According to Bill Nye’s expert opinion, if Congress stopped denying the existence of climate change, disasters like this past weekend’s Texas flash flood could be prevented.
While talking to Dana Bash on CNN, the Science Guy broke down the need to halt the burning of fossil fuels if the planet wants any hope of mitigating disasters like the one on the Fourth of July.
“What are we going to do about it is the ancient question,” Nye said. “It would be to stop burning fossil fuels. When you’re in a hole, stop digging … but the fossil fuel industry has been very successful in getting organizations like the U.S. Congress to think that it’s really not happening.”
He then explained that there is still time to turn things around, but we need to start soon. Bash pointed out that the first six months of this second...

Democratic Sen. Alex Padilla spoke about being detained and handcuffed on the ground by law enforcement while attempting to question Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem during a press conference.

Broadcast networks again broke into regular programming with images of smoke rising in the skies over Tel Aviv, after Iran launched retaliatory attacks on Israel for its strikes on nuclear facilities and top military leaders.
ABC News broke into regular programming, with Diane Macedo anchoring, and CBS News provided a special report with John Dickerson anchoring. Cable news networks and broadcast streaming channels quickly focused their coverage on the attacks.
Israel defense forces said that “all of Israel is under fire as Iran fires projectiles,” and later reported a second round featuring dozens of additional missiles.
The Idf said in an announcement, “Every civilian must be aware of the most protected space in their area. When an alert is received, you must enter the protected space and remain there until further notice.”
Previously: Donald Trump once again chatted by phone with news anchors, this time to express support for Israel’s military strikes on Iran.

The U.S. secretary of defense has threatened to send active-duty Marines into the streets of Los Angeles to confront protesters opposing the administration’s detention and deportation of immigrants. At least three prominent Republicans don’t seem concerned about potential overreach.
“The [Department of Defense] is mobilizing the National Guard Immediately to support federal law enforcement in Los Angeles. And, if violence continues, active duty Marines at Camp Pendleton will also be mobilized — they are on high alert,” Hegseth wrote late Saturday on X, formerly Twitter, on his personal account.

Although Elon Musk has been known to lean on “free speech” when convenient, the ex-Doge boss appears to be backpedaling after dropping a major bombshell.
Following a heated exchange in which he claimed his former bestie Donald Trump is included in the Jeffrey Epstein files, the X mogul appears to have deleted the loaded post from his own platform.
The feud comes after Musk denounced Trump‘s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which would add an estimated $2.4 trillion deficit over the next decade. The Tesla CEO previously concluded his stint with Doge last month.
After Trump threw down a gauntlet, Musk responded to his threat to terminate Tesla’s government subsidies with the Epstein allegation. “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, Djt!” he wrote in the since-deleted tweet.

President Donald Trump is insisting that he’s not mad. The breakup with Elon Musk is not causing him to lose any sleep, and he’s definitely not checking his socials multiple times a day. The insistence from the president that he is unbothered and unconcerned about his blowup with the billionaire would be much more convincing if Trump hadn’t spent all of Friday morning calling virtually every news anchor he knows to complain about him.

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, Donald Trump and Elon Musk are no longer besties.
The bromance, which began amid Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign, was a short but eventful one.
Sure, you might have had friendships that ended in dramatic fashion, but how many of those have altered the course of American history?
Anyway, the Trump and Musk feud has had no shortage of fireworks, with the Tesla CEO accusing the president of consorting with pedophiles, and 47 firing back by threatening to withdraw billions of government subsidies.

Updated: Donald Trump spent part of Friday morning letting some news outlets know that he has no plans to talk to Elon Musk, even amid talk of a potential truce in their messy fallout.
On CNN, Dana Bash said that she got off the phone with Trump, and the president told her: “I’m not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem. The poor guy has got a problem.”
Bash said: “He says he won’t be speaking to him for a while, but he wishes Elon Musk well,” as Trump turned to the economy. She said the president didn’t sound angry but “I guess, more resigned.”
ABC News’ Jonathan Karl also spoke to Trump and said the president told him that he was “not particularly” interested in talking to Musk. Karl had asked him about reports that there would be a call with Musk some time on Friday.

