PR moved back to Bravo in 2018. “And I’m not trying to put my style on them. I wouldn’t want that.

Disney’s ‘Project Runway’ Season 21 Builds Momentum With Record-Breaking Trailer Performance
Image
Exclusive: Project Runway fans seem to be highly anticipating Heidi Klum’s return to the iconic franchise.

The trailer for Season 21, which landed online July 1, amassed 42.7M views across platforms within nine days of release, making it the highest performing trailer in Freeform history, per Disney.

That’s a pretty monster performance that sets up Project Runway for a promising return to television with this Disney reboot. While Freeform doesn’t often peel back the curtain on its performance metrics, Deadline did previously report that the trailer for Season 2 of Cruel Summer was pacing to break the same record in 2023 with around 24M views in 10 days. Although it was two years ago, that can help illustrate how well Project Runway‘s trailer is doing.

Klum will host Season 21 of Project Runway, and the former model will also serve as a judge. She...

Project Runway Is Officially Coming Back, But Not To Bravo
Image
Project Runway fans are rejoicing, as Bravo's reality TV competition show is coming back ... albeit not to Bravo.

In reality television terms, Project Runway is a true Og it premiered almost 20 years ago, at the dawn of the reality television era, in December 2004.

It debuted with a notable roster of judges, including supermodel Heidi Klum, fashion design legend Tim Gunn, and designer Michael Kors.

Project Runway deviated from many reality shows of its day by focusing on a fascinating niche fashion design.

The premise of Project Runway was not entirely dissimilar to run of the mill competition shows, as each season featured 12 aspiring fashion designers as contestants, slowly whittled down to a small handful for a final competition.

Each week, Project Runway's aspiring designers would participate in challenges and display their pieces on the show's titular runway.

Finalists for each season went on to design an entire collection...

‘Project Runway’ Jumps From Bravo to Disney With New Hosts, Judges
Image
“Project Runway” is headed from Bravo to Freeform with a brand-new season in 2025 with new hosts and judges.

The fashion competition show, which was helmed by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn for its first 16 seasons, will return next year with a 10-episode season after a creative overhaul. The hosts, judges and premiere date will be announced at a later time.

After launching on Bravo — and then moving to Lifetime before eventually returning to Bravo — “Project Runway” will now be a Freeform original series, after the Disney-owned network closed a deal with “Project Runway” producer Spyglass Media Group. The new season of “Project Runway” will air weekly on Freeform, with new episodes streaming shortly after on Disney+ and Hulu.

This isn’t the first time “Project Runway” has overhauled its hosting team, with model Karlie Kloss and Season 4 winner Christian Siriano taking the reins from Klum and Gunn after they exited...

Project Runway Season 21: News, Potential Release Window, Potential Cast & Everything We Know
Image
Project Runway's future was uncertain after season 20, but it was later confirmed as renewed for season 21. Season 21 may premiere later in 2024 or extend into 2025, following the large gap between seasons 19 and 20. Season 20's cast, including judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell, and Elaine Welteroth, could return for season 21 with new contestants.

Project Runway, which first premiered in 2004, has fans wondering if Bravo has pulled the plug on the popular reality TV competition after 20 years. The Emmy Award-winning show is the one that inspired countless others that came after it. The format was simple fashion designers competing against each other. Created by Eli Holzman, the show has launched some of the biggest names in the industry, such as Christian Siriano (he was the shows youngest winner), Chloe Dao, Leanne Marshall, and Irina Shabayeva. The latest winner in Project Runway season 20 was Bishme Cromartie, whod returned after installment 17.