Following Donald Trump’s pull of funding to Harvard University, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer announced on Sunday that he and several colleagues opposed the move by sending Trump “a very strong letter.” The move drew wide mockery almost immediately, including from Seth Meyers on Monday night.
The NBC host largely argued that sending a letter would likely have no effect at all — assuming Trump even actually reads it.
“Is this a constitutional crisis or Jane Austen novel? The guy doesn’t even read his presidential daily briefing, you think he’s sitting by the mailbox waiting for a letter from Chuck Schumer?” Meyers joked. “If your neighbor is blasting house music at 2 a.m., you don’t write him a letter. You pound on the f–king wall ’til he stops.”
According to Schumer, the letter included eight “very strong” questions for the president. Meyers scoffed at that, imitating...

Walking around UTA’s annual bash in Washington D.C. Friday night during this weekend of the White House Correspondents Dinner, many of the expected scenes abided.
The CNN personalities Dana Bash and John Berman jokingly pretended to introduce themselves to each other before posing for a party photo taken by their colleague, D.C. bureau chief David Chalian.
The U.S. senator Amy Klobuchar stood deep inside the crowd in the giant space of Osteria Mozza, the DC offshoot of Nancy Silverton’s Hollywood staple, greeting a slew of well-wishers.
And as a deejay blared Whitney Houston and bartenders poured bespoke cocktails, hundreds of sharply dressed media insiders circulated, laughed and even sometimes danced in a tableau that repeated itself more than a dozen times throughout the capital this weekend.
What made the scenes unexpected, of course, was what was happening outside the party walls. Fears of a tariff-induced recession,...

Journalism’s big night out returned on Saturday in Washington as reporters, editors and A-list celebrities mingled at the Washington Hilton at the White House Correspondents Association Dinner, an event jokingly called the “nerd prom,” in what was a more muted soirée that, for the fourth time while he has been in the Oval Office, was not attended by President Donald Trump. This year, the Whca opted to focus on the stellar journalism produced as the current administration charges into uncharted territory.
With the absence of the sitting president and the decision to nix a comic brought onstage to roast the leader of the free world — a lighthearted and often funny tradition that typically follows the meal, this year’s dinner continued the event’s downward slide in relevance as a cultural moment. The new Shondaland murder mystery series “The Residence” shares some DNA with another Netflix whodunit: Rian Johnson’s “Knives Out” film.
“It resuscitated the genre,” showrunner Paul William Davies told Variety at “The Residence” premiere in Los Angeles on Wednesday, revealing that Johnson’s film was a “hugely important” guidepost for his show in the way that it drew inspiration from 1970s whodunits.
“He played around with the history,” Davies explained. “That really opened the door for a lot of us to be like, ‘Oh, yeah, we can do that again.'”

It’ll be debated for some time whether Donald Trump’s confrontation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was spontaneous or a pre-planned ambush, but by the end of the 15-minute exchange Friday, Trump relished how it would all play: “This is going to be great television.”
The idea that Trump has created a reality TV presidency is well-worn, but the reaction to the shout-fest, that it signals a breakdown in U.S.-Ukrainian relations and perhaps Western alliances, is hardly trivial.
“Wow, just wow,” said CNN’s Dana Bash, after the network finished running video of the exchange, before going to the network’s chief White House correspondents and then foreign correspondents to talk about the implications.
Such reactions continued throughout the day as the story dominated cable news and social media.

Updated: TV news anchors were left stunned after Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky got into a tense Oval Office exchange, with the president at points shouting at the Ukrainian leader.
The purpose of Zelensky’s visit was to sign a mineral rights deal at the White House, but it comes amid talks between the U.S. and Moscow to settle the three-year-old war between Russia and Ukraine. Trump has previously berated Zelensky as a “dictator,” but has had little if any criticism of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
That deal is now off, as is a joint press conference that was planned following the meeting. Zelensky left the White House grounds at about 1:40 p.m. Et.

Rahm Emanuel, who last served as ambassador to Japan in Joe Biden’s administration, has found a media gig at CNN.
The veteran politician will join the cable news outlet as senior political and global affairs commentator, the network said on Thursday. Emanuel, who grew his national stature as White House chief of staff to President Obama, served as mayor of Chicago from 2011 to 2019.
The hire adds another staunch Democrat voice on global affairs to a pundit and anchor roster that is retooling in the second Trump administration. The official, the brother of Endeavor mogul Ari Emanuel, stepped down from the ambassadorship on January 14 a week ahead of the presidential transition.
Emanuel has already been appearing on CNN’s programming recently, including with Cristiane Amanpour in December and on State of the Union with Dana Bash after wrapping his diplomatic role in Tokyo. He’s also been keeping busy by writing Washington Post opinion columns,...

Four years after attempting to overturn the results of the election, leading to a deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol, Donald Trump was certified as the winner of the 2024 presidential contest.
In a heavily fortified Capitol complex, a joint session of Congress gathered Monday to listen as the electoral vote results of each state were read off.
Presiding over the session was the president of the Senate, Vice President Kamala Harris, in the position of announcing the winner of an election that she lost. Harris kept a slight smile as she read off the tally, 312-226. Republicans cheered for Trump, and Democrats responded with a large ovation for her.
On CNN, Dana Bash noted the heavy security today, and that so many that backed Trump’s challenge of the 2020 results were still present and actually now in positions of leadership. They include Mike Johnson, who is now speaker of the House.

Republican Gov. On the eve of a jury trial in June 2017, Disney settled a defamation lawsuit brought by a beef company for a whopping $177 million. The case stemmed from a series of ABC News reports in 2012 fronted by star anchor Diane Sawyer that dubbed the processed meat “pink slime.” At the time, it marked the largest settlement or jury award ever for a libel case and has since been eclipsed only by Alex Jones ($1.438 billion to Sandy Hook families) and Fox News ($787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems).
Fast forward to 2024, and George Stephanopoulos is now the face of ABC News and one of the highest-paid anchors on TV, making up to $18 million per year. Rep. Jim Jordan was a key figure in Jan. 6 and the attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 election, claiming there was widespread voter fraud despite all evidence to the contrary. So it’s certainly a change of tune when the Republican congressman acknowledges the 2024 election was free and fair. The notable difference between these two elections is, of course, that Jordan’s preferred candidate won.
CNN’s Dana Bash confronted Jordan with this uncomfortable truth on Sunday’s State of the Union.

Election Day is here, and the major news networks are prepared for a long night — and potentially a long week.
With over 50 million people early voting in the 2024 Presidential Election, Tuesday night will offer plenty of results to thumb through even if an ultimate winner isn’t called until later in the week, and most of the news networks will kick off their election night coverage at 6 p.m. Et, with CNN even starting at 12 a.m. Et while NBC News begins at 5 p.m. Et.
MSNBC’s Steve Kornacki will return to the Big Board — and will even be livestreamed on Peacock and other social platforms — while Fox News will see Bill Hemmer steering the “Bill”-board.
Most networks have scheduled eight hours of election night programming from 6 p.m. Et to 2 a.m. Et, with a result for the presidential showdown between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump not expected immediately.

Kamala Harris’ sit down interview with MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle was an effort to push back against the idea that she hasn’t offered a complete vision and economic plan, as the two went into some details of tax and tariff policy likely to be front and center for the next four years.
Of particular interest to the entertainment industry is her call for raising the corporate tax rate, as she has previously proposed raising it to 28% from the current 21%.
“We’re going to have to raise corporate taxes, and we’re going to have to make sure that the biggest corporations and billionaires pay their fair share,” Harris said. “That’s just it.
